Vapman

A couple quick thoughts on 'the DX lighter'. Part of the advantage for us with VM is the angle of the head and button WRT the body I think. Not only is it a 'natural pointer' but holding the valve open calls for pressing against your index finger, rather than down so you don't need to hold it at an awkward angle nor grip it tight to keep it from slipping down.

Secondly the large volume of the tank helps fight the natural cooling that happens as the gas evaporates. That is it's more stable in use than many with smaller reservoirs and similar delivery rates.

BTW, this source is a bit cheaper right now, the same ones I got last time from DX:

Yea I had two of these metal ones, one was angled the same and the flame was much better! Sadly hugeee weekend and I have no idea where it's got to, this other one is straight with a vertical flame, nightmare to use with a 45 degree downstem and a lot of the time the flame goes out when tilting it.

I'm having trouble with the $15 one I got locally too, while waiting for the others from China. It's got a huge tank, adjustable flame, but since refilling it, it splutters, goes out all the time, especially if it's on a slight angle.. It started playing up when we were showing Vapman off yesterday - of course! Grr.

I find a purge helps a bit, but these tobaconist ones are just pretty shit in general! What butane are you using? Best I can find locally is Newport and ventti, saw some dun hill but it was $12 for 150ml compared to $4.50 for 300ml of Newport.

I use cheap as shit butane from the discount store with my 1300C lighters .

Yup, me too. I've yet to have a gas related problem with one either. IMO they were designed in a land of truly 'dirty' fuel and are therefore able to deal with it for us.

One of the big killers on these types of systems (where liquids are evaporated off to make a gas prior to mixing with Oxygen and burning) is fouling the orifice with junk dissolved in the fuel. It can leave deposits of wax, varnishes, oils, water and all kinds of stuff as it does so. Water can freeze in place (because evaporation consumes heat (the reason vapes need heaters......) cooling things off. This ice can jam it up only to melt a minute or two later. Other stuff needs to be flushed out (by being dissolved again sometimes). Same thing happens, for instance, in Coleman stoves and lamps. Small design changes can make the system more immune to this.

Probably the best place to find quality lighters and top notch fuel for them are the shops that sell big bucks stogies (cigars). Avoid the ones with multiple burners or too wide a flame.

I think the best bang for the buck is with the $3 ones from China and whatever fuel you can get cheapest where you are.

I tried cheap lighters (which are really disposable) and two expensive $30 lighters from a cig shop and then tried the vapman lighter and have been using it for at least two years.

This is the same lighter I use to char the vapmans as well, so it's seen a lot of use and abuse.

It's still going strong with no sputtering or angle issues at all.

I've found it to be the perfect match for the vapman and a real workhorse, so it's well worth the money since they're not expensive either. Especially if bundled with a vapman, then they're $5

Thats my :2c:, but to each his own.

A solid unit for sure, the sort of thing you'd expect from VM. I like mine and use it in a small kit with the VM and some herb because it's smaller.

My only two 'issues' with it is the awkward thumb pressure angle (cramps in long sessions for me) and small volume.

Oh yeah 'much cheaper' is nice too. It means you can have a few backups and still be money ahead.

I'll look into this purge thing. lol Thanks! I'm using Ventii butane, I'd say it's probably the reason it's playing up.

I understand now why people want two Vapmans. I was probably obviously cringing when watching someone else use it. I've become quite attached to it, although now the bowl is burnt :( and I wish for a second one.. Ha! I could never justify getting another one when this one still works though.

I'm trying to make sure I set money aside come income tax season for the station and possibly a 2nd vapman for this lovely station.

I was curious has anyone that had a station in the past used it to heat the vapman for water tool's? I feel like its precise heating would take away the possibility of combustion which is easier when pushing it for white water extractions.

It can be also the low-priced basic model, if you like. With the station it gives not forcely the need for a heating protection.

If I get it right, you mean it like this?

I like the waterfiltering too, but go an easier way. ;-)

And it gives shurely a lot more people they like to vape VM with water-tools.
Oh, and I will never forget this smart guy:

but I think I'd rather get the station.
I would also recommend! You can get later an other VM, but the station is it 100% worth! And if you are even two VM-Vaperists, it's +200%, thereabout. :D

Today I was again by Renés place (we call it atélier) and received my station back, fresh updatet and I had in the mind to write some good words about, but ... now I'm already a bit too dizzy. :science:

I forgotten, that the station has much more effect as with the torch..:ninja:

You're quite the salesperson, very convincing! Like +3. :)

I didn't share yesterday, a whole bowl to myself! It lasted forever, got me crazy high twice, and I think it helps to get to know the VM even better. It might be another good reason to get two someday.. It's quite a personal instrument, and requires skill from hit to hit. Sharing isn't quite the same, do you guys know what I mean?

Not that I don't want to share, mind you.. :ko::p

I share my VM but not my the same bowl, everyone seems to like a different temp.
I'm curious how many people cover the stem holes. It's been unusually warm here in Boston and I've been using my VM outside with temps around 40 degrees. Typically, I use this vape indoors or in warmer conditions. I've noticed that the colder air affects the vapor temp much more than I would have thought. I've started to cover the three holes with a rubber O-ring during heat up then sliding off once its at a temp I like. It does decrease the amount of air mixed into the draw but it heats up much quicker . surprising that it took three years to experiment with the carb holes...

Hi guys! Been lurking for a while but this is my first post on FC. I am quite new to vaping but I have been totally combustion-free for about 2 months now and I love it. I too, like many I believe, discarded the butane powered vapes initially. But now I find them intriguing!

At the moment, I have an MFLB. I love it. Didn't take me long to learn to use it and while I still learn more and more as I go I would say I am the master in our relationship. I know its too late for me, its only a matter of time before I order one. I can't help it, just looks like so much fun! But if someone who has or has used both could compare them a bit? I know the main differences like stealth, butane vs batteries etc, but am more interested in differences in flavor, efficiency and maybe some aspects of it that you didn't expect or took you long to discover? Thanks

In my opinion, VM wins in taste and efficiency. There was a day, a few years back where I had only an MFLB and very, very limited access to flower. I would vape the ABV over and over in the MFLB. Pretty sure I wouldn't be able to do that with the VM (and that's a good thing).

If stealth is a big factor, MFLB absolutely wins. In my situation, the noise of the torch clicking and the smell of the butane is noticeable enough that the VM is not my daily driver.

Which one is your daily driver, Mr Mellish? Just out of curiousity...
