Discontinued The Grasshopper

Mine arrived today and I'm ecstatic :spliff:

First of all the box is very nice. Inside, my hopper is a very subtle shade of green, even compared to the photos I've seen. It had been sitting in my rural mailbox, the temperature outside is around 0°f so I resisted turning it on as long as I could--about 10 whole minutes lol, but it has been inside the house/car for over an hour so here we go. I loosely filled it with some of my finest freshly-cured homegrown. Set it at ~3.5 and clicked, it lit up like the future and quickly indicated that it was up to temp. Quickly like < five seconds it seemed but who's counting! I took three huge coughing hits, the flavor degraded but the volume of vapor did not. I clicked it off during the third hit, and needless to say I am not disappointed. This is the best vaporizer ever! I feel like between the crafty and this I have everything I could ever want in portables that I can really travel with--the crafty for bowls/sessions and the gh for one/three-hitters but there's overlap lol. I took a look at the avb just now and there may be a bit left in it, meaning this thing is tres efficient.

So far this is everything I could ever want in a vaporizer, I hope it works forever
(But if it doesn't hopper labs has my back, so I hope they last forever too!)

:mmmm::smug:
I took a few pics but they're nothing you guys haven't seen before and I'm ripped so screw it.

edit:
The 2nd extra battery that I recently paid for is missing, I'll drop them a line about that

Hope it lasts more than 5 hours...

How does it perform when not grinding the herb? I'm interested to know how it does just pinching off a nugg (or piece of one) and stuffing it in, sans any breakdown.

Thx

It did fine with small nuggets... Though they sometimes would get caught up when trying to clean the bowl, and you'd need a toothpick or pick of sorts to help clean it out. I usually used rough ground flower, I think I got bigger hits out of that (probably more flower, faster convection from more surface area)?

This is the same issue I was having. I sent it back, and after testing, was told "The only problem is that the battery is dead. Try using a different charger." I did, and haven't had any more problems.
What charger were you using? We're you using their charger cable?

@grokit My friend recently placed his pre-order and added 3 or 4 extra batteries, and he got a notice saying that the batteries were out of stock. Maybe that is the case?

Hmmm. That Free Battery for patient pre-orderers is looking more in jeopardy. Aw, I'm sure when they mean out of stock it's because they're saving them for this. I'm sure the next update will say they are expecting their biggest batch battery order will be delivered any day now.

Hey has anyone heard from @midgetsanchez, this thread's FP? Wouldn't mind hearing if his Grasshopper is still working.

I was using a cheap USB wall block that had come from some other device, with the GH cable plugged into it. I never figured out if the problem with it was electrical or mechanical (i.e. a bad connection on the USB cable, etc.) But I started using a different generic USB wall block that had come with some other device, and so far, so good.

2 of my 3 did that too. First one after a few months, and second one after a week.
This is purely hypothetical and there is absolutely no basis for the statement I'm about to make, but maybe they're programming a corresponding light change to a certain error or problem that they fix when it's sent back for diagnosis.

So we have one titanium and one stainless steel hopper. No labels on either. How do we tell em apart? :-)

Everybody's stocking up on batteries like it's the end of the world I bet hahaha
I did. When I backed, I ordered an extra battery. When I became reasonably sure that the Hopper was really going to ship, I added two more. Then, when there was a rash of "I canceled my pre-order, and here's why you should, too!" posts, I ordered four more, just in case the haters were successful in driving GHL out of business.

So now I have a cache of eight batteries that I rotate after each use.

Yeah your right about the mouthpiece. I was liking ti to the mechanical mods we use in the vape world where the thread on top and bottom do matter. The backend thread does matter though and I would still recommend cleaning the threads when you first get it and every so often as you use it.
I don't see why the backend threads would ever get dirty. Mine never have. The front end threads can, of course, but that's easily taken care of with a Q-tip and a little ISO. The Hopper is extremely easy to clean, IMHO.

With my free preorder battery I'll have 4 for my single hopper, I think I'll be okay, but I might buy one more, just in case. That'll give me 4 to carry in my case I'm going to get from @Ratchett, and one I can leave at home all the time...hmm...yes..

Ok. Two hoppers here. One SS, one Ti. The SS's back end has a short burst of heat once clicked on, then gets rapidly hotter once I start drawing, to the point of being unbearable to touch. Still testing to see if it's avoidable by holding the hopper without gripping it so much.

Was this the same experience as the ppl who had the infamous back end issue? The ti unit doesn't have this heat surge.

We've got all 6 extra batteries we ordered but are missing a bunch of extra mouthpieces, an extra charger lead and an extra leather sleeve.

Other than a potential heat issue, it's an incredible vaporizer (But then so was my Pinnacle pro until it melted ). Really hope any issues can be resolved. Gonna email Caroline in a moment.

Edit: just had the really fast ticking noise, was happening while charging. Unplugged the charger, plugged it back in, and the ticking ceased.

If GHL went out of biz due to people cancelling their preorders, all the extra batteries in the world wouldn't help you the first time you needed that lifetime warranty....

Is there a spring in the hopper for the battery contact? I'm wondering if in some cases the contact on the back end isn't perfect and you are getting some arcing causing the heat buildup.

(and likely causing that sludge that people found and reported weeks ago)

If I don't hold the hopper by the collar where the clip attaches, no heat build up on the back end.

Edit: the clicking appears to entirely charger related here. If I just move the magnet bit slightly, it comes and goes.

I'd stop using the SS hopper until you replace that backend - it's certainly defective. The only part of your Hopper that should get hot is the front-end, not the clicker.

In other news, Leather cases are done..... Special announcement coming soon...... :ninja:

Thanks. I needed a little nudge into what to do. Caroline emailed.
