Rosin Chips... Part Deux

Ok, so i am now fully sold on the Rosin Tech and the idea of Dabs on Demand. I now have about 50ish rosin chips that I have squeezed the shit out of (literally) and had originally planned to grind them and run them through the mflb. Instead, I am taking an idea that @Hoosier suggested and going to see how that works out. The chips are now in a mason jar covered in everclear and I will shake them every day or so until I decide what to do with them. Hoosier just adds chips to his concoction as he goes, and removes a few ml every few weeks for a kind of perpetual supply. What would the pros and cons of doing this or building up another stash while this one stews and starting over once this is done. I have zero experience with green dragon and am not sure if i would want to do this as a tincture or in capsules or what yet either, as I am not much of a drinker at all anymore.
I also have stopped doing second presses on these buds as it never really seemed to be worth the effort and I figure I will get whatever is left out this time around anyway.

So here is the concoction as it sits this afternoon about 24 hrs in

and here are a couple of rosin chips

A couple of filtered ml in a shot glass, topped off with Jaegermeister. Nasty looking shot, but takes care of a lot of the taste. Also, can fill a couple of the big gel caps and take right away. No taste at all.

time frame depends on how long you want to soak. left at room temp all the remaining cannabinoids should migrate much faster than you think. and since tou decarbed the chip while pressing it the only thing your really waiting onis migration.

I would say leave it a week or two in coconut oil, but everclear should be able to do the job relatively quick. a week tops for a batch.

if It were me I would make a batch and test it. then make another and test it til you know you got a winner.

if your just gonna gulp it go for it... but I like to use coconut oil so the cannabinoids bind to a fat and become more bioavalible. I then add my oil to some melting chocolate at a high concentration of oil to chocolate (it has to be frozen or it melts) you can add crushed pretzels for a little salt and cruch or whatever but I love my dank candies... yes they are dank and have gagged a lady who doesnt like ganja taste as she called it... but its a blast and works great sublingually if you let it melt in your cheek.

if it were me lol id evap that EC and deposit it in so coconut oil, but you can just fuse the EC tincture with the chocolate too... most of the ec can be evaporated off before just use enough to create a carrier solution to transfer to the chocolate and then the last bit will enfuse with it.

enjoy.

Are we sure about this? When I oven decarb I usually go for 30mins at 300f, much more time and heat than pressing...

Also, I'm curious if Bacardi 151 would work? Seems insane, but here in WA where you can buy legal recreational cannabis you can't actually buy Everclear lol. Finally someone in Gov recognizes alcohol as far more dangerous than weed...

I'd like to get @NorVape into this conversation as well, he's the first guy I saw talking about using this tech with chips.

I live in wa and they sell 190 EC at the grocery store?

Really? Not in my town lol... It is a pretty uptight area (city ordinance ban on rec and med weed), maybe they just don't carry it here? I'll have to check around more, I was looking a while back to try some QWET runs also. Thanks for the heads up bud :)

I don't even decarb when im using fresh herb due to the fact that I often prepare the oil with heat and also hest it again be it baking or infusion into chocolate.

I have zero doubt in my mind that undecarbed cannabis can be transferred into alcohol or fatty oil. it may not be as bioactive until heated as a solution but it will migrate.

open atmosphere decarboxylation tends to make the house stink... so I figure if im smelling it... im losing it. so I like any active decarboxylation to occur inside of a solution of some kind... that way any loss goes directly into the oil.... I just add more time to preparation. I like my oral oils to be potent and fast acting. I dont like strait tincture because of the alcohol... alcohol changes the experience for me, but I do not consume alcohol regularly.

if you want to use alcohol the real key is high alcohol content. 190 just works the best but some do use 151 as ive seen. I always use everclear or coconut oil but thats my personal preference.

ive even cooked eggs with oil... I think I made a green eggs and ham thread too. ill see if I can link it.

not a drinker these days, cant remember the last time i had a drink, so I am not too interested in the alcoholic content of what i come up with. I went the coconut oil and capsule route with some reclaim a few months ago, but I think I made them much too weak. I was thinking i could potentially evap this down to a level that a small enough (and measurable) amount could have the desired effect whether that be in capsule, tincture, or whatever form turns out to work the best.

Edit-Here is my last foray into the world of edibles. I am pretty sure I still have some of these capsules sitting around to this day, so hopefully this time turns out a little better

do you digest those capsules well? I dont like using them because they dont release in a timely manner. I dont like medibles that sneek up on me like capsules do... brownies tend to be the same way.

my best daily use edible has been a sublingual melt. you can make them very strong and add peppermint if you dont like dank chocolate...

my last batch I didnt even use chocolate I just used vanilla candy melts and left them plain (no flavor added other than vanilla candy) and added a bit of salt to it to cut the sweet flavor while you melt it in your cheek.

let a friend try some and he remarked a noticeable head change at about 15 min from first contact of a quarter size piece so you can make them rather strong.

I usually evaporate and Mix with coconut oil these days.

Also, alot of my pressing material is import hash that's been naturally decarbed due to storage, but I don't decarb pressed nugs either, and seem to be getting good results.

Ran out of ethanol, and I'm actually evaporating an isowash I did of rosin chips and ABV as I write

I like to freeze my coconut oil capsules then open the top and pinch the bottom to squeeze out the frozen coconut oil. They kick in much faster.

Sublingual candy melts sound like a great first batch. So i will strain out the everclear after a week, evap it most of the way off, then mix with melting chocolate at as high of a ratio of oil to chocolate/flavored melt. I assume it will bond fairly quickly, then i just pour into some sort of small chocolate button type mold?

it doesn't take long to mix at all. I liquefy the candy melt first then add the oil and mix well. you can then make molds or just pour on a parchment lined cookie sheet and make it into a bark. then just freeze and shatter for bite sizes if you dont have a mold. but a mold will make more uniform doses.

Ya, Canna Coconut Candy is the way to go for me also. :) What I like about candy over other edibles is the absorption rate and overall effect. It's half way between vaping and eating for me. When you eat cannabis, it is converted to 11 Alpha THC which takes hours to fully hit you and is roughly 3-4 times more 'potent' than smoking. This conversion takes place in your digestive system. Sucking on candies however, vs eating cakes and cookies, lets much of the Delta 9 THC remain as is and absorb sublingually into your system with some of it carrying on through your digestive system and converting to 11 Alpha. So you get a quicker, slightly shorter buzz, that still feels very much like edibles, just sort of kinder with less body load IMO (too many will still accidentally put you on your ass though).

I like the idea of alcohol tinctures. I've done it in the past and just dropped drops under the tongue but I just don't really like alcohol and I feel like I'm getting a bunch of plant stuff I don't need (nitrogen, chlorophyll, etc). Extracting decarbed cannabis into coconut oil is my favorite, and it feels like it just grabs all the good stuff.

I do hard candy, taffy, and caramel with my AVB (I say already vaped bud). Just yesterday, I mixed my rosin chips with my remaining AVB and made some coconut oil, then candies and bhang. Enjoying a candy right now actually. I'm happy with the results and will definitely be cooking all the time with my rosin chips like I did with AVB.

My methods are probably the same as everyone's but it's probably worth sharing since some people seem to not know. It's really easy and doesn't require any special knowledge or equipment.

(STEP 1) Canna Coconut Oil
  • fill small saucepan with water, put on low/med heat (just under boiling)
  • place small metal bowl (just big enough to rest on saucepan rim) on water
  • add AVB (or rosin chips, or any decarbed cannabis) to bowl
  • add coconut oil (mix one tablespoon at a time and let melt, put just enough to soak)
  • simmer for 3 hours, mixing periodically
  • decant / press strain (I use half a tea-ball and a mesh filter, not paper)
  • save the coconut oil for any kind of cooking, or just melt in mouth plain (yum)

(STEP 2) Canna Coconut Bhang
  • dump out water from saucepan
  • put your strained AVB (rosin chips, whatever) in saucepan
  • add 1/2 - 1 cup of heavy cream, or full milk, or mix of both
  • simmer really really low for an hour (don't let it boil or evap/burn)
  • strain and drink (big ride!)
  • or save in fridge (remaining coconut will separate, rise, harden on top, but milk is potent also)

(OPTION 1) Canna Coconut Hard Candy
  • Basic ingredients:
    • 1 part canna coconut oil
    • 2 parts corn syrup
    • 3 parts sugar
  • Flavor:
    • I add organic almond extract and organic bourbon vanilla extract (1 teaspoon of each)
    • you can add anything
  • Method:
    • mix corn syrup and sugar in saucepan
    • bring above 300f and keep it there for a few minutes
    • remove from heat, cool until 260f
    • add canna coconut oil + flavoring
    • stir with silicone whisk until uniform
    • pour onto cookie tray with parchment (or silicone slick pad)
    • cool, cut, enjoy
  • Tips:
    • it looks like the canna coconut oil will not mix with the sugar syrup, but it will, you just have to be persistent, you'll get the hang of how fast/slow to do it and for how long
    • this will stick to everything metal like crazy while mixing, use silicone utensils
    • this is HOT, do not forget! It's not a sauce, it will burn you, be careful.
    • this will cool down FAST and become unmanageable, mix quick then pour
    • pre-mix your flavor with your canna coconut oil, keep them warm and they'll mix into the sugar syrup much easier (do not take them from fridge, then try to mix)
(Option 2, easiest) Canna Coconut Taffy
  • Exactly the same as above, but only bring your corn syrup and sugar mix up to 260f and no higher
  • reduce heat, mix in canna coconut oil + flavoring
  • whisk thoroughly while keeping it on low heat (<200f)
  • Tips:
    • Taffy is my favorite method as it is the easiest, hard candy is tricky to work with
    • I make taffy and pour it onto a silicone mini-ice cube tray (cheaper than silicone candy molds)
    • I scrape it with a silicone spatula to fill the cube holes
(Option 3) Canna Coconut Caramel
  • Basic ingredients:
    • 1 part canna coconut oil
    • 1 part corn syrup
    • 2 parts sugar
    • 1 part condensed milk
    • 1 part whipping cream
  • Flavor:
    • you can add anything: vanilla, tea, salt, etc
  • Method:
    • mix syrup, sugar, milk, cream in saucepan
    • stir and bring to 240f and no higher
    • stir at temp for 5-10 minutes
    • remove from heat and mix in canna coconut oil and flavor
    • pour, cool, cut, and enjoy
  • Tips:
    • some people mix and melt the sugar and corn syrup first at higher temp (260) for bonus color and flavor, then whisk in milk and cream
    • you can substitute brown sugar for extra flavor
Other Options:

Beyond hard candy, taffy, and caramel, there are a billion options when you go into the fudge realm. I like fudge also because you're getting away from so much sugar and you can use lots of other great ingredients. But, I feel like sugar is a really good carrier for fast body absorption compared to fudge which is starting to get closer to edibles (even though you can let it melt in your mouth). Also, hard candies, taffy, toffee, and caramel are more stable and therefor more portable and practical for general use (toss in your pocket, bag, camping, traveling, etc).

Sorry for the gigundo post, just sharing some info wherever the convo happens. These simple techniques and recipes have been great companions of mine and I hope other people can enjoy them also.

So the plan is to strain this out and evaporate it down to maybe 25% of it's current volume. Could that then be added to candy melts or taffy, or should it just be a dropper based thing this time?

your choice really. try the tincture first since you'll have it in that form, if its not the thing you desire try the candies with remaining mixture.

it is now down to 50ml, which is about where i was planning on evaporating it to. I tried 1.5ml under my tongue for about 10 sec before swallowing the night before last when the volume was about 75ml total. I was guessing it would be comparable to a 1ml dose once it is down to 50ml total, but did not really feel much from it. Going to do something with this for thanksgiving holiday, but not sure what as of yet...
