7? - surely no-one uses setting 7 on a Solo, I find even 5 with the WT can leave rather dark looking ABV.

Isn't setting 7 where all the bad stuff is?

@biohacker what are you pre-soaking the herb in? Scanned the posts can't see the wood for the trees, if you've said!

I pretty much use 7 (210c) exclusively with gong, although I have started experimenting more at 5 and 6. IF I use a dry stem I will use anywhere from 2-5, usually by creeping it up. I love 7 with the gong and water tool because i'm going for huge thick tasty white clouds, similar to my bong snapping days...my favourite way to medicate.

As for the "bad stuff"...meh... I purposely don't fill the gong all the way up, so it prevents any scorching, and 210c isn't very high temp actually in the grand scheme of things IMO, since most vapes i've owned go higher. I think benzene, toluene and other nasties start becoming more pronounced around 200? Maybe I should dial it back, i've been a high temp vaporist for quite a time now, I wonder how vaping at 200 would change things up....i have a feeling I just won't get as medicated?

I don't actually soak the herb in anything other than heat! It refers to "presoaking the biomass" in heat by turning the Solo on and inserting the gong, and then waiting for it to hit temp (7) and then giving it another 15-30secs BEFORE hitting it. That adds much conduction and delivers huge clouds instantly. With NO presoak, it's all convection but as such takes a while to get the bowl going and then you have the choice to remove from gong and continue convection hits, or leave it on and enjoy the conduction aspect.

I actually use solo at 7 dry, but only with my vortex stem. It is actually comfortable. I find a big difference in my mighty and solo, as both have their own place. Mighty has made me take quick sessions (with that 1 min timer and vapor leaking), but hits hard and now makes me choke. I never choke on solo even on max temp and can enjoy a nice session without worrying about vibration (I know I can reset the mighty with a click), but it's something psychological.

Totally agree they are both incredible but totally different and go about delivering vapour in different ways. As much as I love my Solo, it definitely is not the Mighty, and I must admit I do greatly miss putting .25+ in the Mighty, heating to 210c and then ripping it HARD - instant whitewall and super massive hit that I can actually kill in one go. I so wish I took videos back then when I had it, but I miss it so much i'm just waiting for a sale before I buy one again so it will be Mighty vs Solo videos!

My brain is struggling to process pre-soak to not mean getting wet! Isn't that a pre-heat?

Anyway, gonna try that when I get home, I'm down the pool hall tonight, so out and about with my trusty Ascent, so looking forward to trying your suggestion with my WT when I get home :)

I don't actually mind the first few hits producing no vapour, as I know they are the tasty ones and am looking for flavour not clouds when I take them. I shall see if I can get both with your suggestion.

Still concerned with going so high on the temp..perhaps I'll compromise and do 6, as I normally stop at 5 anyhow!

This is probably going to be a stupid question but here goes...

Does pre-heating the herb, 'burn off' / evaporate some of the goodness before you get to draw on it?

I know it can loose some flavour, as I have started a session before, then got distracted by a visitor, full 12 minutes session ran with no draw (nice aroma fills the room though ;0) ), but when I revisit the session once the visitor has left, the first few draws aren't quite as tasty, so assumed I lost / wasted some goodness by heating the herb and not partaking!

Yeah you can start to smell it if it's on too long. I just tested it for you... I threw the Solo on the gong cold and heated it to 5 with maybe .05g in it. When it hit 4 I took the solo off and inspected...everything was still green and when I sniffed it you could definitely tell it was getting warm and starting to offgass terpenes I suppose? put the Solo back on the gong and waited about 30 secs or maybe a bit more after it hit 5. Then I took the Solo off again and noticed that the herb started to turn colour slightly and more smell came off. Take what you will from it, it doesn't concern me whatsoever.

I'm actually super stoked for you because the D020-D was the next glass on my GAS list! I didn't like the d020 because I thought it was just too small for my needs (occasional water in mouth, can wouldn't milk up) but it did mate with the Solo nicely for form factor. I'm thinking the -D will be perfect? I'm quite happy with my WP-010 now with the Solo (didn't like it with other vapes) and I think that may be just a bit bigger than the d020-D?

In defence of my logic!

I'm most likely a different size than you?

The D020 is a perfect size for a portable like a SOLO!
The D022 is a perfect size for a LOG like a NANO!
The FC UFO is perfect size for a NANO or LOTUS.

I have a larger than require collection I use however this is an example of my logic!

Some of my vaporizer's do not require water.

Milking a can is fun to do sometimes.
Sometimes blue vapor is my goal.

I guess if it depends if your needs are medical or recreational?

It's very impressive to milk a W series waterpipe!

CANNABIS means something different to all of us.
One size does not fit all!

Do what feels right for you!

CANNABIS is the true GRAIL as I have repeated over and over!

I use a SOLO and I'm content with my medical application.

I have a bad case of GAS and will buy more stuff.

Will it change CANNABIS?

In all honesty you know what works for you!

CANNABIS is wonderful!

We can all enjoy it the way it floats our boat or boats!

Indeed!!

Woke up to stormy rainy day in the Pacific NW. Back, legs, feet hurt more when the weather is like this. Usually don't Wake N Vape, but I'm glad the Solo was ready with some fresh Permafrost this morning. Made me feel like getting up. So happy to have this medicine to help with all this age related stuff. Imagine, a medicine that actually makes you feel good!

And all without bad side effects or putting strain on your liver.

It's a miracle.

I am close to purchasing my first solo, first portable in fact. Does anyone know of any uk distributors that will be doing black Friday deals on the solo.
@PuffItUp , 150$ + Free Grinder (Almost positive on the price, others can confirm)

@VaporNation , after entering FC21 coupon code 150.09$ + choice of freebies.
I got a wooden grinder( decorative purposes only)
Solo Car Charger or a extra stem (Stem is 10$ , Charger is 23)
Choice of Digital Scales, NoGoo container, Tightvac Container

You may save more money using VapoShop?

@1DMF ?
Where did you get your Solo?

Herb gardener...
The cheapest I can find it is 120 quid. The vapefiend with the discount comes out at 122, so if no deals happen on black Friday I'll just do that.

Unfortunately my car had no cigarette lighter or power point. So no car charge possible.

Can I use that discount code for anything and more than once

The Vapor Nation?
Yes!!
And you get 1$ credits for every 10$ spent.

No its £119.99 with a free crap grinder from eBay UK sellers

www.vaporseller.com has the solo for $126 shipped, not sure if they or their affiliated sites ship to UK however. Now I know they aren't an affiliate, but for me personally the savings were too good to pass up. I've heard excellent things about PIU from members here however.

Ok Solo pros, yesterday my solo quit beeping. It worked in the morning and when I got home from work it simply didnt beep upon turning it on or off!? Today its not beeping either, but I believe it beeped on its timeout (wasnt in hand). Its still as effective as ever.. Just less noisy. Is this a common issue? Its suffered no drops, around a month old.

The sound or lack thereof doesn't bother me, I'm just concerned it may be a precursor to issues down the road..

I've caused that to happen quite a few times - Pressing and holding the 'UP' button turns the beep on and off.

So I took @biohacker's suggestions and loaded up equal weight bowls in a Solo and a Crafty last night.

With 0.05g through water at max temp (210ºC/410ºF on both vapes) with a 1 min heat soak the Solo actually produced a decent cloud. The Crafty didn't produce much but the load was comically small for the Crafty's bowl. It didn't even cover the bottom.

With 0.10g the Crafty was maybe 2/3 full and produced two nice clouds. The Solo was pretty full since I use a domed screen and produced 2 clouds as well and they actually weren't much smaller than the Crafty. I had thought with a mostly full bowl the Crafty would blow the Solo away but it wasn't actually significantly better.

Dry on the other hand I think the Crafty produces better vapor. This exercise has helped me get a better of what situations call for which vape. The Solo seems to be better for small loads, water vaping, or long sessions while the Crafty is better for quick dry sessions or the rare vape on the go.

I'll be repeating this once I get my Zion to see where that fits in and encourage anyone with multiple vapes to give it a try.

If you're thinking about buying outside EU, have a look at Planetvape from Canada, as their dollar is working out very favourable for some countries, and they're well priced.
The Solo price on the site is the best they do, but there is an offer on the Air (can be found on this site)
but the prices already work out quite good:tup:

So... I ask the Solo crew...
Is water as awesome as it looks?

Am I going to miss out on the lightweight molecular Terpenes?

I was looking at bongs and percs, but I was saving hard for a Volcano,
so I decided to DIY!
There was gen 1 (below), and gen 2 was a big improvement (much more glass used in the construction!!)
But I got great results, as one of the posters, maybe @biohacker or @1DMF said above, I could definitely relate to the "feeling like a dragon" when exhaling! Sometimes I used @biohacker 's method of preSOAKing the biomass:tup: for 30 seconds at level 7 (@1DMF If you lift the Solo off between draws, it's nothing like using your solo like normal on 7, as the ABV is still quite pale when done)
The thing I found is if I lifted the (inverted) Solo 1-2mm off the stem, sort of like tilting it, it turned into cloud city!
I also found that this type of thing, disassembled or discarded after use, might suit me better than something I'd have to look after/clean/keep out of reach etc, although the experience is probably nothing like sucking a D020-K!!

I had to think long and hard on this one?

Cookies is the last name of a group of brothers here in California.

Girl Scout Cookies is their creation.

I have many strains and my favorite day time strain is GSC.

Ah that ruins it for me! I thought it tasted/smelled like sugar and butter, or sweet cookies?!!
Although I'm sure I'd probably get over that if I had a bit of it!
You guys are sooo lucky there, although dont get me wrong I got fairly lucky myself today!
It's so much fun hearing of all the varieties but I cant think what it'll be like reading about it if we're going through a rough patch where I am:lol:

The effect with a PHVES STEM dry = OMG at level 4
^The single most descriptive and flat out funny statement on FC!!^:clap::myday:

I've caused that to happen quite a few times - Pressing and holding the 'UP' button turns the beep on and off.
After about a month of ownership, I tried this and it was so strange after being used to the beeps!
Great feature though if you needed it.

Once Shira law spreads in CANADA I think cannabis will be a mute point!

I do Like the SOLO for sure.

Hopefully California with not budge!

FRANCE was attacked and CANADA is next!
ENGLAND I love however their in bad shape as well!

I always break glass GonG's so I need to order a few from planetvapes before they close.

That's AWESOME! Great report back thanks for doing it in the name of vape science! Your observations and conclusions are identical to mine....nice to see an UNBIASED opinion and comparison between the two vapes, both being awesome but different. Some seemingly overenthusiastic fanatics just cannot accept this in the respective S&B threads. Your write up definitely explains why I prefer my Solo for gong water use, back to back constant sessions, and ultra efficient tiny loads. However, I think the Crafty like you say is much better dry, although that can also be subjective depending on your preferences (free flow vs cigar puffing).

But I got great results, as one of the posters, maybe @biohacker or @1DMF said above, I could definitely relate to the "feeling like a dragon" when exhaling! YES! That very slight lift or tilt in my case makes a massive difference in airflow. I was planning another video to show that the Solo doesn't really have much restriction if you know what you're doing. My roots are basically VXL Cloud, and trust me the reason I don't own an EVO is not because I cannot afford it.

Was testing much on 7 with no heat-soak and removing Solo from gong between hits. Very true, VERY much lighter ABV - not even close to dark brown! Taste was sublime, and didn't take as long to get vapour flowing as I thought, especially once the Solo was nice and heated up.

Does anyone here have a Solo AND Herbalaire here? Just curious on comparisons/similarities, etc.

@blackstone Lifting the Solo off isn't so easy with an EasyFlow GonG as it is such a tight fit, and handing the GonG while having been heated to 400F, is likely to end in tears. Perhaps I need the PVHES GonG?

what is an "easy flow" gong? just curious..

my PV GonG isn't the high efficiency kind, just regular, and my Solo comes off of it without much if any friction...just perfect, I hope when I buy some more they fit the same!

Thank you PlanetVape for bringing it! Seems to always be in stock now too!

Well I found it really easy with my Air tipped stem as in the pic above, it slides in really easy.
I set it up like a whip, and can mount the stem in a bracket to allow me to raise and lower the Solo with one hand, and hold my DIY bong with the other. Or I can do the convection thing with the whip alone, no bong, it is lovely through the whip too, and can also adjust the stem and get whopping clouds too!
The only PVHES object I own is a Turbo Shorty stem, and that's a tight-ish fit and would not lend itself to the lifting like you described with your easy flow. But then that's a stem!

Easy flow is like a EU version of PVHES, with slots cut in the end, maybe no channels though? And early stuff had pretty thin glass, possibly still does? I was given an early carbed one of their stems with my Solo but the knobhead had broken it so it was pointless giving it to me really, unless I take up glass repair and blowing!

My PVHES stem is tight-ish in my Solo but nice, not important as I dont "GonG" it! Maybe they pay more attention that the gONgS slip in and out better. Or maybe you just got a slim one by chance?!!
Great company though, nice goods, and fast shipping!
