Firewood Vaporizer

I use similar amounts as with my Nano, probably 0.05-0.07g usually, but I don't have a scale to that precision to verify. The load in that photo may be a bit on the large side.

Firewood can deliver some great clouds, but the vapor is a lot hotter / harsher on my throat compared to Nano+steamroller, so I've been taking fairly short puffs, still working out my technique... I'll probably only go up to level 3 unless vaping through water, but it seems to extract and darken the bud as thoroughly as I like it on 3 anyway.

Flavor is very good at low temperatures, but overall not as pure; it's not bad or anything, and I expect with time and seasoning the woody flavor will subside.

vas ...

hm i am since ever searching for a portable vape which is very similar to the e-nano...
which means taste, efficiency (small loads and a lot of clouds), nice clouds...

until now I did not find such a portable vape (pax, crafty, esv, cera, vapman....)

yes the vaporpath seems to be really short, maybe thatsbwhy you ecperience harsh hot vapor?... but maybe jodaglass could help...

I actually went ahead and removed the screen from my mouthpiece, and instead created another domed screen and placed this lightly over the bud inside of the glass chamber. This changed EVERYTHING. Draw resistance is very low now, even lower than before. The bud also doesnt fly up and get stuck to the mouthpiece screen anymore since the screen sits close enough to the bud to where it only lightly bounces around. I actually don't have any problems engaging the heater anymore. I do one "primer puff" before I start my sesh, and then just puff and the clouds come rolling in. I only do another primer puff if I don't draw for 15 seconds.

Might be my technique or the unit. But if I don't primer before each hit I barley get anything if any vapor at all. If i primer each time I get huge rips. I guess I will keep experimenting.

I find that if you get overzealous and pack the capsule too tight, you will have to do long slow primer hits more often and you will get some restriction on air flow. As @paytonpenn mentioned before, 3/4 capsule is best for huge tasty clouds!

@firewood Marc, I had a great inspirational thought for you...could you possibly make a 4 mouthpiece caddie like the 2 mouthpiece caddie bonus you sent to some of us? I was thinking if you could make one that would hold 4 mouthpieces and then give it like an extra 1/2" on the bottom and hollow out a compartment for storage of flowers or what have you. It would be an awesome way to keep everything together. If you made something like this and sold it for like $50 or so I would surely buy it and I would be surprised if others did not.

if battery bank works (ordered one so I will give feedback as soon as it arrives)
Have you received the battery bank you mentioned yet? I am really anxious to get one of these. I have been toting my home charger around with me and charging in between sessions but it would be much less hassle if I didn't have to remember to tote my home charger around.

I may have actually ordered 3. Fry's had very quick shipping but I didn't have a chance to test it until today. I tested it with some cheap Rayovac rechargeables that were laying around.
It works when the batteries are out of the Firewood. I just gave it a quick test and will do more testing in the future but it works.

Now we just need someone to make a cool holder/holster for it.

So I was without my Firewood for a week and it was pretty devastating. I haven't been so delighted to have a vape back.

Since I have a newer up to date Firewood I have noticed the unit takes a little bit longer to heat up, still very quick. It does however seem to stay heated longer than before. It also had a woodier taste than the other unit, it's softened a bit but this unit has more distinct flavor than the last. Luckily it doesn't ruin the experience or flavor in general.

In regards to the battery pack, I really recommend you guys pick these up. It was almost 10 bucks including shipping for three of the battery holders ordered from Frys on the 26th received on the 29th.

Some things to know about the battery pack:
The battery pack works when there are/aren't batteries in the Firewood.
The Firewood will always buzz the internal batteries life if they are inserted (unless they are ENTIRELY dead).
The Firewood does tell you the battery life of the pack if there no batteries in the Firewood.

If you're not going to take out your batteries I suggest using the pack when your unit has reached the 3 buzz, low battery stage. It should give a single buzz for battery and will allow you to use the FW like normal.

Now it's becoming harder and harder not to recommend this device. I hope to see super exotic woods one day.

@paytonpenn

can you compare the fw3 to the grasshopper?
what are the main differences in general?
and what is your opinion regarding:

a.)vapour quality (e.g. density of clouds, taste, how many draws until taste evaporates)?

b.) efficiency (e.g. load size (g per bowl/load), how many visible clouds per g)?

c.) battery life?

between fw3 and gh...

Main difference is that the Firewood gets to a higher temp and isn't so exact with temperature and is actually within a temperature range.

A. Vapor quality is good, I prefer the taste of my Firewood over my Hoppers. Clouds yield a lot of denseness. I'm a high temp user I don't really bother myself about taste evaporation, especially since I like that rich black abv flavor but I find flavors to really pop out in the FW in comparison to the gH.

B. I like to load the screen, efficiency is definitely pretty high, I expect 20 light clouds from temps 1-2 with less than .05g, but the Hopper is also pretty darn equivalent, I'd say the gH is a slower extractor so it vapes for longer.

C. The Hopper was kind of designed for battery swapping in my opinion. It's also only got one battery in it. Maybe all my Hopper back ends are super defective but I only get about couple sessions from a single Hopper battery but I think that translates poorly. I get about 18-25 draws from my Hopper. The Firewood is about 3-6 sessions, but I can also finish loads quicker with it. I'd say its about 42-50 draws.

How would you compare a air to a firewood v3
I would rate the Firewood better in vapor density and extraction speed. But they are different styles, the AA is a definite session without the ability to do quick extractions. Air is better in flavor, and the amount of draws you get. Firewood is more comparable to a desktop in my opinion.

So the battery pack is essentially like a portable charger, but you don't have to wait for it to charge?
I'm a little confused as well @paytonpenn Is the battery pack acting as a back-up battery for when the battery is dead only or can it actually charge the device as well? I guess if it was acting as a back-up battery that would be better in a sense because you don't have to wait for the device to charge.

Please keep in consideration for my intended purpose, I would not be removing the internal battery.

In regard to the charger- does it have an option to be plugged into a wall as well? Do you have a recommendation for good batteries to use with the charger?

First a warning about plugging anything other than the stock charger into a firewood - Do not exceed 5V. You will probably damage the device if you do. For example if you use one of those 4 cell battery pack holders and use 3.7V LiIon cells, you will destroy the firewood. If you buy an 8 cell pack and use the right batteries, you will destroy the firewood. For those packs to work it MUST be a 4 cell 4.8V pack with NiMH cells in it.

Anything that gets connected to the charger port will be in parallel with the main batteries. If you put a battery pack in parallel then it will be almost like having one very large capacity pack. If the pack that you attach to the vape is more charged, ie at higher voltage, then it will charge the main pack (slowly). The opposite could also happen.

Using a NiMH pack of 4 cells in series (4.8V pack) should work fine. Development and testing of the vape has been done exclusively with eneloops so I can't guarantee that any old NiMH will work. Eneloops and probably any other high quality NiMH should work.

You could also use a 5V power supply as long as it is capable of providing 5A. This allows you to use the device when the batteries are dead.

Is there a power supply that would work from a vehicle ac/dc adapter that you could recommend? If I could charge the unit from my car I think that would be good enough for me.

Also, I was under the impression that the Firewood 3 could not be used while plugged in to the wall outlet. With all this talk it seems that the Firewood 3 can be plugged in and used at the same time so it left me wondering. Would a Firewood 3 with a dead or low battery be able to be used if it is plugged in? Also, would the battery keep dying while it is plugged in if someone is using it at the same time? If so, it sounds like this could lead to similar battery failures like seen in the ESV. Usually this is due to slamming the battery while it's already dead on charge.

I think Marc clarified things pretty well.

This battery pack seems to act as if you are just adding more batteries. I don't think the Firewood works in the default charger without batteries and I'm quite sure it will keep dying on you. You plug this pack in a Firewood with no batteries and first it acts as if you had put batteries in it. I wouldn't use it with intent to charge. It acts as if you just added more batteries.

Did anyone else's tracking number say, "invalid" or "not found" when typed into USPS Website the day you received your tracking number?

Thanks all.

Esit. Also, does customer service usually get back to you via email within a couple of business days?

Tracking number now works, and i should have my firewood on Saturday now. Stoked. Cheers.

Edit. Prompt email response from Marc in around 24hrs with a "good answer" to my question. Tracking was sent in a very timely manner, and item when out the next morning despite me ordering around 5pm EST.

Nice work Firewood customer service. Some other companies should take notes. Cheers.

Appreciate all the reviews as I'm very interested in this one.
Trying to decipher all this battery talk, so can it be used while charging with the supplied charger?
Is there a cutoff for the heater after "X" number of seconds?
Or will it continue to heat as long as you draw, the Elevape shuts the heater off after about a 8 second draw.

nosmoking

You can bypass the Elevape heater auto shutoff with brief pauses, however with the Firewood you do not have to pause. You can draw as long as you want. Sometimes I have back to back draws so close that you can tell the heater barely gets a chance to cool down in between.

The best way to accommodate the battery is with the battery pack that @paytonpenn recommended a few pages back. I plan to get the same eneloop batteries that are in the Firewood to use in the battery pack. I have two battery packs and 8 batteries coming for less than $30 shipped which will provide me two extra charges basically.

I won't be using the battery packs to recharge the batteries in the device. I will be using the battery packs to power the device. In theory, this is the same as running the device while plugged into the wall with the supplied charger, however I cannot confirm that it is safe to use while plugged into the wall with the supplied charger. We need @firewood to respond to let us know if this is safe or not.

Anyway, for the love of the weekend...here is some FW3 on glass porn...sorry for the shotty quality on the pictures but you get the idea I'm sure...

FW3 with Peace Pipe style Glass Bubbler (carb hole on side)

FW3 with J-Hook and 14mm to 18mm Glass Fitter

FW3 with Ice-catcher beaker bong

FW3 with J-Hook, 14mm to 18mm Glass Fitter, and 14mm ash catcher out side coil percolator

FW3 with Ice-catcher beaker bong and 14mm ash catcher out side coil percolator

I also have a micro-bub like @paytonpenn that works really really well. I tend to use the micro-bub dry when I am out in about as it makes a significant difference in the harshness and heat you get without it just by getting you a little further vapor path.

At home I like to experiment with the many differenct options so unfortunately, I can't say I have a favorite...yet...
