Why?
Are people on FC or Reddit more likely to receive a defective product? Statistically, we make up a random sample.
Think about it...

Statistics also show a satisfied customer is likely to only tell a few people about a positive experience, while a person with a negative experience is likely to tell 4x more people about that experience.

Yes we do make up a random sample, but that doesn't mean ever user is choosing to participate and provide their part of the story. Some have had more failures, others have had less. Some people have a hopper and staying the hell away from all threads related to the hopper

What we do know is that failures initially were extremely high, the number of failure reports has declined over recent weeks. Weather this is due to a lack of new shipments recently, or due to a revision in the design which has increased reliability of the product overall - I can't tell.

A niche internet forum is not a random sample of all Grasshopper owners. We can't extrapolate failure rates from a biased sample. Look up sampling bias in terms of statistics. You're not randomly selecting a group of 100 from the whole population of grasshopper owners and checking with GH if they've warrantied or not. Forum participation is voluntary and self-selected, which induces bias into the sample. The average FC forum goer or Redditer is not the same thing as the average vape user.

You also have to consider non-response bias. Someone who's completely satisfied with their Hopper is much less likely to feel the need to talk about it on the internet. Especially at this stage, as a new Hopper owner may feel that they have nothing to add to the discussion since plenty of other people have posted videos and impressions. Someone who's had a problem or had to claim warranty is much more likely to want to come onto the internet to complain.

Do you think that when GHL sends out a specific unit from the line, they are paying attention to whether the shipping address belongs to a poster on FC or Reddit?
If not, then they are sending them out randomly.

There is absolutely no way to know what people who are not going to report back either way (no problems vs. dud) are getting, so we would have to assume. Why would we assume their failure rates are any different than what we are hearing about? Seems more logical, if we have to assume, that they would be about the same.

PS just went on Reddit- 3 reports of new GH breaking (one was a third replacement, the others received in the past two days) - 2 red/blue lights of doom, one back end flying off. But don't worry, I'm sure somewhere off the internet 3 other people are enjoying their functioning units.

Just received tracking info, hopper should be here today. Order did update to partially shipped. (Not sure what the partial shipping thing is all about, seems the shipping list in complete)

Now to distract myself for a few hours so I don't camp out waiting for the mail carrier.

If you follow GHL claims of failure rate there should be 57 other working hoppers out there that won't experience any problems.:\

I have never fought myself harder over a decision before. To refund or not to refund.

Edit: Another one bit the dust on reddit. These new parts sure aren't looking promising. Unless they're still shipping old parts which would not surprise me in the least.

"My gf was among the first backers for the grasshopper and received it on Friday. Last night after loading a fresh one, she adjusted the temperature and the back (part with button) just shot out and looked like the inside of one of those clicky pens with springs everywhere.

It has never even left the house

Never dropped"

The only really logical answer is to refund. Because if they get their shit together and start putting out quality and quantity then you can just make a regular order and get it delivered a week later or if they keep messing up then you either would not get one or would be waiting a long time.

I am pleased with my decision to cancel my pre-order a few weeks ago, especially because I am in Canada and from what I have heard they expect Canadians to pay for postage back to them for warranty issues. I will wait till I can buy it from a Canadian online store like vapeworld and if something is wrong with it then they will take care of the issue. I would be upset if GHL went belly-up and I lost my money,

Logic went out the window months ago when it comes to the Grasshopper unfortunately.

I agree, it was emotion that kept me in the game, wanting to believe the updates. But when I looked at a June 2014 update that said GH's were going out the next month, I realized that I was being taken for a ride.

to be honest if I were you I would cancel my order...

and I am a pre orderer from jan 2015 ... I am waiting for my gh... and yes of course I would be more happy if I had recived it a long time ago...

So...I did end out having to chase the mail carrier down the street. He tried to deliver it to the same address but PL instead of Ave.

Seems the only logical end to this scenario. Disaster narrowly averted.

Anyway a few hoppers have landed and I'm currently testing away. This thing delivers as promised.

Yes, mine still states September 2015. I should have mine before the end of this month and after multiple warranty exchanges, hopefully a consistently working one by April next year.
