Discontinued The Grasshopper

Hey all,

Does anybody know if there is a 3rd party charger that can safely charge 18650 batteries for the Arizer Air and the Grasshopper batteries?

Nitecore Intellicharger I4 (=>2014) or D4. Always insert a minimum of two batteries to take it easier on and enhance the life of smaller capacity batteries. (can be different sizes).

If you only want to do two at a time the I2 or D2 would also work ok.

For sure thank you very much! I went to a friends house recently who has lots of 18650 batteries, but I know the Grasshopper batteries are a little different. Same with the Air, apparently, but for a different reason. But yeah, I mostly wasn't sure if it was okay to charge an 18650 and the Grasshopper battery at the same time on an external charger.

I have 2 GH batteries, I think I'm going to order 2-3 more and an extra Air battery. Is there any difference between an I4 and a D4? I would probably get the D4 on Amazon for $20.

Thanks again :)

The D4 has a digital readout for each battery rather than the 3 LED's used for each battery on the i4 (to indicate charging progress)

If everything moves smoothly we should get the large majority of the units out this month. We will have the shipping estimates updated on the website shortly. You are all incredibly close to receiving your Grasshoppers and we look forward to completing fulfillment.

After reading this and the continuing reports about defective devices I did my homework and researched that shipping the defective GH back from Germany costs 7€ (7.6 US$) and takes 3-7 business days. Add another 4.5€ for express delivery. I need to fill out a customs form CN 22 where I would specify "return defective vaporizer for repair". That is not too bad so I will take my chances and not cancel my order.

Does GHV ship the replacement before the defective unit arrives?

Conflicting reports lately, but it seems they have you ship it back currently. The 'alpha/beta' phase saw ghl shipping replacements to the field with shipping labels to return the busted unit.

I'm personally a fan of the LUC v2 and v4 chargers. V4 will charge up to 2A, which I believe is within the battery spec. If not, it can also do 500ma and 1a.

An update on my most recent problem. My GH had stopped heating up, and was flashing red LEDs as soon as I turned it on. I explained the problem to Caroline at HL, and was instructed to send it back for examination and diagnosis.

After they received it, I received an email from Caroline explaining that it had been examined and tested, and the only problem found was that the battery was dead. They charged it and tested it and found no other issues. It was suggested that my USB charging block (I'd been using a cheap little AC-to-USB charger left over from some other device I had) may be defective, and I should try a different one. I've been using the same one for a couple of months until now with no problems, but I have a couple of different ones laying around so I figured no problem.

So they said they were returning my GH as-is, without any other action. This troubles me just a little bit, because I was under the impression that some fixes / design improvements had been done to units that are more recent than mine. And if the latest version is better, that's what I want!

Anyway, my returned GH arrived and seems to be charging OK on a different USB charger for now.

Does GHV ship the replacement before the defective unit arrives?

I contacted Hopper Labs Monday about both my SS and dark gray Ti unit breaking within 10 minutes, they replied Tuesday that they would replace the broken parts and provided me an address to return them. This is a change, with my previous warranty interactions they sent a paid return envelope. But I did get a shipping confirmation today for my replacement parts. So they aren't waiting for my return parts, YMMV. I have a track record at this point of returning the broken parts. This is my fourth claim...
I'm not overly hard on my GHs, IMO, but I use them a lot. I rotate between two to even out the wear, or something. I love the device, and am still running Frankenstein style, with the SS backend on the dark gray Ti body.
Interestingly they have never replaced the mouthpiece, they send everything else when necessary but not that. Little to go wrong there, and a few dollars saved I suppose. Mouthpiece is the only original part on either of my units.

Just to preempt the questions of my failures, backend popped open while reinstalling it on Ti and the SS developed red/blue lights of death.

I thought I'd check in and give an update.

Sadly, I'm now on my third replacement grasshopper. Individually, the body has now had to be replaced twice (heater failures?)... the led's stopped lighting. Also on my third clicker back end. These parts have died intermittently. It's really a shame - it has been my go to, I only have been using it (when it is working of course). The first clicker end started overheating and then came apart a few months in, the second clicker end (replacement) started overheating a few weeks later. The body was replaced less than a month ago, that replacement just died a few days ago.

To their credit, they have been good at replacing it.. though getting slower and slower in responding.

However, I'm tired of the same old stories - increasing production, "fixing" known problems (odd how they don't seem to get any better despite the claims). To that end, I've cancelled the additional unit I had ordered - tired of waiting for a date that never comes, and don't really see the need to have a second unit that breaks every few weeks. I'll get something else that I can rely on.

It's really too bad. Such promise, but sure does seem like such poor execution.

I honestly would've thought all the kinks would have been ironed out by now but unfortunately they are not. I check this thread every now and then to see if the majority of people received them yet but these pages are still filled with reports of broken Grasshoppers and already answered questions. I wanted to order one once the dust settled but I'm not even hype anymore. I hope they get them out to everyone soon because I suspect most people won't be happy if 2016 arrives and they still don't have a Grasshopper...

keep in mind we don't know when @nonbeliever got his last unit.
they supposedly got a huge batch of redesigned parts about a week or so ago...

I received the replacement body 3 weeks ago. It was not built using the "redesigned" parts they just received. They told me the problem was a heater malfunction - and the replacement unit is having the exact same problem... I don't believe the heater has been redesigned, but who knows. The initial unit I received ran perfectly for months. Then died. The newer parts I've received have not lasted anywhere as long as the original - first replacement clicker end started overheating 3 weeks after I received or so. I just got the replacement for that a few days before the second body crapped out.

It's a photo with bad color ballance shopped onto an unrelated background. Not a color hopper.

Edit: Not entirely sure it's shopped, could be an emmissive display or bright fabric. In any case the lighting on the hopper is wildly disparate from the background which is what makes the image confusing.
