A picture of two dogs hugging each other behind bars hours before being killed in an animal shelter has saved their lives after a charity group posted it on Facebook. The photo went viral and the lucky pair escaped death.
“Exactly 2 hours and 6 minutes. That's how long it took this amazing community of animals lovers [Angels Among Us Pet Rescue charity] to come together to save the lives of two canine friends,” said the group that saves dogs and cats from euthanasia in animal shelters in north Georgia.

Feel good story of the because of what the choir teacher and kids gave to this teacher but get your Kleenex out 'cause tears are gonna flow.

I would take them home in a heartbeat if I could. So miss my doggies. I used to volunteer at the humane society back in the day. So many good pets there that need love.

An Alabama mail carrier is being called a hero after she noticed one of the residents on her route hadn't checked his mail last week, and found the injured man in the home where he'd been trapped for 10 days.

Cissy Cartwright, a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Postal Service in Hope Hull, thought it was unlike Tommy Hope, 66, to not check his mailbox for several days, Post Master Sherry Hughes said.

Knowing Hope suffers from a bad back, Cartwright drove up the long driveway to his home in a secluded rural area. That's when she discovered Hope's front door open.

When Cartwright went to the door to call for Hope, he yelled back for her help. Hope had been on the floor, dehydrated and injured for 10 days after falling in his home on July 4, NBC station WSFA reported.

Hope, who has no immediate family nearby and was unable to reach a phone, did everything he could to survive the ten days with several broken bones.

"He's a really smart man," Hughes said. "He scooted on his back to his front door to catch rain water."

Hughes said Hope is recovering at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery and calls the post office every day with a new update. He is especially thankful for Cartwright.

"I knew she would come," Hughes said Hope told her. "She saved my life."

Postal worker Cissy Cartwright is being called a hero after rescuing a 66-year-old man who had fallen inside his Alabama home.

She knew something was amiss and she ACTED ON IT. So many times we all chose to not act in a situation in which we could have helped(it's not always a life or death situation obviously). It's nice that helping this time, saved a life. I hope somebody of economic means in that town sends her on a nice vacation or something lol. And what a great name. Cissy Cartwright. Fantastic!

I live about a mile away from Arcadia High School and that's were I run every other day at their track. Yesterday, when I was there, there were a bunch of Special Ed kids from all over the city training for the Special Olympics with a lot of regular AHS students in the stands cheering them on. In a surgical first, Philadelphia doctors have transplanted donor hands and forearms onto an 8-year-old boy whose own hands were amputated when he was a toddler.

Zion Harvey told NBC News that the groundbreaking 10-hour operation performed earlier this month at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia was a dream come true. He can't wait for the day he holds his little sister with his new hands.

"My favorite thing [will be to] wait for her to run into my hands as I pick her up and spin her around," he said.

His mother, Pattie Ray, was overcome with emotion as she watched her son being wheeled out of the operating room.

"When I saw Zion's hands for the first time after the operation I just felt like he was being reborn," she said. "I see my son in the light I haven't seen him in five years. It was like having a newborn. It was a very joyous moment for me. I was happy for him."

A 40-member transplant team led by Dr. L. Scott Levin had practiced extensively on cadavers before attempting the operation — a worldwide first — on a child.

According to recent reports, a wealthy British nonagenarian has taken on the daunting task of rescuing as many Syrian Christians from ISIS terrorists as possible. The Catholic Herald explained that George Weidenfeld is dedicating this stage of his life to saving Christians because, if it were not for Christians willing to do the same for him, he would have potentially died under the Nazi regime in control of Vienna.

In 1938, Christians helping children escape to England rescued Weidenfeld, a debt he now hopes to repay.

“The primary objective,” he said of his program, “is to bring the Christians to safe havens. ISIS is unprecedented in its primary savagery compared with the more sophisticated Nazis.”

The world has never seen “such scum as these people,” he said of the Islamic terror organization.

Though Christians are not the only Syrians being persecuted by ISIS militants, Weidenfeld noted that they are his focus because of his unique personal background.

“I had a debt to repay,” he explained. “It applies to so many young people who were on the [rescue route] Kindertransports ….”

The 95-year-old concluded that “we Jews should also be thankful and do something for the endangered Christians.”

Dawson was wearing what she calls her "special hand," a robotic prosthesis designed for the 5-year-old by engineers at UNLV then brought to life using a 3-D printer. It's officially called the Flexy-Hand 2 and modified to fit Hailey. She has a rare condition called Poland Syndrome, which affected the growth of her right hand. She has a pinky, thumb and palm — but no fingers. Not ordinary fingers, anyway. Her family calls hers "nubbins."


So how did a 5-year-old from the Las Vegas area end up throwing out the first pitch in Baltimore? Good question. Her dad, Gregory Dawson, is from Maryland and raised both Hailey and her older brother to be Orioles fans. Hailey threw out a first pitch at a UNLV baseball game, but wanted to try the big leagues. So Hailey's mom, Yong, reached out to the Orioles to link her daughter with the baseball team the family loves. The O's agreed without any fuss.

When things were set into motion, the UNLV engineers created a special Orioles version of Hailey's robohand that she wore Monday and ended up getting signed by Machado, Adam Jones and Chris Davis.


This wasn't just about giving Hailey a memorable experience, Yong Dawson told MLB.com, but also spreading the word about what had been created to help her daughter and how it might help others:

"Ultimately, the goal is not just to have her dream come true, but to expose the hand and that people can get this hand. And it's available to anybody," said Hailey's mom, Yong. "It's so easy, so cheap — especially for someone who is a kid, their arms are going, their hands are going. … I just wanted it to be out there, that, 'Hey, you can get this.'"

She's right. While a typical prosthetic hand can cost thousands of dollars and quickly become too small as kids grow, one like Hailey's can be downloaded and created using a 3-D printer. It's a lot easier if you have a team of engineers at a university helping out, of course, but it's a great alternative nonetheless.

And, who knows, a robohand might lead to another kid meeting his/her favorite baseball player too.

A heavily armed gunman has opened fire on a high-speed train travelling from Amsterdam to Paris before being overpowered by three US citizens, two of whom were soldiers.

Two people were injured in the attack, including one of the Americans, who was admitted to hospital with serious injuries to his hand that needed surgery.

Barack Obama described the men as heroic following the attack on Friday.

A British passenger, Chris Norman, helped the Americans tie up the suspect, and French anti-terrorist police are now questioning him. He was arrested after the train made an emergency stop at Arras, near the French-Belgian border.

The suspect’s motive was not immediately known, but French prosecutors said counter-terrorism investigators were launching an inquiry. According to early briefings, the gunman, 26, was known to French intelligence services and was Moroccan or of Moroccan origin.

Belgian prosecutors said on Saturday they had formally opened an anti-terrorism investigation. “We have opened an inquiry as the suspect boarded the train in Brussels.

How I long for the days when we were considered heroes. Some one in a movie would note soldiers are coming, then the cry goes out "It is the Americans!" and everyone rejoices.
Just when was it that we lost that?

An Iowa barber has developed a creative way to get kids reading.

Courtney Holmes, a barber in Dubuque, offered free haircuts to kids who read out loud to him during an appointment on Saturday, USA Today reported. The initiative was part of a back to school event, and Holmes hopes the storytelling will help young students strengthen their reading skills.

"The kids would come in, and I would say, 'Go to the table and get a book you might like, and if you can't read it, I'll help you understand and we can read it together,'" Holmes told the news outlet.


Called the Back to School Bash, Saturday’s event featured a number of nonprofits and community groups, including a youth enrichment program that gave away books -- some of which were read to Holmes, according to the Associated Press. Holmes’s initiative, which took place at Spark Family Hair Salon, led to a partnership with the My Brother's Keeper program and the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque to further promote early literacy, the salon shared in a Facebook post.

"It's great. All the kids, they want to have a good haircut to go back to school," said Caitlin Daniels, a grade-level reading coordinator in Dubuque, according to the Associated Press. "They're paying through reading."

Junaisy Vargas, 6, has a lot of wishes in life - No. 4 seems the most impossible.

"I want to be a mermaid. That's my wish," she said.

Junaisy of Las Vegas has Ewing's Sarcoma, a bone marrow cancer that primarily affects children and adolescents.

Most of her hair is gone because of chemotherapy, but for a special photo shoot she put on a wig and entered into a fantasy universe of her own creation.

It was all made possible by Shawn Van Daele, a photographer who turns dreams into reality through The Drawing Hope Project . He visited the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation and photographed several kids.

Junaisy drew a picture for Van Daele and he turned Vargas into a real mermaid.

His mission is to bring hope and inspiration to everyone who needs it, especially children living with health conditions. He has brought dozens of these fantasies to life. Parents who hear of him reach out through social media. There are lots of superheroes and flyers.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - After running more than 20 miles, you sometimes just can't get across that finish line on your own. Luckily, for one Plymouth man, he got some help when he needed it the most.

KARE 11's Bryan Piatt captured some video Sunday as 75-year-old Rick Kleyman was helped across the finish line by two other men. Kleyman had fallen and bruised his him. He was adamant about getting over the finish line.

Kleyman's son said through Facebook that his dad has been a running coach for more than 50 years at Armstrong, Wayzata and now at Providence Academy.

This seemed like an appropriate place to put this, and while it's not as life changing as many of the above, it's something that made me smile and something that involves vaping.

Recently got in contact with an old buddy of mine, few months back, hadn't seen him in a while. We chit chat, all's well, just like old times. He still smokes weed, and when I saw him I was always out and about with other people who smoked weed, so combustion seemed his only answer.

Gave him a ring the other day and let him know he needs to stop by the crib sometime to try out my new Cloud EVO, he gets back to me and tells me he'll be by this weekend, and mentions he needs to get himself a vape (under $100 he told me), it would conserve his weed much better and he wants to cut all smoking out since he quit cigarettes.

I was super blasted off my EVO, but I just got to thinking about the vapes I had, and how I was trying to sell my Firefly, and how I had just an abundance of things I don't really use that much. My very first vape was a MFLB in 2009, and I had just gotten some 3rd party batteries a few months back, tried it out, works still.

So, when he came by on Saturday to try out the EVO, I gifted him my MFLB and batteries, and let him know that I just never used it anymore and it needed a better home where it would get some love. He was super excited about it, he didn't get an opportunity to try it out though as the batteries needed charged.

I wake up this morning to a text from him, "Dude, this thing is so fuckin sweet, can't thank you enough. I'm about to order so much shit off their site" Gave me a big smile, knowing I helped my buddy, that he was enjoying it, and I got someone to give up combustion, or at least set them on the path.

This is a feel good story of yesterday, but it made me feel good and inspired me to make others feel good today

I'm a bit of homebody, the vast majority of my friends go to the pub every night to have a few beers. I tend not to go out, for one because it's literally what they do all the time, and two, I don't like drinking all that much and I find it easy for me to overindulge which can lead to an array of problems (acting like an idiot, taking that chance even if you feel sober that you'd get pulled over and fucked with .08-.09) I already have had legal issues to a degree, so I don't want to put myself in a bad situation where I can lose control....despite a conscious effort not to lose control, it still can happen occasionally (it has been awhile though and is something I fear).

So, for a period of time, I was kind of just MIA, no one had seen me or heard from me, no fault of their own, other then I was just trying to distance myself a bit. Over time through this year, I've started to go out occasionally, a Thursday night here, a Sunday night there, the bar can be fun in moderation, and these are my friends so it is good to see them and catch up on things.

Anyways, I decided to go out last night for the Steeler's game, I head to the bar, see some familiar faces. My one friend just started dating some girl a few weeks back, I'd never met her or hung out with her in any capacity.

So, I socialize. A pretty good time. Time starts getting late, I need to get back home to sleep. I go around, make my goodbyes. I get to my buddies new GF, and she goes:

"Hey! I hear you only come out in spurts, come out more! YOU are awesome! Don't let anyone say otherwise, YOU'RE FUCKING AWESOME!"

It made me feel great that I left such a good impression upon someone I hadn't met before, and also just generally made me feel good. It's nice knowing sometimes that despite any shortcomings or doubts you may have with yourself, that people view you as "fucking awesome," just from a few hours of socializing.

So, make a point to tell a friend or someone you think is awesome, that they're awesome! It will make their day I felt like a million bucks, funny that such a small compliment could have such an effect, but it really did make me feel great!

The universe though, must have to maintain some sort of balance. I wake up this morning, my car's battery is completely dead
