DDave Mod, New DDave Mini Mod & Kit for Arizer EQ/VTower Vapes

I was able to open everything in my full DDave kit last night, and upon inspection everything arrived undamaged as expected. Put the screen in the 18mm F/F short adapter and after playing around with it it seems to be sealing to the edges of the adapter despite not being perfectly even around.

Loaded the adapter in the smooth configuration, and both myself and my fiancée found it very similar to elbow packs in the standard EQ, except for holding twice as much so not needing to repack or each vape our own elbow. Very happy with the results in the smooth configuration.

Today I was back at my parents' house where my EQ lives, and was able to try out the power configuration, packing the basket screen on the 18mm wand. Started out at 200°C and finished at 220°C, and got amazing cloud production from first hit to last! No delay in the bowl producing vapor, and can seriously cloud my 500ml bong.

@DDave earlier in the thread you mentioned the possibility of including a mouthpiece in the kit. I just got a Vapor Brothers 14mm GonG adapter, which not only makes a great standard mouthpiece but also allows the whip to be easily attached to the 14mm slide on my bong and my 14mm hydrotube. If my experience is similar to others, I had a hell of a time finding the right adapter, so if you can source something like this (http://www.vapornation.com/vaporbrothers-h20-adapter-14mm.html) I think it would make an awesome inclusion to the kit, maybe along with an 18mm version.

Will report back when I get a chance to try the 14mm wand and adapter, but I'm loving the 18mm! Awesome work DDave, thanks for putting this incredible kit together!

@Treeburner
Thanks for the feedback and glad to see you're enjoying the variety and performance of the kit! Great details!

Also I appreciate the link to the whip adapter. I just contacted another last week on a similar adapter. Will check on this one too, so I can include some type of water tool attachment and/or mouthpiece with the kits.

Looking forward to your report on the 14mm setup as well!

Herb gardener...
What, I have recently ordered 2 separate kits from @DDave, and I have had no customs charge on my kits. I live in Hertfordshire. My first kit went on an all inclusive tour of Europe for a couple of weeks before it finally came to me. This was a rare delay from @DDave. My second kit arrived in 6 days.

I bought an ssv wand from Australia which I had to pay 25 quid customs charge.

We need more good uk vape accessories distributors. There is a gap in the market here that needs filling.
And could make someone rich.

Damn you Customs people.......so my @DDave kit is here in UK but been slapped with a £15 Import duty. Just a heads up for those people, like me, who forgot about it! Doh

Anyhoo, should be here on Wed so getting pretty excited ;)

Here we go for ref (from Royal Mail):

Receiving mail from countries outside the UK
All mail that enters the UK may be examined by Customs. Normally letters, postcards and parcels containing only documents or similar forms of correspondence are excluded.
If you are receiving a parcel from a country outside the EU it may incur Customs charges. Any parcel assessed as being liable for Customs charges will also incur a Royal Mail handling fee of £8.
Any goods imported into the UK over the value of £15 are liable to import VAT. Gifts between private individuals over the value of £36 are also liable for VAT. Goods and gifts over these values may also be liable for customs duty. You no longer have to pay Customs duty for goods up to the value of £135, however you will still be required to pay import VAT and excise duty where applicable.
Please note these limits do not apply to alcohol and tobacco goods where both excise duty and import VAT may be charged. It is not permitted to send alcohol and tobacco products into the UK from another EU country unless prior arrangements have been made to account for the excise duty.

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
Reinforcement is a great idea and a slight variation makes my setup less kinky :) and is easy to swap between 14 and 18mm
Once you get the reinforcing collar on, slide it about an inch along the main tube. Brute force works. Pro tip: A tiny bit of soap+water will act as a lubricant to make it slide easily. Just don't forget to wash it off...
Photograph shows it against your shot as a kind of comparison. Colours are actually the same but mine are badly lit!

I will refer to this pic often to new users. Was trying to explain these hose techniques earlier in the thread. I use Silicone hose strips for other things with my EQ also.

I cut an inch off the spare whip so it's exactly the same diameter/thickness silicon tube - lubricate the whip you want to reinforce with some soap solution then fold/collapse/squash one end the whip tip lengthwise and poke it through the 1" piece (reinforcing collar). Once it's through, push the collar about an extra inch along allowing the main tube will unfold and their combined strength will stop most kinking. Rinse well and enjoy...
DDave,
I'm happy with the current tube you're using because reinforcing collars are all I need to ensure it doesn't kink when I'm using it and
I don't mind using it over the 14mm (and inside the 18mm) wand - it's airtight both ways as long as enough tubing is in contact with the wand glass.
The silicone tube you supplied is much better for me than the icky stock plastic for sure.
Of course, it's easy for me because I'm healthy but it could be hard for medicinal users with impaired muscle strength or with movement disorders - but I can't think of any simple solution for both wands to make it easier to swap the whip...
Wow didn't realize this thread had this much activity lately. Feel like I need to catch up.
@DDave the I.D. & O.D of hose and the type of screens in the kits are spot on. If anything, more of the same. Please keep getting the same dimension and type of both. The hose fits well, over and inside the 18mm wand as well. Also the kit plays well with other generic 18mm/14mm glass parts. I would try to keep that modular approach open. :2c: What you don't offer in the kit, is more available out there and with the stock kit. Stock PVC hose, Ordinary screens, SSV wands.

Innie or an outie ? I do think the hose stretches over the outside of the wand much easier than plugging on a PVC hose. It is even easier to fit inside a 18mm conical fitting. I do think of those with less hand dexterity and strength than myself using the kit. But changing the dimension size of the hose, might be a step backward. Although, I heard EQ has changed the type of hose they are using now. Curious about that.:hmm:

The 14mm adapters work great for me as whip ends/mouth pieces. I would rather have an extra 14mm bowl than say a special mouthpiece. Not that you couldn't come up with a Deluxe version with some hookah tips or something. But they look nearly as good as some of the intentional manufactured mouthpieces. Plus you can set them upright because the bottom is already flat.

I like your wands, But if you went with thicker glass and kept the full I.D. of the old one, that would be an improvement. I do think the mesh of the screen and the wide throat of the wand is what really enhances the heat of the shorter bowl. I do have a downstem that I have used as a wand. It is made of thicker glass and has a narrower throat than your wand. It also conducts heat better, if that is desirable thing. Something like that would be a good 2nd 18mm wand option. Your's being the #1 for being a no-nonsense straightforward 18mm tube wand. :peace:

This has also happened to me matey the UK customs are a bunch of nosey baaastuards there isn't any need for it and I shall be passing it onto my admin team (mate that's dealt with them a few times before and has nothing to do) hopefully I'll be getting my refund from them

Thanks CF! I think I am going to keep the same hose, but add a piece of thicker/larger silicone tubing in kits after next replenishment that can work as support collars (or whatever purpose a person wishes to put them to). I will announce the change, once available. Also will look into getting these "collars" out to those who've already obtained kits.

I am actively researching 14mm and 18mm whip adapters to include in the kits. Mouthpieces as well. So many varieties, am looking for a good all-purpose solution!

I do think the mesh of the screen and the wide throat of the wand is what really enhances the heat of the shorter bowl.
Spot on! I tested quite a few variations in screens, basket dimensions and wands with different IDs... The pieces in the kits were found to offer best performance and extraction characteristics.

I like your wands, But if you went with thicker glass and kept the full I.D. of the old one, that would be an improvement.
This I sent off an inquiry on and await a reply.

Your posts are always so detailed! Thanks for investing the time in them! A valuable resource regardless of the subject matter that you present!!!

UK customs are a bunch of nosey baaastuards
If possible, I will find a way to avoid these extra charges!!!! Thanks to everyone who brought this to my attention.

The real "pisser" is that some get hit with them and some do not... Is this fair? :goon:

Ahh women, the 'special' species. A separate money account is needed for you my friend and a very friendly mate that has too much money also. Just to cover your back failing that give her a big 'fuck you' and walk in the house with your new threads

What grinder are you using? I'm using an MFLB Nano grinder and didn't have any fall through the screen. Also, do you use a water tool that has any back-pressure at the end of a draw. Remote, but heard it can push bits through a screen when the pressure equalizes.

Regarding the addition to the included instructions, don't know if you've seen many of my posts in other threads, bit I love a good laugh! Had one when I read your comment on updating the instructions. Also thought it would be great to pass along both the laugh and the really good advice it contained. Thanks for giving me the OK to use. Watch for future updates....

@All
I'm definitely going to look into a thicker walled tubing. Will post once I can source. What about screens for the adapters? Any consensus on keeping the existing mesh or a finer mesh? Note, the finer mesh, by nature, is more restrictive and less sturdy than the screens in the kits. I've not decided, but maybe I'll include both so there's a choice of which to use.

Wow sorry for the delay. Just got back from LAX. Went on a 2 week vacation/forced t-break as I didn't want to risk it in another country. I'm using a cheapy Chromium Crusher and have tried both grinding upside down and regular and it seems a little too fine. Not using any water tools, just strictly hitting the whip.

I prefer going on the outside, even on the 18mm adapter. But that's just my preference.

I'm a little scared since it's been a while and I ate all the food in my house before I left. Nothing worse than having the munchies with nothing to eat lol. I may have to wait until tomorrow.

I received the full kit, perfectly packed and intact early last week, thanks DDave. I'm mostly a weekend only toker and so I've only had chance to use the short mini adaptor with mini 14mm in power mode and the results have been outstanding. I bought an 18mm downstem and 14mm > 18mm adaptor for my table standing WT. Having also placed the 14mm and 18mm wands on opposite ends of a short length of hose, I'm easily able to swap configurations between 14mm and 18mm.

I got mine yesterday.... Quite content myself!:leaf:

Am very pleased to hear the kits keep arriving safely!
For me, USPS has been

Glad to hear you all like them!
All the feedback I've received in the threads, PM's, eBay and email have me feeling like this!

Three things I am working on:
* reinforcement collars for whip tubing
* 18mm whip tube water tool adapters
* whip tube replacements

The collars are shipping out to me Wednesday! Basically, I very thick piece of silicone tubing for which the kit tubing will fit inside. To use on the 18mm wands, one would take a 2" piece and put over the wand about 1", leaving 1" off. Then the whip tubing can be inserted into the tubing and wand. This combo flexes enough to provide angle and not have the kit tubing kink.

Will be including these in future kits and looking for a way to get them to those who've already purchased kits (need to work out shipping & packaging details to see if economically possible).

Will post updates on the other two items as soon as possible!

Again, Thanks everyone!!!!

kellya86

Herb gardener...
Glad to see you've gone for the reinforcement sleeve. It works treat for me.

No kinking and still the flexibility and freedom I like swinging my whip about.
