Glass VaporGenie

funny, that's the exact same jet lighter that I have and use with my handcarved vaporgenie
I have it since june now, started using the jet lighter for my VG mid june-begin july I think, it was when the pipe lighter I also had from dealextreme stopped working(first many clicks needed for ignition, then it started leaking gas, you could hear the sissing)
and this jet lighter still works fine, but if you go trough a tank of gass you'll have to slowly increase the flamesize(the actual flame doesn't increase that much) to keep the flame(otherwise it starts stuttering)
nd since you have to aply the flame for less time, it actually doesn't use much more lightergas as with regular flame(about the same I think, or maybe even less)
since june I'm now in my 2nd bus of gas I think

Yeah when buying "cheap" stuff from dealextreme I'd recommend buying 2-3 at a time. The Honest brand is usually pretty good but like anything you can get a clunker once in while :uhoh:

I heartily agree with this; I've used the torch lighters linked above for over a year and have to open up a new one every few months..they are good while they last though :)

I seriously consider to make a video, which will show how bad quality are those ceramic VG filtters... it leaves dust and soot and consequently shrinks its size. I am glad now that im not inhaling it anymore because I use Glass VG with HDvape which works even better ... review coming soon

any update on this? thanks.

The glass VG's look damn sexy, but lighter based vapes should be used more for on the go, and having a nice, glass piece like that on the go would be too much of a hassel, in my opinion.

Anyone know why people can't just order the glass VG bowl to connect to a water pipe?

Has anyone tried a spirit lamp? Was thinking of getting one as they are said to burn quite pure.
Thanks

Soaking it in ISO is pretty much the best thing to do. If you don't care about collecting the goo I'd add some rock salt in there to hasten the cleaning.

Ah nice one!
What about the dirt? Im using a not so fine screen .. hope it will just come out.

I usually use a bamboo earpick to scoop up the worse of it (that stuff is pretty potent) and fill the remain with iso and some coarse salt. Seal both end with some plastic wrap and vigorously shake. Shouldn't take more then a couple minutes to have it all cleaned up looking like new.

Hi everybody,

I just received my glass Vapor Genie. I already have the Extreme Vaporizer. The VG is very very nice and I recommend it. There's a learning curve for the lighter but once you get it, it really vaporizes. You can easily burn some of the weed if you apply the flame too big or close or hit too hard). The first hit I took the thing was flwaming in the bowl. I looked at the ceramic filter and it looked like it had a hole in it. I was pissed! But it's cause I applied it too close. The "hole" went away and now I'm careful to not get the flame too close. It's a great portable product and easily gives big hits almost like a bong. I love the fact that you can add when mixed with bubble. See you and great site here!

Growvaper,
Why hasn't Vaporgenie produced a Glass-on-Glass jointed vaporgenie bowl? Simply fusing on the "Bowl" portion below the narrowing below the screen to a male joint would create a glass on glass Vaporgenie product, at less of an expense than the current glass vaporgenie. That bowl could be plugged into J hooks and be essentially the same in function as the Glass VG is now, while also being compatible with a hundred other forms of smoking implement.

Seems like a wasted market. If I still blew glass or had the cash for a studio, I would churn those out for the forum for sure.

Growvaper, I'm glad you're getting the hang of it!

Charlie, that would be really cool, maybe you should e-mail them and we can all hope they take your advice

i dont remember reading this here before and im fairly blazed but wanted to poost before i forgot this.

i have founda trick. do the first hit as a warm up as usual. then second hit, draw slowly for about 8-10 secs with bic flame, stop flame and contineu to draw but bump the end of the pipe as you draw, bump it repeatadly as you draw...it does wonders for me. i think its tossing the greens around to get the heat all around and not just on one side.

crawdad,
I've been really enjoying my second hand glass vaporgenie. I think it's worth mentioning that the filter works great with the Magickwand bowls if you care to use them in a vaporbong setup, despite the far greater length from bowl to filter. I imagine most any rigged setup might work.

I'm using a jet lighter almost exclusively. There's an art and a science to it, but once you've got it, it works pretty great.

I can clearly see dark dust on my fingers sometimes after handling the filter itself. This wasn't really obvious in my previous vaporgenies because their ceramic filters were entombed in wood in once case and in metal in the other. With the glass VG you can pop it out and get a real good look, and it's pretty clear that there are little chips and what have you out of the filter. I don't at all expect this to be due to mishandling by the previous owner, I think it might just be manufacturing margin of error or just due to use.. But it's still somewhat worrying that the ceramic is clearly such a fragile thing. We're likely inhaling some of its dust, and if you aren't using water filtration, there's nothing to stop it.

Thoughts?

i have never touched the filter itself, best i can tell by inspecting the top and bottom its all still intact. if you are taking it out im sure you have dislodged parts since, as you say, its very fragile. only time i plan on touching mine is if im replacing it and in that case i think i might just get the whole top with it already installed to prevent mishandling.

crawdad,
Mmm, it might be best to leave it be.

My only thing is that the filter isn't in -that- tight, it just friction fits with the ground glass surface. There isn't supposed to be a wire or anything to keep it in place? I didn't have the intention of taking it out, it just fell out once onto the table when I had the filter GonG portion upside down. Maybe this is one of the miraculous shrinking VG filters and it doesn't fit like it used to. Still seems to work great, though.

charlie, i believe that the top fits in an 18mm downstem.

Ive seen a video of a GVG top on a toro on youtube. I thought I rememebered reading that it was compatible with other 18mm joints.

did you try it?

There is a metal wire that holds the filter in place on the glass model; you said you bought your second-hand so I'm guessing the previous owner removed it and didn't tell you. That's a bummer! The VG maintenance pack comes with 2 wire coils, but I'm not sure if the classic VG coils are the same size as the glass VG coils or not.

Rin101,
Thanks for being so helpful on this, Rin.

Yeah, I thought I remembered reading about a retaining wire when I first read about the glass VG years ago. It really does work completely fine without it, and the filter stays unless I try to pop it, but I guess the filter is in constant friction with the ground glass and that can't be good for it.. I'll email vaporgenie and see what they have to say. I know they send out screens and mouthpieces for free as part of their appreciation for their customers, maybe they'll send me a wire.

And caseball, I've tried using the Glass VG top with the Magickwand bowls and it works excellently. I've only tried a jet lighter which worked superbly. It's a worthy rival to the Glass vapobowl, vapocane and the like. Anyone who owns a Glass VG already and also has a glass collection owes it to themselves to procure a bowl which can be used with the glass VG filter.

charliedontsurf, does your filter have a light gray appearance on top or is it dark or perhaps have dark blotches around the edge? curious. mine is normally pretty gray looking unless someone borrows mine to take a few hits and puts the flame way too close, then i see black blotches.

crawdad,
I'd say it's gray, with actually some brown staining stuff going on near the center of the upper half. Maybe from my use of a jet lighter? I'm curious - still haven't emailed the VG people so no word on that.

I have to say I am really loving my Glass VG though. A big, thin jet flame, like a big needle, at a pretty good distance is what works for me. I can put in a tiny pinch of material (PD like, I imagine) and get 3 or 4 nice clouds, with wonderful, even convection hits. I do kind of wish the whole thing was more portable and pocket friendly, like there should be a 6 inch, more compact glass VG and the option for our 10 or 11 inch head pipe. Just a thought.
