Edibles don't hit me at all. Suggestions?

A long time ago I used to smoke cannabis, but now that I'm trying to get back in it (mainly for helping with sleep) I found it was very hard on my lungs. Probably because my lungs are already damaged from chemicals in the garage! So I've been succesfully vaping cannabis for 1/2 a year or so now. I love it.

When I vape, I vape about 2 pinches of bud, (1 or 2 penny sized nugs fresh ground up) then aired out for a few minutes and vaped for 4-5 bags (Arizer Q). That's plenty for me to end my working day comfortably and help me sleep. And I've been happy with that amount every evening.

From a reputable dispensary's employees suggestion for an alternative way to take cannabis without sitting down with a bag for an hour, I tried some edibles. I first tried 5mg (which was suggested for first time edible-ers), then 10mg. Then 20, then 60. I swear I can't feel anything. I wait for 3 hours each time, then it's well past time for me to get some sleep, and I can't get to sleep, so I break out the vape for an hour.

Any suggestions? I've heard that Edibles hit alot differently than smoking/vaping, but so far I'm not getting anything at all, not even a mild relaxation. I'm not trying to stop vaping, I'm just looking for an alternative for those nights where I don't have time to sit down on the couch for an hour and tend the vape bag.

Try to double check that the edible product is truly what it says it is.
Not very long ago, some random name-brand dispensary edibles were bought and tested and some were like 1/10 their claimed potency.
Hopefully, that's been fixed or they have gone out of business but make sure the doses are true to what they claim.

That big a dose should bring big effects. It takes longer as the liver metabolizes it but each person's body is different. 60 mg for me would be several doses.
I'm sure some heavier users will let you know what happens to them with 60 mg of edibles.

Save your abv, grind it fine, simmer it on low heat in a pyrex container immersed in water for a couple hours in enough coconut oil to cover it. Strain it and you'll end up with cannabis coconut oil that becomes solid at room temp. Store it in your fridge, then microwave some of it with an equal amount of chocolate chips for around 20 secs. Start by eating a small chunk of the infused chocolate til you find a comfortable dose. You should produce consistant batches pretty quickly. It will take around 1/2 hour or so to kick in and you should be medicated for around 5 hours. Edibles are metabilized through the liver where the thc converts to 11 hydroxy.

I'm not sure what you can expect from that. I'd start with 0.1 gram at least, I think you'll need 0.2-0.3 to feel it properly. I usually do around 1 gram but that gets you out of your mind stoned for 8-16 hours.

Be careful though... it hits REALLY hard compared to smoking. I thought I was an advanced smoker after using it 5 years daily but edibles are a whole different level. I was smoking 3-5 grams a day but 1 gram of edible was by far the most intense experience I had with weed. Every fiber of your body screams you're stoned.

Once you're stoned out of your mind and you think "this is it" it gets worse and worse for a few more hours. I've had points where I was convinced I would remain stoned for the rest of my life. This will probably not happen that bad with a small amount though but with low tolerance it can still be pretty intense.

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to take before sleeping because of the amount needed before you feel anything, if you actually take that amount you'll already be too stoned to sleep I think. At least personally if I took edibles and want to sleep while too stoned the whole world spins worse than when you are drunk.

For me and my friends it mostly takes 2-3 hours before it hits, I don't know why everything online says 30-90 minutes. The peak is around 3-4 hours after eating (and the peak lasts for a really long time)

When we ate it the first time a few went home after 2:30 hours cause nobody felt anything. 30 minutes later we were all drooling and rolling on the floor laughing. The poor bastards spent 12 hours in their beds tripping alone. I get tears in my eyes just thinking about this.

You can also eat a small amount and after 1-2 hours smoke a very small amount to give you the 'push' in the right direction. That worked for me with low amounts of edibles. I never felt anything from less than 0.2 gram edibles though, and that was still pretty mild.

fyi, he's talking a 5-60 mg THC dosage, not 5 -60 mg of edible mass.
For example, a complete 10-piece chocolate bar edible might be 100 mg dose, and the recommended dose is 10 mg THC so one piece.
He's been working his way up to 60 mg with no effect.

buck wild, like others said you can try making your own. Infused coconut oil + melted chocolate + peanut butter does a good job of hiding the flavor.

@buck_wild, look at when you had your last meal, and what that last meal was comprised of, when eating edibles. On a full stomach, it will digest slower, but in a different way too, more like the effect is spread out. Also, some foods will aid digestion of the actives, and some will slow that process down.
I prefer to eat edibles at least two hours after having dinner. That way the effects come up faster, but stronger too.
It seems that when i eat my edibles on a full stomach, i need more, it takes longer and the effects are lighter.

Every so often someone pops up who doesn’t have success with some form of consumption for some reason. Bummer! Perhaps you could consider a different vapeing approach with your EQ. What happens when you drop the bag and go with the whip?

@howie105, well done for thinking outside the box. While I'm thinking of why his edibles may not be working, your thinking why is he vaping for an hour anyway.

If that is his only problem then there is many other possibilities to shorten your session time. As @howie105 said, maybe drop the bags and go with the whip.

With my eq and ddave setup I can go from cold vape to baked in ten mins.
I get in at 5:30, hit the power button, 220, fan 1, 3 mins, and my 14mm wand and ff would be nicely toasty, add the herb and let sit at 190 for 2 mins. Then vape at 200 with a single draw full extraction. Wait 5 mins. And I am now nicely toasted.

I then carry on with my duties through the night until 9 o'clock comes, kids are in bed. Then I switch to my 18mm ddave kit, load a full short 18mm adapter and vape myself silly for an hour. By the end of this I am burnt toast.

But my point is I can medicate very quickly and efficiently. Would take me longer to eat a cake.

Making your own is the best. It works with almost any normal cake/brownie mix, just put in 10 grams and slice it in 20 pieces and you're guaranteed to be baked for a long time. Make sure you use the correct butter, google for guides.

The most effective way is to make weed butter, just google it, pretty simple to make. You can use the weed butter afterwards on any food you want since the THC is already absorbed and the flavour isn't that bad.

If you like hash I can recommend hash chocolate milk, put in 0.5-1 gram. While the flavour is a bit strong it gives a great euphoria and for me personally music sounds out of this world.

Edibles just don't have that strong of an effect on me, either.

I recently made some gummies with 1g of some high quality shatter. I decarbed the shatter mixed with some coconut oil and lecithin. Then melted down the gummies and mixed it in. Kept it stirred as it cooled, and was a nice homogeneous mixture.

Ended up eating a total of ~225mg throughout the day. Popped 75mg in the afternoon on the way to the airport, another 75mg changing planes, and another 75mg when I got to the show (Tool/Primus on Halloween!).

Don't get me wrong, I definitely felt something. Just not nearly what I could have felt if I had vaped that .2g of shatter.

Gave the rest away after the show, and others said they worked nicely for them.

Bummer, would like to have the option for edibles when desired. I definitely won't be using any more fresh shatter or bud for it, but will need to attempt a super stout AVB recipe sometime in the future.

If edibles are not having much of an effect you simply aren't eating enough!

I occasionally make butter with left over trim, one spoon puts the most hardcore smokers on their arse for hours. If you are not getting an effect, the dose must be too low.

Yes and no. Different people metabolize things differently. Edibles have a varying effect on different people. Think that's a pretty sweeping generalization you're going with.

I ate 225mg the other day, that's a dose that would lay most people out from what I've read here. I only had a mild effect.

So yes, I could increase the dose for more effect, but it's simply not worth it economically for me at that point. I would get a much better buzz for longer if I had just vaped that amount.

Using ABV is different, as that's not going to be vaped again. I'm talking about using first run stuff.

Whether its economical is not the same arguement as whether it works. If you eat edibles and they have no effect, increasing the dose will at some point have an effect(despite your tolerance or metabolism), that's not a generalisation its a simple fact.

I prolly shouldn't say this, but experimenting with medibles I found to be a bit slow, so instead I plan on having too much, but keep some tunes handy, and maybe a vid or two of something totally mindless (Kentucky Fried Movie anyone?) and sit back to see how wierd it gets. It's never been *that* bad, but when I overdo it I just nap. The wife found out the term is 'green out', and kinda likes the term. It's funny watching her bring it up in conversations ;)
