Firewood Vaporizer

I have only tried Air/ESV/Zion of those, but imo any on demand convection unit will taste better than session conduction mixed in, so Air Prima and Crafty are all worse than the others in my mind... For me it was also ESV at the top, with those instant hits in the wide open metal chamber, but Zion was insanely mouthwatering at first and new production units have enhanced vapor quality significantly with tweaks to heater orientation...

Between GH and FW, its the short vapor path that makes it hotter/harsher perhaps, but still very flavorful too, I'd expect FW to be better on harshness but just speculating as I continue to try to decide
Thx @Shit Snacks! And that's why we need a comparisons thread. I don't think many will have experience with all vapes others are considering. But when experiences are combined, we get a much better picture.

I had a great night with the Firewood! went through four or five capsules' worth (not all at once!) before the battery even got down to level 2, still from the factory charge. By then I was feeling exceedingly toasty, so I plugged it in and passed out.

This morning I stuffed a couple little chunks of Durban Poison shake into a capsule, got some good hits, then had to stir and break it up to finish. So grinding or shredding is a good idea, and it's super easy to load by just scooping up some grounds.

An airtight/smell-proof case would be nice when taking it out of the house... maybe just big enough to hold a couple preloaded capsules & mouthpieces?

Only the vapor production from one hit from the Zion should blow the ESV and Firewood away I would think.
Nah, the Firewood should be able to match the Zion neither should produce better one hits. But Zion should be easier to get better one hits.

When I can do my small bowls through glass video this will be very apparent.

I've combusted a few times on 4 but I was also asking for it.

Just so Dab HAppy!
The Zion has an increased diameter size when compared to the Firewood so I would expect larger hits in less time from the Zion over the Firewood. The ESV is actually faster than the Firewood and most likely for this same reasoning. The surface area of the ESV and the Zion is much larger, therefore you are getting the heat directly on the flowers without having to go through a path of ABV flowers.

I'm sure the Firewood will produce big hits, it milked my Bong pretty well last night even, but I can't see it providing bigger hits than the Zion based only on principals and theories. I will find out before the end of the year hopefully as I am a Zion pre-order!

Regardless, I am loving the honeymoon with the Firewood. I think my brand new ESV will get dusty before I even break it in and my Daisy will get some much needed rest. The Firewood on the other hand will be used and abused all week!

That's a bold claim! I can get a big rip in 5 seconds starting from cold with my Zion. With my FW2.1 I need to hold the trigger for 40 seconds to 1 minute to be able to get my first hit.

The power output figure for the FW3 hasn't been released but seeing the power source used and the discharge rate of your average NiMh, I'm willing to bet it can't output as many Watts as the Zion. Also the Zion is voltage regulated so you don't get much of a power drop when the cells are depleted. With my FW I need to hold the trigger longer and longer until it's flat.

Also the Zion has a patented heater tech with much more surface area, and as @nosmoking said a larger airpath diameter...

But I hope someone will be able to do a side by side comparison. @Shit Snacks looks like he could be the one...

The question is: can the FW3 hit as hard as a desktop? Because this is what we compare the Zion with...

@Shit Snacks that's a tough one...

Personally I think I would go with the Firewood but that's only because I have plenty of other desktop vapes and no good portables....

@KeroZen I think you can get a hit from the FW comparable to a desktop vape but I don't think it would be as easy as getting the same hit from a desktop if that makes sense.

It DEFINITELY gets me just as baked as any of my desktops.

Haha yeah, I've got so many strong portables (including ones still yet to ship) but had sold my LSV when I got the UD cuz it was such a monstrosity... Lily and ESV just as good too

Now Evo makes me feel like I need a reliable desktop in the stable, but the much cheaper Firewood seems like a more rational placeholder for Zion/GH/Indica doesn't it?

Very interested in the new FW!

A few questions if you have the time guys…

How harsh is the vapor at 3-4 with a full ορhalf capsule? It's a fairly short vapor path right?
How much time does it take for recharging if fully discharged?

5 hour recharge from dead and the vapor is definitely pretty harsh on heat level 4 but it really doesn't bother me a whole lot. I'm used to an LSV with about an inch and a half air path too though so I may not be the best judge of harshness.

I'm having trouble getting vapor on level 3. I use a grinder and fill the capsule about half way. I've tried 3 different strains. I've been messing around with draw speed. Once in a while I will get a big hit but I mostly get these small mflb like clouds. Anyone have any tips?

You probably aren't activating the heater before every hit. I don't think the draw sensor is very sensitive at all so I have to give it a pretty good rip to make sure it's activated sometimes.

I honestly think a button that you press when you want it to start heating would be a better solution.

Okay I will try doing that before each hit and see if it helps. Thanks. Have you had any difficulty like this?

Through a water pipe I have no problem getting clouds. Go figure.

I can't stop wondering why they are not using a couple of 18650 instead, or 4x18350? 5hours of recharge? Can't get over it! And it looks so sweet… :luv:

EDIT: I am sure there are reasons for going with the AA batteries but this makes the vape unusable for people with a bit high consumption… OK, enough nagging!

Yeah I have had trouble like that and I started removing the bowl and pulling directly on the wood so you can instantly feel when the heater kicks on on your lips/mouth.

Totally silly to have vape with semi replaceable batteries take 5 hrs to charge.

He definitely should have used 14500 Lipo batteries as they are the same form factor as AA batteries.

I agree, this sounds like the likely issue. The draw sensor is a LOT less sensitive when it is at idle temp vs. when it is hot. You will need to give a harder draw to start it, but you can go much slower a few seconds after the initial draw because the heater will be hot and the draw is very easy to detect at that point.

I have thought long and hard about this and I can explain why, but the explanation is long and there is work to do, so I'll have to get back to you on this later tonight...

I'm having the same conflict as @Shit Snacks. Zion on pre-order, but debating getting a firewood. I think I'm going to get the FW. Going from having 0 good portables to 2 good portables in a short time is a GOOD problem to have. Also, this just solidified it for me, the only review I need:

Cold to start isn't as quick, yeah the Firewood can hit as hard as a desktop. I think of it as my Wooden Versa replacement or E-Hammer since I haven't used any of those devices for heavy hits anymore. Its not just my Nova, and grassHoppers, I don't even need to use my UD at home anymore. I am really trying not to get any more vapes because if battery bank works (ordered one so I will give feedback as soon as it arrives), I'll probably never touch my Hoppers unless I'm sharing with other people.

Larger airpath is available on the Zion but when loaded with the same amount of herb like .03g I can't imagine the Zion just delivering more vapor than ALL my other vapes. That's 35+ different vaporizers.

It doesn't need to output more, it can easily combust.

I just don't see as 5 hours, I've had the unit the longest and once before then. It never took 3+ hours to actually get it to buzz 4 times for full battery. In regards to 18650, and 350 batteries, those are the diameter of the Firewood, this thing is tiny, the Firewood have to become bigger or have bulges for those hefty batteries.

Just because it buzzes 4 times doesn't mean it has a full battery unfortunately. From completely dead I charged for like 45 min and got 4 buzzes but it only lasted one bowl before dying again.

As far as I know the only way to really know that it's charged is to wait for the light on the charger to go green.

I agree with everything you said in your last post with exception to this. I will have a chance to find out myself one day, however I imagine the Zion putting a lot of our portable vapes to shame so I won't be surprised at all to find out my Zion delivers more vapor than the Firewood V3.

@KeroZen It doesn't sound like comparing the FW2.1 to the FW3 is fair at all. I haven't used the predecessors but the vapor is fast on the FW3. First hit on a cold device will take about 5-8 seconds to start producing a faint vapor. Once you get it going, if you keep your hits close you can get instant vapor pretty much.

Currently an owner of the Cloud Evo, which I love, and the Zephyr Ion, which I like just fine for its purpose (occasional fun, change of pace for when I have friends over).

I'm really impressed by the Firewood 3 reviews, and the price point is great. But is it easily modded into waterpipe compatibility? If so, I'll pick one up for my portable daily driver. If it isn't, I'll wait until the GH or Zion is readily available.

Has anyone found a good position for the screen at the bottom? Mine refuses to stay put and it's been driving me insane. No matter how I shape it it slides up and moves around after I take one hit.
