@Deano I was very interested in the Crafty not too long ago, but I do get the impression its for someone that likes to spend a lot of money on vapes and lots of money of flower. And the Arizer Air is the opposite. Under $200 for this quality, size and performance is pretty good. I don't mind spending a lot on a vape, but I do NOT like wasting flower.

I came close to biting the bullet on the Crafty, but I'm glad I didn't. The Arizer Air and E-nano are about the best combo for flower efficiency and taste and its almost all convection.

I love to write, organize info, get way way into stuff, so it is something I'd enjoy doing. More a quick query on batteries again. I did read somewhere that first time you charge a battery, to fully charge. My charger cuts off at 4.2v for battery longevity so would i be better off doing 1st charge through the unit? Thanks in advance

Hey, guys! Long time FC lurker, first time poster.

I've been looking to get a new portable vape. I was considering the Crafty for a while, but after reading about battery issues and faulty units, I think I'm going to go with an Air instead. The cool design, claims of excellent efficiency with herb, and replaceable batteries won me over.

Has anyone had success charging the Air with the car charging cable (http://www.puffitup.com/Arizer-Air-Car-Charger-p/arz.air-102_car.htm) by plugging it into a USB battery pack or solar charger? If so, how does the charging time compare to plugging the unit into the wall or using the external battery charger?

It can sometimes be hard to get hold of the exact USB cable for charging the Air. I personally bought a PSP charging cable and had to remove a tiny bit of plastic (took 30 seconds), however @OF has a link to a cable that works without modification.

I personally charge mine from a high powered (2 amp max) portable battery pack on a regular basis, and have also charged from a car USB port thing before. Both very occasionally cause the lights to go red on the Air, but if I unplug and re plug then it charges normal again. I would only really charge from a decent branded portable power pack or car plug, some of the Chinese electronics have no protection inside and could damage your device. I personally use Anker products as they are of a really high quality, and reasonable price.

I have not actually timed the device charging when using either of those methods, however both the power pack and car plug are rated for 2 amps, higher than the Air charger is capable of so I presumed they both charge the Air at full speed.

You can use 'any old USB' for charging. Air can 'make use of' up to one Amp for charging. Ports (or adapters) with ratings over 1 Amp will not charge faster, those with less (like many laptops) will still charge fine, just slower.

I've got some videos made that will be posted later... unfortunately my AA is going back for a refund, and i'll be purchasing a second Solo. I guess the swappable battery advantage just doesn't benefit me enough, and I find that the Solo outperforms the AA every time I tested it. I did both .05g and .1g tests of the same strain, both Solo and AA at max temp (heat soaked from cold + 30sec) and although fairly close, I think the Solo vids will show the obvious. Obviously the Air is designed more for ultra portability, as with gong use the Solo clearly shines.

I find the AA similar to the S&B Crafty and the Solo like the Mighty. I much prefer the Mighty over the Crafty for the same reasons....i'm a power vaporist and require that second battery for juice!

AA still is one hell of a portable but Solo is definitely has its place!

I agree, the advantages of Air are pretty subjective. Given only one or the other I'd keep Solo, but still enjoy Air from time to time.

Have you considered Imag+? Smaller than Air (although I suspect a bit heavier, seems to be Copper?), faster to heat by a fair bit and seriously blows the doors off either Solo or Air when it comes to clouds. Taste (another subjective minefield) is still OK I think. $55 from PIU........

Looking forward to the videos, thanks for doing them.

I don't understand why the air and solo cables aren't interchangeable. They look the same. I've end up putting the air cable away and mainly use the LUC battery charger.

As for stems, I don't have one of Ed's for the air but I love the ones I do have including the solo. My favorite stem for the air is glass and it cuts the heat well. I keep it in the container it came in. It's the PVHES High Efficiency Vortex Stem.

Because they are two different voltages. Solo is 12 VDC charging two batteries to 8.4 Volts, Air uses 5 VDC to charge one to 4.2 Volts. While they are the same diameter, Air is a bit longer. Should you screw up and use the Solo charger and manage to make contact in Air it will destroy the Air. Using the Air charger on Solo is safe enough, it just doesn't do anything.

Don't confuse the chargers.

I'm not sure how different woods taste but can also confirm there is a different taste to glass. This certainly isn't a negative. Love my Ed's Purpleheart. Makes an excellent wong to due to high efficiency notches, and can pack a bigger load. Also seem to get more visible vapor with it over the stock. I put this down to some sort of "thermo heat metal radiation thingy", but could be all in my head due to a sad infatuation with it. Rarely gets used as I don't tend to use the AA with a bubbler that often. I find the stubby black glass from vapefiend more stealthy for in public, but good to keep a woody for back up.
There is a UK manufacturer now. look the same and same choice of woods. Only difference is the pin apparently (and the logo obviously).

Cool, I've been checking out some of the TNT wooden stems, and they are kind peaking my interest. I have never used a wooden stem before, could you kinda tell me the pros and cons of using a wood stem compared to the regular glass ones?

could you compare the different dome screen variations (dome style, flattened dome, basket style) regarding capacity, taste and clouds (maybe also session time you got out of the same amount of material /w different styles)?
I'd love to learn more about these different methods and what the pros/cons are/can be.

Another thought was vaping "hamster" or "Sherlock" style - device up, mp down (and Sherlock like a pipe). Read somewhere in the solo thread about it and adding convection..?

will do, but one thing I've noticed about the air... downside up, perfectly horizontal, upside down, not really much difference. If you wait a a few seconds between hits, the heat transfers to the stem no matter what. You can also play air drums between hits, and get same results. Not many stem type vapes can do that.

This video will probably shot tomorrow, when I'm home along (wife would think I'm crazy), I'll start writing my outline today.... any more suggestions???

I had a Solo, gotta say, I get bigger clouds, better sessions, more medicated, by sipping my Air than anything else (including Solo and many other quite pricey products). The hits I can generate are sometimes "too big"... I HAVE TO SIP. But then again, the AA is the only vape I've truly mastered - battery power is not an issue when sipping through that plastic stem, weed dry, ground just right. I can kill an entire session on blue (but sometimes in a rush I bump temps). Solo does heat up (the first time) faster. I'll give you that. With the AA, you gotta wait two full minutes, then let the stem sit another 30 seconds or so before that first super sweet sip, for absolute best results.

Gonna lie down, read a book, sip my Air lazily, as it lays on my chest. [.07 to heaven]

Regarding chargers, I bought a Luc V4. It can charge 4 batteries at a time and has a car charging option.

With this charger you can do much more than you can with a car charger alone or a home charger alone.

I have barely touched my Solo since I got the external charger.

Recap, a Luc V4 with a car adapter makes a car charger unnecessary, in my opinion.

Just noticed that Amazon seems to have a @2014 model nitecore charger at lower prices than I remember when researching chargers. Anyone on the fence about an external charger may want to check Amazon.

Yeah, I got a nitecore i4 2014 model. It also has the car adapter included.
When there's only the need to charge your air and not additional spares at once, I'd definitely go for a generic USB charger plus PSP cable (@OF mentioned it above), as convenient as that, no bulky charger.
