Discontinued Zion vaporizer

Some ideas for the faq/manual:
Battery usage - I am a total 18650 noob as I believe some others are as well. I know there have been links and suggestions in this thread, but a simple guide would be helpful. Things like:
  • How low to allow the charge to get
  • How high to charge to each time
  • Should batteries be paired
  • Should batteries stay in the zion between sessions
  • Should batteries have positions swapped between sessions
  • If possible, average battery usage. Since I know there are many variables, maybe you could use a basic amount (eg. .1g) and average how many .1g bowls can be vaped on two batteries averaged out over numerous zion users.
  • Other ideas?
Dimensions would be helpful for people determining if it will fit a certain glass piece of theirs. I know there was a pdf earlier in the thread, but I think that isn't final.

Information about the US joints required for adapters. It would be frustrating for a person not to know this and have the wrong adapter paid and waiting for their zion.

If possible, simple directions on how to find your own sweet spot when you first get the zion.

Nice ones fluff!

Many of your suggestions are already planned to be part of the instructions that will come with the Zion, good to have em in the FAQ too

Regarding battery life I think it would be 10+ bowls at .1g, and 5+ bowls at .3g depending on other useage variables ofcourse. And we'll see for production units if anything has changed, unlikely though... Do you think that'd be a good way to do it? That way people may even get more than what it says, a nice surprise

Thanks for the info. Your suggestion regarding battery life is exactly what I was looking for. I think that way people can get a rough estimate and then maybe a little disclaimer that there will be multiple factors that can slightly alter how many bowls an individual get.

Edit: I would also maybe add where on the dial you were for those 10 bowls. Thoughts?

Another item to consider: A note or two on batter safety.

Specifically, consider including a note that batteries should be stored in a case or individual sleeves when not in use, never kept unshielded in someone's pocket or whatever where it can short if coming into contact with keys or other metal objects.

@TheDudeNextDoor. That would have never crossed my mind. Having used 18650's for a while now it's just become second nature to store them properly. I think it was mentioned that they would be supplied in a case. Anything on proper safety and storage is worth mentioning.

I imagine many who buy the Zion will not have prior experience with 18650s, and I can just so easily see someone putting some loose batteries in their pocket for later in the day without knowing what could happen if those batteries shift just right or come in contact with anything else that might be in that pocket.

Can confirm, shameful as it is and based on much "weaker" MFLB batteries, that this is a risk. Ouch!

I'm out and about today, actually going to spend the afternoon at Canada Wonderland's Halloween Haunt and I'm finding myself in lust for the Zion.

I sold my air to justify purchasing the Zion while my torch has kicked the bucket for my lotus.

So I'll smoke this joint and wait.:bang::borg:

After thinking about it for two days, I'm really bummed about this recent change that prevents using the ELB,s and EQ screens. I appreciate the device is working better then before, but one of the big attractions to the Zion is its versatility, and it just lost some of that versatility. One concern I have with using the 18mm connector is load size and the elb/eq would have helped with smaller loads. I'm sure this is not a major change to most people, and I guess it's my own fault for buying things when I don't even have a Zion yet, but i have now spent $40 on screens that are useless, and lost a part of the usage that was fairly important to me. A bit of a frustrating week in Zion land.

Which costs more. I wouldn't be saying anything if the elb/eq's hadn't been brought up numerous times in this thread, and part of what sold me on the Zion. I now have four glass connectors, plus the two stock RBT stems (and 4 eq's and 4 elb's) that I would have to cut down. I'm not mad, but I have already invested well over $100 in add-ons for the Zion, and now it seems that half of that was waisted. Just frustrated and venting.

That's why I suggested a labor exchange type of deal. I am sure you have or could make something for someone who can cut the glass for you.

I used my eq screen with the TOD and hated it.I'm not sure why but the flavor felt robbed and the heat transfer acted a lot different then the stock Zion screen. I was wondering if that thick metal lip and metal ring in the bottom of the eq screen had something to do with the difference. As a matter of fact I use my Zion screens when I use my eq now. Sorry I know that does absolutely nothing for you're predicament @Bongologist. I'm not sure that any one seen this turn of events coming, including RBT.

Thanks @HD Springer I'm really just venting. I knew when I bought these screens I might not like them, though I was really looking forward to the elb's, it's my fault for buying before I had the Zion. Part of using a ubiquitous joint like 18mm was being able to use many things easily with the Zion, and the elb's seemed like such a great fit though.

Just to be clear, is it the screen or the glass as well that interferes? Just like Springer, I had immediately thought about using Zion screens in my EQ parts. Would the use of Zion screens allow EQ glass to work or are the dimensions of the glass what makes it a bad idea to use on a Zion?

Yeah it's unfortunate, but always a risk buying accessories in advance I suppose... I'm sure you could sell em in the classifieds if you need too though

Truly the stock Zion screens are fantastic, and can do any load in a variety of ways, so fear not for versatility, it is still present in all the other wonderful variables of the Zion.

imo allowing them makes more complications and potential for issues, best to stick with stock bc it works so well already (even better than elb and EQ screen for some of us). And remember, it was a beta tester discovery, never an intended feature from RBT, more of a happy coincidence.

We'll see what @pakalolo has to say about the new design when he gets some quality time with unit #1...

@Edric al-Fali correct, just those metal screens, bc now the female joint in Zion ends flush with the heater screen (before there was room for metal overhang). A Zion screen will absolutely fit in an EQ part, the right angle elbow whip adapter works well with its US size 18mm joint, and Zion screens fit in many ISO male to male adapters as well, they are more versatile than EQ screens or ELBs really

Since I've pre-ordered my Zion I grabbed my EQ back from my brother, just to get a little more familiar with the ground glass and I've just been craving something different while I'm waiting. I went back to the EQ basket screen and I find them ever more so annoying (coming from my nano) because they do not vape evenly whatsoever and stirring them is not fun. So I pondered how I could make my own basket screens. So I smashed a (I think 1'' diameter) screen in between two ti-nails I had, one male one female, and stuck the basket in (basket sides facing down in this picture so the herb sits on the flat side). The EQ screen is just there to keep the herb from falling out, I don't really need it. So what @HDSpringer says is spot on, you get way more flavour and are actually able to stir without making a mess. I assume this is going to be fairly simmilar with the Zion with all the power it's been said to have, I doubt screen depth will be a huge deal, just load how ever much you want. Especially since that screen is closer, we'll get more radiative heat. It be nice to get a dimension of the female glass to the screen that way we can know if we need a new adapter.

Sorry for the change in direction on the screens. We will be supplying free screens to anyone that purchased screens that will no longer work in the Zion. We have gone out of our way to make changes to improve the Zion: glueless heater screen, added clearance for glass attachment, cap, stir stick, stash area, wider battery compartment to accept batteries with tape, thumb holes for easy cover and battery removal, large diameter stir stick hole to accept a wooden skewer... Etc. Keep in Mind we still are on the candidate thread which should indicate it is still in flux. Pak warned me that people will use the Zion as they please which I now understand. However, I will only warranty the device against defects in workmanship that prevent the unit from being used as intended. If people feel the need to tape down the button, throw in a protruding screen and cantilever mount it to a water pipe there isn't much I can do about that. Since the Beta Team isn't privy to the latest information please use our web site for official correspondence. I will no longer be posting any content on this thread but will drop links to things as they are updated on our web page.

Again, sorry for the confusion. Now that the initial production units are starting to ship we will turn our focus to the website and customer feedback.

Thanks again for everyone patience in this critical time in our companies development!

What do you mean by cantilever mount to a water pipe?

Bummer you won't be posting here anymore.
