Discontinued Zion vaporizer

So how often do you need to change screens with the Zion? And how many come with it? Just want to figure out how many to add to my order when it's time... And any word on what stems will come with the purchase?

Not very often, they are course enough that they don't clog easily at all, so you can go a long time without cleaning at all. Even then they can be cleaned in seconds using just a dampened iso qtip without even removing the screen from the stem.

They can also be easily soaked in iso as can the stem for a more thorough cleaning, I also wouldn't want to torch them, personally I prefer silver steel vs black @VegNVape ;)

And yeah 4 screens total will be included, two in the herb chamber, two in the two included glass stems. If you order an additional third stem, that should come with its own screen as well (just guessing on this one) and we don't yet know if you can choose your second stem or not, initial plan was an extra long stem to join standard medium, but maybe you will get a choice with shipping confirmation...

@RastaBuddhaTao this has to be a FAQ - "What's included with my Zion purchase?"

Also maybe a "How do I clean screens and stems?" one like I answered above as well?

While talking about screens I have some VXH easy load bowls I assume you could use these in the Zion, would make it super easy, quick and a clean way to use Zion either dry or thru a pipe?

Yes, they've been discussed here many times, as have Arizer EQ screens, but I personally don't like the metal over hangs, I like a glass rim so Zion screens are best imo. ELB offers the capsule and second screen though, a nice feature but not super necessary here ofcourse

Also, I am horrified that you burn your screens. I do that with screens used for smoking, but not for vaporizer screens.

Hey man :) Why are you horrified? I am personally horrified that you use screens for smoking! I do not smoke, however, a clean burning butane torch quickly & easily cleans my screens with minimal fuss.

And personally, I have found that I like to clean my Zion screen on pretty much a daily basis, as I do find that my preference of a finer grind will cause clogging more quickly than that of my coarser grinding brethren.

I also wouldn't want to torch them, personally I prefer silver steel vs black @VegNVape
What's wrong with a black screen? Other than your colour preference do you have any other reason not to recommend extreme heat cleaning with a butane torch?

It is soooooooo simple - instant cleaning with no ISO soaking (you can quickly ISO rinse after after torching if you wish) or scrubbing required.

It really does make Zion maintenance completely hassle free for me.

Is there something I am missing? (no smart answers please! :p)

That is an older drawing from before RBT 'went rogue' and cheated down some walk thicknesses behind my back. It's pretty close, but she's actually a little slimmer in both footprint dimensions in the initial production version. I believe it's 2.25" square now. Subject to change of course... :)

And I LOVE the Arizer EQ screens or dome screens. They are perfect for my water use, putting one in my M2Ms. Almost exactly a .1g load and simple to use and clean. The metal ring does lengthen the M2M slightly, but not enough to interfere with seal or anything. This is how I use Venus 80 or 90% of the time. They will only fit in a US joint, btw, so if you are using an ISO joint the EQ screens won't work well.

I usually ISO my screens but I will torch them if I am in a hurry. The only problem with torching for me is some taste, but you can get around that if you are through enough making sure there is no ash.

Just a thought for the FAQ,s
What size glass do I need?
Having looked online there are a few sizes appearing. If you have no idea what US STD or Euro Iso are it is a bit confusing. You may be new to glass and be clueless as I was when I started on the Zion Train. I've seen three different sizes so far for both diameter and length. Be a shame for future customers to end up with a piece of glass that they couldn't use. Especially if it was custom made.

I agree. Hows this for an explanation...

Zion is a stem based vape, meaning that the bowl is actually created by putting a screen in the glass stem/mouthpiece itself. Adjusting the depth of the screen adjusts the bowl size.

The joint on the stem is a standard 18mm US male joint. That connects to the Zion in a standard US 18mm female joint. There is a difference between a US joint and the other common kind, the ISO joint which conforms to an international ISO standard. The US standard joint is 22mm deep and the ISO standard is 26mm deep. The depth of the joint is the only difference. Because the female joint in the Zion terminates at the screen, the depth of the male joint matters, and should be the US depth of 22mm. The ISO joint will stick out a little and in many cases not make a good seal, so using the US standard is important for most efficient use of the Zion.

Is there a specific inner diameter to the us fitting? Say whatever the inside of the evo fitting is, from the pictures of the zion stem it seems like it's the same but I could be wrong. I don't know what size the screens are or if you can just bend them to fit in. The adapter I got can't fit an elb in it, I would like to use the elbs for out of home use and the zion screens for in home use.

In my experience, no. Glass thickness determines the inner diameter and different manufacturers make the joints with varying thickness. For the hell of it, I just tried to fit an ELB into 10 different 18mm joints that are laying around in my accessories box. It only fit two of the ten, while the other seven were either too thick or too thin to fit the ELB decently.

The Arizer EQ screens seem to fit all my US joints including the chinese M2Ms, the glass MP that came with the UFO, and the adapters I had made by OGB. When Mike had tried just cutting 4mm off of an ISO joint the screens didn't fit because the cut joint still had the ID of the ISO joint. He starts with the US standard joint now and they are fine.

Edited: In the post below this RBT has recommended that this type screen not be used. The concern is the metal rim on the screen extends the length of the male joint and may damage the screen on the Zion heater on the production models.

I haven't had time to cover this with the Beta team yet but recent learning will prevent us from allowing screens that protrude past the end of the glass. The production heater screens will be flush with the end of the load chamber so any protruding screen will not allow the tapered glass seal to mate and could also dislodge the heater screen.

Another FAQ will be a warning against putting any side load on the glass joint. Also to use a raising motion rather than a prying motion when trying to release a tight fit... And a warning to not leave the stem in and knock it off the night stand :)

I think a picture of the Zion and what comes with it with a list of things would help. Pretty simple, Zion, stir stick, stash cap, medium stem, long stem, five screens, e-cig stainless wick material. We will be putting packages together with batteries, chargers and extras in order to offer reduced cost / free stuff to our customers.

Keep the FAQ, manual, accessory ideas flowing!

Ah sounds good to me, I like a flush heater screen with the end of the ground joint, no more room for an crumbs to get trapped under the rim Firefly style... And we know i prefer Zion screens anyway, though some like @cybrguy may be disappointed by this development I welcome it with open arms

@VegNVape yeah just color really, maybe slightly taste if at all. I don't like the black streaks on some of my Lily screens from accidental combustion, but maybe I should practice torch cleaning on those ones in particular to test, then they'll just be all black anyway and i can see how i like it;)

Yeah I was hoping to be able to use the elbs for ease of use on the go. I wonder if a new 18 mm spec could be made for this at 20mm length to allow the 2mm for an elb to fit. Wish I could cut glass

Edit- However this change making the glass contact the heater screen is probably for the better function wise and I'm all for that, just like to have options sometimes ya know.
