The Working Title Convection Portable

Hello FC Community,

For the past few months I have been working on a project in my free time, trying to create a portable vaporizer that operates by “true convection”. This has been a passion of mine and my primary intention is for personal use. However, if I do succeed at producing a “100% convection style portable vaporizer”, then the entrepreneur in me says “let’s see if anyone would want to buy one”. At this time I am very close to success, and for that reason I am submitting this post on FC; what better place to air out an idea in this bustling industry? So, below I have listed some of the goals I have been striving towards. It is your input, (The FC Community) that will make me decide whether or not to pursue a commercial application of my pet project. Your responses will be greatly appreciated and respected.

1. Performance - vapor production and battery life

2. Versatility - work with herbs and concentrates

3. Flavor - nothing but the finest flavor

Things I am not concerned with:

1. Stealth - not something designed to be hidden or fit in your watch pocket

My goal is to create a battery operated portable that will compete with any desktop-plug-in vaporizer available today.

Stay tuned for drawings, renderings, pictures and videos.

For now I will be calling it the “Convection Portable” which is a working title of course.

Thanks,

Convection Portable

Good luck :-)

I like your priorities, they jibe with mine pretty good!

What are your feelings re' water tools?

My personal search is for a device matching your description (so far) that is small enough to comfortably sit atop a small/medium sized bubbler, but can be used without if desired.

I know there are a few emergent vapes which should meet these criteria, but another choice couldn't hurt :-D

So far I'm really loving what I'm hearing. Your top priorities are all big on my list as well. I'm not overly concerned with stealth because I am predominantly a home user.

However, one feature that is important for me is ease of pairing with water. I prefer not to have to use an adapter but if I do need one my boy @Ratchett has always made it happen.

If make a switch or something on it which could switch it from using the batteries as power to being a plug in. Not sure if taking suggestions, but thats one thing I'd personally like a lot. Lot of vapes have pass through and what not, but usually at a price, like damaging or shortening the life of the battery. So yea something that I can take around then when near an outlet, plug in and completely negate the batteries be awesome. Also if made from wood be cool because then got a hella lot of exotic woods to work with, more customization kinda, and lot more pleasing to the eye in my opinion

i've been working on this a bit myself ... as long as the batteries can supply about 25 watts or more (at least 10 amp current output), so that air flow doesn't drop the heater temperature, it will work as well as the best desktop ... and a temperature display is very useful ... and i like an only-glass air path.

Big desktops have a large thermal mass that allow for less restrictive hits. There is a reason desktops still exists, you can't cheat a large thermal mass.

So if your vape can fill your lungs with dense vapor in 3-5 second I'd say it can compete with a desktop.

It will work out of the box with water tools. An adapter will only be required for a water tools that do NOT have a 18.8mm or 14mm female glass joint.

If make a switch or something on it which could switch it from using the batteries as power to being a plug in.

I was thinking the same thing and this feature is already included in my initial design.

Funny that you mentioned this, the prototype I am currently building is made out of wood. Although, I am not sure if it is something that could be brought to mass production and remain cost effective. Perhaps there could be a custom option for those who are interested.

So if your vape can fill your lungs with dense vapor in 3-5 second I'd say it can compete with a desktop.

That is the goal!

Not sure if taking suggestions

That is what I am here for :)

Many vapes & accessories. Always happy to help
Welcome to the gauntlet. I like your plans and priorities. I'd love to see steplessly variable temp control, ideally with a temp display - to be able to vape different material at its respective optimum temp. :)

Good luck!!!

If I end up producing this commercially, a digital display will definitely be one of the features. The prototype that I am building now will not have a digital display but it will serve well to test my theory. Once I prove my theory the next prototype build will have a wide range of temperature control.

Not bothered about drawings and renderings. Myself I like fotos and videos.

It can be cost effective if you let a machine do the majority of the work. Program it once and you get as many near identical clones as you want. Looking back at who has posted here you will find a few of them are beta testing and/or waiting for a wooden bodied convection 'mobile desktop' which has been caressed by a 5-axis VMC Haas.
The one thing your first post did not do was to tell FC'ers that you were going to conquer the market with a harder, faster, smaller, stronger vape the likes no one has seen before.
Your use of the word 'if' shows that you aren't trying to pull the wool over any bodies eyes.
Use FC to your advantage there are a lot of experienced people here who would be only too happy to help you out. After all 'if' it's a success they benefit as well.
Good luck
