It has to be tapped down to a certain extent though right? Otherwise it's going to fall into the heating element if used rightside up. If I load only a little.. it produces nothing at all.. then when I move the basket up.. It gets burnt. What I really need is a pic of the proper distance the herb needs to be from the heating element. Again, this reminds me of the Eazy Vape. The Epick has to be wrong.. maybe thats why the baskets came pre installed a few MM less than where that notch shows on the Epick.

If the temp needs to be adjusted what would you recommend. I mean I had to squeeze every inch of air in and out of my lungs just to get anything out of my bong. Right now I just want to concentrate on getting the stem use down right first.

I thought I would never smell that burnt popcorn smell after that Easy Vape... I guess I was wrong. Maybe I really do prefer.. a set it forget it type of vape as opposed to herb efficiency after all? I dunno.. only time will tell. I'm currently trying to skim over every page of this thread to find answers but my company will be here soon so tonight is kinda a wrap.
Dude, just go back to the way you liked it the first time, and tweak things (distance, grind, pack, power) from that baseline to perfect it. Forget about notches and stuff... the stems haven't exactly been consistent over time.

I use the Enano dry right side up. It's meant to be used that way. I use it in a natural way when taking a draw. It might be at some what of an angel. I never worry about cannabis falling into the oven. Once the cannabis is heated it kinda sticks together.

Maybe you are overthinking this process. You might be making it harder than it needs to be.

EDIT
I don't use the e-pic or measure my cannabis, I go by feel. If I overfill I take some out. I can tell if I overfill because I have too tight of a draw.

Here is what I just tapped out and only gave 2 visible hits.. the 2nd one was pretty thin and barely visible Is this light color normal? You can clearly see in the pics how much material I used here. The basket is right where the notch is on the Epick.. exactly.. and so is the herb to heater distance. It seems it's nearly touching the heater or about 1 to 2mm from it.

Now that everyone knows how much I'm using and the basket and herb level are near exact to what the e pick shows. Any ideas on what it could be? should I not tap it down once with my pen? I tried that and the draw improved but not by much.

I'm used to taking slow and steady 8 to 10 second draws... I've tried both ways.

The first pic is what I just did right now..
The second pic was my very first bowl.. that I got toasted off and got 4 hits out of it... not to mention got more medicated in such a short timeframe off of vapor than I ever have. Remember the first pic is supposedly spent I can't get any more vapor out of it at 6.5 and 7.5 and it's damn near sitting on the heating element... I'll find out when I try to revape it later.

Yes I got a nice buzz right now.. but this is sitting right at the heating element and no visible vapor. As I said I am saving all this abv to retry again in the nano and if need be.. re vaped in the Plenty.

Anyhow, in case I can't make it back on before the end of the weekend.. I hope everyone here has a nice weekend and all that good stuff!

@Bravesst showed a good picture of the epic tool. I copied this from his post.

I think they thought of all that with this pic

For me, I just go by the distance to herb. As long as you fill to that point you will find the best results. I think everyone needs to play with their screen depth to find what suits them. We all have a different tolerance so the epic tool isn't the greatest method but good for starters. If you do change the distance to herb then you can play with the temperatures but you're just going into dangerous territory with that.

Your screen is upside down.......but that's not really the cause of your problems.....
That's the standard way to install the screen, or at least how the screen comes installed in standard stems.

@Socks And Sandals:
Only change one variable at a time, this helps with consistency and allows you to see what effect each variable has.

I would suggest using the stock screen distance for now until dialing everything else in.

Try temp 6.5 and use half as much herb as you used in both pictures. If the ABV isn't dark enough bump it up to 6.8 but don't go up to 7.5 for now. You need a really fast draw speed at that temp to avoid charring.

7.5 would burn on my nano, 7 can char but where I'm usually at 6.5 for bong without water and 6.75 with water. They vary a bit and power output of each homes AC outlets differ. But that seems to be the sweet spot I guess.

@Socks And Sandals I adjust the screen according to how much herb I'm using. I (lightly) tamp it so it's half an inch from the lip of the gong. This leaves a couple of mm distance from the heater.

My screen is flipped so the basket points down and the bottom of the screen creates a shelf for the herb (most of my recent gongs have come that way too).

Heat is 6.5 - 6.75 usually.

I too think your using too much weed if it feels restricted (and from your pics if the basket is fitted like a cup). My gong load would look similar to your pic but in reality just about half the amount you're using as mine would be resting on top of the screen (not continuing down into it). But tbh I tend to get two good hits and maybe a wispy third. But they are good/long hits though...

Same here, i think your overloading it too.
I had similar problems at first (few weeks), too much draw resistance, charring of material, not much vapor.. Funny that i too started out great at first, and then sort of got lost there ;)

It has been said here before that vapor quality is also strain dependant, and that sometimes litte visible vapor can get you medicated the same as a big cloud, so try different strains too, if you can.
Last week i found some old Holy Grail, not so frosty and i remember it wouldn't do anything in my Herborizer, so i just put it in my Nano for laughs, but it got me medicated perfectly, despite the not-so-big cloud.

Regardless of strain, in my Nano anything will charr above 6.5, with a bowl packed too tight i get charred material under that temp.
So nowadays i just use the gong as a straw, suck up a little, and tamper it really slightly with the herb distance thing on the Epick to get an even surface, and it really works well for me.
And i have the screen a few mm below default

Good luck, and have fun with the learning curve!

For best performance let the nano preheat for atleast 30 minutes but ideally an hour. Mine stays on unless I'm going out. When I get back I turn it on imedietly.

Remember, this really isn't magic, it's a basic physics principle.

The ENano is a reliable, constant, steady source of heat. The heat is variable by using the dial, but also, the effects of the heat are varied with distance to herb, speed of airflow, etc.

Try longer, softer pulls on it, rather than "puffing" like some may with a combustion session. Adjust the three main variables (heat, distance, air speed) to dial in your personal sweet spot. Every person's experience WILL vary, ... it must ... but, keeping in mind that the whole point of any vaporizer is just getting a solid, reliable source of usable heat for your purpose... and the heat will vaporize your goodies, once you get practiced with it.

Basket screens, glass screens, SS substrates, ... pffft. it's all just to keep your goodies in place, and to help keep debris out of your mouth/lungs/bubbler. Use whichever you want, However you want, and try not to imbue them with "magic" either. :)

I got my nano right where I wanted it the first day I got it with the Caligula 2-hit method (link). Then again, it's not my first vape, which was a pre-Q Extreme and took me a while to figure out. The adjustable screen adds another layer of control, which is another layer of complication. Totally worth it for efficiency (and health) over combustion.

Keep trying! Think back to high school science class, you're applying hot air to something in an attempt to evenly elevate it to a specific temperature range. Smoking is a lot easier, but anyone who's frustrated with vaping because it's "too hard", should take a step back, think about what they're doing, read up / ask someone.

Actually, to be honest, smoking well is a skill in itself; I used to have a spoon with a bowl that was my preferred shape (narrow, but shallow), corner each hit in such a delicate way that I got several green hits, and use a nail tamp to extinguish the cherry between hits. It was quite a bit more efficient than any other method I had, including a one-hitter. That was a technique which also took time to develop.

Using one of my Nanos as a aroma therapy device today with some essential oils and a little water. I need to sweeten the air I am making some cannabis oil with the Magic Butter Maker - there's a noticeable smell even though it's on the porch. 3 oz of Hindu Kush shake - a very good price. I hope the neighbors can't smell it. It's a rainy day, it might dampen the smell - I hope. I have a nice pear and vanilla sugar aroma flowing through air.

EDIT
I fix my screen the way I want it and keep it that way usually. Also cleaning the stems are very easy using the soaking method for a couple days.

Hurrrrraaaay it's the weekend - Nano On friends.

Carol - I hope you'll entertain the thought of opening a thread and telling us more about it! I've been thinking of buying one of those machines and would love to hear about your experience with it.

I am following a recipe from @MrNaturalAZ from the Magical Butter Maker Thread here on FC. I will update how everything turns out there. I did deviate a bit from what he did and how much material I used.

Now back to the Nano - medicating with some CandyLand it's a great strain especially with our fav log vape. A blustery day here in the Pacific NW. We are getting remnants from the Hurricane coming from the other side of the world.

@CarolKing or anyone else.. can you educate a newbie on aroma therapy oils/usage? I've been debating getting an aroma therapy cup from epic, but know nothing about the oils. Are they something I can just order on Amazon? Are there recommended brands? Do you run them till they evaporate?

I run my nano for hours at a time and would like to take use of the heat when I'm not enjoying a session.

I get my essential oils from amazon or a local health food store. I do about 5-7 drops of cedar, lavendar, tea tree or another oil. And I add about twice as much coconut oil. Turn my nano to 9 and let it go until the scent is gone. A few hours. There will still be scentless oil left in the cup. I just discard that.

I usually add a little water to my essential oils, the water evaporates from the heat then I just add more water. It just takes a teaspoon. I get my essential oils at a local shop. I have been using the Solo aroma therapy cup, it doesn't fit that well.

I will be buying a couple cups from Epic next time I order something. I haven't ordered anything in a while. The stems hold up so well, they can take a tumble.

I prefer adding beeswax to my aromatherapy cup so when things cool down there's no mess!

Yesterday the Comcast repair tech knocked into my Nano with the Piranha plant full of oil :o

Luckily he didn't knock it completely over, but oil was ALL over my nano. Inside and out! :bang: Damn was I pissed, he didn't even realize it.

Later I had to crank my Nano up to 10 and watch nasty smoke billow out of the heating element for several hours....... 24 hours later it seems like there's only a faint trace of smell left, and no taste in the vapor, phew!

Still thinking about sending my Nano in for service. After 18 months of heavy use, I think it's time for a little TLC. How's the search for help @ACE OF VAPE Have you been able to find someone to help manage the workload?
