I've bit the bullet, swallowed some bile and ordered a pack of glass spacer direct with Da Vinci
The way I see it you just bought more holes to clean. A waste of money IMO.

Has anyone drilled the holes out and used a gauze?
The ends need to be ground off since glass can't be drilled out. If you want to use a ss screen over the chamber the glass screen part can be snapped off or simply don't use the glass down tube and just use the top straw part. The more parts you can eliminate the easier it is to use and clean. Try different methods and go with the one that works best for you.

@OF You sound like you may loose a lot of stuff?

Perhaps my social circles aren't as flamboyant as yours, how long are two glass spacers meant to last?

edit : @Hubs88 ,

This is what I'm trying to ascertain, I don' t have the skill or tools to attempt such things myself, so if they work and clean simply by soaking in ISO, for me that is a solution.

Well from time to time I lose things, and sometimes those things were loose (and fell off....) but I try not to make tight things loose without a reason.......

Not my fault, the lose and loose bit, I get confused all the time and both pass spell check. Funny language, this, but youse guys invented it.....we just pinched it off you a while back before that disagreement in the 18th century.......

Since it's common to use only one of the factory screens at a time, it's pretty easy to misplace one while using the other. I'm not alone here, a few other fools have reported not being able to find the underused one. I did get it in the ABV tin once when I reloaded without to see how that would work, but it was easy to find.

And several folks broke theirs, they're not bomb proof you know.

Otherwise they should last as long as any similar glass thing does when handled by Stoners? It's just that when replacements for key gear are 8 time zones and lots of time and money away I usually opt to 'play it safe'?

If only there was something included with the device... like a tool or something... something that had a point on it just perfect for poking out the holes... If it were me, I'd put an Ascent logo on it and make on-board storage for it. ...
I've seen just such a thing -- and managed to chip bits of glass with it. ;)
... At least two I can think of (one had her husband do it). I'm not sure they used screens ...
I didn't need a screen to control particulates. Broke buds with my fingers so product wasn't finely ground. :)

A favorite joke of mine:

Do they have a Fourth of July in England?

Yes, it comes right after the third, same as here......

We almost adopted German instead (in case you didn't know), barely missed street names that are longer than some marriages. I think that would have made a change in how the world turned out.

Now we can worry about how to spell color with the least letters.

@OF Lately I have been wanting a more consistent convection experience than what i get from my ESV. Since you have an ESV you know what a great vaporizer it can be as far as taste and clouds go. Can the Ascent provide similar results? Which do you end up using more often?

I think it's fair to say you can get similar results, at least in some cases, but the technique is very different.

I like Ascent, but it takes more fiddling to get it 'right' I think. Conduction is more limiting, therefore Ascent has to be 'in the groove' to really shine. For me, that means it needs more hot glass in the load, either glass flowers (perhaps best) or the factory spacers(s). The latter being easier for routine use for most.

I go back and forth, sometimes using both in the same period of time. Currently I'm enjoying the ESV, but the other day I dug the Ascent out again, it's calling........

Try both and decide for yourself?

I thought the Ascent was convection. I have not read much or researched any on it though. I just am not a big fan of conduction but I will do some more reading and considering. Wish I could try before I buy you know!

Yep it is, and that part plays a HUGE role in how it works. Unlike convection, the incoming air is cold, so cools the load as you hit. I measured drops of like 100F in the center, from 400F to 300F. There's a write up about it a year or so back with a couple photos showing how it was done.

That's why the glass flowers or spacers give a boost in 'clouds' with less bud, they supply extra heat in the hit, a reservoir you charge between hits.

On the other side, the ceramic is glazed. This is basically a true all glass deal. From the time cold air passes the protective grill and enters the holes in the oven bottom until your lips, nothing but glass. Glass you can easily sanitize if you want to the level you want. Keep it clean and all you can taste is the bud you put in.

I like mine, it works well, IMO conduction here is not an issue. If you insist on convection, ESV is probably your only recourse in mass marketed units? Maybe VG/Lotus if you'll go gas? You can get in line for a Grasshopper too I guess, but near as I can tell delivery still a ways off and reliability dicey? Conduction is not always evil, it works very well in vapes like VM and Solo/Air......

My glass spacers have turned up (fast delivery, packet a bit crushed in the post!).

I put a pinch (@ 0.1g) dry herb in and then plonked a spacer on top with the glass base on top of the herb so the hollow inside is facing upward towards the stem screen.

I turned it on @ 380F, however, I failed to get any clouds worth mentioning. I also seemed to get even more particles in my mouth than I usually would? I was expecting the addition of the spacer which is basically doubling the air path screening would reduce the particles?

I only loosely grind my herb in a box standard acrylic grinder (not powder as I read some use).

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, so would appreciate others advice on what they do to get the best results from the Da Vinci Ascent Glass Spacers.

How much herb do you use?
How do you grind it?
What way round do you put the spacer?
Do you use both spacers or just one?
Do you put herb in first or spacer in first?

Thanks, 1DMF.

I enjoy my Ascent when I have the time and inclination to fill and pack the bowl.

Making a puck of your material works best for me. I usually use an oil can to pack it down. I am afraid to put a spacer on the bottom and then pack, since the bowl is not flat on the bottom and the spacers are fragile.

It takes a bunch of medicine that way, but results are worth it. To keep particles out of your mouth top the load with small whisps of cotton.

If I am in pain and want to get relief fast, the Ascent is not my first choice.

Hi, sorry if this has already been answered in the thread, I bought the Ascent new in Feb 2015 from an Ebay seller (didn't realize this voided the warranty), it worked great until about 2 months ago when it started having the battery issue (won't stay charged when plugged it, nor can I use it plugged in), I turn it on when plugged in and it stays on for about 2 seconds before turning off, I bought a new charger, and the same thing happens. I contacted DaVinci and they informed me of the voided warranty (I get it, it was my oversight), they offered a $60 warranty if but only can be applied within 60 days of purchase.

My question is, am i screwed and this thing is worthless, or has anyone found a way to successfully repair this?

Thanks!

@DancingBull You've learned an expensive lesson that many of us have experienced with one vaporizer or another. Always go with an authorized vendor unless you know the company will make exchanges even if you bought through an unauthorized store.

The batteries in these portables only last so long with everyday continued use. Portables aren't meant to be a daily driver. Not sure how often you used your unit? If you enjoy using portables I suggest having a least a couple to switch off.

It looks like you are SOL. You need to invest in a couple of vaporizers it looks like. A vaporizer where you can switch out the battery if need be. There are several portables on the market, once the battery is toast there isn't much the owner can do. Some of these vaporizers use specialized batteries.

The $60 that Davinci offered within the first 60 days of purchase is a good price for peace of mind.

By the way welcome to Fuckcombustion - you've found an awesome community.

Good luck and don't go back to combusting, take care of your health.

Much thanks, I thought so, just wanted to give one more ask before I send it upstate to the varporizer farm to live with its friends.

Those that are using the Davinci glass spacers for the Ascent, try out different ways. There really isn't a right or wrong, it's whatever way works.

Several of us were given spacers to try out early on before they were available for sale. We all tried them several different ways. Some used both spacers and some used a combination of the Davinci spacer and the glass flowers that we bought off Amazon.

I like to use a small amount of cannabis in between the two spacers with the flat sides facing each other with cannabis sandwiched in the middle. Do what way works best.

That really doesn't make any sense... The load may have been too small. As I'm sure you have realized by now the more you pack the Ascent the better the vapor production is in terms of flavor, and clouds. The spacer doesn't change that it just makes it an option to use less. I would try about half a bowl fairly packed then use the spacer to pack it even more. You shouldn't get any material in the air path and you will definitely notice a difference in vapor production.

Other people here have found success sandwiching the load between the bases of both spacers, although I prefer the method I described above because it allows for a bigger load.

I disagree, he already responded to the OP. The question posed, "My question is, am i screwed and this thing is worthless, or has anyone found a way to successfully repair this?" was posed to the rest of us? Your suggestion that DV give this new found friend a special break is nice but doesn't obligate DV to respond nor remove the issue of other guys who might then think they too deserve a free Ascent. To be fair such a rule must be evenly enforced I think.

Otherwise, nobody would buy the $60 insurance up front. They would, instead, wait until their unit failed? It's a hard lesson, indeed, but there are reasons to avoid the absolute cheapest price in town and stick with PV, PIU and the dealers who support us if we have troubles.

So sorry I must have missed this on the thread! Next time, if you don't get a response please send a private message over and we'll make sure to take care of you. That being said, you can still purchase the warranty service. I believe the WARRANTY is only good for 60 days after you purchase it, not that you need to purchase it within 60 days of purchasing your unit. So you can buy the warranty service but then you must send it in within 60 days of the purchase. Make sense?

Sorry again about the oversight. Everyone is always welcome to send us private messages for immediate attention.

@Davinci_vaporizer : thanks for the advice. I guess I was being too hopeful based on how little I can put in the Solo. I increased the load as you said and it improved greatly.

I curled a screen up and placed it inside the hollow part of the spacer, but even with a screen, particles are getting through? When using my bong, the GonG U-tool and the bong down pipe is covered in leafy particles.

I have to assume the draw and air flow must be so strong on the Ascent, it's sucking particles through like a vacuum cleaner on full throttle.
