Overwhelmed with variety of concentrates

As a relatively new patient, I have fallen in love with wax. Now, I have only used shatter, and pre fill carts, but i want to stick with mainly waxes/concentrates that arent pre fill. My question is, in the so cal or similar markets, what is a good price to pay for your average run of the mill oils. Like, I dont need name brand #1 cannabis cup winning wax here, my tolerance is still relatively low. So, given the fact that most dispensaries near me dont lab test there wax/shatter unless its name brand, should I trust there wax? I mean, if I dont like it after a .03 or .04, is it proper to return it back to the dispensary for a refund or exchange?

I'm in the Central Valley rather than SoCal, but maybe my thoughts will help you somewhat. As far as prices go, they can range from $30/g to $100/g. At a guess you should be able to find something decent for $40/g or so, definitely $50/g (good nug run stuff). Often you'll be able to buy the stuff in half-grams as well. Hopefully prices and selection are a little bit better where you are. I'm in a city/county that is pretending we didn't legalize MMJ in CA so we usually don't have any storefronts but lots of delivery services.

When it comes to wax I don't worry about potency so much (it should always be very potent, especially if your tolerance is low) as the purge and taste of the product. That's the testing I would want to see when it comes to concentrates. I want the stuff to be vac purged instead of just left out for a few days. I would ask some questions about the product and how it was made. I would skip anything at really bargain prices at first, at least until you're satisfied that the product is decent. Then try the stuff and if it tastes bad or is very harsh or looks weirdly soupy then return it for sure (or try). I've heard you can test for residual solvents like butane by burning a small amount with flame to check for flares from trapped gas. It's nice if you can find a dispensary you can trust or a brand-name you like.

Hope some of that helps. Good luck.

Man, I am going to say SoCal way different. We have SO many delivery and store fronts. I can find wax from 10g-100g. Good to know about the purge and taste mattering more than potency. I know the least residuals solvents is what I am looking for in terms of safety. I think Ill stick with 25g-30g minimum in the beginning. Thanks for the help @KimDracula

look for solventless extractions. then you dont have to worry about that stuff.

not sure how much is avail where you are, but look for "rosin". its extracted with low heat and pressure. and is very fast and easy to extract so it shouldnt cost too much like other solventless oil.

you could also check out our rosin thread about extracting it yourself. if you have a press you just need to buy flowers and press them yourself.

good luck!
