The first difference that comes to mind would be the portability of a pen vape, versus the box vape that is plugged into the wall and considered a desktop vape.

There are a few herb pens out there, but most of the pen vapes are for concentrates.

The grasshopper is the only pen vape that will vaporize flowers. It's a slow process for this unit because it's still in the new phase. Many folks have preordered. If you order one not sure if it will be 6 months or a year before you receive one.

There have been some issues with the new units, it will take the company a while before production gets ramped up. Visit the Grasshopped thread and check it out.

Right now you could order the Arizer Air it's not pen style but it's small. You can vaporize flowers or sandwich wax in the middle of your herb. The Air is a great vaporizer that's well made as well as somewhat stealth. Order with Puffiup a very good online store. Good prices and great service. I guess that doesn't answer your question but @momofthegoons covered it.:2c::leaf:

Isn't the X-max Pro V2 considered a pen vape? I ask because I've been using it for a couple weeks and it does flowers pretty well. But while it's classified as a Pen it's not exactly a small form factor.

Why does that look suspiciously like a VapeFiend 'Storm Pen' ?

Good eye @1DMF ....There are folks who consider the Storm and X-Max Pro v2 kissing cousins. It's been discussed in the X-Max Pro v2 thread in portables. I did a detailed comprehensive review in that thread. I've been enjoying the unit quite a bit. IMO it's not going to replace my Solo as my daily driver..... but the functionality and form factor make it hard to put down in place of the Solo when newly filled and carrying a fresh battery.

I'm not sure what that means, but I know the VapeFiend video bangs on about how it is their own design, having spent time researching, designing and putting together their own vaperiser.

Sounds a bit fishy to me!

I'm trying very hard to avoid VAS, plus I don't think I want a plastic/rubber mouthpiece vaporiser, or one that has the oven so close to mouthpiece.

I've been put off the grashopper because of the complaints that is gets rather hot and requires the silicone mouthpiece sheath to avoid burning lips!

I've spoilt myself with an Ascent & Solo cool vapour, all glass pathway, for me nothing else will do. If I ever feel like that plasticy, hot air experience again, I can always pull out my Titan II ;)

Dry Herb pen vapes sound like a great idea, but I'm not sure anyone has cracked it quite yet!

The Storm was made by the company that makes the X-Max. It was built to Vapefiend's specs and differed from the original X-Max in several respects, including an isolated vapor path. The mouthpiece bowl interface was also changed from a plate with 5 tiny holes (that immediately clogged up), to a screen, allowing much better performance. The X-Max was then changed by the manufacturer to include some of the Storm's features, making the two very similar once again.

All of this info is in the Storm thread, so I suggest that in the future you do your homework before making any derogatory posts.

I wasn't , they weren't, they were observations, having done my homework and watched the videos. I guess something has been lost in translation, sorry if you were offended, certainly wasn't my intention. I hope you are enjoying which ever one it is you have.

"Fishy" was your description about Vapefiend's claim of researching and designing a vaporizer. He did research. He liked the X-Max. He did come up with enough functional changes for it to be a different model than the X-Max. The fact that the X-Max was then also changed to improve that design doesn't change that. They also reduced the on/off clicks from 5 to 3, so they're still clearly different models.

having done my homework
Not very well it seems.

I'm not sure what that means
Yes it's clear that you didn't know the history of these two models, and that's why your 1st two posts in the thread were out of line. If you're going to cast doubt on a manufacturer's claims, especially one who participates on the forum, please be sure to get your facts straight first.

@1DMF - One man's trash is another man's treasure. This statement works for many things like trash, treasure, stocks, garage sales and vapes :tup:

Prior to receiving an email from PuffItUp on what I perceived to be a good deal on the X-Max Pro V2..... I held the opinion that there were no pen style vapes that did a decent job on flowers. Granted when I envision a pen style vape it's not quite as large as the X-Max but.... a Great Dane and a Chihuahua differ significantly in size but both are canines. My thought process was if the X-Max doesn't meet my expectations I have the utmost confidence in the PuffItUp folks and their great customer service to make it right so what do I have to lose other than passing up a great deal. End result....I'm glad I have the X-max in my arsenal.

If you need something to put you to sleep the following is the in-depth review I did after putting the unit through it's paces. Sorry for the length of the review but these kinds of things line up with what I do for a living where the devil is in the details and old habits die hard. Besides - I really enjoy pulling things apart logically like that....

err, no it wasn't. Fishy was my description of 'Kissing Cousins'. As I stated, I don't understand what that means but it sounds fishy!

As I thought there is some 'lost in translation' going on here!

In UK 'fishy' can be a colloquialism for 'dodgy', I don't know where the USA stands on physical intimate relations with members of your family, but this side of the pond we consider that to be a bit dodgy.

Yes you can legally still marry your first cousin, but it's frowned upon!

@His_Highness said they were 'kissing cousins', I think that sounds dodgy and I stand by that statement.

Why me thinking snogging members of your family being dodgy has stepped over some forum rule I have no idea, and this is as much as I want to discuss this particular subject, because I find this recent tête-à-tête to be a bit dodgy.

I have no idea why this has upset anyone and for the third time all I can do is apologise as offence or stepping over some forum rule line was not my intention.

Again - Sorry!

I just realized that Kissing Cousins isn't an insult! Always thought it was like calling some one a *insert family member here* fucker. Always learning something new on FC

OT:

It seems to me like OP is a bit confused by the sometimes overlapping vaporizer and e-cig lingo.

A box style e-cig is something else than a box style vape. If you could clarify, @kerrydee, it would be easier to give a good answer :)

@1DMF ...
You are right, there is confusion regarding a language/slang barrier here.

When @His_Highness said "Kissing Cousins "... this is a slang term referring to manufacturers making very similar products.

It has zero to do with actual kissing family members.

And @max , being a very good Moderator was merely pointing out the fact that they are both legitimate and different products, hence should not be referred to as "fishy" or Dodgy.

Refer to Forum Rules, here..

Please pardon my use of the term 'Kissing cousins'. It seems to have caused confusion depending on what side of the pond you happen to be on. @Hashtag46&2 is spot on when describing what I meant it to mean. Severe case of selective perception on my part thinking everyone uses the term.

After seeing where all this ended up I also need to thank you folks for one of the best laughs I've had in awhile. Funny how a few miles in geography can cause such a problem. I worked with a gentleman from England many years ago who asked one of my coworkers about a 'fag'. I explained how much I dislike that term and would appreciate it if he didn't say it around me. He looked at me and said 'I didn't mean to offend anyone - just wanted a cig'.

I get in the same kind of trouble being up in years when I use terms like 'Don't look a gift horse in the mouth' with my kids. On more than one occasion they have told me I make this stuff up when I tell them these are well known sayings.

Again - sorry for the mix up and thanks for the chuckles!

I don't consider something like the Air, Pinnacle Pro or something like the Storm a vape style pen. They are too big. They would be considered more of a vape cigar, if there was a term for that. There might be. I sometimes make reference that the Air looks more like a vape cigar but I never refer to it as a vaping style pen.

Im hoping that the Grasshopper vape pen turns out to be a winner. It has yet to be determined as of yet. The backers have turned out to be the beta testers.

Yea as far as I'm concerned the GH is the only pen dry herb vape. If it doesn't pass as a regular sized pen and looks novelty then I wouldn't call it one. That's just my opinion.

No worries, glad you had such a laugh at my expense!

There was me sitting here wondering what the hell I'd done? And it got weirder the more I inquired!

Good job I don't do drugs or that could have freaked me right out! :tinfoil:

asked one of my coworkers about a 'fag'.
I've been banned from a Halo server once for saying in live chat 'hang on, just rolling a fag'.

Terminology in isolation is fine, but the minute you invite the whole world to join in, you have to realise, that some words (especially slang) mean different things in different countries, and shouldn't necessarily be taken at face value.

I just realized that Kissing Cousins isn't an insult! Always thought it was like calling some one a *insert family member here* fucker.
I see you are in Scandinavia, and have the same concept to that phrases meaning as us Brits. I'm not sure how many countries would consider that term to not be derogatory, but I can't imagine it to be many. I'm assuming His_Highness is in USA. The mind boggles how that term is not considered an insult in the USA if that's the case. Wiki and other sites describe it as being members of family who kiss, no mention of manufacturers who make similar products.

So let's summarise... Two products found to look identical, a video promoting one as their own product by someone in a disguise looking like a bank robber and a forum member describing them as 'Kissing Cousins'

How could anyone possibly think that's sounds a bit 'fishy'

Just glad you all realised I wasn't deliberately trying to put VapeFiend down in anyway, crikey apart from dealing with Da Vinci direct, all my other vape apparel (Arizer Solo, glass bong, water tool etc.) has been purchased from VapeFiend and I highly recommend them to UK vaperists.
