Discontinued The Grasshopper

I can't be the only one wondering if this most recent GH out into the wild was pre or post "necessary adjustments".... would this have been too soon to be a post....how will we know..?

Anyway I hope yours is flawless....as far as operationally..... look forward to your review....thx....:peace:

Hm. The dial is GS000637, as far as everything else there were very small scratches but nothing major or even noticable. It's very very sleek. It works great. I got a littlw worried, I over tightened the backend (where you screw the battery shut). It just reset and had to tighten the last 2 or 3 threads. It was fine. Still a lovely unit. No one has noticed smell even on 4 through water with people coming into a room as vapor is being exhaled.

Odd. I smell my GrassHopper when it's loaded and can't leave it in my car with the leather over it without my car smelling like herb.

So maybe no one cared versus not noticing
Do you use the leather sleeve? I think I remember that helps a lot. I also remember others posting cigar carrying cases that looked great and should solve that issue. My last suggestion is the gh case which is supposed to be airtight, but isn't available yet

Well, I've got a temporary solution for now, but I can smell mine when I remove it from it's container. Still it's not as stinky as a used Pax in my opinion

Well, I don't know if mine will be "air-tight", but I've got a few solutions in the works I think people will love. I'm REALLY excited to announce a few new grasshopper products in the near future :ninja:

So far I've been enjoying my Titanium GH, seems to really help clicking off the vape 1/2 way through the hit to help drain the heat out of the mouthpiece. Doing this helps me get several puffs in before the mouthpiece get's too hot (no, I am not using the included silicone mouthpiece - bare metal for me baby!)

Quite a sensation to feel the vapor production ramp up so fast. So far, this vape has been a winner in my book.

One small complaint I have is that this titanium unit's temp dial seems a bit too stiff. I found putting a little bit of downward pressure when twisting the dial seems to help

Is it the perfect vape? Naw, no vape is perfect. But this one certainly has a place in my collection. I'm really excited to get my SS hopper in "November"

Well I received my unit yesterday and I will be sending it back today for warranty repair. The automatic shutoff turned it off and it wouldn't turn back on. But the part that concerns me most is that it turned itself back on while holding it in my hand. So they're still sending out faulty units.
It was great the couple times it worked. I have to say though that the automatic shutoff is super annoying. No matter how hard I pull from it, it always shuts off. Then I have to click it twice to get it back on.

Again I suppose this could still be a pre "necessary adjustments" but still too soon to be sure..... unless a method of telling them apart is announced.... come on now GHL lets lock this shit down....

I so want to pull the trigger...but I really am waiting to see if we need to make more changes or is all of "this crap" simply about nailing down mass production pains...in other words tweaking machines and procedures.... of course we are all watching and thinking.... a nice QA tester that MUST screen each and every unit..... we all know this is painfully slow rolling method but until their build issues improve it's almost a must..... once they start seeing better results off the line then speeding up certainly makes sense....:peace:

EDIT: WTH just happened to vapviking's post... it was here a min ago... I know cause I hit the like button and now after a refresh it is gone.....was it something he said..? never-mind shipping thread I see....

The fact that it turned itself on really bothers me, especially since I'm in a non-legal state. I couldn't click it on after it died, then about 5 minutes later the lights flashed red as it heated up then blue. I never got the low battery flashes either when it initially died. Pretty messed up.

I wonder if that has anything to do with the "auto shut off" feature that doesn't turn the unit off.

So, I guess consensus now is that the 18 second timer is absolute, it does not have any kind of draw detection?

Just tested with my loaner Titanium - clicked on, waited 16 seconds, and then started inhaling for another 10+ seconds. No problems - vape did not shut off after 18 seconds. So I would say there is a draw detection system in place

Hasn't hl confirmed whether or not there is a draw detection is in place?

Because we shouldn't have to make deductions about a major feature like this :2c:

Possible the auto shut off is faulty, it shuts off when it feels like it even though the unit probably knows its getting pulled on? Certainly supposed to detect a draw and not shut off till 18 seconds after you stop.

Would you mind testing without drawing at all, and seeing if yours does shut off in 18 seconds?

I remember hearing it had draw detection, that's why I was so surprised it kept shutting off even when I was sucking on that thing like it paid me. I have a the titanium, serial #259. Although we've already learned that serial numbers have nothing to do with shipping order.

Vape is currently cold. Set to maximum temperature and clicked on with stopwatch running.
LED turned blue at around 4 seconds. Lights turned off at 20.5 seconds

Edit - Note later when I attempted to use the hopper again, I had to "double click" to turn the vape on. It seems the 18-second timeout is some kind of "standby" mode as opposed to "off" (although I'm not sure why...) - doubt there's a difference, but it should be noted

I asked my friends, 6+ different people in an enclosed room at various points. I never asked any rando's on the street I suppose :p I don't have a leather case for it either. I have noticed that right after it gets cooked there can be some lingering smell, but if I draw until the unit is cool I get nothing.

I didn't tell any of my friends (except my girlfriend since I was using her as a wall) that I was vaping in the theater, and none of them noticed even with me blowing in their direction. Maybe the Martian was really enthralling.

I've definitely hit this thing for longer than 18 seconds through waterpipes. Sometimes I'll draw and forget to turn it off and it will still be on with the 8 second draw sensor. I just pass it when that happens instead of clicking it off and back on.

It's true however that you can't really "sip it". I feel like you need to hear a small whistle for you to know that it's hitting nice.

A few things from the horse's mouth. There IS draw detection. Is it possible someone's draw isn't strong enough to be detected and they get vapor? Yes. Happens to me all the time and my sensor is not defective. It is clearly shutting off or not based on has IT detected draw in the past 18 seconds.

The auto shutoff is not "standby" as the heater is not receiving power. However since the switch is mechanical and the shut off is electronic, in effect the switch is in the on position, and therefore needs to be turned "off" to be turned back on, hence the double click.

Benefit of this is since the switch is in the "on" position but the unit is not receiving power it sporadically flashes red which serves to tell you it's in that position. It's the same red flash if the backend contacts a coin or something indicating a false connection.

This is all how it's supposed to work

Has anyone else noticed honey oil gunking up the metal mouthpiece when using the silicone mouthpiece with waterpipes? It's easy to take a qtip through but kind nasty :p

It's interesting how the clicking noise comes and goes. I didn't hear it at all yesterday but it's very audible today. I didn't use it without glass yesterday so maybe the noise of the water drowned it out. On waterpipe use - there is some dankness. I walked into my girlfriends room this morning and could tell that she had ripped it. However, that was on 4.2 or so through a waterpipe. Also, for those who have oil rigs (i think male stems?) just be aware that the glass gets really warm.

Love this thing. Used the FM50S once when I accidentally killed the battery. If you use too much it takes maybe 30 minutes to really utilize the passthrough charging. Otherwise it gets the low battery lights while charging. While I'm on the subject, I asked support about how to keep the battery most alive, and about methods of charging. Caroline asked Trevor about the battery and the reply was "it is best to keep the battery between 40-80%, though there is no easy way of knowing what that is." They also mentioned the Grasshopper will charger faster from an iPad brick than an iPhone brick, for those interested.
I mentioned I top off the battery to them, per someones suggestion here (it's nice anyway because I keep it ready for on the go). I've started getting it fully charged, then taking a hit or two on temp 1 or 2. Since I'm not using it at class, I make sure it isn't on the charger to keep it around 80%.

A while back I think I posted a link to a tamper/reamer/scooper. The reamer is the only useful bit, maybe the scooper to pack it down but otherwise moot. I use the reamer a lot though. Anyways, that tamper came with a leather case.... Which happens to fit perfectly with the Grasshopper! Lol, I didn't really want the leather case but now I have that option. Either way, on wood and carpet there have been no marks made.

This thing is a cloud machine, people are not kidding. So far the only thing I'd say I haven't figured out is when it's actually toast. I use this as a session vape it seems, but at a certain point I'm not sure how much vapor 5 should be putting off. I think I'm used to the FM's 415 setting making all my herb daaark brown. But this is all mostly golden darkish brown. It looks like a leopard pattern a little bit. It also seems that the very front is always slightly lighter than the rest of the chamber. I always draw for about 8 seconds after I turn off the unit to give the heater a break.

On packing methods, scooping with the sheathed end of the mouthpiece about the amount you want to fill the chamber, I cement roller it in. It's amazing. I did it last night in pitch black at 3 A.M. I found this morning that nothing had been spilled - so literally you can pack this blind. That said, my pinkie is slightly too big (relatively small hands as well) to fit in the chamber so a reamer is nice to pack it down. But... Does anyone know of the "Space Pens" that were sold at Staples and probably other office supply stores ages ago? I have one, and it is a perfect tamper for the chamber. So I use that sometimes if I have more than 4 friends trying to pass it around with a waterpipe. I was kind of hype when I realized it fit though. Hopefully someone here knows what I'm talking about so I don't sound like a crazy person :)

Sorry for the long post, I just have a lot to say after to years of speculating and finally ways to answer it. This thing really is great. It's so sleek... No issues with insomnia since I have gotten this baby.

That honey oil is gold, you'd be foolish to waste it.

I'm getting quite a bit, but haven't figured out a good way to collect it yet.

That's the main issue I'm having. Also, it's kind of like gunk in the oil of the silicone so it's debatable. Also it isn't very much at all. It is probably like 0.001 if even lmao.

Jojo, does your metal mouthpiece ever get oil on it? If I use it for multiple sessions, mostly on the waterpipes, it will get a little sticky when I take it off :p Nothing a shirt or hands or anything can't clean off the metal, but I'm just wondering if others have it as well.

Is this all in the mouthpiece?
Can't you soak it in ISO to re-claim it?
If the Grasshopper has no wires, you would think you would be able to take the back end off, take the battery out and soak the whole unit as long as you let it dry out completely.

I say this because a lot of my concentrate devices I just throw in a bowl of ISO to get the re-claim. No batteries, mostly coils and such but I would think it would be the same.

Has anyone asked or contacted GH about this if this is an issue?

Just my :2c: guys. I am still anxiously awaiting my grasshopper!:)

TIA!
