Surprisingly strong effects from vaporizing chamomile

I have been drinking chamomile tea for years and today I ran out of weed for the first time since I began vaporizing cannabis a year ago. I saw livestrong.com lists it as safe for vaporization, the US government says it may likely have anti-cancer effects, etc. I vaped 1 medium size dried chamomile flower with ~1 inch stem @ temperature 350F and I immediately felt a buzz, not a deep muscle relaxation just a warm buzz feeling, and I look in the mirror and my eyes are moderately bloodshot, not quite as much from cannabis but still noticeable. It also feels like there is pressure in my eyes and ears, just a little uncomfortable. Im not going to be vaping this anymore, it has a slight off feeling because of some of those less desirable effects and the buzz does not compete with cannabis IME. Though I guess I could get used to it. For the amount I used, especially for the weight used, I would dare say it is stronger than cannabis with my tolerance. I just weighed a flower of approx the same size to 0.04g. if i vaped 0.04g of cannabis the effects would be less strong I believe. Tea is not as strong obviously. The pressure is gone now after the first few minutes and the buzz remains.

Anyone have more experience with this? anyone have long term usage to report? what is the best temperature for this flower?

130 °C / 266 °F
Relieved coughs and acts as a decongestant and anti-inflammatory :)
It isn't traditionally used to 'relax' but I find that I get very tranquil and calm when I vape it :)

I'm really interested in vaporizing other herbs like chamomile for my anxiety, but I only have portable vaporizers that start at 350+°F. Do you think this is too much, or will it produce desirable effects?

You'll get a few hits out of it but I wouldn't use it for too long. It'll get harsh and stinky lol. I vape it for about 10 minutes at 110C and 140C

Interesting point. I don't really vape for more than a couple of minutes at a time, so maybe that will help if I don't want to purchase a desktop item right now.

Exactly. Just vape it for small amounts of time and then refill your vape. Chamomile is cheaper than bud anyway and you could even buy organic chamomile teabags from the supermarket and see which brand is the best for vaping haha.

I get these ones which are very strong in taste and aroma. The teas I make with it puts me right to sleep at the end of the day!

Thanks for the link! Are you located in Australia, by the way, or? I'm in California, and definitely like my medical cannabis, but this is a process, not a journey finished (into the realm of naturopathy, health, relaxation, et al). If you have any other online retail suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them. If that violates forum rules in any way (I don't remember off the top of my head), please feel free to send me a PM.

I don't work for them so I don't think it violates anything. That's just where I get the best prices (yep i'm from Australia)
I avoid american herb sites due to the postage so I may not be of much help :(

I dont feel much from it and ive tried several times over the years. I just vaped like 3 flower heads (0.15g) of chamomile and just feel a little 'different', maybe calmer, but it's hard to tell. That much weed would make me green out.

You should try vaping lemon balm. It's a bit more noticeable for me, makes me feel mellow, but I think I havent done enough to truly feel it.

I'm also curious to try Hops (found in beer, has a relaxing effect)

Chamomile isn't a substitute for cannabis, but it does have its role in Life.

It is impossible to find Indica strains where I live, and even when seeds find their way here the climate just doesn't work. Consequently, I've been smoking, ingesting and vaping only Sativas for a couple of decades.

That's not so much of problem on a day off's wake&bake, but Sativas are not conducive to getting to sleep at night. I learned years ago to either add a flower or two of chamomile to my vape chamber along with the cannabis, or to only vape the chamomile in the evening--sometimes with a bit of lavender mixed in with the chamomile. I do like the taste.

Don't look for a "high". You'll be disappointed. Don't expect it to "make" you sleep. It won't. But it does relax you and prepares you for sleep in its own way.

All that being said, I do find my consciousness altered somewhat by the chamomile. That may just be from the letting go of the day's tension, but it's definitely nice. I would not call it a "high", but it does provide a nice shift in the experience of the evening.

~Looking on line now for hop flowers.
~Years ago...YEARS ago, I bicycled across the US of A (East to West) and not wanting to carry cannabis with me I brought along Damiana. I remember laying in my hammock feeling nicely altered with it. I should order some of that along with the hops.

Stay healthy. Stay smart.

Years ago--I seem to say that a lot--I tried vaping with Celestial Seasoning teas, but found them too finely ground for any of my vapes. The whole flowers crushed, cut or course ground seem to work best.

I've been trying to vape chamomile for a few months now. Some sites say the more finely ground and dried out the better. Now I'm reading that it can be too finely ground. Another site also said to vape at 190°C, which is what I do. I've tried grinding my own, and grinds from tea. Now, I can't seem to get any vape. I've seen when cannibas is vaped, there is still a "smoke" exhaled, but cant get that with my chamomile or passion flower. Any suggestions, should I NOT be getting "smoke"?

Still figuring things out for myself, but grinding doesn't work that well for me. I'm guessing the oil is where things seem to be what is effective when vaping. I keep it at 150c in my EQ with my DDave 18mm, after a decent amount of preheating first. Can definitively taste it. Even though 190c is what most sources seem to recommend. Perhaps because that is the lowest some vapes can go? No visible vapor unless I look through the whip hose.

Been using a blend from Tazo's Calm Chamomile with some lemon balm and lemon grass. Which also works better at the low end. Any temp higher seems to harsh my throat. Plus I try to sip and not inhale. Chamomile tea is recommended at the waters lowest boiling point. But as I mentioned earlier. I'm going more for an extraction of the oils. Hope this helps.

I think the determining factor--related to grinding--is going to be the engineering of your vaporizer. I use an Herbalaire, and with that you can pack whole flowers into it with confidence that it will all get heated pretty much evenly. I wouldn't do that with my DaVinci Ascent as that works best with course ground or broken up flowers/buds--finely ground would clog the glass screen far too easily. Life is an experiment. See what works, but I always start with whole flowers as they retain their flavor much longer, and I grind or not according the specifics of the vaporizer.
For the record, as I only have Sativas available to me, I can only enjoy cannabis during the day. My nightcap is a blend of whole chamomile and lavender flowers with a bit of chopped eucalyptus leaf mixed in--just a bit. With this, one bag/balloon off of the Herbalaire is pleasantly relaxing with an elevation in mood. Two bags of this mix and I most certainly have a buzz to go along with it.
Enjoy,
HG

Hi Kiddk1, I think the chamomile in the processed teabags is pretty finely ground up. I tried vaping with that many years ago now and it was less than optimal. It always seemed to clog up whatever vape I was using be an Aromazap, a VaporGenie, an Herbalaire or my Ascent. It was so finely ground that it would pass right through the screen. And the taste wasn't like it is with the whole flowers. You can order whole flowers on line through Amazon or one of their partners.
I have just ordered some hop flowers the same way. I'm excited about that. I always try herbs singularly before trying to make a mix. Chamomile is always the largest percentage of any mix both for the "buzz" and the taste. Currently I vape a mix of chamomile, lavender, eucalyptus and passion fruit leaf at night before going to the well to bathe before bed. It's nice. Very nice, and seems to make sleep come a bit easier for these old bones. (Lavender has a really strong taste/smell. A little bit goes a long way.)
Anyhow, do a lot of research; a bit of experimentation and report back.
As primarily a weekend stoner, with an occasional weekday 420, I like vaping different herbs and I like this thread.

it's possible you're allergic to daisy-like flowers, which is why you got the pressure. I wouldn't sweat it though, with that mild of a reaction I don't think you'll die from it anytime soon. I've only drank chamomile tea so far, I've been meaning to vape it but when I decided to take action on that thought my vape broke.... so.... when my new toy gets here I'll be doing that. It helps me specifically with "hot" emotional unbalances, anger, frustration. Stuff like that. And the lady rage. Helps me significantly with that too.

Chamomile has an enzyme that renders some essential oils psychedelic . There is a huge amount of info on the subject and i won't be spamming it here but you can find answer to your question on that forum.
So most probably you are getting buzzed cause it activates the essential oils from your diet. :)
Dont be expect to be a long term thing if you do it daily, cause tolerance builds ups really fast :).
