Oregon votes in November on legalizing it!

There were all kinds of opening deals today at dispensaries. I'm still purchasing from my local medical marijuana grower but he's retiring. Next purchase from a dispensary. I wonder how to find a good one. I see them on almost every block where I live and some look like dives.

While I'm slightly envious, you have to give credit to the people in Oregon who put in the time & effort to legalize cannabis. It took a lot of work - and hopefully it's a step toward the end of national prohibition.

All of us in the midwest, the south & the east should take note, get organized & get to work so we can enjoy the same freedom.

For some just registering to vote would be a big step forward here. If you're not involved directly at the very least register to vote and talk to those close to you if your comfortable and maybe even if your not.

@little maggie, I'd suggest Leafly.com and browse their listings and reviews. They just updated their site to include recreational shops. I've been checking vendor's menus and am taking notes on the stores I want to hit next. Keep in mind the pricing is for medical users, so a few of them will have a bs markup when you physically see their menu in-house.

Like the local wine shops, pricing varies by neighborhood. Downtown and South Waterfront are expensive, South East and North East not so bad, Gresham even better (see CannaDaddy's for instance).

My experience on Thursday was very positive, but I don't want to post my location on a public forum. PM me if you want the name, it is in SE. I did pay $90 for a quarter (ouch), but the product was exquisite and I will probably go back a few more times just for the novelty, service & selection.

@His_Highness I agree, people need to start talking, not yelling. I spent the last 15 years talking to friends, family, etc.. to try and normalize the discussion. I've also gifted cannabis and water pipes to people that have expressed an interest. Some of them utilize cannabis, some of them try it once or twice and decide that it is not for them. Either way, I can almost guarantee you that all of them voted yes to legalize. Politics are simple, they start with a conversation.. planting seeds is our job if we want positive change in this republic.

90 for a quarter ain't too bad, down where I live in S. Colorado it's actually closer to 110-120 after tax, but like you said the bud is amazingly good. 1/10th a gram and I'm done. The big cities with all the competition is where the cheaper bud is, trouble is sometimes it looks good but the high is medicore so you have to find out who's growing the good stuff. Try a gram here and there, even though it's spendy. You'll thank yourself later!

I actually hit up a shop up in the resort town because their bud is always A+ and prices are only slightly higher (10-20 more per ounce) than the bigger cities. There are 3 shops in the area and ironically the cheapest of the 3 has the best cured bud.

Thanks for posting that @psychonaut, I didn't realize prices were so high in Colorado. I'd think more people there would be growing their own.

I don't mind paying twice what I am used to for the selection, but I have a feeling that novelty will wear off before the year is out.

Menu shopping this morning, I'm finding some shops with good strains for as low as $45 per quarter. It looks like this market is getting pretty competitive already.. so I think I'll wait a week or two and see were things settle before making a lot of purchases. Our tax doesn't kick in till January, so I have some time.

And spot on about the amount of consumption. With the high quality material and utilizing a vaporizer, a little goes a very long way.

Yep. Lower actually, they just updated their menu an hour ago.

https://www.leafly.com/dispensary-info/la-mota/menu

Follow that link. Blue Dream is $40/quarter. That may be the medicinal price, so say $50 to be safe. That is a price I have zero issues paying and I also love Blue Dream. Death Star and Green Candy are the same price.. and get this, at the bottom is Yoda for $30/quarter.

I think I'll hit up that store next weekend. Curious on the quality at those prices.

Did a bit of Leafly menu browsing this weekend myself and came across what may be a disturbing trend in some of the dispensaries now offering legal rec sales...Several shops in Eugene are placing "Medical only" restrictions on many top shelf menu items (strains) in their shops and limiting rec sales to less desireable and sometimes unrecognisable mid grade, at best, strains...I'm sure they will claim that their motivation for doing this will be to protect access to top shelf bud for their existing OMMP medical patients. At face value is is a noble goal...But, doing this will only serve to drive many rec buyers back into the black market for access to those very same strains...This is also directly counter to one of the stated goals of the new rec law, that is to minimze black market sales in Oregon...If you can't buy what you want from a dispensary at a reasonable price where else are you going to go?...Artificial restrictions, like this, to normal market competition will also keep retail prices artificially high...no pun intended...A truely free retail market will eventually bring prices down and drive the overall quality of retail herb up...Laws of supply and demand will accomplish those goals if the market is allowed to find it's own natural level...If government or well intentioned dispensary owners are allowed to screw with natural market conditions we will end up with a expensive and screwed up legal market for Cannibus in Oregon. Vote with your dollars...choose to do business with dispensaries that do not limit your access to what you want to buy! Also, be sure to tell the dispensaries that don't get it exactly why you are going elsewhere with your $$$! Also, be vocal in telling others to do the same...leverage your opinion by sharing with others how you feel.... Now that we are legal, we must continue to fight to insure that we will be at long last be truly free!

At least in Oregon you can grow your own cannabis. That might be an option for some wanting their fav strains in large amounts. You could also trade with others that were growing their own so you could have a variety of strains.

In WA state you can only grow if you become part of a med cannabis registry.

@llebhcaoc exactly. Also, I like to give a lot of positive feedback to the bud tenders. I usually deal with 2 different gals and they know what I'm after. If you get a chance to talk with the owners. Let them know what's important to you in the product. The cheapest shop in a 60 mile radius doesn't cure their bud well at all, smells like grass/hay until you break it up. It's mostly loose nugs too, which is why I spend more elsewhere. Great stuff is about 280/oz after tax in S. Colorado. Those lesser quality/same strains are about 230. Denver has some super cheap herb around 100/oz but there are shops everywhere and the quality may match the price.

The best bud I've purchased was the most expensive.

Have fun shopping Oregon, can't wait for my visit =)

Absolutely so Carol and Psyco, being able to exersize my right to vape what I grow is a valued difference between the OR law and WA law...A right that I think I personally artfully exercise...They got that part of the new law right...My concern is more addressed toward relinquishing my right to decide for myself what I can buy or not buy...My concern is that while legalizing with one hand the powers that be continue to butt into things that adult Americans can, and should, decide for themselves...And I do agree with you Psyco, you do usually get what you pay for...I have no problem paying top dollar for top shelf in all things in life...food, wine, cigars, etc...I do have a problem with someone other than me deciding what is best and is going to be made available to me...Having been a OMMP card holder since the early days of the program, I have a healthy respect for those who provide medicine and care for those in need...In the same breath I don't respect people who presume to know better than I, for whatever reason, what's best for me....And, the best bud I have ever had came from my own well tended garden....Give us a shout when you get up this way and I'd be pleased to share with you some of my finest.

Discerning cannabis shoppers even in alaska, washington and wa dc want to by bud/etc. in oregon and colorado, where they seem to be doing legalization 'right' so far. And who wouldn't want to shop around the medical dispensaries in california, I know I sure would. I live in a legal state, and the only place I've bought weed (& hash) legally is in amsterdam! Unfortunately, we're turning it over to the liquor board too :disgust:

The only place I've bought bud in a shop was in WA a few months back. I had not realized that Oregon was not quite ready for recreational sales until a day or two before my trip.

It was a very new and sometimes overwhelming experience having so many choices and options.

I really hope Alaska will soon open up dispensaries. I won't be offended if they only want to serve medical patients, I would simply get my card renewed.

Visited another shop yesterday, this one a few blocks down the street from the office. Very cool experience.

Last Thursday I hit the store closest to home because I wanted to purchase the 1st day it was legal for sale (future bragging rights and all that) and I don't drive if I don't have to . I knew what I wanted in advance and treated it like a beer run.. in and out as fast as I can.

Yesterday I decided that I needed an extended break from some stress at the office, so I decided to go for a walk and check out another store. This was the opposite experience of my first cannabis run. I was led into a private room with a very cool atmosphere. They had about 15 strains in mason jars and the woman behind the counter was extremely helpful, encouraging me to smell all of the strains I asked about. She not only answered all of my questions, she expanded upon them. Basically treated me like royalty, it felt nice and calmed me down during a stressful day.

I left there with 4 grams of New York Diesel and 3 of Goji OG. Amazing quality buds. Last night I tried the Diesel first and it was good, although not as powerful as I was expecting (based on friends talking about it.. basically I hyped it up over the past year trying to find it with my street connections). The Goji on the other hand, wow, that was a fun high. It gave me mad amounts of energy and I ended up on my drum kit for a few hours.. not normal for me to do on a relaxing Friday night.

I'm going to take a co-worker with me on Monday.. they have a very nice looking Durban Poison (another one on my top 5 sativa to try list) that I'm going to pick up. Once I find some Super Silver Haze, I'll have procured my sativas and move on to indica collecting.

One weird thing did happen though. I had nightmares and stressful dreams last night. I normally don't dream (or remember them to be more accurate).

These nightmares were pretty intense. One of them scared me so much that I woke up and immediately pulled my handgun from the bedside table. I turned on the mounted flashlight to illuminate the room. Then I realized I've never owned a mounted flashlight. Then I woke up.. in a peaceful forest setting. I knew I was dreaming and woke up (yet again). I basically had a nightmare within a nightmare within a dream. Not cool. I'm hoping it was due to work related stress and not the strains.

Durban is great! pretty unique flavor/aroma
I just had some Super Silver Kush this morning :ko:
It will be amazing when we can just stop in a store like that over here!!

To be honest, I'm still pretty amazed that we can do it over here.. it's why I keep posting in this thread. "Holy shit! Guys, I can actually walk into a store and buy from all these strains! Just like beer! Holy fuck!" I'm still trying to accept that this is the new normal.

Glad to hear that you like the Durban. Everything I've read about it seems pretty positive. I'm really into the high energy sativas lately and it looks like Durban Poison is one of the originals.. Super Silver *anything* is the last on my sativa list.. hopefully soon. I was going to go for a drive and pick up some today, but vaping a bowl and playing video games is going to take priority.

My BiL picked up super silver haze in Portland the other day, but I do not know which dispensary.

I'm really digging the way people new to legal shops are enjoying the access to various strains. Reminds me of the first time I went to the shops in Amsterdam a few decades ago.

Within moments of arriving at a coffee shop called The Grasshopper, I watched in amazement as the bud tender pulled out large plastic boxes full of bud, glorious bud, more weed than I had ever seen in my life in one place! And hash, real traditional hash from the near east, Asia, and Africa! OMG

If you find out, let me know @woolspinner. The one place I found it is of questionable quality according to a friend that went there. Leafly is great and all, but I can only get a list of sellers by name, not location, when I search for a specific strain.

@Gunky, yeah, it's pretty awesome. There are so many places to choose from in the metro area and they all carry different strains.

I've been sticking with the more expensive yuppie boutiques so far. Kind of just treating myself until the novelty wears off. The quality, selection & service is worth the markup in prices. I'm currently vaping some of that Goji with my enano and damn, it tastes great and the effects are very profound.

Medicine Pot on Hwy 30 ( St Helen's Hwy). It was wonderful. Setting one on my Haze produced surprisingly strong vapor.
