Acquire more herb than you can use?

I do. Sometimes I thinks it's a problem. But then I used to collect wine too. I have way more wine around than I need or consume. But at least it gets better with age (up to a point.)

I have to put my purchases on a spreadsheet so I can keep track of where and when acquired. I sort it by strain type. Ok, the admission I have to make is that I have 38 Sativa or Sativa dominant strains; 15 Indica or Indica Dom strains; 6 high CBD strains. Amount varies from just a nug of some to 1/8ths of many. I also have 3 vape pen batteries with 5 Sat and 2 Ind cartridges.

That's my confession.

I usually buy my cannabis in small amounts, I too like to have a large variety to choose from depending on the need at the time. I'm not sure how many different kinds I have right now but it's a variety of sativa hybrids, indica hybrids and pure indicas.

I use a few different size cvaults to store them along with the Boveda pkgs. I probably won't need to go shopping for a month. If I hear hear of a particular strain I want to try and even if I have plenty of cannabis I will buy more.

I received my cannabis med cert a year ago last May, before legal kicked in WA. I used to get whatever my black market friend had available. It was usually really good quality but I couldn't choose. I like having a nice variety. I've been like a kid in a candy store, even now over a year later.

I don't take this privilege for granted. It could be taken away at a blink of an eye with our next president.

Just out of interest how much is a gram of high grade in USA

Depends where you live as to the cost. If it's a legal or non legal or a medical cannabis state. I see the East Coast cost more than the West Coast.

Sept 11, 2015
California

The volume weighted average price in California was $1,884 per pound, down 1% from $1,900 last week. There were fewer large (50+ pound) transactions reported, with the average deal size decreasing to less than 10 pounds.

Oregon
The volume weighted average price in Oregon was $1,841 per pound, up 2% from $1,802 per pound last week. Reported transactions ranged from $1,100 per pound to $2,225 per pound. A report released by the Washington State Institute for Public Policy provided a preliminary evaluation of I-502, the initiative that legalized cannabis for recreational use in Washington.

Washington
The volume weighted average price in Washington was $1,843 per pound, up 9% from $1,689 per pound last week. The largest volume transactions occurred at our around the $1,800 per pound price point, while the highest observed price was $2,400 per pound.

Colorado
The volume weighted average price in Colorado was $2,040 per pound, a decrease of 2% from last week’s price of $2,090. The reported week-on-week trading range narrowed to $750 per pound from $1,100 per pound last week.

Nevada prices averaged $2,643 per pound

Arizona prices averaged $2,430 per pound

Michigan average price increased 13% to $2,631 per pound. Ahead of the statewide initiative noted last week, the Detroit City Council may soon see a proposal to regulate medical cannabis dispensaries in Michigan’s largest city. There are currently dozens of dispensaries operating in Detroit, but as they are unregulated and unlicensed, the exact number is unknown.

Washington, D.C. was $2,770 per pound, a decrease of 8% from last week.

Black market prices averaged over $3,000 per pound in New York; in Wisconsin prices decreased 5% to $3,100 per pound.

I couldn't find stats on Alaska. If anyone has info let everyone know.

I will look for Canadian cannabis stats.

EDIT
This is from spring. I like the map so I will add even though they're old prices. This is what the average Joe pays for an ounce last May 2015. Cannabis on the East Coast is expensive.

This I had posted elsewhere on FC. It's averaged out I think with medical and legal also black market thrown in.

I try to front-run my needs by laddering my purchases. So yeah, I acquire more than I can use when I can. I try to keep one batch in play with another one or two batches/purchases in the untouched line-up. I start looking for the next purchase as soon as one batch is used up so I have some lead time before I run out. Can't always work that out because I don't live in a legal state or have enough connections.

It's kinda like my parents who grew up in the great recession and learned the value of 'saving'. After 40 years of use I've run into a great MJ recession myself a time or two so I've also learned the value of 'saving'.

I live equal distance from San Francisco and San Jose so I have multiple dispensaries 20-30 minutes away in either direction. Not to mention Hempcons, Emerald Cup, High Times Cannabis Cup, etc. So I have a multitude of riches available. I'm also partial to full-sun-grown organic, lab-tested, herb. I just can't see spending $20/gram for indoor untested herb.

That said, you can see I'm a collector. In addition to collecting wine I used to smoke cigars, and at one time had 1,000 in various humidors. I pretty much stopped smoking when I got prostate cancer last year, had robotic surgery but then also had to have radiation and Lupron hormone treatment. So I got my mjm rec in March 2014. I still have over 300 cigars - a lifetime supply at my current consumption rate (1 or 2/month).

So what's a hoarder to do? My son is my Ganga guru so he gets a lot of my "extra" herb. I like to try stuff out, and I've definitely found my favorite types of strains: Jack Herrer and other strains with the same citrus-piney smell and uplifting effect ( XJ-13 for example) for daytime or early-mid evening medication, followed by Cherry Pie/GSC/OG Kush like strains for late night.

I have all the herb in glass jars inside and around 2 tupperware containers (one for Sativas, one for Indicas) that are inside a large Tupperware that's inside a zippered pillow container inside a closet. My wife tolerates my use but demands I keep the smell down.

Too much?

Not possible :p

I joke, I joke... But , many of my friends call me "The Herb Hoarder"

I still have a few buds from my first grow in 2013.

And I have many exotic, clone only strains in which the original cut has been discontinued due to Genetic Drift *
*The slow degradation of genetics from the Mother Plant in which the clones or "cuts" are sourced from.

Some are well over 2 years old.

I'm not sure how many strains I have ATM, but I'm sure it's 25+ ..A medium sized floor safe (2 cubic feet) crammed with various sized jars.

I do give a lot away as well.. Got one friend with moderate back pain,he always offers compensation, but I refuse.

Premium Flowers are paramount, and savoring each little morsel is such bliss.

Variety truly is the spice of life :peace:

Nope, not possible. There's always stash jars you can place in dark dry storage, those will last years. I've got some rainy day stuff from 3 years ago that still tastes amazing. Like, just as great as when first cured, maybe even a little better.

Then there's always concentrates, and edibles... but I'm guessing the trend of this thread is quantity of cultivars rather than the quantity of product, so in that regard, I do tend to hoard what I like, but it's always three different genetics, which I keep around until I find something I like more and want to replace a herd member with.

I don't ever have more than I could use, but being a medical user, I keep enough to last me out the next month or 2 usually. Noone fills their prescriptions on a more regular basis than every month though so this to me is nowhere near excessive. Especially given that mmj concentrates are the only way that I achieve adequate and uninterrupted sleep due to my conditions.

I do not hang onto much in terms of flowers typically, I tend to turn them into extracts (my meds) quickly and ensure that they are properly treated and stored. I do have some excellent bubble that almost traces back to my undergrad days now! A good few years of curing! It has gotten better and better as time has gone on :D

I tend to only consume rosin (from flower and bubble) and winterized, sterilized QWISO/QWET absolute shatters. There aren't many forms of extraction that don't go on up in here!

However I do increasingly have a philosophy of only using as much solvent processing as absolutely necessary for medical application. I have increasingly replaced much of my solvent teks with solventless teks, but I doubt I'll stop using solvents completely as they do assist in some advanced processing methods that cannot yet be achieved without a solvent.

Learning water and solventless extractions has really given me an even deeper understanding of the cultivars/starting material as well as woken me up to so many more of the considerations that are central to safe MMJ usage.

I am so jealous of you guys and your selections of strains! One day...

I'd post a pic but uploading isn't allowed. I guess I have to post it to another site and then link to it - right?

I think in uk we mainly get indicia as it's easier and quicker to grow, stays nice and short ( good for stealth grows ).
Indica tends to be denser buds with more fruity flavours. Sativa more airy buds an piney flavours. But most are hybrids so it's almost impossible to know really.

Because of this I chose a 80/20 sativa for my grow. And it's noticeable. Seems to be very phycoactive

I've currently got two types, they look different, smell different, taste different, but both are skunk.

I know the different between :- Thai, African bush / block weed, skunk. This strain malarkey is a completely different ball game!

I have to put my purchases on a spreadsheet

If you're having fun, that's all that matters. I suspect there is joy in knowing all the different tastes and effects of each one. It's also fun to mix: I think @lwein calls it a "mixed salad". It's all good.

It is not uncommon for me to have 6 to 8 ounces in reserve. Having lived in times of great need, there is an impulse to stock up when I really don't need to. It's legal here in WA. It just gives me joy knowing that they're there. And I have a med card, so it's legal (nervously look around).
