I am patiently still waiting for my GH. I have a few vapes to hold me off but like most of you i have the VAS also. I grabbed a Mighty in the mean time to calm my VAS down , I'm still looking at everything out there so that didn't help so much but the mighty is a really nice vape so far. Super powerful free air flow hits , its big , not something you'd really want to carry around in public with you but its almost performs like my desktops in the sense you get those lung busting hits most portables don't give you and it's got decent battery life. My shipping date for my hopper keeps getting pushed back also , I am in line for November now but it has moved so much that i don't have high expectations it will actually come than. I see allot of people are having problems with them but i am not to worried , the gh didn't break the bank and i would not want a refund bc of the fact it was not to expensive at all. Plus the Life time warranty kinda eases my mind , they have not really given me a reason to show they are not supporting the lifetime warranty and seems they have and have been trying to help those out quickly that have had problems. So i am wishing luck to all of us that are waiting in line.

That is a fantasy, there is no way they are at even half of that.

I am seriously considering asking for a refund. I have a bad feeling pre-orders won't get anything till Feb. if at all. This thing where they keep bumping people one month at a time seems fishy.
I think 2updates ago, ghl said they were not going to bump shipping estimates one month at a time. Instead, they planned to adjust dates with more realistic (my choice of words) estimates. That's why my last shipping estimate got bumped from September to November.

I don't think it matters much. I believe ghl sets the shipping estimates in good faith at the time it is made. It's just that shit happens between the time the estimates are set and life moves on...

Me:
Is mine still on track to ship in Nov? I have read that a fairly high number of the Grasshoppers are breaking or running to hot for the mouthpiece so I have another question. If mine breaks how quickly do replacements ship and who pays for the shipping to me for a replacement and who pays for the return shipping for the broke vape?

GH:
Your Grasshopper is still on track to ship in November. You can always see the most up to date shipping information by logging in to your account on Grasshoppervape.com and selecting your order. We have been working in small batches and have been able to easily detect and correct any issues that have come up. Per our warranty, Hopper Labs will cover 1 way of shipping for the repair or replacement. We are usually able to process a repair the same day, but occasionally it takes a few days to get the replacement sent.

thanks for the info @smutman ... would you please remind us if you are a backer or a preorder... and when you backed or preordered? Trying to gauge what "November" means to the rest of us... thanks in advance :)

You're welcome and I was a preorder, ordered at the end of July.
I doubt you'll have yours in November. There won't be any preorders shipped out until all the backers have been fulfilled, and with the rate that's happening at, I wouldn't expect you'll be getting yours anytime soon. I mean, there's a possibility that they'll ramp up production at some point and start going through things quicker, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I agree but I got an email today saying it was lol. If it doesn't then I will get my refund and probably never buy this.

Grab a Zion for instant convection without form factor convenience. Small trade off while you wait for your GH. Plus... kinda nice to have lifetime warranties from two different companies and have two game changing vapes at your disposal when one (likely the GH) needs to be sent in! Plus you could have both for the price of one mighty I believe. :2c::peace:

To sum up before tomorrow's late nite update: A month ago they were delivering to Nov 16th backers, mostly Nov 23rd backers getting notifications now. At this pace, with regular improvements, it'll take every second of Oct & November to complete backer orders.

Dec 3rd backer, current estimate September, if I get mine in October that means something big got better, if current pace continues unchanged I'm looking at mid-November. Wish'em all the best :).

I emailed GHL on September 17th asking about my slated September ship date and received this response from Caroline. I backed Nov. 28th 2013.

"We have not yet begun shipping Grasshoppers to Backers with your contribution date. We are still estimating your Grasshopper to ship in September. We appreciate your patience."

Now I was imagining that I'd be receiving my shipping confirmation like September 30th but not actually see it until first week of October.

I am still speechless that they told me two weeks ago that it would ship in September. When they just started sending confirmations for November 24th orders today. This is what really irritates me.

The ‘Grasshopper Vaporizer’ team just posted:

1 new Announcement:

Hey Everyone,

We’re here with a quick production update. The team continues to push Grasshoppers out the door and we’ve now delivered over a thousand units. This is a good start and has put Grasshoppers in about 35% of backer’s hands. Thanks to everyone who provided feedback on these first-run units.

We know there are still many of you awaiting delivery and it has been a slow process. Delivery is happening and you will receive your Grasshopper. Our goal is first to produce a quality product and second to increase production volume. It was necessary to make some adjustments to ensure that everyone gets working Grasshoppers the first time. In our testing of these adjustments, the Grasshopper has proved reliable for over 50,000 cycles and counting. These tweaks will be in full production this month, and will coincide with a further increase in production batch size.

Some users were wondering about the Grasshopper’s certifications. The device is both FCC and CE certified. CE paperwork will now be included on shipments when required to speed up the customs clearance process. We’ll soon be including an option for Priority Mail shipping which will be available during address verification. This option will also provide you with shipping insurance, and we recommend this option to anyone who is worried about failed delivery.

We’ll be back with another production update on the 15th.

Well fuck me run'n, remember to check your spam folder. My shipping confirmation has been there for a month. I emailed GHL about it before checking spam and got a response in under three minutes. November 15th backer, btw.

What type of email? Yahoo?

After the last update from GHL I had some real concerns about everything and sent an email to them. Here is the reply I got back from Trevor.

Thanks for checking in with me. Pre-orders will start shipping once backer units have been delivered. The speed at which this happens is dependent on many factors but the rate of delivery is exponentially higher than when we started. We have the capacity to get through delivery quickly but we want to ensure everything is working as intended with thousands of people now using the device. Had we imminently produced 10,000 units we would be in a bad situation if we needed to make even minor tweaks. We have done beta testing but without millions of dollars to conduct a huge beta test, problems were expected to show up in real world usage. We have had remarkably few issues and have published the rate of incidence in our previous updates.

We fully expect your Hoppers to get to you before Christmas but we cannot guarantee it. There are are too many factors and we are too new of a company to instantly absorb hiccups. This is why we can only provide an estimate. When you receive them you can expect them to be fully functioning. The warranty is currently only valid for you, but a single email from you can facilitate a replacement and we will ship it directly to them. We know this is not ideal and are working on a more complete system.

The test we referenced runs max temperature thermal cycles on the electronics and heater.

Hope this answers some of your questions.

Best,

Trevor

So I still don't expect to have my order by Christmas even though I have a November estimated shipping time. I do feel better that I at least got a personalized response back from Trevor and he replied back to everyone of my concerns.

I truly hope the failure rates are close to what they report but it certainly doesn't seem that way here or on Reddit. There seems to be a lot of people reporting that they have gotten hopper and a day or two later reporting it failing.

Overall I feel he answered me honestly and while there was some back peddling on delivery estimates I don't feel as if they are trying to deceive people with their estimated shipping times.

It would have cost millions of dollars for more extensive testing?
That's absurd...
no, it's not. More extensive testing would've required (at the least) hundreds of batches of varied configurations of hoppers in order to perform a truly controlled study.

So what's that look like, spending literally millions of extra dollars for testing? Making an extra few hundred vapes that cost a couple of thousand bucks each, just for testing purposes? For a start up with a few thousand orders?

"More extensive testing" COULD have been anything beyond what they did....

That's where Trevor gets me every time. He writes a thoughtful informative response, and then puts a single sentence in there that's a head-scratcher.-- "We have done beta testing but without millions of dollars to conduct a huge beta test, problems were expected to show up in real world usage"

He makes it sound like issues of overheating, fallling-apart back ends, red/blue lights of death, etc., only showed up once they sent mass numbers of hoppers out? A beta test of 100 units seems like it would have flushed these kinds of things out, and would cost...what...$5 grand? I seriously doubt any vape company spends millions on beta testing. That's just far fetched to my ears? Guess it's not totally relevant now, but I don't think proper testing is really that difficult.

Can anyone point me to a vape that is made by a company that is taking in millions per year? I just don't see the industry being quite that large...

No, it would cost millions of dollars to produce 10,000 units to extensively test and then find an error and then build 10,000 more and throw out the ones with the errors.

Side note: I got delivery attempt, so I will have it Monday. My college doesn't have post on weekends.

Honestly when I think about it, how many cases between FC and Reddit have had failure hoppers? Maybe like 30 or 40 tops? So if they really have sent out over 1,000 units we're really not hearing about so many units. Idk I'd rather stay positive here.

FC is probably a small percentage worldwide - we are a small community when you think about U.S, Canada, Europe and Asia. We really don't know on what scale their failure rate is and I don't know if GHL would level anyway. They don't want to scare off potential buyers.
