Discontinued The Grasshopper

Wood is an insulator. The same property that would keep the outside cool would keep the inside hotter. This would lead to the hopper overheating and flashing red & blue lights sooner. It might not be a problem for shortish high-temp usage, acting in the same role as the silicone mouth guard, but I'm not so sure it would work out for trying to make the hopper more 'sessionable'.

That's a good point and something I hadn't considered. Thanks.

Can't be much to say in this update besides they're making progress and less units are failing, which we can't confirm anyway. All I care to read and know at this point is when all the backers have their units. I'm an early June preorder so I'm probably #10,000 in line

This was covered before - the LED is sealed behind a piece of glass. The airpath is sealed from the electronics and lighting.

Where did you see brass mentioned? So far details are extremely limited regarding the heater. All we know for certain is that it's a 3D printed heater. The technology or specific material used hasn't been mentioned as far as I recall

I tried asking Trevor about the heater but its a trade secret and unfortunately, he can't disclose anything about it. I was wondering what it was made out of because I also read that it was brass back in the Indiegogo Campaign but then I read somewhere else that they switched it to stainless steel.

Isn't brass bad for pipes etc...?

I used to smoke out of a diy brass pipe.... tasted so bad. and I'm pretty sure brass is bad for this type of usage..... sorry I have no info on that...

Yeah, I tried to ask for info as well, but wasn't told anything aside from the usual "company secret" bs. I'm betting it's a DSLS printer with a medical grade stainless steel material. FYI - that technology isn't cheap. I was quoted $180 EACH to 3D print my Scoop-N-Stir tools using a DSLS!

Finally met up with a friend who had an extra Titanium GH to loan me for a few days, so stoked to finally try this vape out!! Can't really say anything that hasn't been said before - it certainly lives up to the hype. I knew the mouthpiece was going to get hot, so I took the steps to avoid heat buildup (turning off the heater halfway through the hit, holding MP in hands to remove excess heat, waiting a while between puffs, etc).

So far I'm really impressed, it will fit nicely into my collection. I can't wait to give it a workout over the next few days. Few GH inventions coming this weekend, be on the lookout for an announcement!

The ‘Grasshopper Vaporizer’ team just posted:

1 new Announcement:

Hey Everyone,

We’re here with a quick production update. The team continues to push Grasshoppers out the door and we’ve now delivered over a thousand units. This is a good start and has put Grasshoppers in about 35% of backer’s hands. Thanks to everyone who provided feedback on these first-run units.

We know there are still many of you awaiting delivery and it has been a slow process. Delivery is happening and you will receive your Grasshopper. Our goal is first to produce a quality product and second to increase production volume. It was necessary to make some adjustments to ensure that everyone gets working Grasshoppers the first time. In our testing of these adjustments, the Grasshopper has proved reliable for over 50,000 cycles and counting. These tweaks will be in full production this month, and will coincide with a further increase in production batch size.

Some users were wondering about the Grasshopper’s certifications. The device is both FCC and CE certified. CE paperwork will now be included on shipments when required to speed up the customs clearance process. We’ll soon be including an option for Priority Mail shipping which will be available during address verification. This option will also provide you with shipping insurance, and we recommend this option to anyone who is worried about failed delivery.

We’ll be back with another production update on the 15th.

The Grasshopper Team

It's a pretty good update. Not much else to say, over 1,000 units out 35% backers is decent, we all like our numbers :) I do like that he said first making sure of a quality product then increase production value.

What did he mean by proved reliable for over 50,000 cycles?

I believe it means, with the new "adjustments", one (or more) Grasshopper(s) survived that many heat cycles during testing. So 100% of the unit(s) he's referring to, which have yet to ship, are working great. That's awesome, at least for people who haven't received anything yet.

Personally I will be looking very closely at failure rates for units shipped in Oct., to verify that everything has improved.

Edit: Since the design is still being worked out, I'm happy to be on the sidelines. If I had one in hand, not sure if I would hold onto it or force a replacement with the latest and greatest...

I thought that's what he was referring to, just didn't think it was possible. This is a relatively pretty good update.

Lmao the GH team can say anything in these updates. They already have the money so you're really at their mercy until they decide to ship it. Only 35% of backers orders fulfilled means most people won't receive theirs until December. At least that large scale battery charger has been working though.

So if 35% of all backers have have seen grasshoppers ship, that leaves over 2000 IGG backers yet to.
An average of 22 hoppers per day, every day, will have to be ready to ship in order to cross those names off that list within the year.
I mean, that seems quite possible, 154 sent out each week...

At this point I want to know how many people are on the preorder list because it seems it could push those numbers way beyond feasibility. I only ordered in late July this year, with September quoted as the estimated shipping date. This has been pushed to November, and in the time since I've ordered it seems the design hasn't even been completely finalised. I'm extremely doubtful I'll be seeing my GH this year, although the UK shop VapeFiend listing December as an ETA is a hopeful sign..

I am pretty sure my Bronze is done for now. I was using it with oils and hitting it fairly consistently. Also had it on the charger on my drive with a full battery about 10 minutes in it gave me red lights I swapped the battery and it would go red for a second and turn off. Swapped to the previous battery and it goes red without heating or going blue. Also no more ticker in the clicker.

In the message from GHL they didn't mention the failure rates like last time. I question 1 out of 10 are faulty, it seems pretty high in the FC community. They said they were working towards 1 out of 20.

Another blah update IMO. At this rate it looks like backers will have orders fulfilled by end of January and then on to pre-orders AND that is only if there are no further issues. It still appears to me like they are stringing people (pre-orders) along. A July pre-order should have a tentative delivery date of March 2016.

If this company was being 100% transparent they should not even have had shipping dates set for pre-orders, they should have simply said we will try and get backers completed ASAP and then move on to pre-orders. Backers have ended up being BETA testers and they should have been transparent about that also.

I am wishing them success and hope I can grab a fully functional hopper in May of 2016.

What I don't understand is they said they have shipped 35% of the backers now. According to the spreadsheet with contribution amounts for each day they have $87,764.00 total for end of day November 24th 2013. I just saw people getting confirmations for Nov 24th yesterday. So those numbers really don't add up. If they truly were at 35% I would have already seen my hopper.

Spreadsheet link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AkqKZT-Qb0s-dFlpS1VyTzRwWXdGMkxYSThWTkVKQ3c&output=html

I really wouldn't take that spreadsheet as any estimation as to whats happening at all. A public spreadsheet, that anyone could add info to when and wherever they wanted...just doesnt work as being remotely accurate.

Oh and you spelt Patient wrong on your forum name by the way ;) ;)

I think you need a target date, it is just that they were super wrong about the dates. These guys made a brand new kind of vape. You can't know how long something will take to do when it has never been done before.

The last 2 posts from them had mentions of quality control. More testing and 50k cycles and counting is good news.

The only bad news seems to be that some people will have to continue to wait. It doesn't seem like they are quitting or rushing? I think you will be ok in the long run?

I don't think they are ready not have the ability to do that currently unless they start selling units to be made(at some point) and hiring more people. Then I think they will be able to do it but at this point no I don't think they can mass produce these
