Haha oh don't you worry, I've constantly been checking that it will still be easily tameable like my beta unit, its just now more of the dial will be useable overall for temp stepping, and even high on the dial, you'll find a way to control and make it work for you I am sure, practice makes perfect and practice is very fun!

I know what you mean shitsnacks, 90% of my personal vaping is "oooooo, well that worked well. I wonder if I do the same thing again will it be just as cool?" Sure enough this vaping thing hasn't stopped being awesome yet, but it's always good to keep an eye on it!

Hi All,
Thanks for letting me hang around so long before I came in to say hi. Been lurking (on this thread) since about Page 30...
I was going to wait until I had something constructive to add before posting, but frankly, I don't think that is possible with this one. RBT and co. Seem to have everything covered, and then some.
Instead I will just say this looks awesome and I was finally inspired to join(and buy) because I like the way this has evolved in such an open, collaborative and amusing way. Maybe contributions on the 18mm Stealth, which I am also in for.
Also, a special thanks to fc for helping me spend all my money...

I've found you cannot "get lazy" with vaping like you could with smoking. There is a bit more "prep" work to get that ass-kick session, but worth it a thousand times over. With combustion, it could only get so good, but it was pretty easy to roll a dube, or pack a bowl, and just do it.

I like the "work", the "practice"... great fun.

@Bravesst : the Zion is by far the fastest vaporizer to prepare that I own. It's way faster than rolling a spliff: I just grind a fine line by hand in my left hand palm, allowing me to judge easily the quantity, then I grab one of the glass stems and I suck the line inside the bowl/screen in one pass. Afterwards I just plug the stem in the Zion, turn the power dial to about 80%, press the trigger and count to 5, then finally start inhaling and I get vapor. Voila! Near instant gratification!

Don't worry about the technic too much. It's really just a matter of counting the time you press the trigger when you are used to it (ie don't be distracted and hold it for 30 seconds or the inverse, being too fast and holding it not enough)

Surprisingly the temperature stepping is achieved almost automatically. I mean, it's really "organic". Even if you don't pay attention to it, and even if you don't touch the power knob for the entire session and leave it as is, you will do the temp stepping just by adjusting the trigger timing and judging the amount of vapor you get. I know it's not very clear, but once you'll have it in your hands you will see.

Say if I was to do a full session on 80% power, I would need very little preheat and short draws to get plenty of vapor when the bowl is still fresh. But as the session goes on (and without touching the power knob) I will not increase the preheat time by much (as the device soaks and store heat over time, in fact I would tend to decrease the preheat time) but I will need to increase the inhalation time and/or hold the trigger for longer when hitting. This way you get higher and higher in temperature, and you know when to stop judging by the "spent" taste.

Yes exactly, one dial setting can still have temp stepping abilities. However with the new mica insulator in the heaters vs your glass, low on the dial works remarkably well for low temp hits even with long preheat. You kinda get options for both and anything in between, it is technique, but there are so many variables that everyone can find their own individual technique with more and more use, making it not even technique at all really, but organic

Right, when I am after flavor in particular I start around 20% and don't preheat at all. I think I was the first with the Mica insulator and it seemed to have made a dif in low temp hitting.
I tend to do the rest of the session at 75% unless I am a little greedy or looking for sedation at the very top of the temp range.
If you are into flavor, Kero, as I think everyone is once they have experienced it, I think you are gonna like your production model.

With all this technique talk I wonder how to is for a first time user? For example with my solo I simply tell people to take a nice long slow breath, and everyone who uses it is happy. For those with units in hand do you feel it is user friendly and easy to share or does it require a tutorial from owner to friend?

Because it is open loop and the knob is power rather than temp it may take a little while to get used to it, but it shouldn't be difficult for anyone. I was getting good hits right away, but it took me a day or so the get GREAT OUTSTANDING WONDERFUL hits. :) Some folks get it right immediately.

That's without any real (in person) direction. With direction it should be easy peazy.

I know it will be clearer, but I understand what you're saying, the variables play off each other for the perfect result every time. I like what I'm hearing, not a ton of work, and hard to get wrong.
For you in the top 40 or 50, tomorrow is October, time to get start thinking about the reality of getting this bad boy. For me, I'm just concentrating on my current vapes, until we all know more about when shipping will happen.

Although last we heard from RBT everything was on or ahead of schedule don't forget first we will see the Alpha Beta units, than the standard beta units. Assuming there is not issues, we will next see the production run. We may be getting close, but don't expect 50 units shipping in the next two weeks.

Just out of curiosity, for those of us who aren't among the beta testers (and as such don't have regular contact with RBT) should we expect email notifications when our Zions ship? I'm hoping I don't have to go to the post office and check if I have a package waiting every day from mid-October until I get my Zion :p

Very well put 'organic' explains it all I think. From it's humble start as a plastic box with the heater strapped to the outside. To where it is today, and tomorrow, having been caressed by a $150k Haas.
It's 'organic' method of intuitive use.
In the very, very near future people are going to become one with their Zion's.
I hate to say it but a little bit of envy may have crept into my life as I haven't jumped on board the Zion Train.

So all I can say is
COME ON NOVEMBER/DECEMBER it's gonna be time for the UrS18650:D and Dual Power House:rockon:

Everyone I've used it with, of varying vape experience levels, have used some of my other vapes, but all had no trouble with those simple instructions and could often get bigger hits than me bc of my relatively weaker lungs since they all smoke too and have been smoking for longer than me as well. Haven't gotten a chance to try it with more of a total virgin yet but it would probably be nuts... Everyone i tried it with seems to prefer it as well

@Fission there will definitely be some sort of email confirmation after the beta testers' ship, probably five or ten at a time then amping up. We'll see once the first ones are off the line

.... Organic is a really nice adjective here, much like versatile, may even sound better than natural as part of some sort of slogan...

I take it with the alpha and beta units that each Zion was essentially made from a single block of wood, but I noticed in the video of the Haas, that the "cap" is cut away and not preserved. I'm guessing that the plan is just to take other blocks of wood and cut the caps for each Zion out of those. I take it that the caps still fit just as well since everything is standardized and done by machine. We won't necessarily see the same continuous grain of wood though, will we? Since it's two different chunks of wood.

Anyway, hoping that I'm in the first 50 or so. I ordered right before the end of the original lifetime warranty deal, on July 26th. Here's to hoping that plenty of us get our Zions in October!

Oh I'm sure many many will...

Yeah single block of wood, the door and lid must be cut separately, but I believe they all still match, unless a lid or door is damaged I suppose. Not worth scrapping the rest for it

I was actually a little surprised to see that even tho it makes a lot of sense when automating the process. I would bet that the Betas were made more by hand without discarding those components as the grain on mine does SEEM to follow a more natural pattern for the cap and battery door. But it may just seem that way, however...

Edit: The more I look at Venus, the more I think that the cap at least was not cut from the body. The battery door looks more like the body, but may also not be part of it originally.
