Hey guys!

I was just sitting here thinking about how I love my VaporGenie for the ability to use miniscule amounts of herb and achieve efficient one-hit extraction. I just place a tiny pinch of herb (not even enough to cover the screen) in the center of the bowl and use a torch lighter and a bit of technique to get all the goodies in one shot!

Keep calm and VaporGenie on! :whoa: :science:

  • Greetings my fellow vapor genie ninjas! I gotta show u guys my bong set up and glass mouthpiece that I rigged up! They both work pretty damn good too. I got the bowl idea from someone else on this thread for the bong. It was a brass plumbing part I got for 3 bucks at the hardware store. Got the bong for 40$ at a headshop and the glass chillum I used for the mouthpiece was 20$, along with a piece of clear plastic hose to attatch the chillum to the vg for 2$. I think I might like the chillum mouthpiece attatchment a lil bit more because it seems to have more flavor in each hit. I need to put a rubber piece on the bowl for the bong to make it air tight. The air escaping is preventing it from getting full airflow so but I'm sure it should be much better once I add that to it . Can someone please tell me how to attatch a pic to my post from my phone?

Got the VG Glass Sherlock today and it is a swell vaporizer. This thing is nothing but feedback. You can see the vapor and feel the heat in your hands. Of course the vapor is very clean and your herb is what you taste and that is it. This vape would be a perfect vape for a beginner with the ability to see what is going on can be very helpful. That said, when comparing this VG Glass Sherlock to my Bronze Sherlock VG I think the Bronze Sherlock is a better unit with a nicer draw. As far as taste and everything else the glass has nothing over the bronze. Still I would rate the glass sherlock 7 out of 10 and the bronze at 9 out of 10. :2c:

What do you think of the taste in comparison to a Vapman? Isn't there a bit of a butane taste due to the open air path? I do like the look of the VG sherlocks, especially the bronze one.

I think the tastes overlap, you'd be very hard pressed to tell the difference blindfolded.

No "butane taste", since neither butane nor it's combustion products (water vapor and CO2) have any taste. I know I'm about to be hit with 'I can taste it' but scientifically that's not possible.......look it up?

FWIW, while I enjoy VGs (especially the Big Bronze one), I think VM is much more fun to own and use. But you won't go wrong with either one.

Be sure to get a couple of suitable torch type lighters. This is my favorite:

I've been looking at the VaporGenie line-up for a back-up vape when the power's out, on a long trip, or when I get the feeling to smoke a bowl..
Narrowed the choice down to something that can be 100% cleaned.. Aluminum classic pipe, the Glass bat, and the Sherlock models I like the best. But I haven't found any opinion on the glass bat at FC? What do you all think?
Considering just splurging on the Bronze Sherlock though.. and think about a more portable option later

To the list of 'can be 100% cleaned' you should add the Aluminum and Steel Bats and the Coil.

Once I discovered how much better a torch is (read 'candle flame lighters', hemp wick and so on is a joke.....) I wrote off the glass bat. I have the Coil and that convinced me I didn't want to go pointed a torch at my nose from half a foot out when I was stoned......perhaps you like that sort of action, I don't.

Therefore I've never tried that one (glass bat), although the Sherlock version is fine by me and also not on the list?

I also own a couple of others (hand carved and Aluminum Classic amongst them) and my hands down favorite one is the big Bronze one. Mine is not only the most pleasurable to use of the lot but is acquiring a lovely patina over time/use. Something I normally don't care much for (I see tools as tools), but this is the exception. It's mellowing over time, which is a good thing.

My recommendation is the Bronze guy, if you go glass go Sherlock and avoid the bat. You might also consider the VM, a personal favorite and very similar.

Hard to go too far wrong (unless you use hemp wick.....), and a guy does need a backup....

BTW I suggest you order a couple of these lighters, they work great and are priced right.

Thanks OF. Is there anything you don't like about the classic wood/aluminum models (Getting too hot, restricted draw, etc.)? The Sherlock models are the obvious champs.. But am thinking I may prefer something on the smaller side.

You're welcome, glad to help when I can. Lots of other good folks around here do so regularly as well. Stick with us, you can contribute as well once you sort this out?

I never warmed up to the classic. Too 'toy like' for me I guess. OTOH the hand carved ones I like, a 'throwback' to my (tobacco) pipe smoking youth perhaps? They (I'm on my second) seem more normal to me and being a little longer it's easier to see how to aim the torch into the exchanger and is a bit cooler vapor wise.

If you want hot, go with the metal bats. Especially the Aluminum one. By the time I get good vapor going it's time to drop the sucker before I get burned...... The coil is not that much better IMO and includes the added fun of fire pointed at your nose rather than past you awfully close. I'll take the latter if forced to pick.

Otherwise give me a bit of distance from the action, a clear view, some medium grind top shelf bud and a lighter and I won't bother you further.

You won't regret the Bronze one, but you'll need bigger pockets to carry it around.......

Hi guys, first post, first visit, almost first time smoker :)

I'm looking at the vapor genie classic having read loads of positive reviews about it. I'm not a tobacco smoker so it'll suit me fine but I can't find anywhere whether I can use resin as well as herb in it.

Anyone got any advice for me on that? And if not, any better suggestion for consuming without tobacco?

Sorry if that's way beyond noob requests, but everyone has to start somewhere :)

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Use a little resin on top of some herb and you will be fine.

It looks like the coil would fit in a 14mm female joint on some glass... am I wrong?

If I had it to do all over again, I would not waste my time with Lotus. Mine stopped working well after a few months of heavy use. Needs new metal plates, and I think VG works better and more versatile, but thats just my opinion after having both in my rotation for a couple of years now. My Lotus is retired but my VG vapes are still going strong as ever with no signs of damage. I liked the idea of the Lotus having the fuel out of the main air path, but that was really the only advantage I found it had over the VG when I got into using it. Not trying to knock it, just giving honest feedback after a lot of time and use. VG for the win! Still use my VG "mods" on the regular...

Borrowed a friends VG while my two S&B's are in the shop and I am really impressed! I'm definitely picking one up for a backup. Tried some hemp wick today instead of a lighter, it didn't work well. Don't know about its quality I just know I nearly extinguished it each time I drew.

Lighting a bic from a candle instead of using flint wheel seems fine and now that I have the hang of it, getting massive clouds.

Yeah, hempwick is one of the more challenging ways to use a vg, but I am getting better at it, as I occasionally use it if I need ultra (sound) Stealth or am low on lighter fluid.
You absolutely DO NOT want the hempwick to go out mid draw, though. It tastes /smells horrible when it is extinguished.

Great, glad you're getting on board. VG is a great product if you stick with it long enough for sure. And, because of the temperature control it allows you it can teach you a lot about vaping. So IMO it's both good and bad for Newbies. Powerful/versitle but not so simple to learn to use?

You might also consider Vapman, a personal favorite, a similar scheme (you heat it with fire before the hit, less to concentrate on at one time). And it's downright funky, got that 'Steampunk thing' going for it big time.

I agree Hemp Wick is fun to play with but not very practical. It adds more confusion to the hit at a time when many of us want less. Candle flame lighters (like Bic) are OK, provided you avoid the 'flint dust' which contains toxic 'heavy metals'. Vaping is about health, IMO that dust is a big old step backwards.

Instead I suggest getting a couple of these guys:

http://www.tinydeal.com/refillable-jet-1300-butane-lighter-with-tank-p-2570.html

http://www.dx.com/p/jet-1300-c-butane-lighter-1320#.Vg6Ic8nSO9I

Under three bucks shipped from either vendor (the second one has been reported 'slow' by some, I've never had it take more than a couple weeks, I think TinyDeal is faster and a bit cheaper right now). These guys (or similar) give you much better control of the heat and won't carbon foul the heat exchanger in VG like Bics or Hemp Wick can/will. In fact you use a torch like them to clean the exchanger when needed (technique on the VG site).

I don't know which VG you're using, but take care in selecting the model. Some are much easier to use than others. Avoid the metal bats and the coil unless it's for WT use, they get hot too fast. Also the longer ones are easier to see and aim/control the heat......much better than having fire pointed at your face from 4 inches out while hiding under your nose.....

I agree with the idea of a VM as backup, although it's a fun vape in it's own right. Some herb in a jar, a good torch type lighter and a VG makes for 'guaranteed vaping in a box' you can fall back on any time. You might even include that candle, just in case the power is off at the time?

Regards,
