Arizer Solo

You too? I've bought and sold many Solo's since the day it came out. I'm pulling the trigger again! I just miss using it with a gong too much. Give it a bit of a heat soak, and POW instant thick SUPER TASTY CLOUDS!
Definitely remember those first hits after a heat soak. And it would just keep going as well. My favorite milkshake.

A friend broke my gong a few days after I got everything, so I wasn't even familiar with the solo yet! When my first evo broke (runaway heat problem), I cut the top off the shattered bamboo glass and smoothened the edge. The solo straw fits almost perfectly in my homemade gong, would be perfect with a little silicone. Worked great with my hydratube.

@blackstone I thought the Vortex stems would be difficult to clean but that wasn't the case. You remove the screen and use a q-tip, it fits in there OK.

Don't go back to combusting, check out the Arizer Air, awesome little vaporizer. A nice log vape might be good to add to your vaporizing collection. Also a vapor genie might be something that you might like too, it's like a pipe.

You will have to do some reading since this is the Solo thread. I don't want to be disrespectful to the Solo. You could always buy another Solo.

Hmmm, now you've got me thinking. Some good suggestions there too, I had been looking at those log vapes but never thought of an Air or another Solo. Interesting! And I was disscussing that VG with an Iolite fan who doesn't like the thought of having to depend on batteries or electricity, also interesting!

I just found that the Air had a bit too much airflow in comparison and diluted the clouds, which is great for someone with lung sensitivity. I don't like the pvhes stems for this reason either.

I just had a shorty turbo model and I would not recommend it for someone with lung sensitivity.
Quite the opposite in fact! I don't think I can even replicate that level of irritation with a stock stem. Perhaps it's only the non turbo models that are airy?

Well, having broken my shorty turbo the other day:
S2xNfAQ.jpg

3 days later I was heading out one evening with my straight stock stem in the PVHES carry tube, and that fell from my pocket on to bathroom floor. "that''ll be fine" I thought, "It's in the tube", but couldn't help thinking that it sounded a bit too "clinky" when it landed!

So it is possible to break a stock stem in one of those tubes!

Now that I'm depending solely on one bent stem, I decided I need to treat myself a small bit, and just need to make up my mind which to use the budget on:

1. An Arizer Air (or Solo) stem, plus 10x of those dome screens (as @OF posted 2 pages back)

2. A straight shorty turbo again

3. A straight shorty Vortex (@CarolKing has me nearly sold on this one! But option 1 still seems attractive)

Which would you go for??!

What are some recommendations for GonG for the solo? Also, I was thinking of buying maybe a d020 or one of stevenlmz79's matrix perc bubblers. Is all the extra diffusion good or bad in this case?
Thanks guys- we are loving the solo!!
Planetvape has theirs but they sell out quick. Randy at puffitup has the Solo/Air GonG's as well on his site, but be warned that the one I got wasn't a tight fit at all (even with the o-ring) and could easily slip out of my Solo if I tilted it upside down. I was using it through my bong and clearing it, so I pulled the Solo up expecting the GonG to stay put (since it's loose) and the damn thing decided to go up with the Solo and then drop as soon as it wasn't on the bong anymore, and broke. Pretty sure it would be a decent fit for the Air considering it has a 3-part seal around where the stems go (Solo has 1 and it loosens up over time). Also on puffitup are Joda Glassworks GonG's, they'll cost you a bit more but are carbed and worked glass. And then also what OF and Carol have mentioned.

You don't want too much diffusion as it strips the flavor but it's your call. Less diffusion gives more flavor but can be a bit harsher than something with more diffusion that cools the hit down more. The kinda stuff you want to avoid is excessive points of percolation, if you have a beaker that goes to a honeycomb that goes to a showerhead that's a lot of diffusion. Downstem of the beaker is 1, the honeycomb would be the 2nd point, and the showerhead is point 3 of diffusion. Terpenes (give it taste and have medical benefits of their own) are water-soluble so the more water you expose them to the less of then you get in the end. I don't feel that the matrix percs are too much diffusion myself but other people feel differently.

Nobody knows what it like to be hated! "song by the WHO!

Anyway I had a curved stem of GSC and I don't understand why you would use something else?

Is it some EGO dis-function?

Since you remind me of Nieche!

The Solo has been the perfect companion to have on our RV this past summer. With its quick heat up time and quick charge it's ready at a minutes notice. I'm glad I had it with me when medicating was a must. I used it more than the Enano because I couldn't leave it plugged in all the time.

I've had times where I've wanted to medicate during the middle of the night, when I've had a lot of pain. The Solo works out well during those occasions. Since I don't have to worry about a cord it gives me the freedom that I need. I can just take the Solo in bed with me.

If you are a recreational user or a medical this unit is very dependable.

this is good imo because your not paying extra for fancy packaging that you just toss in garbage anyways
I agree, in some ways I guess it makes it easier to sell also, as it's not like you have damaged fancy packaging while opening the device, that has now lost resale value because of it!

I would also like to note that this is the least smelly vape I have so far come across OOTB.

Yes it has a faint smell of 'newness', but nothing like my Titans or Davinci.

OK, the smell increases as I am performing the dry run 'burn offs', I guess the final proof will be in the tasting later this evening :brow:

My least favourite thing... breaking in a new vape!

Mine has just arrived :)

Packaging is a little industrial (a brown box?), but sooo looking forward to getting home from work tonight and taking this bad boy for a test drive!

more company's could learn from arizer and focus on a quality product than fancy packaging that out shines all others :2c:

Agreed. IIRC it's got two foam cutout things that hold the goods in place and no excessive packaging. The manual is a bit lacking and not the best to be honest, but Arizer and also Magic Flight among others keep packaging materials down to a minimum. I know I've gotten too many packages with packing peanuts or other crap, or smaller stuff with really fancy packaging and stuff individually wrapped and extra fluff on the packaging and presentation materials and it ends up I throw everything away except for what I actually bought. Things that come in a protected backage, bubble wrapped, held in place in a plastic container, in a presentation package envelope box type thing, and inside a glass container with a cork, the bottom of it lined with shredded paper, and inside a glass container (ejuice), surrounded by more shredded paper to keep from any glass-on-glass contact. I and pretty much everybody else that reviewed it agreed that it wasn't even that good, and expensive for what it was, and even more expensive than it should have been considering the excessive packaging (which I'm sure played into the price we paid). I think I still have the box full of bubble wrap from other purchases, ready to put stuff in and ship away. The thin cardboard and other stuff in the Solo box is easily recyclable.

@1DMF, there is that "newness" smell with it, yeah. I believe it's just from the plastic bags and packaging, if you smell it the smell is quite strong on them. Perhaps unscrew the top to help vent any stale air? Nothing bad will happen and you won't void your warranty. Also make sure to charge it all the way before you start using the battery!! It will take a little bit to get that smell out but once it's gone it's gone and you won't have to fight it randomly or whatever. Medium grind, put a screen in the stem (5/8" screen makes a dome screen, 1/2" sits flat inside but gets clogged quicker), and let it heat for 30s more when it reaches temperature to ensure big rips from the first hit!

observation... how are you meant to stand it up and charge it at the same time?

power intake should be on the side of the device not the bottom IMO!

OK, the Da Vinci charge is in the bottom also, but as it doesn't have a flat base and is designed to lay on its side, you aren't expected to stand it up anyway.

I have seen some complaints that the Ascent doesn't stand up, making it difficult to load, but it seems the same can be said about the Solo when using while plugged in (which is meant to be an added feature in the newer models).

Step in the right direction, but needs improving so it can be on charge and stand up at the same time.

I'd be careful with 'apples and oranges' here. While with Ascent you load the bottom of the unit, with Solo/Air you LOAD A STEM. Where the vape is, and how it's 'standing or not' doesn't matter in loading.

I disagree with the last part, if you're charging I think you should lay it on it's side (so it won't get knocked over). I never leave Air (which has the jack on the side) stand up while charging....too unstable with the cord tending to pull it over.

If you want to charge standing up, PM Pipes for one of his excellent stands.
