Rosin Technique....Easy DIY Solventless

My question is, is this actually 48u,

According to their chart :
80T/200 is 79u microns if I am reading it right.

If you are making rosin, you can make a small 2" x 2" 25u ss screen, fold it in half with rosin inside, then I fold over the top edge and then the sides to lock it all in. heat to 150-160f and slow press it out. Expect to loose 25% or so in wax but it will be clean for pens.

Yea this is kind of a patient-specific situation. Moms has bad nausea spells and the juice pen has been the only solution that ticks all the right boxes so far. Always looking for better ways, but her dexterity issues preclude most easy answers.
The use (or not) of solvents isn't something I think about too much, for better or worse lol, but really rosin and QWISO are all I feel competent making, and both need cleaning to atomize in ecig gear

I'll try any experiment that anyone wants performed...whole buds, ground, screen, no screen, etc... once I get my damn dnail press that is :|

I've got a bunch of mid grade bud to mess around with so as soon as I get the press in ill let everyone know and then more science can begin :science:

Which batch are you in? I think you ordered in July so hopefully the first one. Can't wait to see your results with it! I can't imagine waiting 4 months though, I'm getting my Pollen Master on Monday and the wait is killing me and it's only been 3 weeks. I think I have my new QWET tek all mapped out now, just missing the key element to test it in practice. Also missing a rosin press for pressing the kief when I have it, consumer options are slowly popping up so hopefully it won't be too long. All the DIY builds in this thread are awesome but I lack the skills, tools, temperament and time to start fucking with wires.

I ordered mine end of july and am 30ish in line, it's only been 2 months but seems like an eternity when the end isn't in sight...I've got 64, 75, and 84 boveda packets to start experimenting with moisture content as soon as I have something that can do more consistent temps and pressure.

Not sure! I ordered mine July 21st. I think that was the day of or day after it was released. I hope I'm in the first batch :brow:

So it has only been about 2 months. Not too bad. I've waited longer for other things. The way I tolerate it is forget about it and buy other things in the meantime to keep me occupied lol.

Like the SiC nail and these Pocono Aluminum Frame Screens

I also got a LG portable A/C 8,000 btu unit so I can get my tent down to 62F to sift in :)

So are pucks on the outs now with vise/clamp tech? Only pucks for the t-shirt style press?

I don't think there is a set rule of thumb here but for me, if I presquish my pucks with a pollen type press first, it flattens out the coin to large thin puck anyways. This is putting stress on the parchment and seems to make darker oil from excessive travel I think..

If I shape my nugs with my fingers to a tootsie roll size and flatten a bit, that seems to go easiest on the parchment and I get lighter colored rosin for my 1"x2" jaws.

With a hairpress for me, it was be better presquishing because I never had the pressure to flatten a puck out like I can now to .050" or so..

I think @farscaper preferred presquishing nugs with a pollen press for his gecko for the same reasons.

Edit @herbivore21
Dug through my best looking ABV chunks and pressed them for you. It came out pretty dark!

@Copacetic @2clicker. Top is ground, bottom is same bud unground. Same heat, same time, ground looks much darker.

Booyah , finally some success .
1st pic is just one press ,
2nd pic is re-press , which seemed to produce more yield .

in brief ,
I took the advice of giving it some room to
bleed out , and harder pressing with the c-clamp .
10 seconds presses with moist buds using the flat iron .
Placed it closer to the edge of the heated plates .

Thank you everyone for your info .
I'm off to taste my experiment ...

ahh that yellow mesh... a good high mesh count. good for high detail and halftone printing.

im ready to start my vise project, but cannot decide on the iron yet. is anyone aware of an adjustable dial model with SS plates? i know i can get SS sheets to adapt to the ceramic plates, but if i dont have to i would prefer not to. otherwise i have it down to a small list of a a few models.

now i need to start checking out the Bovoda stuff. pretty sure the flowers ive got currently are a tad dry for pressing.

My friend picked up one of these to get his ac down in the 40s. First I had heard of it. Pricey but worth checking out if your a serious sifter.

@Joel W. Looks like your hitting high enough pressures to warrant use of a pressing screen with flower.

That coolbot looks like a great idea but it only works with window ac units and mine is a portable single hose which doesn't work with it :(

@Joel W. Thanks for the reply and thanks for doing that experimentation. I think I might refrain from making pucks and just arrange the nugs. My first press was with a decent sized bud and the oil went to the edge of the parchment (using the c-clamp Milwaukee vice grip/wood clamp/removed hair straightener heating plates/epoxy filled/etc) and I used a screwdriver in the adjustment area to really crank it. So you guys with the @Been Vapin style press (like what I described) are saying leave the open edge of the parchment outside the plates and press off center?

I know this isn't anything special in the thread, but the story behind it is. A few days ago, I was outside watering and tending to stuff, and in pulling a few leaves I somehow managed to bring a little developing node with it  After some careful trimming and a semi-fast non-heated drying process... I managed to squish this out. This is the first rosin dab I will take from something I started from a simple seed (Jack Frost x ???) :luv: The girl is still at least another 4 weeks out I think... so I'll be interested to see what kind of effects if any I get. Also the cloudy bit at the top was from the press, it was like a milky but clear-ish yellow, probably terpenes and water content.

I tried this a while back with a hairpress and just 50u ss screens and fused the bud into the screens. I am probably missing something though.. How is it done?

Simply wrap 25u nylon pressing screen around puck or nug to make a pouch similar to pressing hash. I have no experience with SS screens.

About to dive in to my favorite type of rosin, live rosin. Just did a dab of it and it was so fucking amazing I actually did a little dance after exhaling.

@BoogerMan , I press until the rosin stops flowing into the cooler parchment (20-60 seconds) where it is safe from the heat outside my jaws. The time is dependent on nug density and rosin flow. There is hardly anything in my second presses now and what's there, is always much darker and not really worth it for me.

@Been Vapin So that is no cure, straight off the plant? Looks awesome!
