Hey Zion10, with all this talk about button placement, can you talk a bit about the button feel? Do you have any doubts you could feather the heat as you like w/ your pinky?

It's actually a pretty phenomenal trigger, very durable, with great feel/feedback and super easy to push, very minimal effort, but secure enough to not happen accidentally (and there will be safety switch here, or remove battery, for that risk). I don't think there would be any problem using a pinky, or even your whole hand closed around it since there's no bevel here. With Zion I'd switch between pointer and thumb too, probably used middle finger once or twice, maybe even the ring finger.
...ummm verasatile? :horse:

Alright so the Zion is out for now for us Aussies! Time to get off at the next station and jump straight on the connecting 18mm unreg single bat train. Choooo choooo!

Just wondering, will have to put my money down on either of the two Unregs given the Zion and international shipping. Anyone know which of the two, single and daul bats I'd be more likely to receive first of paid for now? From what I gather there are more single bat betas being tested than dual?

Also is there an option to pay more and beta test?

Mod note: Asking to beta test is not allowed.

There are actually no betas of either yet, just prototypes. I'd say single first, but I'm biased so we just don't know yet bud. All aboard!

Asofnow it is a beta test for all, technically (hence international shipping), but there is no more room on the beta beta team. Sorry :ugh:

Haha shittttttttt I'll never gets me a Zion at this rate! Least the hammer will be glad it still has a role! Ha

Fuck it just ordered one, hopefully these come first! Ha.
Also rasta if you happen to be reading this, I'll happily pay the price of a second unit and receive the one to join team beta beta.
The more I look at these things the more it becomes clear that this is not the usual "I want that so bad" obsession. More a matter of, I need this in my life! And once it is in my life I'll instantly be sadened that it wasn't in the previous 22 years!

Gooooo zion!

I was well aware of my vas and fully expected a life times worth of it, but I'm pretty sure one of the Zion range could at least slow it down a little! Could it be the cure? Depending on how many units in the line I guess... Might be cured once you catch them all? Then there is different wood of course! Ohhhh god!

As a fellow Aussie I can only concur. This vape (along with a Zion) is required in my life & I am teetering on taking a gamble on this & trying to forget about it post preorder. The idea of such a versatile heavy hitter in my palm is ridiculously appealing.

We've given a couple of people passes in this thread now for asking to beta test since the manufacturer asked for testers early on.

However, that period has passed. Our rules clearly state:

  • Do not ask about being a beta tester or ask about freebies.
There will be no further breaks given. Anyone who asks to beta in the future will be given a warning point.

Unknown amount of time to wait (and very happy to participate in this beautifully transparent, lean manufacturing process, plz take all the time you need, patience is easy when I know why I'm waiting), so I'm wondering about my expectations. I'm a pre-order here and a backer on the Grasshopper, so what am I hoping to get? & what kind of customer am I?

- portable - I just want one daily driver that goes w/ me, prefer smaller devices
- convection for flowers - obvious choice, flavor and efficiency
- simple materials & design - I love glass, metal, and wood and a simple, precise, manufactured aesthetic
- freedom from sessioning! (ie portable power)
--- for myself, I want to be able to cash a .1 gram bowl in 2-4 hits
--- for my combustion friends, I want quick results

I think that's it. The Grasshopper seems to offer a lot of this, but at the expense of complexity and form-over-function heat management. Could the single battery Zion be the answer? I'm hopeful.

Battery caps simple but effective, the Zion has a large rear door on magnets I wonder which direction the single and the TOD will take.

You just know the black knurled version is the safest bet

IMO this might just turn out to be the most versatile of all of RBT's line up. It might have the opportunity to go from a little wine tasting sippy type feel to a hand grenade your about to set off in your lungs. All depends on how you power it. I might be speaking out of turn because a ton of testing needs to be done before the true range will be known. This is more of my wish list I guess.

That sounds like a nice idea @HD Springer.
For me personally I tend to be the 'wine tasting sippy type'.
On occasion tho I do quite enjoy a straight to the point knee buckler.
Hopefully the testing on the unreg'd single will prove useful with the reg'd one's future development.

Agreed, this is why I've been wondering if @RastaBuddhaTao is experimenting with different batteries other than the listed ones with this. It seems this could make a bigger difference with this unit than the others.

Honestly magnetic doors is the best option hands down.
The knurled would be decent, I like the idea of a plug.
But threads are a bad idea, even with superior quality hardware stripping can always occur. I have owned a vaporflask which was the first temperature control ecig with 2 18650s, and there was issues with the threads being aligned wrong when batteries were inside(cap would not sit flush). The coin slot for those were ok it's just a pain to unscrew every time you change batteries. You have to slide the threads back and forth to insure you don't grind the thread And I'm guessing one might switch a battery out 1-2 times a day on these. In a year your looking at close to 1000 times the cap was screwed then unscrewed. If a small part like this stopped me from vaping rbts new product I would probably cry.

@LBsEveryday I suggested the knurled as you can bet someone would lose a thread plug. I agree on the worry of crossed threads and the problems fine threads can become. I like the top left picture it's a good course pitch so no cross threading and I quite like the double brass one just out of simplicity.

Agh I was at work on my mobile hehe I didn't notice the threading on that first one, it seems solid. A nice stainless steel would work well I would think. I also like the idea of the sliding door aswell, But with wood I would worry that the edges will get worn from use and start to not fit as flush. But that's just extreme speculations lol(I'm sure a door replacement is cheap but if the unit itself get worn down you would have to send it in most likely). If the door was another material that would work but, people tend to love their mostly wood pieces, maybe a translucent window of some sort but the need to see your batteries is gimmicky as there is no way gauge battery power besides testing how the heating element is getting juice.
How ever this comes out(perfect), I'm sure the beta testers will work out all the kinks on this one. Since it's the most simplistic IMO(this is the one that really catches my eye ATM).

I don't think you are speaking out of turn if you are talking about the possibility of maybe being able to run stacked batteries, or other battery possibilities.
Below is a quote snip from the man himself earlier in the thread.

I am not sure if this is set in stone yet, but it sure would be sweet!
Even without the kit, TOD like performance should be possible with a long enough preheat.
Although not tuned to run like the TOD you will be able to buy a TOD kit that will contain a spacer required to run two 18350's nearly doubling the available power... That one is for you HD and any of our customers that want to grip it and rip it TOD style.

As of now, I believe it is going to stick with the one 18650 in the end, for simplicity sake, and bc this unit may have already been supercharged enough to cover it with one

I'm perfectly fine with that. By controlling the preheat time, feathering button, and inhalation speed, this unit should be able to give users whatever vaping style they want. It will just take practice.

That's the beauty of a manual unit, it's all up to the users technique.
I definitely feel the RBT lineup will give users the best bang for their buck in today's market.

Has there been any talk about how the battery will be contained? Will it continue to be exposed or will there be a cover of some sort that will streamline the body?
