Discontinued Zion vaporizer

Putin is a War Criminal
Shipping WILL BEGIN in October. There have been enough changes since beta that RBT is going to send the first batch to us so we can give them a go to be sure RBT's closeness to the process hasn't blinded him to something we might see. I doubt it. RBT is the shits. :)

This change will delay delivery a little, but not much. I would be really shocked if something is wrong, but RBT wants to be sure. He wants to avoid errors we've seen in other rollouts.

Then Zions start shipping to customers. This should happen very soon. I would bet money customers will have ZIONs by mid month. Not everybody, but I would also bet that all outstanding ZION orders will be filled in Oct and Nov. Course, I don't know how many orders there are so I MIGHT be wrong but I DO know how anxious RBT is to get Zions in your hands.

And then back to the next 2 vape designs.:drool: :)

I contemplated a few times posting something negative about the Zion, maybe out of a contradictory spirit or I don't know... Everyone is so happy, it makes it sounds like it's the perfect device, the Holy Grail! And we don't even have the finished product in our hands with the extra polish and details...

But so far, I found pretty much nothing important to report... I was for instance tempted to say, that it might not be well suited for people enjoying sipping and small hits, as it tends due to its free-flowing air path to require larger inhalations. And it's true that this vape invites you to go big as it's very generous, and furthermore, because it is really able to follow you and deliver.

It doesn't mean you can't take small hits. In fact, I feel like a miniature man when I read the other testers inhalation times! I just measured my average time with the Zion and it's between 5 and 10 seconds of continuous inhalation (but more often closer to 5 than to 10) and of course I hit it dry all the time. No water/glass filtration of any kind.

So yes, I can confirm that it works, but... it's inefficient, energy-wise. And using it this way I'm not getting as many bowls per battery set compared to the above reported values. But let's not forget that we can't make any direct comparison: Ashton is an alpha Zion and is not working on the same voltage as the production units, it has a different heater configuration and materials, and on top of that I'm using 2500mAh's cells (vs 2900 for most others) Giving you any figure would be pointless, but it's considerably lower.

The inefficiency stems from the fact that every hit comes with the pre-heat time penalty. Put simply, if you need to pre-heat say 5 seconds before each hit, it's more efficient to inhale 10 seconds in one hit rather than taking two 5 seconds hits each with a 5 seconds pre-heating. And everytime you are not hitting it, it cools down. The more you wait, the more pre-heat you will need next time. The time it took me to write this paragraph for instance will make me need to do a long pre-heat again, almost like a cold start.

The few times were I completely drained my cells down to not getting any vapor anymore from the device, was when I was distracted and not focused on what I was doing with Ashton. Like reading forums, with a movie playing in the background and doing internet shit... You know... If you stretch the session too long with the Zion, you are not going to get that many bowls out of a charge. I bet you could possibly drain a full set by stretching a single bowl over a couple hours...

But you see it's not really a problem per se, and even less a Zion specific one. All battery powered portable units have the same issue. It's just worth noting at least, and kinda frustrating because it's so good to know that whenever you put it down on the table, it's not going to spoil your bowl for more than a few seconds, as the conduction heating is practically inexistant. Meaning it's tempting to really drive it at your own pace, and be as laid back as you want, with you being in control of the device, not the inverse.

There is one thing that I can blame the Zion for though, and I kinda secretly hate @RastaBuddhaTao for it: Ashton simply spoiled me, plain and simple! I used to be perfectly happy with my vaporizers, and bam, the guy crossed my door, he installed his base camp on my living room table, and in no time he managed to make himself essential and dependable. I thought at first he was too strong for me, knocking me down everytime violently. I decided to leave him at home and reserve our conversations for late at night before bed time...

That's pretty much how it started. Everytime we interacted, such a "wow" effect. So powerful. So easy... Too easy. That's the problem. It's a lure... Because one day you wake up, go outside with your smaller portables, which you used to love until that day, and you realize... that they don't satisfy you anymore. They leave you half craving... And you understand you are hooked, but it's too late... Curse you RBT! :p

Milaana. Lana. LANA. LANAAAA! (TM2/TP80/BAK/FW9)
I'm actually getting anxious about this vaporizer. So excited I'm anxious and feel like buds aren't worth it until it arrives, well on the go that is. At home the underdog will be there for me ALWAYS, so the zion is exactly what my collection needs. The mighty just sits in the box now. I use the firefly but it doesn't pack enough ooomph lately. Prob needs new battery.... I've been using more oil than ever between the drought of QUALITY buds around here, and the knowledge that I want to vape with full convection only. I need a zion in my life, then I can wait patiently for the single battery unit, and actually start using buds again.

Haha yeah, know the feeling. Got a replacement new Firefly to help while Zions out, and damn not even close, makes me miss Zig even more... Underdog and Lily really do seen to be only ones who can keep up, and they have their own limitations (Elevape to an extent, but different experience).

Not having great herbs becomes more noticeable with Zion, can really tell bc it gets whatever it can from em, and its just not as much as the higher quality herbs did, effect and taste. I notice it in FF too, but not at the same level exactly. Zions the best way to experience a strain for me now, a blessing and a curse!

I was going to be happy with just a Grasshopper, but there's no way I'm waiting until Dec (at the earliest). Just placed my order, even happier that I got it for this price AND the insurance of the lifetime warranty.

Question, is this shipping early October? Will I be placed on some backlog and have to wait longer because I just preordered?

I guess it comes down to, when are they going to start shipping and have they made enough to fulfill the preorders?

There are many many many bodies made, internals and getting it all together is what's happening now. This is a small operation, like mostly one guy with various helpers kinda small, so its going to be a few at first, the testers (who are paying customers too by the way...) are first in line as a beta tester should be, but given everything we've experienced so far it should be a smooth roll out. RBT will be able to increase productivity steadily, just churning em out for all of you throughout October. Of course it's impossible for everyone to get theirs on October first, especially current pre orders could end up November depending on the final number, and more orders will keep coming in even more when production does get rolling, but its still one at a time more or less. It won't be like GH, once we give a thumbs up it'll be full force churn baby churn! But its not like there's hundreds of completed vaporizers sitting around waiting to ship out when October hits. Everything is on track thus far though, to be in full production by October.

Haha yeah Kero!

My on demand pure convection vapes killed me for cheap session conduction (like those FMs you like...) before Zion, but Ziggy was really their nail in the coffin, and he almost killed my other convection units! Production version could spell trouble for the VAS collection at chez Snacks... It's easily been the ultimate way to enjoy herbs for me

And regarding low temp, and small hits, remember Kero has the earliest ubut after Pak and Sticks, with the glass insulator. Mica was used instead starting with cybr I believe specifically to enhance performance at lower temps, and believe me it works wonders. I am a temp stepper, and Zion handles that style beautifully. You can stay low, or start high, slow sip, or deep gulp, I've done it all with Ziggy despite my relatively weak lung power. I also used dry the most, whip out bubblers for weekend zonking, on demand, sessioned, I really can't say versatile enough, can I?

hello again~ I was going to order this bubbler from dh
http://www.dhgate.com/store/product/2014-new-matrix-sidecar-glass-bong-birdcage/214701656.html
and have no experience with adapters/gongs, was wondering if someone is planning to have the same/similar setup and which adapters should I be looking into?
still super excited. this will be my first vape-bubbler exp, coming from mflb+pa for two and a half years.
I believe you will want an 18.8mm m/m adapter. I have the same piece (sans logo, of course) and it should mate nicely with the Zion. I plan on mating the two myself.

This is a V.1 so yours will have a better perc lower in the can.

Ask the vendor you are getting it from for a Male2Male instead of a bowl or other crappy nail.

Or order one from @Oregonglassblower and tell him it's for the Zion.

That IS what you want, tho the picture is of a 18M to 14M. If you are gonna spend that much for it definitely get it from Mike. He will custom it however you like. Have him make it an inch longer, for some circumstance you may need that.

But, if you CAN get to Steven before he ships you can probably get it if free or very cheap.

that looks awesome! and yes that is a good idea, I think I will hold off on ordering the adapters from there (i just asked if i could get the gong instead of bowl/nail, fingers crossed) and contact that individual ifwhen that doesn't go through. oh my i'm so stoked. it's been years since i've hit a bong, and never really got into the whole mflb to bubbler thing because of all the extra proprietary costs. the way that i'm seeing the zion and the bubbler is two separate things that on their own is functional and just as great, but compliment each other rly well too. I just saw this on the site and thought to ask about if he could make one like this with the carb cap thing but male to male. anyone have this set up already? i feel like this and the zion and any bubbler would make the three best friends.

I think something like that, male - male with little glass shotty. But bigger, maybe tennis ball size in the middle. Seems when it comes to glass the Zion needs some realestate. I'm thinking something large but not bong shaped. Maybe a steam roller type set up? Nice dry cloud chamber.

Ha ha ha! Nice try Kero! Nice try.

I thought "oooooooooooooh" when I started reading your post, but by the end I was like "ahhhhhhhhh"!

So funny.

But drain a fully charged pair of batteries on a single bowl?! Maybe with Ashton, but I would be very doubtful that it's possible with Johnny.

Everyone is so happy
I know, isn't it awful?! There must be something we can do about that! ;)

I've thought multiple times during this thread after people say they've ordered: "Dude, you're getting a Zion." But I'm not sure that it works for this situation. :bang:

What about: "Improving your vaping experience" or "Improving your herbal experience"?

Then again, the other phrase I've thought about while reading this thread is "Wake me up when September ends..." :freak:
