Has anyone tried a Haze 4 piece grinder?

Below here is my SCS method for usage.
..................

Question from me. Someone has gifted me a Haze 4pc grinder. How might it differ from my Medium SCS? I am already can get 3 grind profiles with what I am using. with my method.
Never owned a nice grinder with the diamond teeth.

How do you like the Haze? How does it compare to your SCS?

Are these ugly things any good
Meh, they'll get the job done, but they don't have enough (torque?) so If your bud is anything but super dry, you'll get a nug wedging itself between the plastic chamber wall, and the blade, so you need to open the chamber for a second to let everything dislodge itself or the blade won't spin :(

I got a pack of 4 on eBay for like 18 bucks on ebay a few years ago.
My mates enjoyed them more than having to use scissors, but I just kept getting annoyed at how often they'd jam up...
I'd give me like a 5/10
(And my 2pce SCS gets a solid 9/10 :D)

EDIT: @Nazz1 Here is a pic of the grinder I was talking about, which I think is probably pretty much the same thing as the Haze grinder.

This grinder is horrible. It sucks at grinding. It takes forever for herbs to fall through the holes. Although there is a magnet on the piece with the bottom teeth, it doesn't do anything (I suppose because the part it contacts is aluminum). Also, because of the magnet, the lid doesn't fit right.

This is my second grinder. It is the grinder I used before purchasing my first Santa Cruz Shredder. Which means for the several months I used this thing, I just didn't know. There was no way for me to know how horrible this grinder is. (My first grinder is just as bad; the propane tank grinder.)

Although I paid $25 for it at a headshop, it wouldn't sell for $5 on the internet. In fact, it's not even marketable on the internet. The only people who would ever actually buy this grinder are people in my situation, who don't know anything about grinders but want a new one right now.

I have a grinder that was selling for $5.99 on Amazon last time I looked (Bo-Bo Head). The Bo-Bo Head grinder is infinitely better than this grinder. And the Bo-Bo Head is so cheap that the Amazon seller sent me three more for free just because I reported a metal shaving in my review.

If anyone needs a really cheap grinder, I would totally recommend the Bo-Bo Head grinder. Aside from the metal shaving I found, this thing is actually pretty good. The graphic is cheap, and most people probably hate it, but the grinder works very well (and the graphic comes off). Also, it's $5.99.

It is a shitty grinder but FWIW the reason the top does not fit right is because the round magnet is supposed to be in the lid (where your debris from previous grinds is built up). Clean that lid out, remove the round magnet from the center of the middle section, and glue or epoxy that thing back in the lid where it ought be- make sure you get your polarity right or they will push apart.

For a permanent fix, use a good epoxy or CA because you will need a glue stronger than the magnet.

I actually considered that when I was looking at it this morning, but I thought the magnet was glued to the post. Having just messed around with it for a second, I now see that the magnet is actually stuck to the post, magnetically.

I think I will clean the top part and glue the magnet to it today. Still, this grinder sucks, and I will almost certainly never use it again.

Also, I still plan to respond to your question about grinding upside down. Here's a preview of what I intend to say:

Before I started grinding right-side-up recently, I pretty much always did it upside down. No one taught or told me to do that. I did it because the grinder pictured in my previous post sucks, and because I didn't know almost every grinder is infinitely better than that one.

I suspect that's the same reason why a lot of other people grind upside down. Because when I grind right-side-up in a Santa Cruz Shredder 4-piece (probably not including the mini size), it comes out just about as fine as I want it, and it only takes a few seconds. If my first grinder had been an SCS, it probably never would've occurred to me to grind upside down.

Anyone know if it's OK to reclaim weed that has soaked in acetone (while cleaning a grinder)?

Does anybody have experience with the Kannastor Gr8tr grinders? I was about to buy a ScS, but the Gr8tr Vape grinder really has my attention now

I got the grinder that's similar to the Haze grinder fixed up, with the magnet glued in the right place. It's about twice as good as it was this morning, but it's still a fucking shitty piece of shit. Doesn't even have an O-ring. I can't imagine the Haze grinder being any better.

I ground a 0.7 g nug in my small matte orange 4-piece SCS today, right-side-up. As might be expected, this stuff came out a little bit finer than when I ground 0.3 g in the same grinder. Very nice, consistent grounds.

Silly SCS sizing structure, it's the middle one, I'd call it the medium, but they only have mini, small, and large?
So I have the small?
It's a slightly larger diameter than the solo.

I'm thinking of upgrading to a large 2pce, since I usually find myself grinding up 2-3 loads at a time with my current one.

So I ordered a Cali Crusher Homegrown off Massdrop before they stopped having vape related drops and I wanted to talk about it here since people might actually read it here instead of the comment section on MD.

The Cali is a really nice grinder, but it's just not good enough imo. I also have a Space Case, that was my first grinder I bought (also from MD), and it just grinds finer, fits more, and the pollen catcher is actually just for pollen. A lot of extra fine weed will pass through the Cali's screen, so the large pollen catcher on it will be really full after grinding up a 1/4th. I imagine if I bought the Cali first I would have been fine with it, it does what it should well enough and I really like how much space there is for loading stuff in there, but compared to the Space Case I just feel like it was a wasted ~$61. I guess the Space Case is really all I'll need.

I have a question for people who have been obsessed with grinders for longer than I have (or anyone who just knows more than me about grinders, which could be anyone): Are some (cheap) grinders die-cast?

I have grinders that appear to be made in three different ways: 1) CNC grinders, which are obviously made from a single piece of metal; 2) Grinders that appear to be made from different pieces of metal; and 3) Two very cheap grinders, which appear to be cast from a mold (like the grinder I pictured yesterday, which appears similar to the Haze grinder).

I don't even know what CNC means. I have an idea, but I really don't know. I'm pretty sure I have read what the acronym means, but that doesn't tell me anything about what "CNC" really means. (I don't think most of the people who use that acronym know what it means, either.)

Yes I've seen some really cheap looking grinders with rough internals that I also assumed were die cast.

CNC is just computer aided design & manufacture (computer numerical control).
Basically a computer is given the dimensions of your project which then controls a router to cut out the shape of the design.

What I don't get is why some CNC grinders are crap. I mean, you basically have two options with these machines, right? 1) Tell it to make the grinder in your head, or 2) Tell it to make the grinder in your head, except also tell it to fuck up the teeth and/or threading.

Description #1 seems to fit my Santa Cruz Shredders, Space Cases, and Diamond Grind for the most part (and probably even the puffitup grinder). But I have at least one grinder that seems to fit description #2 (the grinder that came with my Aromed). It's very similar to a small 2-piece Space Case, but the teeth are nowhere near as precisely shaped, or as sharp. In other words, it seems half-assed. But if all you have to do to make thousands of perfect grinders is program the machine once, then how can anyone make a crappy grinder with a CNC machine?

Assuming the design is good.

The world is full of shitty engineers.. at least with CNCing if they feck up teh design .. they can reprogram the machine.. the plastic grinders need a big tool to inject the plastic into .. if u get those wrong ur in trouble

But u be amazed how many people design crap.. I mean there is a lot of work needed to get a product manufactured .. do these guys not actually grind weed.. maybe test their products

I'd say alot of this plastic stuff is made in China.. you can't get weed in China.. they are probably testing it on bamboo and rice ;-)

I think I get what you're saying, and I think it's what I already thought. Basically it's the same thing as making a bad pizza. If your design for a pizza is bad (recipe, bake time/temp, etc.), or if you just don't try very hard, the pizza will be bad. Similarly, if your design for a grinder is bad, or if you just don't try very hard, the grinder will be bad.

(That pizza in my profile pic was a good pizza.)

I think it's also a lack of prototyping/testing, just a short one-off run for the cheapies so no extra expense is allowed to test said design. If it's good do another run--if not give them away with crappy vapes.

@Aimless Ryan - I'm from the UK but bagged myself one of the 'Large' 70mm Cosmic Case Rasta grinders. Honestly one of the best purchases I've made.
I've also got a Rasta Phoenician Medium (60mm) on its way too, and will be doing a bit of a write up/ video about it.

In the meantime, some more thoughts on my Cosmic Case grinder... an excellent piece of kit, and after 6 months of use, zero cleaning whatsoever, there's very little 'additional force' needed to grind, it's only slightly harder than when it was brand new.

There are some sections in the grinder where the kief builds up, but it's not a major problem. What gets stored in the next grind usually means some of the other stuff previously gets pushed down. See the pictures (looks worse looking at it now, with the flash on).

The "squiggly diamond" teeth (that's what I call 'em) perform really well and don't feel to have lost any of their sharpness, or have bent in any way or look chipped or deformed in any way. They grind in a way similar to the SCS when ground normal-way-up, but upside-down can produce some really fine results.

I would have liked the black fourth section, as with the Phoenician and SCS grinders, but I'm not that much of a fusspot. The Lion of Judah is enough to make me happy with the CC's colour scheme.

Will be interesting to compare to the Phoenician that I should be receiving this week.

I ordered a Kannastor vape gr8tr a little while ago (15% off labor day sale brought it to $60+shipping), and I finally got to try it last night. So far, I'm really impressed!

Packaging: Pretty slick.
bR5TJfC.jpg

5um0p6h.jpg

Assembled: Probably about the same size as a 4-pc SCS
glA4nXx.jpg

Grind: I really like the grind - finer than the SCS/SC, but not as fine as the MFLB finishing grinder. Super consistent, though. It also doesn't require any grinding upside down and then flipping. Just drop it in, close the lid, and turn. Too early to say, but I suspect being able to keep this grinder upright at all times may help keep it from getting gunked up.
gkS1cN0.jpg

Gr8tr, SCS, and SC: Teeth are much shorter and holes are much smaller on the Kannastor. The Kannastor's grinding chamber is the deepest, which I think makes loading a little easier - no worries about bits falling out or anything like that. The grooves on the male part of the gr8tr are supposed to reduce friction and collect gunk - again, too early to comment on whether that's effective, but it seems plausible. The 3-pc SCS bottom is deeper, but the gr8tr's capacity is more than sufficient for me.
YM5Khgs.jpg

Other stuff:
-The Kannastor has extra storage in the top - dunno that I'd ever use this, but it does utilize otherwise wasted space. However, I do like that the black lid can be used with the bottom part of the grinder to create a storage puck.
-These grinders have interchangeable grinder plates, but this model only comes with only the fine one. Not sure I'd bother buying the coarser plate, as this one suits my needs just fine.

@Mulehead I'm really interested to hear what you think about the gr8tr once you get yours!
