FC name = censored ??

Not sure where to post this.

I was at a clinic today and tried to get into FC but censored due to name.
That was the same scenario when home internet went down and I went to the library---censored.

1. Is there any way around this? With f#uck in the name, it gets censored.

2. Any consideration to changing name to just fcombustion?

It sucks to not be able to see FC from public sites

That used to work for me, does it work for you? Now any interior links I click re-direct back to fuckcombustion.com. Used to be able to surf the whole site by IP address. :argh::argh:
You're right! :bang:

I used it in the past and had it noted, but tried now and got redirected...

I tried clicking on links in emails that I got --you have a fc message---that was blocked too.

So it looks like no way to get in as DDave's method no longer works?

It just sucks to not be able to get in!!

tails/TOR is touted to bypass the censorship stuff. I'm sure businesses block naughty sites for good reason on their private network. Or you could just skip using their network altogether and use your own data. A business does not have the time to look at millions of websites to determine which is good or bad. Someone could use a network in an office like that to do all kinds of wicked stuff which could probably get the office in trouble.

Hell, at least we aren't in China!

You might be able to remedy the issue by editing your HOSTS file and hardcoding the IP / domain

The file location on Windows 7 is C: \Windows\System32\drivers\etc

Just be careful and make a backup of the file before editing it in notepad.

I know what you're getting at, but not the entry itself and what it would 'bypass'.

Can you post a sample entry?

Something like...

###.###.#.## www.theamazingherb.com?

@DDave , exactly..

Follow the instructions shown in the header of the file but basically you add a new line to the bottom of the file

IP Address (tab) domain name (enter)

107.161.26.191 fuckcombustion.com
107.161.26.191 www.fuckcombustion.com

This bypasses DNS lookup which *might* be where the ban is being done. No guarantee, but worth a punt!

@1DMF

Ok, this would avoid the DNS lookup. I was going more in the direction of name substitution.

Where I tested, the actual IP was blocked so neither worked.

Hope this does work for some, as no one should be without FC!

Note: don't forget to unhide extensions of known file types or you'll end up with a HOSTS.TXT file and wondering why the changes didn't take effect.

Does TOR do the job for you as others suggested?

Or if you have access to private VPN, you could route traffic through it and get round the problem that way?

I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too

Next time I'm on a public network I am going to try my VPN and report back.

Thanks

sorry to be ignorant on public internet and the word 'fuck' being blocked.... couldn't you just google 'FC' and access the site this way?

edit: or is it the fact 'fuck' is in the browser address (thinking it's a possible porn site?)

I think It is just due to it having Fuck in the browser address it's marked out as an "adult" site. Using the public wifi at the local library you can't even access sites for the likes of big tobacco companies not just porn, it's more like parental control on the wifi.

I am pretty ignorant of computer stuffs though and have no clue what 1DMF or ddave mean by the posts above, all the tech jargon leaves me scratching my head.

Just sayin' I myself ain't computer savvy and I'm darn lucky this thing turns on and works everyday.

To me a pocket protector says 'nerd' and a person in a circus sideshow is a 'Geek', can't stand how even our slang type language is being butchered now in the 21st century.

:myday:

I've never heard of a Geek relating to a circus side show? Now I gotta get a new outfit!!! Scouring the catalogs now...

(Far be it from DDave to ever pass up an opportunity to drop some humor... unless the topic is very serious or not drop-worthy).... ;)

Oh, and my pocket protector does not say "nerd"... it says "dren"... but someone spelled it backwards!!!

Changing the host file didn't help at all. The browser redirects to fuckcombustion as soon as it's able.

I had some offline discussion with the mods, but we couldn't figure out what changed to break this. I suspect there's a hard-coding of the domain name somewhere, but it's all guesswork.

If someone wants to try themselves, there's a program called 'hostman' that makes editing the host file much easier. This has other applications, like blocking malicious or spyware-infected sites (just make the IP 127.0.0.1 for that entry).

...................................................

I wish it could be fixed so as to allow access from public computers.
Could the name be FCombustion and have fuckcombustion appear on a secondary page? Would that get around the censorship?
Sucks to not allow access.

And for the fuck you thread----fuck censorship

Well this domain expires in less than a month, so if you're lucky you can snag it and make it re-direct to anything you want. I kid... ;)

I'm sure the domain auto-renews, but in case not, another to-do for @vtac & co.

If the site is written to use relative paths, there is no reason you can't use a domain alias.

There could be a hit in SEO with the duplicate content filtering, but if the canonical setting is used, this might resolve that issue.

Obviously if the IP of the physical web server is banned, then this won't help.

I think it's liberating having the Fuckcombustion name. I understand issues being able to access the thread though - using the controversial word. I personally think it's an awesome name.
Amen !!! I love it. Bold and unpretentious
