Glad I went with pre-ordering the RBT 18mmUS18650 until the Hopper production is ironed out…

I am sure the GH will change the vaporizer world forever once it proves to be reliable! It really is the ideal vape for me for most situations and scenarios. The one to rule them all! Flame powered vapes excluded… :p

Why is it not perfect?

It gets hot, and I need to let it cool down after 2 or 3 hits. So it's not great in a group setting - its really more of a "personal vape".

What makes it awesome? :)

Great hits, great taste, a less than 5 second warm up time from the time you turn it on until you're hitting it, and stealth. I use it in public places and around people all the time.

I'm also curious as to what you think needs improved. and you paid $99 but now they are $150-200, would you have been happy paying $150-200 for your GH?

It's worth $200 IMO. Not sure I'd go much over $200, but that's more about my own finances than anything else.

The only thing I'd improve - although I don't see how it's physically possible - is the heat situation.

Is it true there's less heat around the heating element than near the mouthpiece? I'm asking this because it seems the heating element is insulated with a special material when you look at pictures. So maybe this insulating material could be used in future hopper version to improve the thermal property of the Hopper which is already ok for personal use or with the silicone tip.

Yes, I think there's more heat (at least on mine) right at the mouthpiece. Which I think makes sense, since there's where all the hot air gets focused and channeled through a small opening. FWIW, I can't use it without the silicone tip.

I agree with most of what your saying. With respect to the heat, I'd say two things, 1. The heat problem is solved by everyone having their own grasshopper. Not to sound too "let them eat cake" or #letthemeatcrawfish, but remember there whole marketing plan for this device is that it is a PERSONAL device. It's not supposed to be shared, everyone is supposed to have their own, which is a different kind of device than is in the market now.

Think for a moment about other shared consumption experiences, drinking, cigarettes ... sure folks tend to do those things in a group but everyone has their own. Cannabis culture became different for a variety of factors but the primary factor being prohibitin as that is a contributor to other "reasons" (rtiual, safety in numbers, high relative cost etc.) why cannabis uniquely involves my mouth touching the same thing as yours.

Full disclosure, I am not a germophobe, rather the opposite, and make no mistake if the strain in your GH is delicious, your GH will be in my mouth ... after I've turned it off and let it chill for a few seconds ...

that said; Having had the experience of being in a GH setting where, everyone had their own cannabis, lots of variety in plentiful supply, and a few GH's (not one for everyone but enough that one was always available) you see why they are reaching for the lowest possible price point for the maximum. If for example you're at a fancy dinner party like this in Boulder: http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/photos/2015/09/kush-and-cocktails-top-chef-weed-pairing-dinner the GH is PERFECT for that situation.

If you have 10 people who have to sneak outside and all try to get high without being noticed standing around in a circle looking sketchy, get a crafty.

Or, all ten of you get a GH and perhaps just take a few quick rips in the bathroom, #Protip: turn the fan on.

The point being, the GH isn't the ideal vape for every situation but it's the perfect vape for the ideal situation. And yes I would have easily payed $200 for it when I think of how much my pax2 and FF cost and if I had gotten the GH first I wouldn't have bought the FF as evidence by I never use my FF anymore.

That said, remember that the alchemy of the GH is the heater, NOT the form factor! That means, this heater could be in ANY form! In a desktop? Maybe? In a larger device with internal cooling a' la crafty? Why not?

With the immediate practical concerns with the "ideal" situation such as you can't just buy 2 GH's for the price of one Crafty because they aren't shipping yet notwithstanding, a year from now when the GH is readily available and maybe in Colorado we have gotten our act together on cannabis consumption lounges/bars/hospitality, not only is the GH going to be ideal, I think it will drive the vape market and I'm really looking forward to what they do next with that tres seis alchemy vape heater!

To be real clear, I have NO IDEA what they are planning in the nerdery but I hope they focus on the second generation portable that is larger with more battery life, I definitely recommend spare batteries for out and about during the day. I usually take about 10-15 rips an hour and a battery usually lasts about 1.5 hrs or 2-3 bowls. Changing the battery is still faster than a pax even warms up, it's just that I'm less concerned with discretion so it would be cool to see what they could do with a larger form factor :-)

Obviously the battery charger - or what ever it might be - doesn't help the QC... Heard from a fellow member who just got his unit along with 3 extra batteries. 2 of em are not working properly... :uhoh:
Unit itself has a backend issue also - the heat dial or connection to the heater are not ok or not having been adjusted. Level 1 heats up really high, even higher than level 5. Can't say more, but I'm sure he will report here when he's got time.
I don't know a lot about producing vaporizers but I would imagine that they would need a charged battery quickly in order to test the units before they go out to the public. I could be wrong about that.

The most important issue right now is quality control not a battery that's fully charged for the customer. I know the company gave that reason for buying the large quantity battery charger. So the reason doesn't make any sense. The company needs to test these bad boys before they go out. Turn them on and see if they work.

A few things I have been playing around with:

A homemade screen removal tool but I found that it's really not necessary to take the screen out of the mouthpiece to get it really clean.... Although, I like to deep clean once and a while but you should be able to get most of it with a good soak and a pipe cleaner.

Introducing the Grass-Alator AKA The Inhal-Hopper..... I took one of my Inhalater capsules and made it skinnier and shorter to fit the GH for fun and it really is quite nice. I am also experimenting with concentrates in the capsule and it should work great, just need a wax cloth like the miVapes for wax/oils and a screen end for dryer concentrates. I can't use the GH mouthpiece with the capsule but its nice for a change instead of using the same old metal mouthpiece. It doesn't get hot and I used an Aero Capsule so I can add some air to the vapor to cool it down for hotter temps or you can shut the air intake off for just solid vapor. I thought GHL should come out with another mouthpiece with an adjustable air-intake like some of the atomizers out there and make it a little longer so it might be a little cooler.

nice! just be careful, as I think the maximum temp for polyimide is ~400ºF... Doesn't the hopper easily get hotter than that?

polyimide has no melting point (don't make me go look it up - i'm just rememberimg) ... 400F not a problem.

If @Ed's TnT ever gets one of these, I'm sure he can make a WonG or mouthpiece cover. Out of wood not hemp. I'm sure he would do an awesome job. Curious if someone could make a mouthpiece out of hemp stock?

Hey hey, thanks CK, you know if that's all it is, that's easy peas babe! I could turn one of those out with out a doubt, straight, tricked, wong, you name it, consider it done! Anybody wanna send one my way you can be assured a freebie for your time and sacrifise, any offers?

What about maybe freezing the mouth piece first then screwing it on and trying it? Or maybe a full body silicone tip like a condom it covers the whole grasshopper and it ends up becoming the tip you pull from boom heat problem solved or maybe just click it off every time u take a hit then wait 10 to 20 seconds till u tke the next hit maybe?

Awesome..... this was exactly were I was going as well.... I prefer glass of course.... say 3 or 4" would be very nice indeed.... those Aero capsules for whatever reason always made us cough..... but the thing I think I like the most about having that extra bit of glass airway.... sure the cooling is GREAT but the thing that really seals the deal for me is the absolutely wonderful reclaim I collect....
truly glorious.....

Can anyone give me a comparison of the Crafty vs. Grasshopper? I'm currently in the market for my first portable, but torn between the 2. I'm leaning towards the Crafty right now because I have no patience to wait until December to receive one, but if it's worth the wait, I may as well.

Thanks in advance!
