for those of you using ISO to clean your grinders... how long do you soak the grinder parts before evaping the ISO?

also, what about wands? should i soak a vape wand for the same amount of time as the grinder or will the wand take longer due to the stickyness of the wand hash?

ive got the day off and will be doing some cleaning.

thanks! i can always count on this site.

I dont kno about the wands so hopefully someone can help you on that. But you dont really need to soak ur grinder unless its been used very heavly. What i usually do is put 1 piece of the grinder in at a time and twirl it around for a few minutes. And keep addiing 1 piece of the grinder at a time u want to use as little iso as possible cuz it makes the evap time much quicker. But you still want to make sure u have enough were its effectively cleaning ur grinder. Then find a big glass plate and make it glass nouthin else because metal and plastic wouldnt be a good idea. The frist time i did this i used a little to much iso making it quicker to clean but makes it much longer to evap. When i do it know it should only take 1-2 hours maybe 3 hours max.

ok so i went back and read the reclaim your resin thread and decided again to scrape the wand, and then use iso to get the residuals. i went with the recommended bamboo skewer for the scraping and it worked perfectly. much easier than the last time. i did not freeze it and it left very little residual. then i just plugged one end of the wand with my finger, poured in a little iso and plugged the other with my thumb. shook it rigorously for like 2 mins and it was spotless, then poured that iso into the pyrex dish i was using to soak the grinder.

i chose a pyrex dish with a sealable lid so i can set all 4 pieces inside, pour just enough iso in, pop the lid on and give it a little agitation. i did this for about 5 mins and let it soak another 10-15. then removed the grinder parts, filled a larger dish with hot water, and placed the pyrex/iso into that. it then went outside to evap. i believe the hot water bath should assist in the evap process.

as for the wand hash... it was a much easier process with better results. i ended up with a good sized chunk. took a small bit and hit it like 3 or 4 times. produced great vapor and im ripped. cant wait to see whats left in the pyrex.

For a two piece grinder there's no screen so I find that ISO is not necessary; just regular rubbing alcohol suffices.
Just put the grinder in a zip lock back with some alcohol; shake it up a few times, a few hours seems to do the trick.

Grinds so freaking well, I bought this one after using a mr coffee one and the new one blew it out of the water.

Also added perk to it is that angle that changes on the top of it. Do you see it there? Its almost like a window?

That collects kief compressed basically. And it collects a LOT. So if you want it all its right there for ya. Or just put it back in the bud. I just put it back cause the LB does wonders with the kief.

And its significantly quieter compared to others.. So it doesn't sound like your turning on a damn vacuum at midnight.
Got it on you say so!

Isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol) is generally considered to be rubbing alcohol, although technically, ISO is pure, while rubbing alc is diluted to some degree. The rubbing form is so cheap and readily available that I'm sure that's what people are referring to when they talk about using ISO.

Yah. I use the 93% or whatever the high percentage isopropyl alcohol you can purchase at any drug store for like $1.97 for a huge bottle. Combine this with a little kosher salt and some friction and your pieces/grinder/etc. will be clean in no time. Just need a bit of agitation to get the gunk off. sometimes I just put a little kosher salt and alcohol in my 4 piece mendo mulcher (all pieces but the kief catcher) and give it a few twists and a rinse and its good as new. Definitely helps you collect more kief if your screen is getting clogged. Give the kosher salt a try if just plain alcohol isn't cutting it. Works wonders. And be gentle.

Is there a thread on "grinding" technique? As in what parts of the bud you are supposed to put in?

I know this sounds noobish, but yeah haha.

Nope. No thread on technique. Just load up and grind. It's mostly personal preference. I try to keep all but the smallest stems out of the grinder, but that's because two of the vapes I grind for are the LB and PD, and neither does well with 'little sticks' in the mix. If you're using a coffee grinder, it's probably easier to deal with small stems though.

yeah stems don't vape, keep them out of your grinder as I've witnessed teeth break off of grinders from stems.

Since all the name brands (AFAIK) are now cut from a solid block of aluminum (all CNC), broken teeth shouldn't be much of an issue anymore. Even if you've got a cheap gas station grinder, limit the stems to the size of a pencil lead or smaller and you should be OK. It's also pretty easy to remove small stems after grinding.

I know this sounds noobish
Everybody's a newbie to begin with. ;) If using a 2 pc. grinder, grinding for a longer period of time will get you a finer grind. With a 4 pc., the holes are gonna limit the grind consistency.

Okay awesome. I will figure it out once I get some ganja. I will be using a 2 pc. grinder and an MFLB so i'll watch for the stems! and I am guessing any seeds should stay out too correct?

Aight thank you for the advice. I am looking into a small space case and I know they are good quality so it should be all good.

phew...just spent several hours going through ALL the posts in this thread! lol

I've used Space Case 2 piece grinders and I think they are awesome. You can essentially grind down to a consistency that you like from course to fine. My only gripe is that you have to be very careful not to load too much herb into them otherwise it overspills and the grinder gets gummed up and stuck very quickly. It doesn't seem to be much of a problem with well dried herb. The olther issue is that the titanium coating chips off. If I ever bought another one i'd try the polished instead.

I've used a couple of Sharp Stones and found the quality kind of lacking. One of them the screen broke and came out, and the other the ring fell off (the friction disk ring). I used the 4 piece and I too find that the holes are too big and the end product is to coarse for vaping. I'm not too concerned about separating kiff... yeah I belong to that fan club, i like my herb with my kif.

So I just want to +1 for the coffee grinder. I totally forgot that was an option so i pulled out the ol blackndecker and pulsed it a few times and voila! Perfect grind consistency, very uniform, tonnes of trichomes, and i can srape off the kif to add it back to the herb, or save it up on the walls of the little plastic cup.

What I can tell forsure since switching to the coffee grinder is that i'm getting waaaay more vapor and i'm getting alot more buzzed! I can't believe it, i must have not been grinding down the bud enough, although i'm sure I was. I'm also using lower temps now. Using my space case 2 piece I was about 15-20C higher temp than when i'm using my coffee grinder.

Does the blade of the coffee grinder somehow release more essential oils or some shit?

You're just exposing more surface area to the heat. The only downsides to a really fine grind - you may impede the air flow some with the tightly packed particles, and depending on the vape model you're using (screen mesh size), small particles may get through the screen.

Lowfront, Pappy, or anyone who has this grinder.... Where did you get it? I see it everywhere online, but I would love to just be able to pick it up locally at a store.

If you're referring to the proctor silex, I saw it available locally at my CVS as well as the rite aid drug stores, so I'm assuming it's available. It was $15.00 in the stores, while I picked mine up on amazon.com for $12.99. Someone mentioned on the forum awhile ago seeing it as low as $7.00 at WalMart.

Cheers,

Not an issue with the Extreme. I have a 1/2 dozen screens that I rotate through as they get dirty and have a small container of iso that I throw them in. Kif works just fine too. I haven't ever had particles in my glass water pipe, although I do have to use iso every so often because I see a yellowish build up on the downstem which are the very fine particles.

Just used the coffee grinder to grind 11g of kif and 3.5g of purple kush bud and made brownies! First I simmered the grinded vapor poo/bud com in organic budder and coconut oil for about 10 mins, and then made a homemade brownie recipe. Hopefully they are effective.
