while on the subject of traitor joes and brownies i feel this is appropriate!
trader-joes-brownie-mix.jpg

I found this recently, its brownie mix, but if you add 1 egg instead of 2 it becomes cookie dough, and its really good. it makes what i call "blackout cookies'

I just picked this up , mind sharing your recipe for the cookies and how you make your butter or oil ? thanks

Ok, I believe it says on the box how to turn the brownie mix into cookie dough.
Im going to give you a simplified cannabutter reccipie,

Heat a small amount of water and the desired amount of butter, (how much water doesn't mater, as it will separate out in the end)
Add cannabis to mixture, heat on a low heat for a long time, the longer the better, i would try for an hour at least.
turn off heat, let the mixture cool slightly.
while still warm, strain the butter and bud mixture thru a cheesecloth or the like.
Let the butter and water mix harden in the fridge over night, in the morning there will be two layers one of butter and one of water. pour off the water it is trash.
you should be left with a nice chunk of canna-butter, Let me know if you have any questions.

Ok I am new here and need a lot of advice. I am having throat surgery on thurs. I may lose the ability to vape at all and if I have cancer that's it. I am trying to slowly understand how to make this oil; I have a lot if AVB and some fresh herb that I could use. For some reason I am not into doing this at all but it mite be my only way.

Can AVB be mixed with fresh; I don't want my fresh to go bad

Should I use a slow cooker or frying pan

Some recipes call for some kind of chemical to be added which helps the pot stick now I can't find it

I don't know why I am so resistant to this. I've watched my mom die of cancer quit cigerattes pulled my husband thru prostate cancer and now I'm facing this down. I don't know why the thought of never vaping again so depresses me; I should be more worried about my health and I am. I just feel like after learning how to moderate and use only on the weekends I still am ending up in a bad place.

I have 3 kids and I'm acting like such a baby. I am a good cook. It just seems so overwhelming and I don't think it will work

Mom, My FC soul sister. You can add ABV directly into peanut butter or almond butter. I would use a coffee grinder to get it as fine as you can. You can heat it for a min in the microwave to be sure you get all the medicine extracted. Eat as is or add to a milkshake. Add some chocolate chips if you want. Just don't over do. Dosing is the tricky part. Try this on an empty stomach, then eat something when you feel it working. Something else high in fat. I would try 1 teaspoon ABV and work my way up.

Try it out then if you don't feel anything after 2 hours try another teaspoon. I used about 3 - 4Tablespoons in my milkshake that I made and it was too much. I didn't feel anything after 1 hour so I ate more. Couch lock big time. I felt this whole body too high feeling for over 24 hrs.
I woke up the next morning so tired I couldn't hardly get out of bed. I had to go to work. Luckily I lived fairly close to where I worked. But I still didn't feel safe driving. It was awful.. I said, never again.

You can add ABV to milk and cook it on the stove for a half hour, then strain it, add cocoa. Medical hot cocoa. I have never tried it, but have seen the recipe. Cooking cannabis might open up a whole new world for you. Try this website: bakingafoolofmyself.

Don't let people tell you that ABV isn't that strong. Some ABV is very strong. If you use fresh herb you will need to decarb it. Grind the herb, lay it out on a tray at 250F degrees in the oven for 1 hour. Then you prepare it in the oil or butter by following the recipe.

There's tincture recipes where you use alcohol or vegetable glycerine. I'm still learning myself. Good luck on Thursday with the surgery. I am throwing positive vibes your way.

I wanted to update my experiences regarding the cold infusion method and provide a new suggestion.
Rather than shaking the oil/ ABV jar vigorously daily, I recommend opening the lid and stirring the liquid with perhaps a bamboo skewer. The reason I started doing this is because no matter what jar I've used and no matter how tight the lid is, there always seems to be some leakage around the lid. Anyone else ever experience this exact thing? Give it a shot - I think this extra adjustment makes a difference.

I used this website the first time I made brownies with oil. This recipe calls for 5gs of high quality nug, but can be used for avb, however the potency of each brownie is up to you. You can mix abv with the fresh nug however I would do them separate so you can see the difference in potency between the abv and fresh nug brownies (never had a pure abv brownie). I used 9gs of shake for 9 brownies (1g per brownie) while in the recipe it uses 5gs good quality nug for 32 pieces. Again, how potent the brownies are is up to you, so it might take a few tries to get it right.

hey guys. this will be my second time attempting edibles. the first time i added butter to my coffee. it works alright but i was disappointed. A couple questions, will this ruin the pan that you use? also does it have to be cheese cloth? could you use a coffee filter or would that capture the fat/oil/whatever.

No it doesn't ruin the pan you use, and no it doesn't have to be cheese cloth. Clean the pan as soon as your done using it so it's easier to clean and cheese cloth is just useful so you can squeeze out all the goods without getting any herb/avb in your butter/oil.

If doing it the cold infused way, does the oil need to be strained? Can you use a coffee filter?

I don't have an electric coffee grinder, will normal grinder consistency be ok?

Cheesecloth works better than coffee filters in my experience.

Is cheesecloth something grocery stores sell? I got to admit, I'm not sure what it is...is it the pieces of paper the deli uses to to separate cheese? Haha

Cheesecloth is used in cheese making to separate the curds from the whey. It looks sort of like gauze you might use to bandage a wound. If you can't find cheesecloth locally, you can buy it for less than $5 from any major shopping website.

The reason I do not recommend coffee filters is that it takes a very long time because the filter is so fine. Cheesecloth is a looser weave so it is much faster and you get most of the solids out. It is not quite as particle free as a coffee filter, but it is close enough for my purposes.

You should watch the Bad Kitty Smiles instructional videos. If you skip ahead to 12:30 in this video you can see cheesecloth in action:

No, the oil does not have to be strained because the ABV is ground to a powder consistency. In fact I would not strain at all. An electric coffee grinder is better but I guess a regular grinder will suffice just make sure that you over grind.

Ok I have to report my findings. First, a big shout out to jeffp. Dude, your method of cold infusion worked like a charm and I didn't have to worry about using a crockpot outside on my deck in the middle of the night to get it done (kids and neighbors). Bravo!

I had been saving my mid grade Blue Dream ABV for about a year and I ended up with 61 grams to play with. I took that 61g and water purified it over 5 days. When I was done I was left with 23 grams (shocking). I knew there would be a big loss of finished plant matter, but I didn't expect my stash to drop by almost 2/3s!

Anyway, I took 14 grams and ground it down to a powder, and then dropped it in a mason jar with a 1/2 cup of canola oil, a pinch of salt, and a tsp of organic apple cider vinegar. I put it in my desk drawer for 4.5 days, stirring once or twice a day as directed.

When the oil was ready, I made a Ghirardelli Walnut brownie mix and added Creme De Menthe chips (in moderation). The recipe called for a 1/3 cup of canola oil but I dropped in the full 1/2 cup (DID NOT strain) and mixed everything in an electric mixing bowl. I baked at 320 for about 40 mins. All told I got 12 brownies and the taste and texture is outstanding.

But most importantly, THIS SHIT WORKS. I tried a small brownie after one day of freezing and it gave me a nice body high. However, after a week of freezing I think the potency changed. A buddy and I split one brownie Sat night and I was definitely feeling it. But he was decimated. Now it's true that he hasn't smoked in a long time, information I wish I had before I gave him the half brownie, but he was full on can't feel his hands have to go home couch lock down fuct up. We had tickets to a show and couldn't go.

I apologize for my long winded post, but I spent a lot of time lurking and absorbing info from here so I wanted to share. Conclusions:

1. Water purification had a major impact on potency and smoothness.
2. Cold infusion works as directed.
3. Do add Creme De Menthe chips. The mintiness acts as a cover for the weed smell and adds useful texture and flavor.
4. Be careful with edibles.

Cheers!

I'm making some brownies using vtac's original recipe and ~16.9g of ABV. I just threw them in the oven a few minutes ago. It's an 8x8 pan, so I figure I'll just split them into 16 brownies and get ~1g/brownie. Let's see what happens...

EDIT: Took them out of the oven and they certainly smell good. I just ate half of a brownie, so about .5g (in theory).

Howd you like them?

The brownies taste delicious (Ghiradelli Dark Chocolate mix), but they only give a feathery, floaty body high with no head high at all. It's nice for pain relief, but it's not totally what I was hoping for.

I'm not sure why, but my two hypotheses are either the ABV I used was almost fully extracted beforehand, or I must've had the temperature too high when I made the cannaoil (2 hours in a saucepan on low heat, stirring every 10 minutes).

EDIT: Also, near the end, I also accidentally dripped a few water droplets into the saucepan and they boiled instantly, causing the whole thing to start bubbling furiously for a few seconds before I could get it off the flame. Is it possible that this somehow caused the oil to boil, vaporizing all the infused good stuff?

Hi,
need more information to try to help.
-Specifically, what temp was the normal/highest temp when you vaped the herb?
-What vaporizer (brand/model) and what temp on it?
-How was the quality of the herb you reduced to ABV?

I'm guessing it was likely well extracted and just high level temp effects remained.

For example, herb vaped in my Herbalizer at 445 F is mostly spent/ gone and what remains are the more sedative/ pain relieving etc goodies. Great for edibles for nightime and pain but not so much to get Buzzed on.

On the other hand, some folks here have 370 F as their highest vape temp. Their ABV would be much more potent/ effective.
Please give more details

Probably around 390F (level 5 on my Arizer Solo) to 401F (level 6), depending on if I was using a water pipe or not. And the herb was mid to high quality.

Sounds like the perfect textbook ABV effect to me. I would be very pleased with "feather floaty" ABV edibles! If you want the head effect then make your next batch of edibles with green unvaped herb.
