You should get a cheap back-up vape for when something like this happens man. Why don't you pick up a VG Coil or a Gnome or something similar?

I don't know... It never worked properly to begin with.

Ever since day one I was only able to get very very tiny hits but I figured that's how they were supposed to be. Then I dropped it a couple times within the time I had it and It got to a point where I was unable to get a vapor hit. I sent it back to Rick a week ago, should be there in a couple more days for repairs.

I'm looking at another week of combustion (minimum) ... Sigh

Um, like the rest of us that is why you need more than one. I could have six go bad and still not have a issue :)

Well, I just discovered the best thing ever for the meantime.

I took my herb iron, put that into the bottom end of an elhe bowl, then attached my stem from my rockzap to that. I hold the herb iron button down until she gets red hot, then I let go and slowly begin to hit it like I did with my CRZ, I keep hitting the power button to keep it hot but not too hot. I have been getting some AMAZING hits. My god, the taste is so damn good and Its giving me actual vapor clouds, Just as much as my old extreme q did but way tastier.

I'm vaped as hell, First time in a while :)

Edit: It's really damn hard to explain how I set it up, nothing is glued or anything, I just sit the herb iron inside the bottom of the bowl and the rockzap stem in the top part. The herb iron has a weird shape to it which allows airflow.

Edit: Seriously in my spaceship and floating around the moon :ko:

Rick - I apologize for speaking out of turn regarding Canadian orders. I am excited to hear about your new arrangements though. Congrats! It was such a difficult experience for us over here. I am sure many Canadians will be pleased.

Maple9 - It's cool to see more pictures of that wicked vape. We were shopping too when it was posted up.

As far as we know our ambrosia maple will be shipping Mon/Tue. Not sure how long it'll take to get here because of customs and what not, but we're very excited.

We picked up the one that Rick posted on here a while back shortly after Christmas time. The design of the wood showed the head of a snake and my partner and I both immediately noticed. We had to grab it just for the sheer sake of the reflective imagery in the design.

We don't have a great camera or anything but I will definitely try to post up some pictures when the great day arrives.

Maybe Rick will be able to diagnose what went wrong, and will let us know.

Thanks for the info about your zap malfunctioning upon arrival (and not getting broken through use/abuse).

May you continue success vaporizing with your herb iron, and may your zap be repaired/returned quickly. :)

OB, I don't think that it is fair to suggest that people who buy the zap need to buy two to prepare for when they receive a malfunctioning unit or have theirs break down. It seems especially inappropriate for a reseller of the unit to be expressing that he feels the unit is so fragile/flawed that it is wise to get two of them to be prepared for the RockZaps inevitable failure. I imagine that this was not your intention, but it surely is the way that it seemed to me.

Rick, I have seen some reports about the internals of the CRZ getting loose and rattling over time despite having the ceramic insulation. How often would you say that this has happened to units this early in the life of the CRZ, and what do you think is causing this to happen (and what can be done to prevent it)?

Toke it easy, all.

Rick will be able to diagnose the problem with chibs Zap and will report my findings to this forum. I appreciate your asking chib what was wrong with his CRZ, Progress, as most likely several folks were wondering the same thing. I have a very good idea what the problem is but will not know for sure til we see it. We have had a few heaters that tested under spec for ohms which would keep a unit under par heat wise. My prime suspicion though is too much dense wood around the insulated heater in the center of it all.
We do many shapes, most within a designated height range. Some of the outtie(barrel) shapes, if the wood is a dense piece, will run cooler. We are learning more all the time. We have learned that wood density and volume of wood around the heater will affect vape air temperature. When this all started, we reasoned the wood density affect on heat would be minimal or not at all. We were wrong in that assumption it turns out. So we are adjusting with more softer wood inventory and less per unit wood volume with denser woods. It does appear that soft wood can be a good thing, a reassuring fact for an old man.........
I also want to report we are working on a slightly different bottom install for our insulated heatport assembly. The design and fabrication of a spring loaded circular clip that will dog into the wood will be in process this week. The change will keep constant upward(tightening) pressure on the center heatport assembly so if/when the wood changes with heat and time, there will always be a tightening pre-load on the assembly to keep it tight in the wood. The clip will be made from stainless spring steel. We still see no charring of any wood that has run on the standard 12 volt transformer.
Back to normal here. We will have several orders that came in over the weekend shipping today, along with a couple stragglers from last week. Even caught one from yesterday late afternoon that should be leaving today.
I have ordered more pre-cut screens larger than the 1/4" we have been using. They will fit the SS stem tips perfectly for a close to bullet proof install and easy seating for customer screen replacement. They should be here by the end of the week. The 1/4" fit the brass stem tips perfectly. I will be adding an option to the screen kit for brass or SS stems. Those of you you have tried putting the 1/4" screen in a SS tip will know what I mean. It can be done but is tricky. The 1/4" wood dowel we include with the screen kit really helps seat the screens.
edit:
I read obs post regarding having an extra vape(or many) and laughed. It was intended to be a comical post and it was. I am very happy to have ob part of the Zapville team and welcome all his comments. You, Progress, added quite an interpretation to what ob posted. An interpretation unique to you I am guessing. You should also know that I made the design/fabrication tightening clip comment before I read your edited post about rattle problems. Glad I did. Keep on a pickin', it will help us do our job better.

The shape must partially explain why my black locust even with its issue is still noticeably hotter then my Ambrosia unit which has the new DC transformer but has quite a bit more wood on its body. Though to be fair, my black locust RZ has been running for quite a bit longer of course(never let it go cold once i received it) but im not sure if the retained heat would make that much of a difference. Your thoughts on this, Rick?

What a unique "spin" on the ob's comment about how we love to collect our Zaps.
After I gave up my 2 Purple Days units because they did not work well enough for me in the area of heat, I began collecting Zaps.. Each different and unique.. they are all wonderful, and each one works perfectly.
And yes... if one goes out, I have 8 more to use!!
Same with many vapes... and that was the reason I had 2 PD units.... until I realized they did not work as well and got rid of them.
I also own 3 MFLBs and 3 SSVs.... and I have them in case I have trouble there also...

As you put your own "spin" on people comments..... people will put their own "spin" on your intent!

Ha! You are incorrigible, Rick. I was just cleaning out my spam folder, and noticed a very high percentage were e-mails promoting Viagra, and thought to myself that it is eerie how the universe seems to know me so well ;-)

Hope you and the lady aren't too terribly busy these days and still have time for yourselves, and that you are still brewing that moonshine!

My personal reaction to Ob's comment was, "Shut it, ya show off!" ;-)

I don't know Progress but I've seen his posts here on FC ever since I joined. I don't think he was trying to put a "spin" on Ob's post. I believe he is sincere in the way it came across to him. I think he is wrong in his interpretation and he even allowed for that in his post. The intent, and tone of posts can often be mistaken on forums. I've been on both sides of that coin.

I don't have much time to type, but wanted to thank you (Rick) for your insightful reply and continued desire/efforts to take a critical approach that results in the best product you can make.

I am sure you have all heard me gush about the improvements Rick has made in design, artistic variety, etc.

Vito, I wasn't trying to twist the OB's words. I, however, was possibly a little frustrated when I made that comment, as I don't like wh actual/documentable situations are overlooked or rationalized by the roar of the fanclub. I, as I stated I appreciate about Rick, prefer honest critical feedback and a product with transparency that leaves others chasing its evolution.

Despite me regularly using PDs and never having issues with their niche log performance, kudos to you (Rick) for the strategical way that you seek to improve/expand your business and products made. The Fanclub is a great source of assistance as free customer service (and even resellers), but I feel that you have to make sure they are representing you well in those situation.

OB, sorry about focusing so intensely on one particular aspect of your comment. I hope this helped yu understand where I was coming from.

Vito, sorry about your panties.

Rick, I always look forward to your updates and appreciate you accepting those with inquisitive/critical (and sometimes skeptical) minds.

Rock on! :D

Yeah she always ran cooler than I thought she should have, Producing a fantastic taste but with very little vapor. I dropped her within 5 minutes of owning her whilst polishing with the zap wax while she was warming up, and then the other day she flew right out of my hands while I was shaking her trying to figure out the cause of her 'rattle' (FUCK YOU HARDWOOD FLOORS!)
Keep in mind, these weren't 'bumps' rather THUMPS as these things aren't lite.

Links? I don't recall seeing those. I know the rattling (and charring) was very common in older (last generation) style vapes. The CRZs have only been out for a short while (less than 6 mos.?). Either way, they are already working on a fix. Improving on perfection, that's progress.

I forgot you had a black locust CRZ also. I'm pretty sure I'm copying you lol. I'm getting the same results. At least with my hand. It is definitely warmer to the touch, maybe even twice as warm. I haven't noticed a difference as far as if it "vapes" hotter though. It's still new though. I'm going to spend the week trying each one in various combos and configurations with the different Pas and such. All in the name of science and research, of course.

Had to add just a few more. I thought (very briefly) of an outfit. I think we can all agree though, these logs look better naked. Or "au naturale" if you prefer. Tastefully done, of course.

I think you are too....

I think you could test it better since yours are very close in shape and size. Mine is not only hotter to the touch then the maple, but it vapes noticably hotter as well. Like i thought i was about done with a stem from using the AM unit but i then took a hit with the locust and i got a few more hits that i could tell were a good bit hotter.

you have an interesting Black Locust Zap, this is mine

The black locust is very....complex? Can't think of a better word. Mine doesn't do that kick ass "shape-shifting" design change though. That's wild. The one I have, has many subtle color changes all throughout. Like bleeding of one into the other. I never knew black locust would have so much red lol.

Progress, thanks for your sincere response to all the comments. I think we are all pretty passionate about different things here on FC. Some of us may have different triggers to different comments. We do love to see it and do appreciate all input on our product from everyone.
The thing is, it would be kind of easy not to have new issues come up that need dealing with. Don't change. Don't try a new idea, just drift along with the same old, same old. Luckily we took a leap, a big leap at a good time. Because of that we will have some bugs to work out. We look forward to exterminating those bugs, organically of course. Those bugs really are neat because they are finite in number and effect on performance. One at a time, we will swat them or send them on their way and the CRZ will be a better product going through that process. The slight rattle on rare occasion for instance does not affect performance but it needs to be fixed and we will do that. That bug also took some time to show itself.
We have been selling CRZs since Sept 15, 2011, not quite four months for those keeping track.
Thanks again to all for your special contributions to our thread on the FC forum.

I am just upset that progress saw through my master plan.......... :brow:

My only annoyance is that I forgot to add "you should buy backups, but only if you live in Oregon or Canada"

I can assure you Progress, I was just trying to be a smartass. You all probably do not know me that well, but if I could possible figure out a way to make a living being a smartass, I would certainly do so. I am normally very good at it, and enjoy it throughly. I do appreciate everyone having my back though.

The problem with voicing things online is that sometimes sarcasm is not read correctly. If anyone took my comment as either serious, a sales pitch and as bragging about my huge collection, I apoligize. except for the huge collection part :)

I will normally try to add emoticons in areas where I am trying to be funny. I do not always succeed. :(

Progress, I understand your frustration too. You were loyal to a person and to a product and there are probably a lot of emotions still wrapped up in what happened. This is truly not meant to be a sarcastic comment. I totally understand where you are coming from and feeling. I hope you take this comment as sincere. I find loyalty a admirable quality. I too like differences of opinions, and feel it pushes everyone to work harder and improve what they are doing. I think it is good to ask questions and to push people.

I can assure everyone that if there are issues, Rick will work to resolve them and stand by the products. This is not coming from a fanboy or a distributor, but just a customer who has dealt with him for a while.

Heck yeah they are and hell yeah they do! My Redwood is one hot momma when she is completely ready for a sesh, I like it since it's justttttt barely cool enough to not make your hand feel uncomfortable. My Zap is also very, very light. It'll be interesting to feel and use another kind of wood in a few months when I buy another... hopefully it'll get near as hot as this one!

Got a CRZ a few days back and I love it. So ridiculously efficient. I get 4-5 of these hits per stem and I fill not more than 1/2 the stem. I had a few questions though. My ABV still has bits of green in it, and usually if I put my days ABV from my Zap into 1 bowl in my Buddha I can get 2-3 big hits out of it. Do you think it's worth buying 1 of those variable temperature adapters so I can sometimes run it at 13v, like at night when I want to get knocked out? I still find it gets me really high off tiny amounts though.

I have, since the very beginning of my vapor career (started with my Zap), gotten consistently dark brown AVB. I do slow, steady, LONG hits like Vito suggested most of the time, rarely ever pull hard. I also own a bubbler now that is only 7 1/2" tall and is very very fun to vape through. It's the same one my friend NYCDiesel has :p Same dark, dark AVB.

In fact, I'm very uncertain I can even make butter or qwiso or anything out my AVB because of how dark it is but mostly because of how BAD it smells! So, so gross.
