@Aimless Ryan You keep forgetting, the Aromed is using airflow to calculate the temperature inside the herb, its not the temperature of the herb just from being in the herb holder. That would make it a conduction vaporizer, if it did that.

The answer to the question you gave of a big load, and small load, being at 420f is they both would be at 420f, just at different times. The smaller load will get to temperature faster, so within 10-15 seconds of a proper inhale the herb will be up to temperature. With the big load, it will take at least 50 seconds because the herb is taking up most of the space in the herb holder, and that means less space for hot air to accumulate. You will get bigger clouds from a big load, but that is because the herb itself cools down the hot air, and vapor, as it travels down the herb into the water. More actives aren't being extracted because its a big load, its just what is extracted is being condensed more, and that allows more vapor we can see, then a small load will.

As far as the dark, and green, specks under the screen, that comes from the screen not being tight, not the temperature. This is why I recommended getting the tighter screen that I linked you.

As far as getting closer to the screen, and no combustion, that does makes sense, but I suspect it has to do with the airflow being messed with. I will email them, and see what they have to say about it.

As far as the measuring of the temperature at the screen, they use a silver perforated screen, because it conducts heat fast. Heat spreads out, it doesn't stay in one spot, so using a screen is applicable to using herb, since the both work the same when heated, meaning the heat doesn't stay in one area, it heats whatever is nearby.

I like that your are studying the machine, but always keep in mind everything pertaining to heat has to do with the air. Once the air stops or isn't flowing properly, everything you are studying will be off. This is the only vaporizer that does this, other vaporizers will always have heat going through the bowl based on how they are designed with the bowl being either surrounded by, or above, the heating unit. And the Aromed cools off right after you stop inhaling, so that plays a part in measuring the effects of the temperature.

Having owned the Arizer Air (AA) for a few days now, I realize it's actually teaching me a lot about the Aromed and vaporizing in general. (I guess that's one reason why I decided to buy it, aside from the incredible $169 deal currently available from puffitup.)

Near bedtime last night, I wanted to have a short good-night session. My throat was dry from having used the AA all day (without a water filter), so I decided to use the Aromed. There was already about 0.1 g of partially-vaped herb in the herb holder, so I turned on the machine and tried to see what I could get out of this stuff. (I keep my home very lowly lit most of the time, and it's very painful for me to "walk" to the light switch and back, so I didn't have any clear visual evidence regarding whether or not these herbs were still usable. The Aromed's lightbulb did not provide enough light.)

I tried, but I didn't feel like I was getting anything out of the herbs. So I dumped the herbs. However, I dumped them in a different area of my ABV container than the rest of the ABV, partly so I could get a clear look at its color once there is more light.

I found out this morning that last night's ABV is still quite green. Regardless, I couldn't get anything out of it with the Aromed (with the screen in its proper position). For this and other reasons, I'm beginning to think the Aromed might be best utilized with either 0.5 g or a raised screen.

There are some other things I'd like to say, but I keep forgetting this is the Aromed thread, not the AA thread.

At this point in time, the AA is my number one vaporizer choice most of the time, and it will probably remain that way (because it's simply awesome). But the Aromed is not leaving the guest side of my dining room table, and it will continue being used; just probably not anywhere near as much as the AA.

@Aimless Ryan There might be something wrong with your unit. You should tell the makers that you are still getting green herb from high temperatures, and see if they can recalibrate it for you. If its still green, there is something wrong.

I asked them a question last week, and they didn't answer back, but I think they think I'm trolling. They might just be busy, though, but if you let them know what your problem is, they will most likely answer you fast.

The Aromed has really come through for me today (even though I do still wonder if there may be some kind of temperature problem with it).

I am pretty much out of medicine, and I currently have no source to get more. However, I do have a few grams remaining of a strain that has been nothing but worthless to me (Grape Krush?). Last night I tried vaping some of it with my Air; no luck. Then I smoked some; no luck. Aside from doing nothing, it also tasted like shit. There was absolutely nothing enjoyable about it. I ended up having to take an anti-anxiety pill, to put me to sleep and to end the misery of unchecked spasticity.

Having decided this purple stuff is a step above worthless, if not worthless, I decided to try about half a gram of it in the Aromed today. So far the results are very positive. It tastes much better and seems to be keeping unpleasantness (pain, spasticity) in check.

IDK, but I think your body is used to dense vapor/smoke, and thin vapor isn't hitting you like you want.

If you don't want to walk to increase brain blood flow, and metabolism, another trick is to drink some coffee or a strong tea, then after 30 min., vape. You should definitely feel it. You can also vape the tea with your herb, but it may be too strong, and I know you have health issues so if you do that use a small amount of tea so you can see how it effects you.

Off topic, but I was on YouTube and I saw this video. Is this from you?

I got a reply from the Aromed maker, and he said he doesn't understand why you are going through this, as well. I don't know what's going on, but I hope you find what you want on your vaporizing travels!

Thanks for the reminder about blood flow. Walking is not really an option right now (or anymore), but I do have one of those exercise bikes where you sit fairly low and the pedals are in front of you. I had already been thinking lately it might be a good idea for me to force myself onto that thing.

I don't think that has anything to do with the Aromed, but thanks regardless.

Something is wrong here, cos the Aromed delivers the best flavor and massive clouds. It is the most efficient vaporizer I have ever owned. I only sold it, cos cleaning all the parts become a chore and I have made the move to oils only.

The Aromed is definitely a unit you need to live with for a while to get the most out of it.

@Aimless Ryan That's good, because whoever made that video is using the Aromed all wrong. They put whole nuggets in it, and they are expecting the bowl to be the same temperature as the screen, even though they are measuring the outside of the glass. They don't realize heating up the bowl isn't how convection vaporizers work, unless they have some type of conduction in the design.

Anyway, I was wondering how long does your sessions last if you use a temperature of around 410f?

I have a theory that a session of 30min- 1hr. may help you get the high you want to experience with the Aromed. Being that you stated it helped with some of your medical issues, that lets me know it is extracting something. Just try it out when you're relaxing, and watching TV. Let me know how it goes because I want to hear your results.

With my unit, which I had calibrated by the manufacturer prior to selling, 5 or 6 deep draws on 456°F would almost create brown toast! Sounds to me like your unit needs calibration. I get blueish vapor from around 350f and dense clouds at 385f.

I got my ass up and onto the exercise bike. Thanks for the motivation, @luchiano. There is a 100% chance I wouldn't have done it if you hadn't said something.

Even though I only did a mile and a quarter (on the easiest resistance setting), it was actually hard work for me because this was my first real physical activity in months. For the previous few months before this inactivity, I had been "walking" about 2 miles around the track at the Y (with my walker, which took me nearly two hours, on average) almost every weekday. Unfortunately I had to stop doing that when I started feeling a strange/scary pain in my lower spine (disc), which I think I still experience when I move in certain ways. I think the damage was largely caused by improper stretching–that is, bending forward (while sitting) and reaching for my toes too much, in conjunction with bad posture/slouching–as well as by the fact that the middle of my body isn't really strong enough to hold up the top half of my body anymore.

I can't remember if I've already mentioned this, but cannabis doesn't seem to affect me how it used to, regardless of how much I use. I can't say for sure at the moment, but it does seem that my difficulties getting medicated began all at once. And it may have been right after I stopped exercising at the Y. Up to now I had assumed my sudden excessive tolerance resulted from crappy weed, but now I'm beginning to wonder if maybe it was because I stopped exercising.

I can see how today's small bit of exercise might positively affect my ability to feel the effects of cannabis, as I have pretty bad circulation, if not really bad circulation; especially below the waist. (I assume my poor circulation keeps some of the good stuff, if not a lot of the good stuff, from making it to my brain.)

(If anyone doesn't know what 'spasticity' means, in the context of multiple sclerosis, don't look it up. You don't want to know.)

Hey Aimless Ryan,

check out the thread "athlete vaporists" and you will see how all of us feel better exercising and vaping. Maybe it comes from elevated heartbeat or for those who run, the runner's high. I am currently recovering from an opiate addiction, but exercise and mj has helped me stay clean!!! (90 days sober)

@Aimless Ryan Its good to hear things changing for the better. Just make sure you eat within an hour of exercising, and don't push yourself too much.

As far as your Aromed, you should ask the makers if they can recalibrate it for you like sweetherb did. If herb isn't easy to come by, you definitely want the Aromed as part of your arsenal because you don't need to use that much herb to get results.

I hope things keep getting better for you✌

You might be onto something else, @luchiano. Another thing I haven't done much over the last four months is eat. I've lost 25 pounds, and I was not overweight. I have wanted to eat. I don't care to explain right now why I haven't eaten much over the last four months.

That would be great if my Aromed does have some kind of defect that I can get fixed. However, I imagine dealing with shipping would be a major hassle for me.

EDIT: @mixchu69 I'm glad you mentioned that. I once completed a ridiculously physically demanding feat, during which I busted my ass every day from the moment I woke up to the moment I went to sleep, for 211 days (excluding about 20 days). Interestingly, even though I pretty much didn't smoke weed at the time, I did have some weed throughout much of the time it took me to complete this physical feat. I only used it before bed–one or two hits–never during the day, because I needed to be very alert during the day. The amount I now use in a week lasted me months back then, for many reasons. I never thought one of the reasons may have been because I was so physically active at the time. So I'm curious to learn more about that.

I actually did read some of that thread once, but I'll go check it out again. I don't want to say right now what I accomplished in 2010, but the five-year anniversary of my completion date is coming up soon. I'll reveal it then. It may also be kind of relevant to some other things that have been discussed here.

I know for me, years ago when I first started getting into my health thing, I was exercising but I wasn't eating enough, and one day I just couldn't get high. I'm not exaggerating either, I literally couldn't get high any more. The only time I did get an effect was when I changed to more stronger herb, but even then the high wasn't as strong as it should have been. Over time I realized I wasn't eating enough, compared to how much exercising I was doing.

On the other end, when I didn't do anything, I would get high on my first session, but everything after that I just got more lazy, and not really high. Plus, it didn't last as long. Once I learned how to eat, and exercise properly, the highs got consistent. My new thing is Powerwalking in the morning, it seems to allow me to get an even stronger high, while keeping my energy levels from going to shit. I think it has something to do with walking not burning your glycogen levels. I have a theory that the more glycogen you have, the faster you can feel the effects of things like herb, or have a strong libido.

I also have a theory that powewalking allows you to utilize more fat from it helping creating more mitochondria. When you have more mitochondria, you can feel the effects longer. So, combined the glycogen, and mitochondria allows you to feel a strong high for a long time. It's just a theory, but its what I'm experiencing.

Thanks to the last post, I've decided not to wait until September 12th to reveal what I accomplished on that date five years earlier.

In 2010 I walked across the United States, from the Santa Monica Pier to Coney Island, New York City, beginning on February 14 and finishing on September 12. I did this alone, with no money (except what strangers gave me), and I averaged about 55 to 60 lbs on my back. Early on, while walking across vast deserts, I sometimes had to carry as much as 70 lbs (largely water, as well as things you don't necessarily realize are unnecessary until you've carried them a couple thousand miles), but later on my gear weighed probably closer to 40 lbs.

I mostly did not smoke weed at the time, but weed found its way to me before and during the walk. Very good thing.

Weed was most useful in Colorado, which was probably the most miserable state to walk across, solely in terms of weather. I reached Colorado in mid/late April, I think. Over the next month, at 7,000-8,000 feet, I slept through a lot of very cold nights, and it snowed on me as late as May 14, as I descended La Veta Pass and said goodbye to the Rockies. Which means I experienced a lot of cold nights sleeping in my tent. A few days later it was summer.

Those are the nights I was most glad to have weed. Thankfully, I usually only had to take one or two hits, then goodnight.

I pretty much always feel kind of awkward when I tell people about this, like I'm bragging or something, but it seems pretty relevant right now.

Well, I guess the main reason why I decided to share is because it relates to the effects of cannabis on a well exercised (or athletic) body and also how nutrition might affect the effects of cannabis. Also, how it relates to that same athletic person five years later, after he has become very disabled; particularly because the disability was not caused by an injury.

A few weeks before I began the walk, as I walked on the shoulder of I-15 in Victorville, California, heading toward Vegas, I found a prescription bottle filled with what I estimate was about a gram of weed. At the Pilot truck stop in Palm Springs, about 10 days into my walk, while flying a sign for cash, some dude gave me another nugget (maybe 0.5 g). Then in Cameron, Arizona (Navajo Nation), a couple dudes hitting golf balls into a canyon gave me another half gram or gram.

I found a glass pipe and a broken glass pipe in Arizona, in two different places between Yuma and Gila Bend. I found the functional pipe on the shoulder of I-8, near a Border Patrol checkpoint. The funny thing is, the checkpoint was on the other side of the freeway (eastbound), and the spot where I found the pipe was past the checkpoint, from the perspective of the person who threw out the pipe. Also, there was no checkpoint on the westbound side, where I found the pipe. (I was walking east on the westbound shoulder.)

I think that's all the weed I had during my walk. Doesn't seem like very much now, but it lasted me all the way to Indiana (2,600 miles), where I was harassed by cops and put in jail for three nights for walking. When I was beaten up and abducted by the Putnam County Sheriff and his scumbag deputy Jon Chadd, I only had about enough weed left for one hit.

Based on some things you guys have made me think about today, I am inclined to think that being very physically active may have enabled better highs with less weed. However, I ate very poorly during my walk, which didn't seem to affect the high. Part of why I didn't eat well during my walk was because I almost never had much more than $50 during my walk, and I didn't want to have to stand around trying to wrangle up cash. The other part is that you just can't eat very much when you carry a 60-pound backpack 15 or 20 or 30 miles on just about every given day.

Whenever you fill up your stomach, you don't feel like walking another several miles. And if you do it anyway, it's not very comfortable. As a result, you tend to eat smaller meals throughout the day, consisting of several handfuls of GORP (in my case, peanuts, raisins, and M&Ms.), or Ramen noodles.

Oh yeah, I also found some Vicodin and soma on the side of the road near Wickenburg, Arizona. Grabbed a few, too, but I never took them. They never made it past Putnam County, Indiana.

Wow, I am blessed to be able to converse with such a strong person. To go through all of that, and still complete your goal is inspiring!

Your story reads like a movie. The herb being found to help you on your journey, the tools being found to used the herb, that lack of not needing too much to help you, and dealing with the bitch ass police in Indiana. I hope you made a copyright of your story, because someone may be reading it, and try to claim the story is theirs to make money.

Trust me, you are SPECIAL!

Correction: Bitch-ass police almost everywhere. Especially Kansas (though the people of Kansas were unbelievably awesome). I really didn't have any trouble with cops after Indiana, though, until I started another long walk a year later, and spent 16 nights in a Rhode Island jail, again for walking down the street, minding my own business, wearing a large reflective safety vest (because I obviously had something to hide and wanted to be able to escape the detection of police, considering I spent most of my time during these walks committing heinous crimes).

To be fair, I have met some very cool cops, both during my walk and during my extensive travels. However, as you may have detected, I tend not to like or respect cops. And here's one valuable tip: Don't EVER trust a cop. Don't ever let a cop search your property unless he has a search warrant or witnessed you committing a crime. That includes your drivers license, or your identity.

I had to deal with harassment from so many cops during my walk that I figured out their game, and I knew their game better than they knew it. Cops lie. They lie a lot. People who lie a lot, even if it's a part of their job, lie about everything. Don't EVER trust a cop, Unless they're actually doing something to help you. You know, exactly what they're paid to do but rarely do anyway.

One great thing about all the harassment I received from cops is that it showed me what happens when you refuse to allow their intimidation tactics to work. Cops don't know what to do when people refuse to cooperate with them (specifically because these people know their rights), because most people don't know their rights. Cops are mostly not smart people. They have been trained/brainwashed to respond to people who don't know their rights; people who will let them search their property, even when they know it's going to get them busted, because most people will let them.

Most awesome people by state, region, or reservation:
  1. Navajo Nation (northern Arizona).
  2. Kansas.
  3. The Plains states in general (including Nebraska and Iowa, which I didn't walk through but where I have spent a lot of time at truck stops, trying to get a ride).
  4. California is probably up there, too. I love California (and the West in general, excluding Vegas, where I lived for four years). If you walk around in California with a large backpack, people give you weed. The examples I listed earlier of how weed found its way to me in California are just the beginning. That's not even close to being the #1 reason why I love California, though.
  5. New England. Yes, even Rhode Island. And even Boston, even though I think the people of Boston have a reputation for being assholes. Not what I experienced. (But then, I am white, which probably makes a big difference.)
That's not necessarily my official top 5. As you may know already, I live in Ohio and I'm from Ohio.

I put 0.1 g in the herb holder yesterday, then tried it at between 350 and 400. It didn't seem to do much. However, it may have shown some promise after I bumped it up to 420 today, during a mini session that only happened because I needed to load a stem for the Air.

It's hard to tell anything by looking at the herbs, considering they started out about the color of grape juice. Also, I probably won't be able to confirm this prospective discovery until I have a nice stash. (A family member informed me earlier that he was able to acquire half an ounce for me. Then he told me it was $60. I usually pay $200 for half an ounce. So this might be interesting.)

I think I feel kind of buzzed right now, but I'm not sure. If so, it almost certainly has to be from the couple minutes I spent in front of the Aromed.

I don't want to unnecessarily get my hopes up, but it would be nice if I end up confirming that my problem was the lightbulb.

Also, I probably won't be able to confirm this prospective discovery until I have a nice stash. (A family member informed me earlier that he was able to acquire half an ounce for me. Then he told me it was $60. I usually pay $200 for half an ounce. So this might be interesting.)

I think I feel kind of buzzed right now, but I'm not sure. If so, it almost certainly has to be from the couple minutes I spent in front of the Aromed.

I don't want to unnecessarily get my hopes up, but it would be nice if I end up confirming that my problem was the lightbulb.
Hopefully that's all it is. Frank told me that if you use a low quality bulb, the Aromed may not work properly. I think I linked the bulbs he recommended, but it was the osram uv free bulbs.
