Remember when you would accidentally get a seed in with your joint while smoking?

I remember those seeds popping in my joints.

I remember the first time I used one of these. Exciting and scary all at the same time.

I remember the first time I used on of these:

Well baked and perfectly toasted.
I used an old Cox model airplane engine as a pipe throughout high school. I used the engine block, cylinder and the glo-plug cap with the center punch out as a lid. A small rubber hose attached to the nose of the block with the conical cap that served as a nose cone over the prop for a mouthpiece. I'll bet I put 5-6 kilos of hash through that thing in four years!

At concerts the Spaniards used to put about 200 grams of hash into a real bulls horn fitted with a screen with the very tip cut off and pass them through the crowds.

Back in the day....Used to have a parakeet who loved pot seeds. You could teach that little bugger anything if the reward was a pot seed. Put one between your lips and he'd fly over, land on your shoulder and gently remove it. Looked like he was kissing ya. My brother took it too far though....he'd put the seed on his tongue and eventually taught the bird to climb more than half way into his mouth to get it. Got to the point where without a seed you could get the bird to stick his head in your mouth to see if there was one....disgusting but always good for a few laughs. Bird also loved bald heads for some reason...but that's another story.

So here's what I found poking around in a couple of junk drawers.

The ash tray on the top left is from the 60s. It still has ashes in it from 2009, which is when I stopped smoking. The two hairclips were my roach clips. Notice how gunked up the ends got from combustion crap.

In the top centre is a cheap old cigarette joint case, also from the 60s, along with another hairclip for holding roaches. The film canister is the only one left out of countless numbers that served as stash containers.

At top right is my old tin storage box that I kept everything else in (except the ashtray, of course). I don't recall exactly when I got this, but it was early 70s at the latest.

The three matchboxes in the centre are all from my smoking days. I know I have one from the 60s but I can't find it. These are all more recent vintage. The left one has matches, the centre one has some seeds, and the right one has tinfoil.

The tinfoil (actually aluminum foil) was for making bowls for the two pipes on the bottom. Both of these are from the 60s, although I can't find the mouthpiece for the one on the left. You would not believe the crud inside these things. Back in the day, the screens would clog up too quickly so we (I was by no means alone here) would make a little bowl out of tinfoil and punch a few holes in it. Amazingly, I still don't have whatever that Al's thingy is. Now what was I saying? Oh yeah, those seeds are probably from the early 2000s, when I still was getting stuff that had a few. By then, it was mostly bud but there was still a little garbage in every ounce. I do have seeds from the 70s, however—a lot of them, about 800 g, or 28 ounces. A few months ago (stop me if I've told this before) I had the brilliant idea to sift the shake out of them. I got back 18.1 g. It has a perfume-like taste that doesn't resemble anything I remember from back then. It still delivers a buzz. If you look at it with magnification you can still see some trichomes.

Nice collection! Some of this brings back memories!

The predecessor of today's Jyarz, the mighty film container!

And the pipe with an herb storage/infusing chamber in the stem!!! Those were awesome. When one of those got passed around, I'd hit as slow as possible and get crazy ripped. Could hitting that thing slowly, maybe have vaporized the contents of that chamber, since it didn't ash? Don't know, but did get really lifted!

This is an actual picture of our hardware from the olden days. I couldn't throw them away, many years of use as you can see from the wear. One night I accidently threw a pipe in our wood stove late at night when I was toooo medicated so that one was lost. We didn't spend much money on gear all our money went into product eventually at $550 an ounce.

EDIT
You are right.
I just thought of that, you know you're SLN @poonman i left out Chevy. I loved Bill Murray and still do. They needed him for the cafe skit about the hamburger, hamburger - was it no Coke, Pepsi. They were a family of immigrants running a cafe they were from Russia or elsewhere.

I wanted to add this.

Im curious at $550 an ounce, what kind of weed was it? And around what year was it?

Im asking because in the early 2000's I would get a very good haze strain at $500-$600 an ounce.

Fortunately, things aren't quite that bad here on the black market - unless you're getting some really primo shit.

Back in the days when we were smoking what @CarolKing had in the shoebox picture, $30 - $35 was going price for a Z, and QP's were $85 - $90. Cheapest I ever got a real bag was a $25 Z - and it wasn't anything special.

Still remember how pissed I was when my guy went from $30 to $35 - and even worse he wanted a round $18 for 1/2! Couldn't believe that MFer would charge me an extra $0.50 for another baggie and some quick scale work! But, you know how teenagers can sometimes be with such things (just look at some of the posts in the cheap bubbler thread for a few current examples!). Now I sometimes pay the same $18 for each g, but hasn't stopped me yet. :D

Back in the late 1970s the brown earthy tasting cannabis with the stems and seeds was $50 an ounce. Eventually cannabis evolved and got better and more expensive. It was $80 for an 1/8 in the late 90s but if you bought a full ounce it would be $550 sometimes even a bit more. Med cannabis really helped to bring the price down in the early 2000s it was still $480 for black market. Anyway that's what I was paying.

I never knew the strains I was getting 10 years ago. About 5 years ago sometimes I would hear a name as to what I was getting. I always paid for high quality. The price stayed at $480 an ounce, which was too much. I live in WA state.

I didn't realize for a while I was paying way too much. I eventually got my certification for medical thanks to the encouragement of the folks here on FC. So $250 an ounce seemed cheap at the dispensaries. I usually buy by the grams. An ounce goes a long way using a vaporizer.

I only wish I had access to primo shit.lol....These days I dont mind paying more for quality, as prime time quality is not seen much around here. My idea with quality is that more is spent yes, but the herb is so good that you need less of it to get where you need to get and stay there for longer, hence at some point it would balance itself out.

Yeah, I understand what youre saying. Some dude trying to nickle and dime you is irritating, especially if you frequently do business with him. He should at least let a couple of things slide, where you both remain happy so you keep coming back.

In the past and even now, if I ever felt ripped off by a person that I am doing business with, it could be anything, I learn my lesson and dont come back, I am not going to sit there and argue with someone over what I think is right and that they are wrong. I will voice my opinions and concerns just so they know and give them a chance to fix it or at least meet me half way, but as the consumer I am not throwing away my hard earn money around like that.

So I wont curse them out, or talk bad about them, because who knows if in the future I needed them again, as soon as I got a hold of someone who was more honest, or realistic as far as quality and prices, that other person that I used to deal with, lost one more customer. I always thought that the customers are the business, without them the business cannot survive.

My price is $120/quarter ounce for high quality bud. I'm fortunate. My guy knows what he has. His contact is an aficionado who cares about strain. So I'm willing to pay the extra $20 that goes into my guy's pocket (I'm guessing he gets the ¼ for $100, which tends to be the going rate in these parts). He's half my age at the most, and probably has a good use for those extra twenty bucks.

I lost a few of these around the neighborhood when I was a kid :D

I'm glad to see they're still going strong

Damn!!! Did you ever bring back some special times! Too personal to get into here but GOOD FUCKING MEMORIES nonetheless! I was into these around 86-87 (12 and 13 - the absolute best years of my life!) I still remember my first 3 stage. I Always wanted the expensive one with the camera in the nose! Man, I would still love to see the video from that!

I'm the goofy one on far left. This must have been after xmas. Think we were spoiled?

Yeah! Erector set in the tubular storage box!!! Had one of those! Never enough pieces to build what I wanted to build!

Thinking back on that now, as an adult, I STILL DON'T HAVE ENOUGH PIECES to build what I want!!!! :bang::rofl:

Edit: I just claimed to be an adult!!!! :lmao:
