Discontinued The Grasshopper

I thought someone once posted here that mixing SS and Ti threading is a no no and could damage the threads? Did Trevor say to be careful or is what someone mentioned not true or applicable here?

Did anyone confirm that the threads are actually made out of the same material as the body?
Trevor told me to try it that way as a test, and I told them that's how I've been running it since the malfunction. No objections were raised.

Bad news and good news.

Bad news:
My hopper stopped heating. Lights work, but no heat. Tried multiple batteries, and outlets for charging the batteries but to no avail.
Good news:
As soon as I reached out to Trevor and Caroline, they responded that they were sending me a replacement and shipping label straight away.
Tracking tells me it will be here today. I will keep FC posted on it's status.

So unfortunately, another hopper in the wild has met a premature demise, but the customer service follow up is promising.
I imagine reactions may range from, "These are faulty units, I'm staying away!" to "They're sticking by these, seems like they're serious about keeping customers happy."

I remain optimistic. When good CS is involved, it's easier to have faith.

It's amusing that we can look at "at least they are replacing faulty units" as good news.

I mean, pretty much anything I buy has a warranty, but it's something you expect to never even think about....
@zymos I can see your point, and it's a good one.

Although I do think it may be missing that the Grasshopper is what some may consider to be cutting edge, delivering what no others have been able to do before. Clearly, they aren't doing it consistently yet, but I'm moved to give them some liberty due to the innovation.

I'll also add, and I may be a bit older than some here, that there was a time when customer service was nearly non-existent in this country. If you bought something that broke, you were often out of luck or in for a very arduous process to get any compensation.
Having experienced that lack of service a number of times in my life, a quick, no hassle replacement feels like excellent news to this old geezer.:)

Every time I buy a portable vaporizer especially I think about warranty and being able to send back if something happens. The failed rate on portables are pretty high and that's to be expected unfortunately with new vaporizers to the market place. I expect there to be a percentage of faulty units, hopefully not too many.

The Arizer Air was a exception to the rule. Maybe because Arizer went through problems with the Solo. Arizer had Solos that were faulty early on in 2012 if anybody remembers that. Now the Solo has very few faulty units here on FC anyway.

I expect this to be the beta phase for us here at FC. In a year all the bugs will be worked out.

I'm not negative about this vaporizer. Just want communication and truthfulness from the company. Maybe with the last couple of correspondence we've heard, it sounds like they are working towards that. Let's keep our fingers and toes crossed.

I was referring mainly to the whole wide world outside of VAS.
People here do seem to have warranties on their mind more than the average person...

zymos,
The (voluntarily shared) failure rate of this device, coupled with the (voluntarily shared) number of units in the wild indicates that FC and reddit have seen reports of most, if not all of the faulty units. The number of units in the wild that are faulty is by no means a high percentage, now that more units are out.

I love the reports of both working and busted units, but hate mongering here makes me sad.

you guys (and girls) are lucky because if there is any problem, a couple of days and you have a new unit...but i live in europe so the shipping time\cost are a huge pain in the ass for me in case of problem with the device...
i hope that my GH work flawless for long time...

Rest assured if the hate mongering gets over the top mods will step in. I don't think we need to treat this vaporizer with kid gloves either. Folks need to tell the good with the bad. That's why folks read FC for truthful info. If we have folks that work for the company pretending to be reg folks that scews the results. I would assume that's not happening.

Sounds like customer service is awesome.

Customer service is very important and at these very early stages of this over 3000 unit roll-out project it should be easy to be able to provide go prompt customer service.... doesn't hurt to keep in mind how very important it is for them to get back faulty units from the field... for obvious reasons.... the challenge stage will be towards the end when financials might be a bit tighter to manage..... at this stage the repair / replacement well seems plenty.....

We should also make note of these new assembling machines.... I can't be the only one that sees the decent opportunity to now begin to introduce machine assembly issues....

It would be very nice to know out of all the things we have seen fail thus far.... what they were contributed to.... design oops or human assembly or machine assembly or MCU or computer oops.... fairly unlikely to get all of this frankness and honesty unfortunately.... would love to know... whats our total @;

1. Back end is getting too hot - power issue {do to} design / assembly / part...?
2. Blue & Red distress signal - sensor or MCU.? {do to} assembly / part / program...?
3. looks norm but No heat - power / sensor / MCU {do to} all the above or maybe new machine...?

Seems like there may have been another.....?

Lets not also forget that more orders have been flowing in so the number is likely much larger than 3000 by now.... they are basically cutting their teeth on mass production......
Good Luck GHL  :buzz:

Those folks that are buying a unit now are paying for the faulty units. I would assume maybe that's how it's working? Just speculation on my part.

It's expensive starting a new business. $300,000.00 generated from their group funding. That's a small amount of money when starting a major business.

EDIT
GHL had mentioned they are releasing them in small batches. That makes a lot of sense, it cuts down on the cost and added work for the company. Also less complaining, folks are watching like many of us, many vape critics out there. They quickly can figure out where the flaws are and correct them. Also get new units to the customers which is awesome.

My hopper is still working flawlessly. It sees HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY use!
It would be awesome if you can make some of your famous stems to fit over the silicone mouthpiece, that way it will stay together. I know it will lose stealth but it would be cool to use it while at home or if you just don't care if people are watching what you're doing. Lol :science::drool:

I was also concerned about my estimated ship date so I sent an email to GH and got a reply back very fast, I have more piece of mind now. Hopefully September it is as I would love to have it for my birthday.

I have a ton of accessory ideas for the GH I'm just waiting on the correct tubing to get here so I can get some prototypes made up. Stems, gongs, even a tiny proprietary bubbler.
I'm excited now. I was going to cancel my order but decided to have patience, Grasshopper, and with all these ideas floating around it makes it easier to be patient. Thanks!

How about a bubbler shaped like a real grasshopper, with legs that support the pen to rest on/between the upper knees, no hands needed?
