I am open about my usage here in WA, but my family doesn't want me to mention it around their teen-aged kids. I want to be open about it - I'm tired of being in the Closet!!! I've even told my sister to use me a a tale of caution: "Poor Bill is on drugs, but we still love him". But I'm careful around them. I just sneak around family functions with a concentrate vape pen. I'm always goofy - so no one is the wiser.

Oregon Will Likely Have The Most Saturated Cannabis Industry In The Nation
Posted by Johnny Green at 1:20 PM on July 19, 2015Marijuana Business News

I have lived in Oregon my entire life. I have watched the cannabis industry go from people growing secretly in their basements, closets, sheds, and secret rooms, to close friends renting out large warehouses or outdoor plots and populating them with hundreds of plants legally. My grandfather grew marijuana, as did my father. I used to grow marijuana once upon a time when it was cheaper to do so than buying it, although that has changed, at least for me. There is so much marijuana in Oregon right now that I haven’t had to purchase any for a few years

I want the prices to come down at the legal cannabis stores in WA. It still is $15 a gram at some places for top shelf. I hope this helps the consumer. I don't want it to necessarily hurt the small business guy either, but there needs to be a balance. WA taxes a a bit higher than OR, WA will have a flat 37% tax along with a sales tax. It just changed a few of weeks ago. It was 75% and it was passed along to the grower. Now a 37% it will be passed to the consumer. It just needs to be affordable for the average person.

I know there are some well-informed Oregonians here. I read in Willamette Week that in October when stores open, marijuana products such as edibles or oil will no longer be available to recreational or medical users. Does that make sense?

It also recommended getting a medical card so you can use those products now. I haven't applied for one because I don't want my work to find out. Or my doctors.

Edibles, concentrates, clones & seeds won't be available to non card holders.. basically we will only have access to dry flower until a proper recreational retailer opens up sometime next year. I'm not going to say anything further due to the terms of this forum, but *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*

Edit: I gave bad information. It looks like we will be able to buy seeds and clones. I'm off to research Space Buckets some more.

No edibles from out of state residents? Bummer, I was looking forward to getting my hands on some quality edibles when I hit Portland next month.

WEST LINN, Ore. -- The legalization of pot in Oregon has couples considering weed bars at their weddings.

"We were shocked by how much people loved it," said groom John Elledge of his recent reception. "I'm still getting a couple of texts a day from guests who enjoyed the weed tent."

Elledge married Whitney Alexander this summer on a West Linn Christmas tree farm.

“Even an 81-year-old woman who hadn't smoked weed since the '60s came into the tent at our wedding. Though skeptical at first, she ended up loving it”

"On private property where no liquor license is involved, it is legal," said Mark Pettinger with the Oregon Liquor Control Commission.

However, he added, a caterer with a liquor license cannot legally serve alcohol at an event where marijuana is also being served to guests. "Caterers should be aware there cannot be bartenders and budtenders."

"We made sure we were legal," said Elledge,"We know the limit is 8 ounces so we had small amounts of 13 varieties with a budtender controlling consumption."

Second Annual Oregon Cannabis Classic Charity Golf Tournament Is Sept. 4th

I absolutely love it when cannabis events benefit charity. It’s a win for everyone involved. Even if you don’t play golf that often, I think that this event will still be very fun to participate in. I tip my hat to The Greener Side in Eugene for putting on this event. See below, via the event listing on Facebook: Oregon’s Cannabis Classic is a charity golf tournament for the Oregon Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society: https://www.msoregon.org/ The Oregon Cannabis Classic will be held at beautiful Mallard Creek in Lebanon Oregon. This event is a great opportunity to get out

Marijuana TV Commercial Airs In Eugene And Medford After Portland Rejects It
Posted by Johnny Green at 7:15 AM on August 28, 2015Major Cannabis Events, Marijuana Business News

I think that it is well known that Portland, Oregon is one of, if not the, most liberal city in America. Virtually everything is tolerated there, and in many ways Portland is a leader in marijuana culture and in the marijuana industry. The late great Jack Herer owned a headshop (which is still there and ran by his family) in Portland for a reason. With that being said, marijuana discrimination still occurs in Portland. Case in point is the refusal by a Portland media outlet to air a TV commercial for the upcoming Oregon Medical Marijuana Business Conference. Per Marijuana Politics:

I think I might want to move there. All the BS with cannabis that's going on in WA. I'm counting on OR to be a role model. Also hoping OR will keep the prices at a reasonable amount so WA prices will come down at the Rec stores.

Not sure why the writer thinks this. As a native Oregonian, and having resided in Eugene/Springfield since the early eighties, I can safely say that Eugene is definitely the most liberal city in the state. The Grateful Dead have played Autzen Stadium 10 times, Mac Court three times, the Hult Center, South Eugene High School, the EMU Ballroom and Lane Community College, not to mention the 1972 “Sunshine Daydream” show, also known as "The Field Trip" show, at the Oregon Country Fair grounds that funded the Springfield Creamery. Jerry Garcia’s ex-wife Carolyn Garcia even relocated to Eugene and still lives here today. This is also where all the old VW buses go to spawn and die . . . :peace:

PORTLAND, Ore. – Early sales of recreational marijuana begin Thursday in Oregon. What can you purchase and what will still be off-limits?

KGW talked with state officials and participating stores about what’s legal starting Thursday.

Pot is legal in Oregon now: What you need to know

Where can I buy recreational marijuana?

Any current medical cannabis dispensary can sell recreational marijuana as long as they register with the Oregon Health Authority, according to Jonathan Modie of OHA, the agency regulating early sales. Right now, just over 200 of the state’s 345 medical shops have registered to sell recreational pot.

To find a participating store, click here (registered shops have a “Yes” in the “Retail” column).

The Oregon Liquor Control Commission will take over regulating legal weed when it irons out all of the rules sometime next year. But state officials decided to allow early sales starting Oct. 1, in order to give residents an option to legally purchase the drug.

I need to go on a road trip soon to Portland. Oregon goes about it the sensible way, starting sales early. They aren't going be having $30 grams like WA had in the beginning.

I intend to use my senior citizen free bus-card to travel around looking at the lines around the blocks. Most of the this town local dispensaries will open for recreational sale tomorrow. I'll use the LTD bus cuz driving whilst contact high-fived is ill advised.
I wonder if there will be a tour bus?

Flowers only with 7-gram limit per person per day. I don't know about multiple store stops.
This is so exciting that "travelers" are coming to play in Our Town; what could be Wilder?

While marijuana use remains illegal for any reason under federal law, 23 states allow cannabis for medical purposes. Legalization measures will be on the ballot in Ohio in November and in other states in 2016.

Juliano Hamana (R) and Jayme Jennings (L) browse samples at Shango Cannabis shop on first day of leg …
In Oregon, possessing and growing pot became legal in July. Through 2015, sales of pot for recreational use will be untaxed, though that will likely change next year.

"You can get all the best strains from Oregon, which can make this into a top tourist spot," said Sue Vorenberg, editor of the Cannabis Daily Record.

Roughly 30 municipalities in Oregon have enacted bans to the sale of recreational pot, while others have sharply limited the nascent industry.

In Portland, the state's largest city, lawmakers on Wednesday approved limits on the recreational marijuana stores that will open there, such as a requirement they be no closer than 1,000 feet (305 meters) from a school.

Portland commissioners said they expected to take further steps to refine their rules for the industry.

Portlander here.

So today was a pretty cool day. Last week I planned on taking off from work early, deciding to hit the local medical dispensary a few blocks from my house. Checked their menu, did some research on their supply, and decided I'd get 7 grams of Green Crack, never tried it before and that is the current limit you can buy in a day until they open up dedicated recreational shops next year.

Got home at 2:30pm, walked a few blocks anticipating a line, and it wasn't bad at all. I was in and out in under 10 minutes.. and that was with idle chit chat about the prices being higher than on their website. So yeah, I'm pretty fucking happy, I just purchased cannabis.. legally.. for recreational use.

Lately, I'm a strain collector and my goal is to have 20-30 before the year is out. This new business of pulling into a store and selecting what I want from 20-60 different strains is going to be epic.

Another cool plus for today is the access to clones. Everyone's growing out here, even non consumers. It's weird, a lot of green thumbs. With the 4 plant/8 ounce household limit, we're going to see a lot of trading going on.. er, I mean "gifting." I think it is going to be a barter good shortly, although I didn't say that on the innerwebs.

Pricing wise is not bad, equivalent to the older black market prices of $10-12 grams. Lately, $5-7 grams have been pretty common in Oregon, so I did pay twice as much today as I would have from "bob down the street." But no big deal, it is worth it for the variety and chemical testing. If pricing doesn't come down in the next few months, yeah, a lot of us will be scofflaws or simply grow our favorite strains, but now we can also window shop those hard to find strains and pick up a few grams. Fuck yeah.

So if you're reading this from outside of Oregon, fight for this. We did it here, you can do it there and all that. I know very well the nature of quality cannabis that is born in Oregon & Washington. I want to see what Kentucky has to offer. And the Dakota's and Carolina's. Fight for this.

Lastly, that Green Crack is pretty fucking good. I'm high and wondering how I typed all of that.

Edit: @Bravesst, it's Oregonians, not Oregonees. And if you decide to move here, I'll fill you in on how to say Willamette and Couch Street.

@nihil , love Green Crack, but hate the name. I call it by it's original name, Green Cush---with a C.
Hint-- if you see Super Lemon Haze, grab it. And try a mix of the two :)

Very jealous of Oregon. Minnesota has a new, super super restrictive med program. Only 526 signed up dispensary pricing is so high that about 20% did not come back after the first month. $200 reg fee EVERY YEAR for patients.
I attended and spoke at a State Health Dept Mtg that was held to get comments.
Their only question was "Should intractable pain be added to the current list of elig conditions"?

That's a no-brainer

Thanks for the tip @MinnBobber. The Green Cush (Crack) is pretty cerebral and I'm loving it. Lots of energy. I'm going to load some Strawberry Cough next, should be a fun evening.

Any of the Hazes are in my top 5 search at the moment. I've been having a hard time finding them before today.. but now it's just a matter if I want to drive or not. Will probably pick some up this weekend, need to check some menu's first.

We have the medical registration fee as well, I think it is $100 or $200 per year, but don't quote me on that. What a cluster fuck that is. I have a family member in Arizona where it is much worse.

I never went that route because I'm not going to lie to skirt the law. I am a recreational user and have always been honest about it. If society doesn't agree, then I simply disagree with society and break the law. But now I don't have to, yay..

Minnesota is a great state.. I hope you guys can get your government to let this issue go.

That is awesome... I really liked green crack, and super silver haze was one of my favorite strains! very centered, focused cerebral effect

Fingers crossed for Ohio this year!

Super Silver Haze, that's the one. I've spent over a year looking for that bastard. Came close twice, but still haven't had it that I know of.

I will track it down in the next week or two and purchase some to consume for purely recreational purposes (damn I love saying that).
