Squished a bit of rosin through a 25u screen. There is more wax in rosin than I thought. :)

Edit: Even through a 25u screen it still tastes sweet. Next is a 15u screen.

Time to save up and make some rosin wax candles. ;)

Has anyone used the rosin tech gold press, either the 5x5 or the 15x15. What are your thoughts on it? Are they a good press is one better that the other? I don't see psi listed on their website anyone know if the 5x5 and the 15x15 are the same PSI?

D-Nail caught them stealing their watermarked photos as well as some other photoshopped ones on their site. At the very least I'd wait until someone reliable reports back on having received their product and posts photos.

I'm thinking a boxed steel square frame stood up with the jack inside, with one hair iron plate on the jack and the other on the underside of the top of the frame (if that makes sense lol). 4 ton hydraulic rosin press for $20. Am I missing any obvious faults?

I'd just say there is definitely a limit to the pressures of what stock hair iron heaters can withstand as the ceramic is not real flexible at all.

I really like the "feel" and pressures I get from a manual vice.

Is it me or does filtered rosin taste better than straight up rosin? Smoother and sweeter.

Mmmm, it's like candy! :p

Edit: also filling the entire inside of my irons heaters with epoxy seems to have added some serious strength into them.

Yea I'm thinking I wouldn't even use 1/4 of the 4 ton max, but with a nice long bar it would give some precision with very little effort. I can jack up a car with one of these jacks without really exerting too much effort, so I'm thinking 1k lbs force or so should be a cakewalk?

I haven't tried filtering yet, need screens :( , but that def looks worth doing!

Also I'm curious if anyone is playing with layering parchment? My current iron only goes down to 254f so I tried using 2 sheets to bring it down a few degrees. Not enough data atm, but it seemed to help flavor without hurting yields...

I recently acquired a three ton arbor press, which develops 3 tons of force with 60 lbs on the end of the bar. I put at least 120 lbs. on the end of the bar, so I'm using about 6 tons of pressure. I press about a gram of hash at a time, which is about one square inch.

I broke a 1 ton arbor press with the same process, which is why I have the three ton press now. I pressed at 160-180F then and now. The difference of having three times the force? Pressings yield more, faster, with greater ease. I can't do anything that I couldn't with the smaller press, it's just better all-around with more mechanical advantage

I don't use a hair straightener any more, but used to use one without temp control. Just get it up to temp, then turn it off to use a lower temperature. If you don't have an ir thermometer you should get one, but in the mean time you can apply a droplet of water to the surface of a heat plate to gauge the temperature.

what are you using for heat? are you just preheating some iron plates or do you have a regulated heater head thats handling those pressures?

...with preheating plates you can have more plates heating while you use one set and you can reach lower temps than a pid controlled device can if it has a lower restriction.

you can also simply increase the thermal mass by using a thicker block of iron and thus it will hold the temp longer.

ive gone down to 220°F with only a small reduction in yield but after trying some of @Joel W. suggestions on longer pressings it worked out to being about equal in yield from 250° range.

I built my own plates out of copper. Copper is the best choice for heat capacity and transfer, and something I'm able to machine at home. I use three plates to make each half of the press, they are drilled, sanded, pinned, hammered, and sanded again to form a solid block. Magnets are embedded in the outside of both blocks, so the bottom block stays in place on the press, and the top block will lift with ram on the the arbor press.

To use the press I heat the plates on a lab hotplate- the kitchen oven works too, but is less convenient. When they are over the target temperature, I use an ove' glove to place the plates on the press. I'll lift the top plate momentarily to check the temperature "inside" with an ir thermometer, which falls about 10F/min. When the temperature is right, I lift the ram to separate the plates, slide in the parchment, and press. It takes only a minute or two to reheat the blocks from 160 to 200 with an already hot hotplate.

Here's a picture of one block (half of a set) that's seen a bit of use, and one block from a set that I'm making for a friend. The unfinished block has been drilled, pinned, hammered, and had magnets installed, but has not been finish sanded. This allows you to see the three individual layers and placement of pins, which become all but invisible with the final sanding.

So I've reached critical levels on my stash and a buddy that is my current link for procuring more of the devil's lettuce is MIA - I've resorted to taking the massive collection of leftover nug pucks and re-squishing them at a slightly higher temperature setting after soaking them heavily in a pile of water I spill on a table, similar to what I read other users doing on here for fresh buds with a lack of moisture. Clearly this isn't the cleanest way to go about this, since I know I should be using distilled water but I'm using old leftover Perrier at the moment, but it works! Had to go through like 5-7 pucks depending on the size, and then use a refrigerator to help solidify the stuff and get it off the parchment, but I'm pretty excited about this newfound last resort stash I've sort of discovered - Rosin more and more reminds me of the idea of not letting any of the buffalo go to waste!

I have a small clear top coffee grinder that I bought at Walmart for $15. It does a decent job of breaking up the chips with a little shaking, down into manageable consistency for a Solo stem. If you're going after efficiency you won't get all of the resin out of the chips. Just my :2c:

PS I forgot to post this earlier lol, Platinum Blue Dream rosin. I had 5 more of these taster dabs but only took a picture at the end :disgust: Came out sap-like in consistency and great taste.

Oh don't get me wrong, I fully intend to do that to them as a last stage, but I'll run it through the roommates SSV and a big water piece to mitigate any bad taste haha. It blows my mind how many stages of use I can get from this tek..

I'm getting my tech down pressing different types of import hash, and just realized I'm getting around 30 to 40 + % yields of this hash. This sort of backs up my belief that the hash on the streets of Europe is reaching new hights, and according to my sources contaminated shit and low grade hash is increasingly harder to sell in bulk due to a higher level of knowledge at the level of the end consumer, forcing criminal networks to focus on quality to keep profits up. I digress, but this is interesting, and my rosin yields is interesting evidence for mye theory, or hunch rather.

Anyways, back to the topic at hand. I've found pressing light, sandcoloured hashish (often known as polm or pollen) - hard when cold, soft, but not oily when hand heated - produces pull and snap shatter with a heady effect when pressed at 120 degrees. Press time depend on amount. It is golden in colour when held to a source of light, and lf a light dark colour when not.

Pressing dark, soft hash, almost a bit melty at a summer days room temp, reminiscent of what we would call black afghan back in the day, would, when pressed at 120 degrees celcius, produce a dark, cbd rich, very flavourfull and terpy hard to handle sap with heavy body effects as well as a cerebral touch. When I dip a dabber in the NoGoo and pull it up, it looks like a dark red brown honey.

This soft hash requires more layers of cloth, or cloth of a finer mesh, when pressing, or else the hashish will press through the cloth and contaminate the lovely sap.

I need to do a sap dab now

The yields you are getting are telling me that the hashes you are finding are pretty close to the quality of a 3 star bubble hash. This is great stuff man, perfect material for squishing :D

I am so glad to be making bubble now since it really allows for the best possible rosin IMO and IME, and hashes are near impossible to find on this continent!

The best thing about squishing home made bubble is that you only need to dry the material for a few hours in order for it to be perfect for rosin squishing :D No need to wait for it to fully dry out as we might for bubble, and no need for disappointment if your material is just not fully melting :D

Hmm,

you sure you are not just pressing out any possible vegetable oils that have been used to make the hashish more pliable?

Because my experience over here in Europe only makes it painfully clear that the stuff being sold here is only getting worse....hope that spreading the knowledge on rosin might lead to a lot of people stepping away from this nasty stuff that in the end no one has an idea where it came from, how it has been made and so on...just my two cents...I might be in the wrong part of Europe?

@tepictoton Well, I'm in the richest part, and according to some continental friends a lot of the good stuff makes it all the way to the North due to the fact we can pay ridiclous amounts for our Cannabis compared to say a Spaniard or basically any one else in Europe. Before our location hindered us from getting the good stuff, now our money enables us.

I wish I could invite you over for a dab, and you'll be pretty convinced this is unadulterated hash. I haven't seen adulterated hash in maybe five years, and then everybody was laughing like it was funny to see those bricks again for nostalgias sake. Oh, well, I guess the ki's ended up in the country side up north.

I know Spanish-Moroccan gangs cut shit in Spain for the UK, but I know for a fact that the Moroccans in Denmark and Norway don't want that shit, because it doesn't sell.

Supply and demand, basically.

Soilgrowns dnail press has bent at the very top plate by the springs from high pressure to reach normal yields. He replaced the bolts with shorter bolts and mounted directLy to top plate. I can't post pics because it's private account. Bubble-man first big press yield was straight shameful. 40 g in 13g out lol give me a break. i am not impressed with the dnail press so far.

Has anyone experienced fish like flavor from dabbing flower rosin?

Has anyone pressed lavender, basil, thyme, mint, etc. yet?

Does anyone have a UV light to shine onto a parchment paper?

Edit

I went and purchased a uv light from China-Mart $10. It works for collecting rosin in less than ideal light easily. Also rosin looks crazy under uv light. You can see ever little drop of rosin.

I pressed and dabbed some hops the other day, it was good, and I'll definitely be trying other herbs soon. I just ordered some Boveda packs, once they come I should be able to press plant material a lot more effectively.

That's awesome! I forgot about hops! I'm actually drinking a hoppy beer right now lol. I'm going to hit up the hop farm tommarow and see what they got.

did you press the hops fresh or dry?

This looks like a fun press. Puts my arbor press to shame.

Cheers for that heads up on the UV light bro! I have had a lot of trouble collecting this super clear cluster bomb rosin from my first bubble wash - this is gonna make that super easy.

Now man I know that 13g out of 40g of bubble doesn't sound great, but remember, this was 3 star bubble (according to bubbleman). 3 star is not liable to be anymore than half melt, meaning we shouldn't expect any more than 50% returns in the first place.

Now Bubbleman got 13.9g I believe after his few squishes, which is a 34.75% return. For 3 squishes, that is so much better of a return than I've gotten with lower end 4 star material (maybe 60-70% melt) even! I often have to do 10-20 squishes to get that out of 4 star material with my flat iron. After reviewing the video, there was 100% more material to be squished by the end of the video!

Of course, if that was bubble-man's usual 5 or 6 star full melt we'd be expecting much closer to 100% return. I must say, if you are pressing stuff that is nearly full melt already, I have learned that you do not need more than a hair straightener unless you wanna be some big player in the commercial game.

I'm super interested to see soilgrowns experiences with the beta press though and his mod especially, but I don't do social networks as they are prison-bait for this stuff in my locality.

Found it for sale here, and the owner's IG is here. About $600 for the kit but he also sells 20mm coil compatible heated pressing dies to make your own.

Pretty sure I'll be going the flower>bubble>rosin route myself. What I need is some hash plant or something super trichy.

@herbivore21 are you using the 1 gallon bags?
Good idea man, get yourself some good trich covered material and bubble it up, the stuff squishes weight - I am gonna squish my 73 micron yield today, which I expect will be the best one of them all :D !

I am using 5 gallon bags and a bubblenow. I cannot be fucked with manual agitation of material lol
