Discontinued The Grasshopper

I was just in Colorado. Stopped at the weed store on the way back home. Herb we bought was not even close to "very dry", in fact, it was a bit damp even for my Underdog. 3 different varieties.

So, yeah, generalizations are not always that useful...

Maybe not as useful as a "general" but certainly true as "RELATIVE" Colorado herbs -even if you can catch a particularly moist batch- is still relatively dry and BY A LOT as compared to Oregon or VT for example. The reason has nothing to do with cultivation techniques or consumer preference, its that Colorado is a high desert. Once you take a product out of the extremely controlled environment of the cultivation facility the loss of moisture is RAPID, so rapid that the state had to increase the allowance for water weight loss when product is shipped from the grow to the store (product has to be weighed when shipped then weighed again at receipt).

Also as I said in that post, giving useful relative information (the question being is wet better than dry, not a question about a precise moisture point and if not implied before explicit now, in my experience, wetter is always better, there is no such thing as too wet) even Colorado bud that travels from Boulder near 0% summertime humidity to VT's perpetual 50% and above, the bud regains moisture and mass and yes taste better than it did when the trip started as result. Now the bud that I bought in Boulder 3 weeks or so ago is MORE moist than before because storage is also a consideration.

Therefore, regardless where you buy your cannabis, if you are looking for richer flavor with a GH, then by all means get the wettest product you can find and store it as wet as you can, although be aware of mold as that risk increases quickly.

If you are looking for the best cannabis tourism experience, BY ALL MEANS come to Colorado! We do it right and best and our cannabis is incredible!

However, if you are looking for the wettest dankest bud in the US, I'd book a flight to Portland, their retail sales will begin in October and I would definitely bring a GH for that trip .... AND a grinder because that dope is the straight sticky-icky

I remember someone earlier in this thread who got their GH pretty early saying it worked great with "just a pinch" and actually said it worked far better than fully packing it :)

That was me, and yes it works great with a tiny amounts and you get a lot of hits, for example a friend an I were just taking bong rips, we got about 10 total hits on temp 5 and for comparison we then loaded it into the bowl for the bong for reference. Of course this is not scientific at all but we reckoned that amount in the bowl would have produced about 3 hits with combustion where it was about 10 in the GH.

Also I recommend smaller packing and more importantly looser packing as airflow is inverse to amount/density of pack

Road trip!

Spent the last week cruising with the spousal unit in the car up and down the Oregon Coast. Only had to change battery twice during the week (after an hour of beach trekking). With charging cable in the car, it was more than enough to keep it charged between stops. I've been using a Pac n Stash to help with loading - just pack it full, screw down and grab a pinch off of it to load the Grasshopper. We found for the road trip it was optimal to fill the bowl about 3/4 of the way, made it easy for us to "session" while driving - (6 - 10 hits on setting 5). No issues or problems - I even dropped the clicker end in the sand once (it buried) - a quick wipe down and blasting it with breath - no sand in the end, none in the clicker - still kept on clicking.

An interesting note - over the week - we ended up using 1/8 oz of flower - I'm a heavy hitter, and the spouse a medium user. Much less than we would normally have used on this kind of trip.

The more I use it, the more I like it. I do need to get an external charger - that way I can keep the charger cable that came with the Hopper in the car full time.

NIOCE! I spent a week down in Neskowin about a month back, and yeah for eight of us we bought 3 ounces for the week, of course we were also smoking lots of joints etc. as well but we were surprised to have about an ounce left over ... Some of that may just be Oregon's dope is TRES SEIS!!!
:leaf::rockon::science:
Have any of you tried the pass through charging with it? And if so how long before can use it while hooked up to the charger? Guess it's to soon for anyone to say if it causes any problems or not

When driving out to VT I had a similar experience, never had to worry about battery during the day but I would say for a day when there isn't much car time an extra battery definitely comes in handy

They haven't even come close to making a single thousand units yet still jack up the price. Bush league as usual.

I don't know about "Bush league". The law of supply and demand operates in the Big league of capitalism as well. The CEO of a company would be negligent if he (or she) failed to raise price when current demand exceeds projected production capability. Rolex did it for decades on a pretty regular basis, no need for upgrades to drive new purchases at a higher price. When you can't keep up with current and projected orders, the usual and customary response is to raise the price until demand diminishes to a level you can barely keep up with or to increase production to meet the demand at current pricing. Price raising is much quicker, more predictable, has no effect on cost of goods, is easier to accomplish, and is easier to undo if need be. Either way, the price is right when stability is achieved.

I don't know if that's what's happening here but supply and demand would surely be a factor in any decision regarding price point and increased production is reported to be around the corner. I remain optimistic.

Thank you Sir! I've got 3 batteries total on the way, and figured I'll just rotate them out of this charger.

interesting that the standard Tis and the color Tis are the same price ($200). Free anodization basically.

I just bought a charger (nitecore i2) please tell me it's compatible with these custom GH batteries. Could have sworn I saw that it was, but couldn't find it.

Yes somebody confirmed that it works fine ...

That's great to hear because i got 3 extra batteries and don't plan on using the supplied charger much at all. I already have a Nitecore i2 myself probably still going to get a d4 tho. I like to have 4 batteries for each portable and only have the i2 and Haze charger currently.

Anyone know what kind of 3d printer is being used to produce the heaters? I wonder how much something like that costs?

They outsourced the 3D printed heaters to another (American) company to be printed. I tried to probe Trevor a few months back for some information on how the heaters were being printed. Unfortunately Trevor refused to give any information due to the proprietary nature of the design, they're trying to keep it a secret as long as possible

This latest update was just another fuck you (!!!) to their original backers imo. Not only haven't many of us received our hoppers or even an address confirmation, but we didn't get this latest update and aren't eligible for the discounts either. It's not like we can do anything about it, which is why they don't care.

edit: Has @HillaryClinton left fc because of this travesty?
I remember they sent her some bad hoppers and were kind of dickish about taking them back.
"No recent activity information is available for HillaryClinton."
Hopefully @HillaryClinton is just on holidays, taking a break from all this. :)

By the way I haven't seen it mentioned yet and I've only noticed it today: the oils end has the color specified on the invoice now.

Oils Front End Color: Dark Grey

There's really not that many materials available that can be 3d printed (compared to the vast universe of materials available for traditional processes) so chances are the only thing proprietary about the GH heater design is the geometry. This is pure speculation by me of course, but a custom formulated, 3d printable base material seems like a bit of a stretch of the imagination to me.

Google DMLS, Laser Sintering, Metal Sintering, 3d printed metal and such to get an idea of the machines and materials available.

These machines can easily cost two, three hundred thousand dollars or more.

What discounts aren't we eligible for? We've had months and months to able to add to our orders at our original backer prices. Preorders paid more than us, and new Preorders, as of today, are paying even more.

It sounded like HC was just getting ready to move, last posts I can recall- that could be the reason for silence...

Well, instead of the small load video I intended to put up this evening I have an update.

This is how I'm running my GH today:
image.jpg1_zps17ruu2nz.jpg

As you may notice that is a SS backend on my dark gray Ti Hopper.
The original backend for my Ti has malfunctioned. The button no longer works as it should. I can no longer turn it on or off. If you can press it hard enough to get close to turning it on it sticks. Something has failed in the mechanism is my guess.
So, I had the working backend from my Early Bird SS unit waiting on a new body and knew it worked on the Ti unit because HL had me test that in troubleshooting the original.
And I'm still running, but it's taking parts from two broken Hoppers to do it. FrankenHopper. Haha.
Trevor says they haven't had a failure like that yet, so hopefully it stays isolated.

I was supposed to receive the replacement SS body from HL today, but it took the Post Office nearly 4 days to get it out of Colorado. Guess it will come tomorrow.

I just bought a charger (nitecore i2) please tell me it's compatible with these custom GH batteries. Could have sworn I saw that it was, but couldn't find it.

I have been using a Nitcore D2 (digital display is the only difference I'm aware of) since I received my GH. Works great. Make sure to carefully position the positive side so it engages the terminal. These chargers fit a wide range of batteries. Takes an hour to an hour and a quarter to charge them from Low Battery signal on GH.

Well that is terrible news!
Has there been a single case of a problem free grasshopper?
In theory there should be over 500 units in users hands that are flawless...
Every time someone posts about this device it is either because of a fault, or otherwise a problem soon arises.
A few weeks is an abysmal lifetime for a product, I don't know how to feel about this project as a whole.

If GHL are claiming they have hundreds of devices out in the real world, there should be more positive information to go along with that fact.
Unless I'm missing something, there's a handful or two of users posting reports, very often followed up with a description of product fault or silence, and a few reviewers who are quick to claim they have a pre-production device and thus can't give full judgement.

I guess it's possible that people with one don't want to be pestered after declaring ownership, but it is fairly humanistic to boast and I'm not seeing enough of this to indicate that this device is ready for market, and what I have seen is showing that it is far from ready.

Let's just hope the new machines, that they are completely vague about, fix problems as well as increase production quantity. Because as it stands, simply building more isn't enough yet.

At least they've had a good amount of chances to prove their warranty process. How this holds up when the numbers increase 10-fold will be interesting to see.
Here's to hoping!
