Okay, lets see if I can bring some sense back into this thread, hahaha. Not that I'm not enjoying it!

Today I put the drilling/tapping jig to good use. It's really coming in handy.

All drilled and ready for tapping the 1-72 screw threads.

A little holder for the two drill sizes and screw thread taps I need for completing the steel tips.

The drilling jig converted for hand tapping.

Oh, and a dragonfly.

Just a bunch of repetitive stuff today, so not many photos...

I bend the springs by hand with the help of a jig, and a little anvil and hammer.

The brass machine screws are made in the United states. And they are really nice! Very strong brass.

Ten Okin steel tips ready for the drilling and tapping of the 00-90 machine screws.

It may be repetitive to you but this is the birth of our Okins! Keep the pics coming they're great. I can't wait, keep up the great work Dan.

@emmdeemo The dragonfly is an official shop mascot, not for sale. I did have to chase away a bear getting into the garbage yesterday though, you can come take him for $3. Will not deliver.

@pakalolo The shipping boxes are the most important ingredient to a successful product, and very labour intensive to make. I have my creative team working around the clock to finalize the design... but I don't think we'll have a finished prototype ready in the next 16 months, at least... that's what my engineers tell me. The Okins will just have to collect dust until these boxes are ready, sorry folks.

I'll be there in ten, anyone know how much bear import tax is these days?

And please take another year over the boxes if you have to, I'd rather you weren't cutting corners while cutting corners.

I reaaalllyy hope that my sarcasm was obvious, hahaha. The boxes, that I think Pak was referring to, were the shipping and/or retail boxes.. probably alluding to those other fancy boxes from that other company.

I've been thinking more about this... I know that earlier we all talked about it being a good idea. I don't think that I will include the number on the Okin, or box. But I will include a small kraft paper card with my stamp (for authenticity purposes) and the serial number.

I am also removing the word "Okin" from the stamp that will go on the box, I will only be using the Okin logo.

I used to work with a whole floor of "packaging engineers" that were literally degreed in creating product boxes for display, storage, & transport of medical supplies. These guys were definitely not the cream of the crop, more like the ones that flunked out of the real engineering schools. I'm talking challenged here.

This was done with the beta units and, although I never mentioned it, I really liked it. The way you did it made it something I would always want in the box instead of something I would have to keep track of. It's a nice touch!

Okay, so I've been wanting to get more into video for a while now, finally took the plunge yesterday and shot this little piece. It's mostly just a test. But I'd love to be able to put together something like this for future Okin production updates! The problem is that it takes a lot longer to shoot and edit... but, I suppose those things will get easier in time! Gutta start somewhere!

fantastic! ilove watching you work, and the sounds of nothing but crickets when the machines turn off is relaxing!

I got my hand drill and wire bits in a little while back. cuts through the coals like butter. now I just need to start drilling straight holes. sometimes the holes cross each other and i get the tunnelling effect of the bamboo coals.

no way that was your first video.

You have the same talent for video that you have for photography. That's not just well shot, it's well thought out and executed. I believe you when you say you are just starting video. Thousands wouldn't.

That sound is so nice when I'm in the shop! I recorded those crickets from the workbench.

And I'm glad you got the new drill! It really is a game changer, makes prepping the charcoals a breeze. I will be sending out a drill just like the one you ordered, except that it will have a wood body, and it'll be only as long as the inside of the box, of course.

And thanks guys! That's very motivating, perhaps whenever I'm tempted to take a photo, I'll just hit the record button instead.
