@HD Springer enjoy your Zion when it gets to you. We can do another run of fotos anytime you want. I can see you now pacing up and down waiting for another RBT fix. Myself I have to sit back patiently and wait for the 18650 single to come to fruition.

double as brass knuckles lol.

So how are you fine folks using oil in this beast? I know its an herb vape, but thats never stopped us here at FC from making it work with oil on any other model lol.
@VegNVape did something with oil too, and others as well I believe...
Yes indeed - I do know that my S&B Mighty SS concentrate pad wedged into an adapter works great . . . just as I think pretty much anything would (such as hemp fibre or cotton) that you can smear or fill with concentrate and then wedge into a GonG.

Just remember to invert your Zion in use to ensure that your heater stays nice & clean.

Ha ha ha @phattpiggie that thing is truly offensive!

How to piss off non-vapeists and pacifists all in one 'hit' :goon:

That thing is an obnoxious looking monster!

Not quite as innocent looking as my dear little Johhny boy right here - I'd definitely get a lot more nervous looks if I slammed that down on the bar . . . :o

Lovely bita wood tho!

:peace:

Many vapes & accessories. Always happy to help
@VegNVape it's from the Sexy Box Mod Porn thread on ukvapers.org. 509 pages of it
I like it - but think this one would suit better for the TOD ("in your face") ...
What about the finger hole sizes - some guys have bricklayer hands, others fine ones like piano players. Or just make it adult size? Like: If you can't get a grip you're not gonna rip :D

Hey can the Beta team give a quick summary on adapters and water pieces? I know each of you has your own prefered set-up and excited Zion customers have been asking. Thanks!

I know I did post several adapters on eBay a little while back, not sure what page exactly.

I don't know that it can be more straight forward than 18.8mm USO works perfectly and the ISO standard is a crap shoot, for screens and best fit in Zion. Screen wise best to stick to stock ones, though EQ baskets and ELBs can work for some too.

Waterpiece wise you want something with good ariflow, preferably a balance of flavor and diffusion imo, best I've used out of 5 different pieces has been my inline honeycomb, works well with every vaporizer in my experience since it pulls super smooth with zero restriction and the joint is versatile:
http://m.dhgate.com/product/honey-comb-and-in-line-percolator-glass-bubbler/183730847.html#pd-019

(The 18mm male to male that came with it is what I use as a wpa now too, though it's ISO and only fits well on one side, also makes Zion screens tighter with its smaller opening vs the wide interior of the bent stem, and medium width of the interior if Zion stems)

Great Scott!
IDK if suggesting actual bongs/bubblers is a can of worms anyone wants in this thread. Everyone's bong is "the best" right? Adapters yes, but bongs isn't it just whatever you feel like using? I use my Mobius Matrix with my underdog at home. I'll certainly give the zion a try with it whenever I get it.

I don't think I've seen any pics of the screen or how they sit inside glass. Is the screen pushed all the way to the back of the male connector? I've read that the distance from the heater does matter, are the screens domed to help them stay in position? Also, in the Air and Nano stems I pack very little (small stems to begin with) because the Zion is using 18mm and is on demand, are people generally loading more and getting more hits from one bowl? I've never seen the ELB's before but that looks interesting, if anyone is using these and would care to chime in, it would be appreciated.

I believe the goal is more for the beta testers to give a summary of the water pieces they're using and the adapters that allow the Zion to be used with them, rather than about which bongs or water pieces are the ones they think are best. For example, if any of the testers are using a d020-d, it would be useful for me to hear if they needed an extra long GonG to connect the Zion properly.

@VegNVape did something with oil too, and others as well I believe... But unconfirmed if ours are the final production, may be hotter?

@Fission it depends, some adapters and bubblers are fine, some aren't. What also helps is one if @Ratchett's SonGs, then you can even just use the Zion stem, though I've used it with a GonG too. My 187 has the clearance problem, but my inline honeycomb (D020 sized, below for size) and tree perc are fine, can even spin Ziggy in em well during a hit. I posted various pics of all of them several pages back

$229 is a good compromise RBT! And now people can jump on the $200 deal!
How long will they have?
Until production units begin shipping?

Got some Maui Wowie and it has been very nice in Ziggy, tasty and heady.
I was even able to use a volcano screen to rig up a fine basket screen for the bent stem from ALT, but it still doesn't stay seated well though I've had some nice hits, too much air gets in since the ISO length, width, and taper of this one is just too off. I'll send to RBT or get it cut somewhere someday...

(tweezers from amazon, nice way to stir and fluff up a load for smooth convection)

That reminds me @RastaBuddhaTao lets make sure to have plenty of extra screens included or available for purchase on the site so people dont have to deal with this (EQ baskets and ELBs can work, but i dont like the metal rim over the edge personally). I still like the original course ones that I use in my short stem and 18-18 male-male the most, but offering a fine screen option like this volcano one could be nice for some too perhaps

CNu2ner.jpg

From my own experience at trying to make a Zion screen, I can tell you that the reason yours doesn't want to sit nicely is that you need to make the basket deeper. It's the long sides that give it grip. @RastaBuddhaTao: I too recommend strongly that all Zions come with extra screens.

Those look like the tweezers I got from Amazon, along with a straight pair and free shipping, all for 77 cents Canadian! You can't even mail a postcard for that much, so I have no idea how they make money.

Though I don't have my Zion yet, I also agree with including extra screens, or at least making it so we can easily buy extras. I would much prefer to know that I can get as many as I want direct from RBT rather than needing to search out screens that work, or make them myself.

There were some pics earlier in the thread (ELB posts too), they are like Nano screens, baskets, you can put them in anywhere to make the bowl any size you want, I posted a few pics a while back about my ideal placement, I like a little glass rim, bout a cm maybe, and you can load any amount like that without moving the screen, be it pinch or full load, its 18mm male so not hugely wide like a female would be, just a little wider than Solo/Air/UD stem bowls. It all depends how you load and hit it, you can do anything, full load or just a tiny bit, just may need to turn up temp the further away from the heater it is. That's why some like the EQ screens but I find them a hassle personally they way they sit in the stems. Likewise as many hits as you want, so many variables in how you load, grind, herb consistency, draw speed/style, voltage/temp setting, preheat, stirring, etc...

@Fission D020-D likely will need to be longer, I have the GB-187 and posted about its issues, need a SonG or longer adapter. Better to have the joint more exposed like the bubbler I posted above, vs the internal joint like the 187 has.

@pakalolo yes but this bent stem I couldn't get a Zion screen in either (just slightly deeper than the one I made) bc theyre not wide enough, and the taper of the joint gets too wide too early, need a custom Zion screen me thinks... It's also just hard to make the screen as durable and exact as RBT makes his, tried with some pliars and stuff but its just not the same as the standard tools he's using to make them so well... So yes overall I think there just needs to be many more of those so we (and avg consumers) don't have to deal with any of this

And yes! Amazon tweezers straight and bent two pack, except they came from china and arent as nice as the one my friend got from the same link, his are a little bigger and the tip is coned to come to a more precise and durable point and close, these ones are flat and bend easy, but still worked ok I suppose

Connectors.

I use a 15 cm long 18 mm/18 mm male-male for my regular stem even though some people think it's gross to put your lips on a GonG. :p Of course the length means that anything I connect with it is well above the Zion.

I also often use a short 18 mm/14 mm male-male to connect my Orbiter. This doesn't rise above the back of the Zion, so there could be tools that would require a longer connector. I have two 18 mm/18 mm male-male connectors that won't work with my Zion because the OD of the center is too large to clear the back of the Zion. I believe (but I'm not certain) that later Zions have a bit more clearance. Also, both of them are made to the longer ISO standard and wouldn't sit well anyway.

I've read that the distance from the heater does matter...

At least with Jessica, small distance differences don't matter much. I experimented with this when I first got the Zion, and I found that the load had to be about 10 mm back before I began noticing the difference. Moving the screen is more about load size than changing the effects.

So here's something I just realized today. If you have a bubbler like the d020-d where you connect your vape on the top, does the fact that the Zion's bowl is in the cutout going to cause problems if I'm using a typical size GonG? I just measured the GonG, and there's pretty much exactly 3cm of the length that isn't part of either of the connectors. I would imagine that the cutout on the Zion is close to, if not deeper than 3cm. Would anyone mind measuring the distance between the top of the Zion's bowl to the top of the wooden body? I'm guessing there's a good chance I'm going to need to hit up @Oregonglassblower for some extra long m2m adapters just like @cybrguy.

Thanks in advance for whoever does the measurement for me!
The cutout on Venus is 34mm. The distance between the joints on my DHGate M2Ms are 30mm +/- 3mm and their length edge to edge is 76mm +/- 3mm. The customs I ordered from Mike are about 48mm between the joints and about 98mm edge to edge, but you can get them how you want them.
The standard M2Ms from DHGate will be hit or miss as one of mine is fine and the other a hair short if I am using them naked on a flat surface piece like the FC-187. However, I very much enjoy adding a claisen (I like pulling a plug to clear) which make these adapter lengths somewhat moot. I have an image of this setup with both the UFO and the 187 further back in this thread.

Definitely extra screens! We will be adding 4 bay chargers, a Samsung battery, long stem, short stem and screens soon. Then onto custom glass. The beta team will be driving what is offered for optional glass as well as consulted with what will come standard with the Zion over the coming weeks. We want to supply the Zion with just enough goodies to be fully functional at a reasonable cost. Then in addition we can add accessories till our hearts content. The great thing is everything will be tested by our expert group of Beta testers so customers can order with confidence.

Down the road we can offer different diameter screens to fit different stems and adapters. We can also optimize the mesh density to balance flow restriction with the ability to hold back small bits. Nickel, screen, titanium screen... So many options to explore after we meet our commitment to get the initial units out to our LifeTime Customers.

I believe (but I'm not certain) that later Zions have a bit more clearance.

I actually think with the production models' recessed bowl, the clearance will be even greater than it is now, might not even be able to clear my honeycomb's tank for full revolutions during a hit anymore, but I'll find out eventually some day...

I have been using the Zion for four days now. Absolutely love it. Almost instant vapor, thick convection hits. This is a great vaporizer.Easy to use, very straight forward. The learning curve is not that steep. I am getting very consistant results. It took a couple of loads to become fimilar with the power dial but nothing bad. I am very surprised at how smooth the vapor is. I have more testing to do. But, my first impression is really good. If you can order one, I would. I named her Zoey and she is awesome! I will put it this way. I have liked only two vapes enough to give them a name. My FF and Zoey the zion. Get in on it now, I think there will be a huge demand for this vaporizer. I am very taken with it. Grabbed it over the Daisy this morning which says a lot! So far I haven't ran it through water, been to lazy. I like the flavor profile Zoey produces. I am going to break out the wp and adapters to give it a run today.

I should have the Powerhouse tomorrow and will be fiddling around with a handful of adaptors and can report back. Not sure if adaptors would be the same for Zion and Powerhouse or not.

Nice! Should be, all 18mm, though doesn't have the control top of Zion (lol made me think control top pantyhose), so no clearance issues presumably.

@peterpiper probably but I don't know anything about the Arizer charger, I used the nitecore i2 for my Air batteries, and it ofcourse is perfect for Zion too.

@Bongologist yes, you are home

Here are most of the adapters I use, with a Zion screen and an Arizer ELB screen. Also short and long stems from Zion. The custom adapters I had made are roughly the size of the small Zion stem. The vertical adapter on the left has and ELB (Arizer dome screen) in it. It does add a mm or so to the joint. You will also note that it is US on the top and ISO on the bottom.

And here are 3 full setups again...
First the UFO with a Claisen

Then the D020 with the claisen (light enough to stand off center)

And then the 187 with just an M2M...

@cybrguy that was exactly what I wanted to see, and especially appreciate the measurements from above, thanks!

When using the ELB (and adding that mm or so) does the glass still seat nicely? That seems like a very easy setup if you prefer smaller amounts. The three longer stems in this pic are approximately 98mm as you had mentioned earlier?

I may well be using the wrong nomenclature for the screens I am using so I want to be clear. The screens I am referring to when I say ELBs or elbow screens are the dome screens that Arizer sells for going into their elbow glass piece.
Screen_Dome_4pk__25176.1365216568.1280.1280.jpg

These work very well on the US joints and hold roughly .1g, which is about perfect for how I use Venus. They do stick out a little, but not enough to get in the way of function for me. At least one beta tester is less enamored with them. ;)
The 2 custom M2Ms are about 98mm which is about the same length as the shorter Zion stem. The larger stem is 120mm.
And FYI, I bought those screens off Ebay for less... :)
