Discontinued The Grasshopper

I was stoked to receive a Green Ti and an Early Bird SS hopper on Sat. I was expecting them to arrive today, Monday. Both arrived with all the gear plus a couple of extra batts and leather sleeves that I also ordered.

In reading the manual, it says under Safety, "Never operate the product below 0 degrees C (32 F) or above 32 degrees C (90 F)." Well it was well over 103 degrees here over the weekend but kept the warning in mind while I tried them both.

Both work as expected, no problems yet. Both get increasingly warm then hot with use. You can get as much or as little vapor as you want. 5 sec or less warm up time for instant satisfaction!

Maybe version 2 will do away with the clicker switch and incorporate sensor similar to the ESV as discussed earlier.

My Green Ti has a serial no in the 30's and the SS in the 400's. Both are pretty much flawless in appearance and have that quality look and feel. The Ti version is lighter and feels a little hotter than the SS when used but it also seems to cool down a little quicker. Both pack a punch. The button and dial on the Ti unit is not as smooth as the SS version. Maybe this will change with use.

More observations later in the week.

Edit:
The leather sleeves work well in protecting the hopper. The sleeves fit tight but loosen up with use. Highly recommended!

I've seen some mentioning a smart loading tool. I don't know if it's the right size (couldn't find specs) but newvape has a little tool for the Pax2 that looks like it might work. Looks like a tiny little spoon.

I'm still a little new here, can I post links to it?

I posted these little spoons that I have awhile back all in various sizes to fit a variety of loading duties ;)

Love the look of this thing, how's the taste coming thru as its convection I'm a big lover of the lotus but you can't simply whip it out in public and have a drag within seconds, not to mention its hardy discrete. Taste I a big factor on my vape purchases in fact the biggest and most important.

Can it handle oils and concentrate too, or more of a herbal only deal?

Not sure if these have really hit the UK market yet but can see them becoming very popular when they get to these shores
See the quote below.

So I did a quick search of this thread for "cotton" and "hemp fiber" and came up with only a few questions and not a single experience report. I've been wrapping dabs of oil in bits of cotton and throwing those cotton balls in the GH and it works very well. Very very well. I might take some video of a grasshopper oil hit co-starring the Orbiter, because the vapor production sure is photogenic. Clouds enough to knock a man over. It knocked me over, at least… I highly recommend that others give it a careful try.

Nice find!
I'll link it for you. http://www.newvape.com/pax2-loading-accessory/

That is the perfect scoop that I have been searching for!
It's open on the front of the scoop(like an ice scoop), instead of just open on the top like a spoon, this makes it much better for our purposes.

Hopefully it is the right size to be able to fit into the herb chamber on the GH. I am ordering the scoop now, unfortunately I won't be able to test it on a GH for a bit.

@Ratchett
Is a scoop end like this possible with 3-D printed steel? This is how I had hoped the business end of your scoop would look.

Cloud Chaser
A couple random thoughts about the Grasshopper after a couple days with it.

Small particles get past the mouthpiece screen, so using it dry results in these being consumed. Some won't notice this, but I am sensitive to particulates in my vapor. Another reason I use water filtration when possible. I use a pretty fine screen in all my Air stems that I use dry to avoid just this issue. Not a deal breaker, but an irritant.

I now feel a little more qualified to comment on the heat issue when using it native, but mind you my experience is limited to a couple sessions.
It's not a big issue.
At least not for a solo user. Here's why: This device puts out huge clouds, big as you want nearly. And in the process the mouthpiece gets pretty warm, then you take it away from your lips and hold for a couple seconds, then exhale a cloud. Now I don't know about you, but I can't immediately take another hit. I need at least a few seconds to recover from that shotgun blast of THC to my system. Then I can take another hit and by then the mouthpiece has cooled down considerably. Bare in mind I am using a Ti unit, YMMV.

Edit: A couple more things come to mind, if you grind your material finely and fill the GH too full the material will compress and restrict draw. Basically, don't pack it. Then it's fine.

There seems to be some system with the blue light flashing during use to indicate the battery is getting low. It doesn't really flash off then on, almost stutters a little. Then right before the battery dies it is really fast. It increases as the battery dies.

Can anyone give me measurements of the GH's chamber? (Width preferably). I REALLY liked the filling tool for the Crafty & Mighty and am looking to design something of the sorts for the GH :)

Thanks for the input @CarolKing. I just feel like Ive seen fewer posts from memebers like @BuzzDanklin @midgetsanchez @TheVapeStation @SneakyPeteVaporizers (mentioned video review coming soon) or none at all. Maybe my expectations on sharing are misguided? Maybe I have missed some posts? Im glad you feel like sharing info on this new exciting product by owners has not decreased!

I also appreciate sound feedback and great discussions by some very intelligent members here!

As someone who does have a GH and has been on vacation most of the time that I got it, I totally think that what's happening is the people that have theirs that are totally awesome, which is most, and even most of the people who have had a defect and just got it replaced are just going about their day on their grasshopper inspired misadventures! When I come back on here after a few days I'm even at this point kinda like why did I come back here? Its pages of speculation from people with no facts, fear mongering with an occasional useful bit of information like the cotton ball thing (THANKS! I want to try hemp but I will try that and btw, someone on here asked me to see if it works if you roll up some ground bud in oil to let it absorb it and use it that way, forget who asked that but THANKS! it totally works and was a great afternoon so I hear ;-) and don't let anyone dare make a positive comment because then its pages of why that person didn't observe what they totally just observed. I totally don't blame GH owners for just going about their day. I come on here because I'm totally a fanboy, no shame in that in all and plus some of these bizarres tangents gone to on here are hilarious when you're puffing on a perfectly working and tasty GH

Random GH influenced thought: This thing delivers a THC sucker punch to the brain!
Quite the heavy hitter.

YUP, been saying that for weeks

Another Grasshopper bites the dust. Man. What a letdown. Won't charge or turn on now. Started with the red/blue lights occurring more frequently, and then it just died. Contacted Trevor, we will see how his warranty program works with international orders.
I don't know if I'm relieved or more pissed. This unit I got was finicky as hell from day one.

Finicky means it had that original defect. I'll say this again for everyone's benefit, if you have the collar overheat issue, it may not fail right away, but it does have that defect. If your unit is behaving erratically send them an email about. I had that defect, the difference between working correctly and the defect is not subtle so if you think its wrong it probably is.

Well, it's been a looong wait, but my grey Ti is here and it works.
In fact it works like a beast!

It actually came early, was slated for Monday delivery but I received it Saturday. It had the extra battery I ordered, as well as another extra(for the wait I believe). No SS case, which I'm glad for, I imagine(hope) they are getting new ones that fit.
Had a session on setting 3 with a friend and it soared, producing voluminous clouds.
Came fully charged, heat up time is ridiculously fast, like 10-12 seconds.
Flavor is clean and clear. Have only done two chambers using the "click on, wait for blue light, draw, click off, and pass" method, and the light was still blue(charged) at the end of the second.

YUP

Now we were not sipping and the unit(not just the mouthpiece) got warm to hot so we used the silicone mouthpiece for the second half of the first chamber.
It's not a deal breaker by any means but the heat is there.

I can't speak to it's longevity or reliability at this point, and I'm aware that this is the honeymoon stage, but after my first two samplings, I would recommend this very highly and would sit this right next to my Crafty. If Trevor hasn't raised his price point yet, I would jump on it(I'm considering picking up another) particularly if you're on the fence.
Even with the heat issue, this has many of the $250+ portables beat hands down.

I agree with previous posters that I'd like a smart loading tool, although loading wasn't an issue.

Smart design, stealthy profile, performance, pocket-ability, and a lifetime(of the company) warranty.
Congratulations to Trevor and the GHL team, looks like the landscape is changing!

I've been here in VT for a few days with a bunch of friends. I've been letting people use it to get their organic experience and with the understanding that these are people that in general smoke cannabis and don't primarily or really ever vape (for example one friend has a pax which she hasn't used once since we've been here) I gotta say the issue of a hot mouthpiece has never come up. Could it be that people are just suffering in silence? Sure, I suppose thats possible, however, every time we get in a car people are reaching for a GH so they clearly don't hate it (I've also noticed that woman seem to have a much stronger positive reaction than men in my road trip travels ...).

I hear people's frustration with the company, I think a lot of that is more people having unrealistic expectations are not really understanding the risks associated with crown funding a start up but I gotta say, driving from Colorado to VT, visiting friends and making new ones, the GH just impresses pretty much everyone that has used it.

Also whoever asked @Mr. Me2 how long his "friend" has had his GH, If I'd have to guess I'd say about 5 weeks, and also if you haven't been Philly is Tres Seis Town! (Actually so is Toledo, had a blast there and it seems pretty open to vaping places) ;-)

The unrealistic expectations came from the unrealistic statements from GHL...remember the 1000/wk at the end of July statement...we didn't make that up, it came directly from GHL.

That being said, I am very excited to get one and haven't lost faith in GHL to deliver a great product that I will love. The last update and the number of shopping confirmations sent out since then have really raised my spirits as well.

@slcbdco thank you for your real life update. I am really looking forward to my GH, as I need stealth as number 1 importance. I unfortunately have to medicate when with other people who do not, and they can not know that I am.

My Pax2 is really great for stealth, and on 1 petal I get good dose of Medicine without the telltale clouds of vapor/smoke for others to see. Here is my actual question (sorry for all the other filler), but does the GH provide good medication dose on lowest setting with minimal to no vapor exhale?

Thanks for any input you may have from your experience.

If you look at the actual quote it's even more outrageous. They said they'd be producing THOUSANDS plural by the end of July.

I agree that's not helping. It's along the lines of the unrealistic performance claims early on, they too led folks to expect things that didn't happen.

Still, GH continues to show promise I think. There's what about 400 units out with about 40 problems? That's a concerning failure rate, especially for such a short average time in service, but it also means lots of guys (the majority) aren't having troubles. While the timing is unfortunate, if the problems are being resolved (so that more reliable units are being shipped as time goes on) the percentage of problems is going to come down as they are.

Fingers still crossed, still sitting on my wallet.

Keep in mind you can minimize vapor clouds by inhaling less vapor and holding your hit for several additional seconds. Sometimes I enjoy pulling a HUGE whitewall cloud through my waterpipe and holding my breath as long as possible then exhaling zero clouds.

Another thing to remember is that your Pax vaporizer is a conduction based vaporizer - it is cooking the herb while the heater is on, producing vapor the whole time (unless you go idle the Pax will reduce heat until you begin to use again). The Grasshopper uses convection heating. This means it is not cooking the herb unless you inhale. If you want a big hit - take a big drag. Want a tiny discrete hit, take a small puff.

You should be able to medicate at any temperature with zero clouds if you desire, it's all a matter of how much herb you want to consume in one hit.

And then they walked that back in their last update, and made it out like it was their plan all along to have only produced 400 units total in several weeks.
Doesn't really inspire me to believe anything they say....

I think the words were "on track to producing 1000's per week" Then there were several different failures/issues that in my opinion, forced them them to slow that roll down, figure out the problems, find new solutions, hire more labor, add new tooling.

Unless there is a ton of new failures, I am very hopeful now.

Those sure are a lot of problems they had to correct, and massive ones at that, to have been "on track" at some point.
