Master Wu's Green Dragon Tincture w/ ABV

One alternative to carefully controlling the temperature of a water bath on a stove would be a sous vide-ish setup. Sous vide is a cooking method that uses a temp-controlled water bath and vacuum packed food to get precise cooking. The sous vide devices will hold a water bath between 100°F and around 200°F. The jar of everclear+ABV can safely sit in this water bath at whatever temperature you desire.

A couple options are the Anova and the Dorkfood, with the Dorkfood working with your slow cooker or any other simple heat source that plugs into it + water bath. I own a Dorkfood and have used it for cooking and beer making successfully.

I just tried this with some 60% vodka and approx 20 grams of ABV.

60% is the strongest legal amount liquor can hold here. The lady asked for my ID, since only old winos and young kids buy it. Legal age for hard liquor is 20 here, and I'm pushing thirty lol

Will report back.

So yeah, this gives me a very relaxing and mild body high, good for general well being and minor muscle pains. Also helps you get you in the mood for sleep, I find.

All in all, I find this is a very good way to use ABV :)

I tried some new prep work that I would share for this recipe. This pre-step might help with the potency and absorption.

Store alcohol in freezer a day or so before the extraction. Put ABV in jar and pour chilled everclear in jar so it just covers ABV. Put on lid and shake vigorously for 5 minutes. Jar might be cold from liquid so gloves might be a good option. After shaking, take off lid and let sit until the jar is around room temperature and then follow the extraction procedure.

I would love to hear more about people's cold extract experience.

I'm a bit hesitant about trying to reduce the abv/alcohol with heat. If I just left the jar open to air after a few weeks covered wouldn't the results be similar as the alcohol would evaporate off?

I just started collecting recently. After the first load of abv I put in the jar of 150 proof, it's taken on a lovely green color. My anticipation is building. Is there a difference in the high of an edible vs tinctures?

I think if you leave the lid off, the alcohol will evaporate. Just remember it will turn into something similar to Rick SImpson Oil; a blackish sludge that will stick to the bottom of the jar and might be hard to get out.

Tinctures and edibles seem to have the same high for me. I usually just use ABV in my tinctures that give a nice body high and helps with sleep.

So if it's reduced rather then evaporated, it turned into something else?

Well this looks like an imbscile proof way of making an ediable...

one question...does this method run the risk of anything exploding because of fumes? I heard of horror stories

Yes, fumes can be highly flammable, so you should use always use a stove vent and never use a lighter during this procedure.

2 - When i heat the mixture am i looking to reduce the amount of liquid in the jar and when do I know when to stop?

Heating alcohol is extremely dangerous and has the chance of explosion!!!!!!!! Don t play around with it.

You can take the tincture orally, a drop under the tongue is the standard method and yes, you want to reduce the liquid and raise the potence :-)

I just watched this video, it's a pricey device that basically reduces tinctures.
What if I use my bread maker instead? There's fruit jam program on it, I will take a look at the temperatures and report back.
