SS is correct. I'm hesitant to say much about Little Bugger because it is a prototype and I know the final design is different. As a concept, it works. I was asked if it is small enough to palm for discreet use, and it is. I believe the beta design is slightly larger but it should still be easy to conceal.

My concern about this design is the 14 mm stem. The load is a tall thin tube that requires stirring in order to vapourize evenly. The flow is somewhat restricted and harder draws concentrate the flow in the center, resulting in a dark spot. The vapour path is short, so the vapour can be hot and harsh. The stock stem will be glass, so there's fragility issues although 14 mm stems at this size are pretty sturdy. None of these is a deal-breaker. For a lot of people, the trade-offs will be more than worth it.

Why such a deep bowl? Have you tried a shallower bowl? (Assuming it's adjustable)

Would think, just like the nano, a shorter load depth works best.

Thanks. :)

I position the screen so that the bowl depth is about 15 mm (or .6 in). I load about .04 g, packed loosely because the draw is already restricted. If I made the bowl shallower, the load would be about .025 g, which we all know would keep @lwien good for a week or two but isn't really much for most of us. A shallower bowl is also harder to stir.

@RastaBuddhaTao and @thekarmawhore. As this is related to the single 18650 it has to be posted here but it also carries on from the 510 addy idea from the Zion thread.

Nice simple design with a great button. Once again for illustrative purposes only just bouncing ideas thru imagery as its a shit load easier than trying to put it into words

Finally found my dang calipers so i can really visualize these tiny measurements properly....

I would like to first ask how much draw resistance are you getting on an empty stem?

I understand having a harder time stirring if shallower... but i really think your bowl is way too tall to be efficient.

Not sure your bowls diameter for certain but measuring some of the 14mm males i have laying around the interiors seem to be about 7.6mm ish... so I'd probly try 8mm bowl depth with a couple mm air space for stirring.

Speaking honestly though after rereading your post it sounds like your intake through the heater is restricted, witch would give you problems automatically irregardless of how efficient of a bowl width x diameter ratio you have or how well you packed it... but maybe putting the load recessed back aways like say keeping your 15mm bowl depth but only loading 8mm, may help. In theory that little gap might help creat some laminar (sp?) air flow through the load. .. but then again i doubt it because laminair flow devices PUSH and not PULL air through thier filter's resistance, creating even pressure across the entire air filter... dont have a physics degree in this so i wouldn't know for sure.... but it seems like pushing the air is important for that even constant static pressure to build up and make that perfectly even airflow happen...

Food for thought I guess...

Eddit: terribly sorry for double post moderators... thought i posted about that epipe pic reply in different thread and don't know how to fix... :( Modnote: FTFY ;)

@slatihe it's a very nice simple thing. I've been on many a Google image trip and there's a lot of nice set ups out there for e-cig users no reason why we can't borrow some ideas.

The draw with an empty stem is fairly open. The restriction comes with loading the stem. The setup I described is what works best for me. I've tried everything you've suggested and some stuff you haven't, and that is what I wound up using. A load like you describe comes out to about .025 g of fine grind, less if you use medium grind. It is less restrictive of course, but it's tough to stir. The good part about a tiny load is that it won't need much stirring because it's gone so fast.

I just tried your setup with .02 g of Jack Herer, fine grind. I used 10 second draws. The first hit was nice and the load looked roasted fairly evenly. The second hit already started to taste cooked and the load had a definite dark brown spot in the centre, so I stirred it. The third hit tasted like crap and didn't really give up much vapour. That's it. Over. It works but it's not the way I want to vapourize. Getting two or three hits per load is fine for a log vape but it's really no fun in a pocket portable. That's how I see it, anyway.

The nice thing about the Zion, and seemingly at least the Alpha of this model, is that you can do both. Replicate the pinch at a time 2 hit log experience on the go, or pack it up and get a nice zonking tasty session with a stir or two (though Zion in general can get away with less stirring and other factors involved ofcourse)

@pakalolo Wow! Thanks for actually doing it!

Would also have said, medium grind...
Edit, do you read minds?

Was thinking maybe the game was to try NOT to have to stir in first place...

I think it's pretty cool. Maybe with a 14 nector thingy or miny water tool...just stuff, puff, puff, puff out spent abv, repeat as much as wanted.

Couldn't even image if it was as a ecig atatment thing @phattpiggi

You can, and for lots of people this will be just fine. I just want to remind people that I'm describing a personal preference here. The technology works as intended. The issues I'm talking about won't change with the beta or production models since they're inherent in the 14 mm stem.

I know many will likely disagree with me here (wood lovers ). But I see the zion as a cordless log vs this guy for on the go. For on the go I really like vapes that "hide in plain sight"

Mouthpiece could even be used as a micro built-in hydrotube; possibly an accessory? I know id shell out $$$$ for it, cool factor and functionality.

Well after all the excitement on the DPH thread and everyone sorting out their new Zions I feel kinda deflated knowing I will have to sit back and wait for the 18650 single to come together.
Myself personally I love timber as I can customize the appearance of it with ease and there are some stunning exotics out there. I also like other materials they just take a bit more working with than wood.
The possibilities are endless and if/when the kit forms come out it will be fanfukintastic to see everyones personal take on what seems to be a great bit of technology.
I won't tell you what I was chuntering to myself when I was told by RBT when the kit may be realized. Needless to say he got the polite version.
@olivianewtonjohn here's something I put together for @Ruta as he also likes the hidden in plain sight thing. The first thing that came to my mind was could I go about adding water.

I didn't take to the polyimide capsules I just don't like them. Unknown glue on an untested, for this purpose, material. Give me glass any day.

Great minds think alike. Every time I look at the air I think why didn't they make the ecig mouthpiece into a bubbler.

Box vs traditional ecig:
The thing is the form factor seems like it would be better as a box. Unless changes could be made it looks like the heater takes up a lot of room (think I read a lot of surface area), in that prototype the heater takes almost as much room as the 18650. If my impressions are right it would have to be pretty tall to accommodate the heater and battery. Verses a box with heater next to battery. Just my :2c:, if done right I think it would still look like an ecig to onlookers (box mods are becoming more common). I like the idea of a color tank myself, with the arizer air; that's the one part I think lowers the stealth factor unless you constantly clean it.

Myself I'm not keen on the ecig look.
I got the 05 as it had a good temp. range and battery swap out ability neither of which are particularly accurate or true. I also own a Titan 2 which gives superior flavor compared to the 05. This is probably due to it's ability to step up the temp. by the degree and possibly the stainless steel oven unlike the all plastic 05.
I think you're on point with the side by side/box mod form. The heater looks too long to allow a reasonable length 'ecig' design.
BW0CeR7.jpg

If both the battery and heater are 65mm then it would have to be a minimum of 130mm/5". Then add the mouthpiece and it's become too long.
I would like to see it side by side. I would also like some sort of adjustable temp. setting. I've found all the strains I've sampled all seem to give off different results at differing temps. One strain may have more flavor or high at a lower temp. than another and so on and so on.
I threw out the idea about a rotary switch with a ladder resistor set up possibly with a click on/off. I have no idea as to whether this may work @RastaBuddhaTao ?? This does away with the need to clean a pot.'s carbon track something else which is needed on the 05 possibly due to it's poor quality. No idea it's just a thought.
Unfortunately with age comes failing eye sight and I have to be in a well lit room to focus on the 05's numbers. The idea of a firm 'click' is a better option for me.
The Zion is too big for my personal taste and due to upper respiratory problems I know I wouldn't be able to cope with the huge rips the DPH gives.
For me I need a unit I can switch on set the temp. hit it then switch it off until I need it again. If you like I'm an all day sipper. Gone are the days when I felt the need to get spannered as quickly as possible.

No reason you can't do that with one butto like here, it just means less preheat and airier quick draws to keep temp from climbing, easy to take hits sporadically out and about I'd imagine, not that different from Zion, as spots on the dial can be versatile in their own right

@Shit Snacks sorry I should have made it clearer I still want the button for when I hit it but for me I like the idea of being able to hit it at a pre-set temp.. At the end of the day it is looking a way off before the single comes about. I am just thinking out loud and I know I will have to patient or will I. RBT seems to be running 23 hour days to get everything on the table for his projects. At the moment he has his hands full with all that's going on but from what we have seen so far his mind is capable of running faster than some of us have been able to keep up with.

And as an after thought I want this thing to be as 'stoned fool' proof as it can. It would be a shame to get bad press from some one who just didn't get the hang of feathering the power.
As in @HD Springer's case with the DPH and his drunken buddy causing a bush fire. We all know one or have probably been that stoned fool and if out partying that stoned and boozed up fool.

Yeah I agree, why I love the Zion and its dial, but the idea behind this one is to keep cost as low as possible, hence making it run at a set voltage manually (around 75% on my Zion's dial I believe, where you can do low tasty or hi cloudy). I would be first in line to throw temp control on here too, and we've discussed it, but likely for a more expensive, souped up Mini

I am open to all options and am eagerly looking forward to hearing and seeing this RBT option in operation. As for the expense if it costs a bit more so be it. These things could all be options. The one thing I don't want is the loss of reliability. I did say to RBT that I love the idea of modular design. Being able to swap out a faulty heater or control unit appeals to me. There aren't many vapes about that allow this. RBT has also assured us that his technology is bullet proof. How many vapes can you pour water into and not do some real damage.

... And bake it at 150 F for five hours. The Beautiful thing about the single battery manual is that it doesn't have a chip so a new test will be added. The "O no I dropped it I'm the lake..." Don't worry, it has a wood body and floats and water doesn't damage it... Just dry it out and it's ready for use. Not many vaporizers other than can say that. That's what this is, the MFLB of convection (can I say that @pakalolo ?) We will add the fancy body styles and controls to later models... But this is a vaporizer for the masses and the criteria are, around $100, fits in your pocket, has tons of power, and is hard to combust. What is pictured above is exactly that. No more can be taken away to simplify it further and no features have been missed. Please by all means continue to dream as we will be visiting grander plans in future models but this one all but needs the LED and heater intensity tuned and then we are off to market... Look for it on pre-sale soon ;)

Woo! Grate news @RastaBuddhaTao !

@phattpiggie maybe a voltage regulation kicker would suit your needs?

They are pretty small lil button sized circuit boards intended for mechanical e cigs... just set to desired setting and insert with battery, for those whom might not know.

Just a thought as it wouldn't require much modification (maybe not any, but probably will a need a lil extra room in the battery well)... have to take it out for adjustment though, but i think it would work.

That's awesome!! I know you said this is vape for the masses but any chance we could get a blank from @Snappo and have a custom one made? I'd really like to get a Zion, mini, and TOD in custom wood! I know its a lot to ask when you're just starting out but just wanted to throw it out there.
