The 2016 Presidential Candidates Thread

Most repubs can't come out in favor of legalization because the coalition of mainly older whites they have assembled is fairly deep on the religious right but somewhat shallow on the libertarian end. So the best they can do and still retain a constituency is skip around the issue and imply support for both sides like Rand Paul.

I've always found it odd that most Republicans, who are so big on "states rights", want the federal government to intervene in states where marijuana is legal for medical and/or recreational purposes. Marijuana legalization is, in theory, actually a Conservative position. Republicans say they love Small government, keeping the government out of our lives, and no "Nanny State." Well, here's their chance to prove their "Conservative" ideals.

It's kinda like cherry picking what you believe in the Bible for it seems like one will only pick the doctrines that serve their purpose or at the very least, only apply those doctrines when it serves their purpose, eh?

What does that say about the Republican Party - that cartoon figure Donald Trump is ahead in the Rep. polls. No matter what his stance on cannabis, I would never vote for someone like that - he's soon to implode.

“Republican candidates, some of whom are registering one percent and zero, they're very upset that I'm leading the polls by actually a nice margin,” Trump, a self-funded, billionaire real estate mogul, told ABC’s “This Week.” “They started attacking me.”

On Saturday, Trump acknowledged that McCain, a former Navy fighter pilot who spent five-and-a-half years as a prisoner during the Vietnam War, was indeed a war hero but only “because he was captured.”

Batshit. Trump had deferments during the Vietnam War.

The 2016 presidential field is taking shape, and many of the candidates are weighing in on the debate about marijuana.

Here’s a roundup of what the declared candidates have said about cannabis policy, as well as what they’ve admitted about their own marijuana consumption.

But its good that politicians speak their minds, better to know what they think and believe then just regurgitating what they have been told to say. Please don't get me wrong I don't dig who and what Trump is and I will let it go at that but at least his cards are on the table.

Yeah, but look at those fucking cards !!! :o

Kind of like a Tarot deck made up of Magic Cards, Illuminati game cards and Mars Attack trading cards. I apologize to any Trump supporters out there but sometimes I can't stop myself.

Once again they gave Rand Paul the highest ratings, which he really does not deserve. I give him high marks for taking all sides of the issue in turn depending on what suits him at the moment, but overall about C+. His supposed activism is mainly stunts which can't succeed, 'leaving it up to the states' (= the busts will continue), but he fools some into thinking he actually cares about this.

We will have to be careful who we vote into office in 2016. It could make or break cannabis in America. We don't want to go back to the old days of the evils of weed.

Those three are all a bunch of Hippocrates.

When it really comes down to it, I don't think you can survive being a successful politician without being a hypocrite. Hypocrisy seems to be a prerequisite in being able to garner enough votes to get ya elected, eh?

At least in the cartoon, Obama is owning it and Clinton is admitting "something" may have or have not happened. lol
My all time top 2 favorite presidents right there. :)

I hope the democrats have more to choose from other than Hilary and Sanders. I personally like Sanders but I don't like Hilary that well. She comes across as being fake. I like her husband Bill Clinton. I do like Joe Biden but he's always putting his foot in his mouth.

Hillary faces the inevitable gamut of challenges any female candidate would. If she's alluring then she's a bimbo and if she isn't she's a hag. People are having trouble with this. My advice: get over her looks. What does she want to do? Hillary Clinton's policy positions have been good. Her campaign wiped all the repubs with a recent video on global warming, which you can see here in a slate article by Phil Plait.
Ok Bernie's rhetoric is even better in some ways, and I think the Clinton campaign will absorb some of his message.

As far as the emails thing goes, it's Benghazi with computers.

Truthfully, I'm not the biggest Hillary fan either, but it will come down to the lesser of two evils as it always does. It's not quite - but pretty much - a foregone conclusion that she will take the Democratic nomination. Hillary will probably be hands down the lesser of two evils if any of the current Republicans win their nomination - on this topic and others.

She would certainly be more open to moving MJ from Schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act, more likely to continue turning a blind eye to MMJ and Recreational in states that have already moved forward, and probably more likely to allow (and possibly even promote) federal decriminalization.

However if Rand Paul wins the Republican nomination (doubtful, but possible I suppose), I think we'd see Hillary right in line with Bernie Sanders depending on polling next fall.

I'm writing "no confidence."

The only candidates who I would actually vote for if I believed they were genuine is Trump/Paul. But I truly believe every single politician running is either bought and paid for or a complete idiot that will be bought and paid for once they get into office. Or a communist.

No, the parties are not even remotely equivalent. The republicans all want to reduce taxes on the rich, privatize or do away with social security, enact xenophobic immigration laws, suppress voting by their opposition in general and minorities in particular, enable the rich to buy elections, foil democracy with gerrymandering, bust unions, discriminate against gay people, generally do the bidding of plutocrats, yada yada yada. And do you really think if given dominance of all three branches of government (and more supreme court justices like the conservatives we are already saddled with) there won't be nasty consequences? For cannabis along with everything else?

A few years ago I couldn't afford health insurance on the individual market. It was out of the question for me and millions like me. I am now able to get very reasonable care. Most of the republicans on the debate stage are promising to take away my coverage immediately and replace it someday when they have debated it ad infinitum with something they have yet to specify and doubtless will continue to refuse to specify since they prefer to let people languish until their condition becomes acute and expensive and then go to the emergency room...
